About
R?že Cake House – a mother/daughter collaborative effort – is best known for its fresh and innovative designs and commitment to smaller-batch/higher-quality cakes and desserts.
R?že was founded on the principle that local and sustainable ingredients make for better, fresher tasting cakes. We’ve always felt passionately about ethically-sourced food on a personal level and — as business owners — we believe we have an even greater responsibility to source food that’s been produced in a way which doesn’t harm the environment or exploit farmers and producers.
We pride ourselves on knowing where our ingredients come from. Our honey, citrus, milk, and cream are mostly sourced from Arizona farmers, many of whom we see each week at the Scottsdale Farmer’s Market (and we’re looking for a regular organic egg supplier, so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!). Things that aren’t produced locally (for example, sugar, which just doesn’t really grow in the state of Arizona!) come as much as possible from companies that create organic products and/or adhere to sustainable practices.
At this time, there are still some other items unavailable as Certified Organic or Fair Trade or whose quality is unmatched by the ones available through conventional channels. In these cases we use the high quality alternatives. However, we are more than happy to create 100% organic cakes upon special order! (We are also fine tuning a variety of homemade natural pigment powders which we hope you’ll find indistinguishable from traditional food dyes in the near future.)
In addition to our ingredients, we are committed to reducing our footprint and helping the planet through lots of small efforts. For example, we turn our egg shells and other food scraps into compost, which eventually becomes the soil where we grow a handful of herbs and edible flowers (like the violas we feature in our mini organic lollipops)! And whatever packaging materials we can source from recycled materials or plant products, we mostly do.
We offer a large selection of vegan cakes and baked goods and — although our kitchen is not certified gluten-free — we practice safe handling to avoid cross contamination on the number of options we make available to individuals with gluten sensitivities.
We are doing what we can and promise to continue our efforts towards a world full of the freshest tasting food with minimal planetary impact.
