Awesome DJ Crew!

We had the best experience with Matt and his team at our wedding! They definitely kept the night moving and we danced the night away. They were very organized and got all our favorite songs and then some we even forgot about. The planning document they provided was easy to use and when we were stuck, Matt had recommendations on recommendations. All our friends had nothing but good things to say about them the next day! Thank you all so much!

Great experience!

Booking with Rise DJ has been the most smooth planning I’ve had yet for my wedding. Not only is DJ Matt super nice and easy to talk too he’s also really good about getting back to you and answering all the questions you may have. Matt has been a great person to work with during this journey. They make their planning documents super accessible and very easy to understand and it’s very clear as day. My overall experience so far with Ride DJs has been nothing but top notch. They know how to communicate to their clientele and definitely know how to make them feel comfortable and welcome as well.

A little let down

We booked Rise DJs at the end of 2024 for our Fall October 2025 wedding and they were having an end of the year special, which helped us stay close to our budget. We got the luxe package, which also included their photobooth, during this special! Matt had been super communicative and even went so far as to providing a planning document to help for the day. Being the Type A bride I was, I even curated special playlists on Spotify for him to use as a reference on the vibes my husband and I were looking for in a DJ. I come from LA and my husband is originally from ATL, so it was definitely more of an old school hip hop ratchet vibe we were looking for in terms of music and Matt seemed like the right man for this job.

Fast forward to the day, Matt was on time to set up at the reception spot but we were getting married up in the mountains of Boulder, CO at the Sunrise Amphitheatre so he had to set up at the reception then head up the mountain to get set up for the ceremony. I do remember asking him about a wireless speaker/own power source when we first contacted him because of where we would be getting married (mountain), and he told us that would be no problem. However, that day, he didn’t bring it and then double checked with me about a power source. Matt had to go back down the mountain to the reception spot to grab his wireless equipment, which one way is about a 20-25 minute drive. So, unfortunately, when guests started rolling in, there was no pre-ceremony music playing. I understand this was his first time doing a ceremony here, but he had every opportunity to double check with me or my coordinator beforehand about the power situation or done more research about the venue. During the ceremony, all the songs we wanted played smoothly so I was glad that turned out to be just fine.

During the reception, Matt did cut the groomsmen’s entrance a bit short. That might have been more my fault due to not communicating with him that they were going to do something more than just walk out, but if you noticed how they were coming out, you could read the room that they were planning something. And in my opinion, it is also a DJ/MC’s job to read the room properly. Our first dance and the parents’ dances went great, so I’m glad about that. During the speeches, we had asked him to play intro songs before each person came up, but it sounded like he was playing them at the end of their speeches, not the beginning. So some details weren’t executed the way we hoped for.

During the open dance floor, it sounded like he was playing music we didn’t vibe with, which my husband asked to start switching out to the music we asked him to play when we had our final consult with him, and some of the transitions were off, playing some songs too long or not enough, but I think there was a good rhythm eventually toward the middle/end of the night.

Our package did include a photobooth, and I will say the photobooth was awesome! People loved that there was a boomerang option, single shots, and duo shots. It was really easy to use. Matt let me know that he usually has an attendant for the photobooth to help with tech issues, but I think he came alone so that also confused us because he seemed like he could have used the help. Also, somewhere between dinner and the open dance floor, he asked if it was okay to change clothes since he was still wearing a hoodie. I feel like he could have done that during cocktail hour but that is neither here nor there. All in all, my husband and I had higher expectations based on our conversations and emails with Matt that on the day, there was definitely a feeling of being let down.

We're giving a 3/5 due to his communication and photobooth, but he lacked preparation for the ceremony and didn't execute everything the way we hoped in terms of DJ.

Failed on My Wedding

Overall, they did an okay job, but they missed several key moments at our wedding that were truly important — moments we can never redo. Our wedding was simple and straightforward, so it really shouldn’t have been difficult to get these details right.

Before the wedding, we filled out their form with every song and special moment clearly outlined. We even made two small changes ahead of time that were acknowledged and approved by the DJ. Despite that, things went wrong on the day.

The memo that was supposed to play before I walked down the aisle was instead played as I arrived at the altar, confusing everyone. Then, they played the wrong song for my walk down the aisle — even though this change had been confirmed. They also completely skipped introducing the family tables, which was written out on the document they provided. To top it off, the blessing before dinner was forgotten entirely until one of our guests had to remind them, and then they remembered.

It’s really disappointing because these weren’t small oversights — these were meaningful, once-in-a-lifetime moments. While the DJ can move on to the next event, we can’t redo our wedding day.
