Red Pebble Plantation has built its reputation on family values, integrity, and the tradition of southern heritage and hospitality. The land was deeded to Walter McGarr in the early 1930's, and there is evidence in the terrain where the name is derived. An abundance of iron ore in the earth produced granular red pebbles that are still present on the property today. Frank McGarr, grandson of Walter and third generation owner of the property, had a vision. He set out on a quest to cultivate the land and build a hunting operation like no other east of the Mississippi; Red Pebble Plantation was born from this dream.
A massive F3 tornado, the worst in Georgia's recorded history, came through the property in January of 2017. This caused the McGarr family to reevaluate what they needed to do with the property. Over 500 acres of pine trees were obliterated. While hunting was still the primary function of the plantation, the property became more diversified. The destroyed timber land was converted to irrigated farm land; ponds were dug to supply the irrigation and provide fishing. The lodge and surrounding area were set up as a wedding venue.
