Kara Welch Harp is a harpist based in Baltimore, Maryland. Add a touch of elegance and "something blue" at your wedding with her unique acoustic-electric instrument. Kara has played harp since 2005 and has had classical training with master teacher, Hye-Yun Bennett. Her extensive career as a soloist includes performances at renowned venues such as the Washington National Cathedral, the Howard Theater, and the Capital One Hall.

Services Offered

Kara can perform solo or accompanied by Nicholas Bobbs on the viola. A viola and harp duo can help create a more full-bodied sound for your special event. Whether it is your ceremony, cocktail hour, rehearsal dinner, or reception, Kara can professionally amplify her sound to customize an ambient and audible soundtrack on your wedding day with her acoustic-electric harp. As the principal harpist for the Washington Metropolitan Gamer Symphony Orchestra (WMGSO), Kara is happy to play music from video games, anime, or movies on your wedding day! Ask Kara about her upcoming CD, alongside the WMGSO, of music from the Final Fantasy series.

Dreamy harp and a lovely soul

My now husband reached out to Kara to grace us with her talents at our engagement party in Old Town Alexandria last month. Having experienced her music and presence in my home several times through Groupmuse, I was so pleased when my now husband surprised me with an intimate courtyard party with Kara playing harp! Before I even saw anyone or knew what was going on, I heard her playing. She is thoughtful about her music choices and makes the entire experience deeply personal and meaningful. Plus, she’s just a delightful and sweet human being. I’m blessed to know her, plain and simple.

Phenomenal wedding harpist!

Kara was incredible! Besides being a phenomenal harpist, she was able to accommodate our custom song requests for Legend of Zelda music and then seamlessly pivot into classic Irish tunes! We hired her and her violist partner Nick and our only regret is that we were getting photos done while she serenaded our guests during cocktail hour. If you're thinking of hiring her, I can't recommend it enough.

The perfect addition to any event! Kara Welch Harp!

If you are looking for a harpist in the DC/Baltimore region it doesn't get better than Kara! Having Kara perform during our wedding ceremony and cocktail hour was some of the best money we spent on our wedding day. The blue harp is a gorgeous addition to the atmosphere and the music Kara plays adds elegance and serenity to any event.

Kara was easy to work with, great at communicating, and had lots of options for music. 10/10 would recommend.

Beautiful music and a wonderful person!

Hiring Kara to play during my wedding ceremony was one of the best decisions I've ever made! She's incredibly talented and her beautiful music really elevated our ceremony. She was also so professional, organized, communicative, and an absolute delight to work with. She even learned a new song just for my ceremony, truly going above and beyond to make my event special. I'll be forever grateful for the role she played on this special day and couldn't recommend her more highly!

Wonderful and Memorable

Having Kara play at our wedding was very emotional and memorable. The change of music cues while everyone walked down the aisle was so beautiful. Definitely brought tears to the eyes. Thank you so much Kara for being such an important part of our day!

Ceremony Harpist

Kara was so easy to work with, she responded in a timely manner and was great about answering any questions we had. She provided us with a huge list of songs and was also able to play pieces not in her list when requested! She fit seamlessly into our day and was a pro when it came to set up and location for the music!. She played beautifully and made our wedding day so much more special!

They were amazing

Kara and her voila partner, Nicky, were amazing at what they do. The ceremony was beautiful with them playing and I couldn't have imagined it any other way. I'm happy they were able to play the songs I requested and my friends were happy to hear it. I wasn't present for most of the cocktail hour due to pictures being done, but what I could hear was fantastic. The guests loved them! Don't even question it, book them both! -or just Kara!

Amazing Harpist!

Kara was an amazing addition to our wedding ceremony. We had a few bumps on the road while wedding planning and she was incredibly accommodating with everything. A few of our song choices were not in her repertoire, but she bought the sheet music for us. She also allowed us to plug our microphone into her personal amp which saved us from having to rent/hire additional sound setup.
I was worried that just having a harp wouldn’t give a full sound. But her music was full, vibrant, and beyond lovely. While walking to our ceremony location, I could hear her music in the distance, and I felt like I was in a fairytale. The music was so moving and was definitely a core memory for me. Her song choices were beautiful and made the wedding so much more magical. She played music based on our preferences which was anime and video games.
I highly recommend Kara for your wedding!

Wedding music magic!

Kara is a thoughtful and unbelievably talented musician and harpist. In addition to her beautiful playing, prior to our wedding day she helped us think through how each moment of our ceremony, beginning with the arrival of our guests, could be elevated by music. From expertly playing classics, to her interpretation of a piece she learned for one of our aisle songs (Francis and the Lights’ “May I Have This Dance”) Kara’s music was undeniably a highlight of our wedding. If you are looking to add live music elements to your celebration and are in search of a professional and kind artist who can beautifully play a broad repertoire of music, look no further!
