There has been a fort on the site since 1797, when the Mexican Army built on the coastline. The U.S. military took ownership in 1850, the same year that California joined the U.S., and built Fort Mason. In the 20th century, Fort Mason saw an expansion of its role into the U.S. Army’s embarkation point to the Pacific, particularly during World War I and II. However, the fort saw less use after the Korean War, until the U.S. Army left in 1962. The site was redeveloped as part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area in 1972 and entered a new lease of life.
Fort Mason Center is under the auspices of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, the most visited National Park in the U.S., and can conveniently be reached by car or public transport in San Francisco. Parking is available.

If I had do it all over again, I would do it exactly the same! It was a dream come true to have our wedding reception at Fort Mason and I'm so thankful to have had Shawn and the whole team at Fort Mason to assist with our wedding day. The venue is beautiful and all of our guests were stunned by the view and location.Sent on 03/26/2020

The historic Fort Mason Center on the SF Marina made a beautiful backdrop for our wedding ceremony. There was also ample parking which is rare in SF. We rented the Conference Center and the Marina Room in the back where the me, the bride, and the bridesmaids could get dressed. The facility coordinator, Laurie Brown, was very professional and informative. The chairs were set up just like we asked and there was a cleaning crew to handle any mess.Sent on 06/11/2008
