Best jewelry store anywhere!

I went in to Butterfield Jewelers looking for an engagement ring and was extremely pleased. Scott took great care of me, was very professional and friendly and answered all of my questions. I felt I got the best deal possible, and I even checked numerous sources online before deciding to shop with a local and well-established family business. I am now a customer of Butterfields forever!

My fiance and I purchased my engagement ring and our wedding bands from Butterfield's. We also took a special piece of heirloom jewelry for cleaning so that I could wear it on our wedding day. We are very happy with the quality of the service we received as well as the quality of our jewelry.

Scott Gould Insults at Butterfield Jewelers in Albuquerque NM

I have to write about my experience with Scott Gould, a sales associate at Butterfield Jewelers In Albuquerque NM. His behavior was juvenile, unprofessional and unbecoming.

During the holidays I planned on giving my now fiance a fabulous ring. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area but grew up in Albuquerque. Most of my family still lives there. My thoughts were to help support the local economy. For whatever reason, Butterfield Jewelers came to mind and I called. Scott Gould answered and seemed helpful in answering my questions in finding a pink sapphire diamond ring. We went back and forth on email and I finally settled on a ring that I thought my fiance would love. While conducting due diligence and comparing pricing I saw that I was being quoted a higher price compared to other stores. I put this out of mind as I really wanted to give my lady the ring for Christmas as we planned on spending the holidays in Albuquerque. I went so far as to arrange partial financing for this expensive investment through Butterfield. Wells Fargo Bank would underwrite this.

Fast forward to the week before Christmas and my fiance and I decided to go visit Scott Gould at the Butterfield store. Upon arrival at their San Pedro Blvd location, I thought I was in the wrong place. The store is in a decrepit 1950's era strip mall in a dodgy neighborhood. When we went inside the store felt like the strip mall that it was located. Old and outdated. I put my embarrassment aside and had a chat with Scott Gould and discussed the ring. At no point did we sign an agreement for such an important purchase. I told him I would contact him on Christmas Eve.

That same day I received terrible news that my Grandmother passed away. She was 93 years old. Her funeral would be in Santa Fe. To clear my head me and other family members decided to walk around the shops in the plaza area. I noticed the expensive jewelry shops with national footprints and reputations. In one of the displays, I was surprised to see a close replication of the Butterfield ring. I showed it to my fiance and we went inside to speak to not only a sales associate but also the store manager. This ring had a slightly larger stone but the setting was more pleasing. This ring was thousands of dollars cheaper! The staff showed me the same authenticity documentation that Scott Gould did. In essence, a nicer ring that was significantly less expensive. I told the staff that I would contact them if I decided to move forward. We left.

That night I emailed Scott telling him about the ring and the similarities and the disparity in price. At no point did I tell him that I was backing out of working with Butterfield. I simply asked him to make me feel better about dealing with Butterfield and the ring that we were interested in. On Christmas Eve I received my email reply. I have to paraphrase but his email was lengthy and frankly a rant. He stated that other jewelry stores are getting sued for fake diamonds and other apparent misdeeds. His email made no sense. He then called me a "liar", an "idiot" and that "karma" was going to "get me". I took the last insult as a veiled threat but I chose to ignore it as I'm a professional. I informed Scott Gould that he was not to talk to me that way and to apologize. Keep in mind this was all happening on the holiest holiday of the year.

How on earth could I justify spending 1,000's of dollars with someone who is so unprofessional and who clearly cannot control his emotions? What was my "sin" in Scott's eyes? I had the gall to inquire about the price. I did not earn what I have by making irresponsible financial decisions. I certainly will not spend thousands in a store that appears to tolerate this behavior. In fairness, I did receive an email about a week later replying to me with a loose non-apology apology. He then went on another unhinged rant. That was not an apology at all but someone who thought he'd be cute with wordplay.

To anyone contemplating doing business with Butterfield Jewelers and Scott Gould, I'd advise you to do your homework. Compare prices. Shop around. The image is important. So is location. Scott Gould could do better and should be counseled. I'd never allow any member of my staff to ever talk to a customer in that way. Especially in an email. I would quickly terminate them.

We found a fabulous ring at a fantastic store in Albuquerque and I was happy to spend the money in my hometown and the city that I love.... continued --->

Ruined family heirloom

We purchased an engagement ring from Teresa Butterfield. Went back to Butterfield to purchase a wedding set. While shopping for rings my fiancee asked if they could remove a hair that was tangled in her necklace. Simple. This was a family heirloom fine gold necklace with great sentimental value that my fiancee has worn for 30 years. They took her necklace to the back of the shop. Brought it out handed it to my fiancee and said “ its going to feel stiff now”. Why we asked. “Because the jeweler lasered an area that looked like it might fail at some point. “ The necklace had a 1 “ long section that was no longer flexible actually fused together. We Didnt Ask You Nor Authorize You To Laser Her Necklace! They tried to fix the necklace but couldnt. We left the necklace there for 2 hours while the bumbling jeweler tried to ‘fix” it. I left instructions for them not to cut the chain. We return and the necklace is shorter. We now have a family heirloom that my fiancee cant wear and an engagement ring that neither of us want involved in our wedding. We have to spend money to fix the necklace - not at Butterfield- and we now have to get a new engagement ring from someone other than Butterfield. Buying wedding jewelry is as much about the experience of the purchase as it is the ring itself. Butterfield ruined that memory for us. Dont let this happen to you.
