About

Hi. You can call me Ben.

I am a photographer.

If you're getting married, graduating high school, or you just need a good picture to put on your Facebook page… I think I can help. Lets get together and talk about it. Come to my studio and get your Fish Eye Fun photo taken for free… or I can come to you. If you're not in St. Louis we could Skype or iChat or use that old fashioned thing called… the phone?

Cheers,

Ben

Oh yeah…. If you're from St. Louis too you're probably wondering so… I went to Clayton.

About Cinematic Photojournalism

My style is often classified as "photojournalism." When given several options to describe my style I often pick photojournalism over "traditional" or "posed." However, I don't think photojournalism is a style. It is a method. I will take creative liberties and give direction when necessary, but I feel the best photographs are taken when you don't know you're being photographed. It's the moments between the toast and the first dance and it's the moments before and after "say cheese" that are really magical.

My method is photojournalism but my style is cinematic. Through photographs I want to tell the story of your wedding, your event, or your family. I love to use light, composition, processing, and even movement to tell a story that is both beautiful and truthful.

This style is translated in my album design as well. Like editing a movie, the juxtaposition of one image next to another can profoundly effect the meaning and emotion of each image.

We got married in October of 2010 and used Ben as our photographer for our engagement and wedding photos. He was great! We looked at several photographers during the planning process, but went with Ben because his friendly personality put us at ease immediately. He has a great combination of being very professional and easy going. He always had our best interest in mind, and you could tell that this number one goal was to make sure that we were happy with the photos.

For example, I felt sick the morning of the wedding. We were planning on taking our couples photos in the hours before the ceremony, but Ben could see how bad I felt. So he suggested that we just wait and take the photos after the wedding on another day. As a result, I was able to rest and recover and to actually enjoy the evening. Ben really went out of his way to make sure that the final photos turned out great and, more importantly, that we were able to relax and enjoy our wedding night. He made it so easy to trust him to take care of the photography which gave us one less thing to worry about.

Also, Ben's photos are really wonderful and very professional. He has a great style that makes them so much more than just the posey photos you sometimes see. You can tell that someone artistic and talented is working the camera. Everyone who saw the photos after the wedding kept saying that they looked like they were from a magazine!

Ben also offers a service called Fish Eye Fun, where he sets up a fish-eye camera photo booth with crazy costumes and props for your guests to use throughout the party. We definitely recommend this!! It was SO MUCH FUN, and we had multiple guests tell us after the wedding that they loved the idea and thought it was so unique. The guests all got to take home free souvenir photos of the night, and we ended up using the photos as a guest book during the wedding. This idea was such a big hit that someone at our wedding was trying to see if Ben could come do it at her wedding in Texas!

It's easy to get lost when you're looking at photographers and their packages and how much each little thing costs. We learned through this process that, while cost is important, the most important thing is to find a photographer who you can work with easily and who understands what's important to you. That's why we're so happy we chose Ben. We totally loved Ben and would recommend him to anyone and everyone. We're planning on using him for all of our photographical moments in our future :)

So our big day finally came. After all of the planning and stress of all the last minute decisions, I thought I would also have to stress about the pictures. Fortunately for me, my best friend knew Ben from a film they worked on together. He was so prompt on meeting Josh and I so we could feel eachother out, so to speak, and it turned out we were a perfect match. He brought a few examples of his work and we were blown away!!! He somehow has the ability to catch the best pictures in the most unexpected moments. Not only did he do an engagement shoot for us, but he was also there for our rehearsal dinner without charging us extra. We got married at Busch Stadium and he even took time out of his own schedule to meet with the special events coordinator.

Needless to say all of our pictures turned out amazing and after posting them on facebook, I had so many people asking for my photographer's name because our pictures were so unique. They are not the typical: stand here, smile now, everyone look at the camera. Don't get me wrong we did have the family photos and all of the pictures you take after the wedding, but how he uses the lighting is just phenomenal. The best pictures though, I believe, are the ones in which you don't even know the camera is on you. They are so natural and completely depict the essence of the moment.

If you are looking for a photographer who is reliable and just outright awesome, you're crazy not to at least meet with Ben. I can assure you that you will not regret it.

And Ben, thank you for helping make our day so wonderful. We could not have done it without you.
