About

Mission Statement

The objective of this company shall be to prevent and extinguish fires, to protect life and property, to assist the duly constituted authorities in time of disaster, and to promote fraternalism among its members.

The Armor Volunteer Fire company is located on the Eastern side of the Town of Hamburg, NY, that borders the Town of Orchard Park. We provide fire protection and emergency medical services to a mostly residential area that includes some commercial, light manufacturing and agricultural areas.

The Armor Volunteer Fire Company, as we know it today, originated with the Men's Club of Armor. This club was formed for social & civic betterment of the community. This club served the community as a civil defense unit during World War II. When the war was over they met to see what other ways they could help their community. They appointed a committee to investigate the possibility of starting a fire company for Armor. The Town of Hamburg agreed to the contract and a charter establishing the Armor Volunteer Fire Company was incorporated on May 5, 1944.

We decorated and made the place look like a banquet hall. It was beautiful. Unfortunately, when we were signing our contract we were verbally told that we'd have full use of the kitchen but we could not use any of the dishes or cooking utensils. This was completely understandable. HOWEVER: THE NIGHT BEFORE MY WEDDING WHEN WE DECORATED, AS MY CATERER BROUGHT IN ALL THE FOOD, GARY SAID TO ME, "YOU CANNOT COOK HERE." I WAS DISHEVELED! We were frantic and called several places trying to figure out what to do. Finally, the caterer had connections at the North Boston Fire Hall and they said she could cook it there and bring it in the next day.

I was supposed to get my deposit back 2 weeks after the wedding. Nothing came in the mail. Finally, about 2 months after the wedding, I called. Gary said, "you need to call Chuck." Chuck said, "Gary should've told you you have to take the command strips off the wall before we can give you your deposit back. Didn't he tell you?" To which I responded, "No, I just spoke to him." Chuck told me to call Gary back and ask him about setting up a time. Gary told me we could meet on a Saturday and check it out. I went with my step-mother as my witness and we removed each one without leaving a mark, and Gary said, "Okay, you should get your check within 2 weeks now." I called Chuck the minute I got outside the building and left him a voice message with my address and telling him Gary was witness that we took them all down without leaving a mark. Another month with nothing in the mail. I called Gary who said to call Chuck who said to call Joe. Nothing. My father got ahold of Chuck and told him he works at the Postal Service and knows it doesn't take 3 months to send a check (with a few choice words). Two days after he made the call, I got the check.

Make sure you know the rules completely if you go here.
