Rehearsal Dinner and Breakfast
We booked the Westin for our daughter’s rehearsal dinner and Sunday morning breakfast. The catering manager was very easy to work with, helpful and responsive. We had about 50 guests at each event. We used the Italian Garden, Crystal Ballroom and the Esquire Room. Of the three, the Esquire Room is the most “conference” like, but it was fine for breakfast. Menu options are fairly extensive and the buffet we chose for dinner had soup, salad, sides, three entree options snd desserts. The food was good. We also offered passed hors d’ouvres and the tapas bar before dinner. In hindsight, we didn’t need the tapas bar. This venue was very convenient for our out of town guests, the majority of whom stayed at the hotel. We were very pleased with our choice. -

We worked with the team at the WBC to plan our September 2017 wedding. We had guests book more than 80 rooms at the hotel, and planned the cocktail hour and reception in the ballrooms. Our ceremony was at St. Aloysius church two doors down on Washington Blvd- highly recommed this arrangement if you're looking for a Catholic ceremony with minimal travel between venues! If you're planning a wedding at the WBC, I'd recommend bringing your own wedding planner, but otherwise it's a lovely venue and we had an excellent event.
Kelley Tilma and the WBC team were delightful during the planning process- they were professional, communicative, and responsive. Our tasting was one of my favorite parts of planning- we had a private experience and Kelley and the chefs, and their expertise helped us to have a balanced menu, within our budget, that would please guests of all ages and dietary preferences. They also helped us arrange the logistics of having an appropriate number of rooms (with mirrors, and outlets!) for everyone in the bridal party to get ready. Everyone we encountered at the hotel- during the planning process and on the weekend of the wedding- was friendly and positive.
Unfortunately the day-of team dropped the ball on a few things during the wedding. For example, despite several excel charts and detailed directions, the place cards were all mixed up and jumbled - my mom spent a lot of the cocktail our rearranging cards in the ballroom. In addition, right afterwe cut the cake, the team was supposed to take the cake away for cutting into serving slices - we had to pull someone aside halfway through dinner to ask them to do that.
Despite these hiccups, the day was a success. The venue was beautiful, the food and drinks were delicious, and we and our guests had a great time. If you're planning a wedding, congratulations and good luck!

What an amazing weekend wedding experience. Highly professional and breathtaking venue. Working with Emily was incredible and helped ease my stress and her type A personality helped make for a smooth flow of events and wedding night. -

The venue was gorgeous. Each room and the lobbies were clean and decorated elegantly. The rooms were very nice and comfortable. -

We had our wedding at the Book Cadillac in the Woodward Ballroom on 8/6/16 and it was beautiful!! We had looked at a few different venues before choosing this one and none of them felt right. As soon as my now husband and I walked in, we both knew it was perfect for our wedding. I can't say enough wonderful things about Emily and Kelly who we worked with. They both understood exactly what we wanted and they made it happen. We also booked a block of rooms for our guests and we were very happy with the room discount we received. I would definitely recommend this venue!! -

We had our rehearsal dinner in one of the ballrooms and stayed here during our wedding festivities, along with our wedding party. This venue has tons of experience in wedding-related events, and the Wedding Coordinators are great to work with. I know they will continue to host lovely events, HOWEVER, I wanted to post this review as a warning to those who are looking for safe lodging in Detroit. My husband has loyalty status with Starwood properties, so this was the natural choice when looking for our wedding night suites (we got married at the Colony Club). We booked our suites (one for each of us) almost a full year in advance, however, when we checked in (at the normal time, even though members qualify for early check-in) we had to wait almost two hours before both suites became available. Then, before checking out, we came back from brunch to find that someone had already "cleaned" his suite and GROOMSMENS' GIFTS HAD BEEN STOLEN. We reported the incident immediately to the Front Office Manager, who told us he couldn't do much and then we had to leave on our honeymoon with the issue hanging over our heads. They never found out what happened, and only after a lot of effort on my part emailing between the manager and our wedding contact did he finally offer to add some additional loyalty points to my husband's account. We have stayed at other hotels of this caliber and have always been impressed by the professionalism and quick resolution of issues ---not so at this location, and we obviously won't be staying here again. -

Two Weddings, One Disgrace.
After attending two weddings in three weeks at this venue, I can confidently say it was one of the most disappointing hospitality experiences I’ve ever witnessed — and that’s saying something.
First Wedding: A Disaster in Every Sense
The evening started off on the wrong foot and only went downhill from there.
The crab cakes were a complete embarrassment — all breadcrumbs, ice cold, pasty, and smelling like spoiled tuna. The bars weren’t even set up on time, and when guests asked questions, management vanished. Not a single person took responsibility or showed any leadership.
Dinner was another disaster: cold, salty, and poorly prepared. The bread was stale, the staff completely untrained, and the bartenders chewed gum with their mouths open while serving drinks. To make matters worse, the entire dining room smelled like fish. It was unpleasant and unprofessional from start to finish.
Second Wedding: Somehow Even Worse
By the second event, I hoped the first had been a fluke. Unfortunately, it was a pattern.
The ballroom was freezing — so cold that guests kept their jackets and shawls on, and a few elderly guests actually wrapped themselves in tablecloths. When we asked management to address it, they did absolutely nothing.
Then came the food — and I use that term loosely. The filet medallions were tiny, gray, and lifeless, clearly pre-cooked the day before. The lobster tails were the cheapest warm-water kind, undercooked and disintegrating like wet paper. Dinner didn’t even begin until 9:30 p.m., long after guests were exhausted and frustrated.
To make it worse, when the guest next to me stepped away, the server skipped their plate entirely and just walked off to fill water elsewhere. No awareness, no care, no urgency.
Bottom Line
What’s most upsetting isn’t just the food — it’s the complete lack of leadership and accountability. Families spent hundreds of dollars per plate and tens of thousands more on décor and details, only to be met with incompetence, indifference, and embarrassment.
This venue markets itself as high-end, but what we experienced was amateur hour from start to finish. Cold food, colder service, and zero professionalism. Charging luxury prices for this level of quality is downright deceptive.
Save yourself the frustration — look elsewhere. This place simply doesn’t care.
