Great experience with the Wedding Dresser

Susan and her team are outstanding! I am so glad I chose them to alter my wedding dress. My dress was quite complicated and needed a lot of alterations, and there were able to complete them beautifully with just 4 fittings, each less than 30 minutes. The bustle they created was beautiful, and they even made a very clear explanatory video for my sister-in-law to do the bustle herself on the wedding day.
Two weeks before my wedding, at my final fitting, my dress was still a bit big on the top, but Susan and her team were able to work quickly at the last minute to make sure I had a perfect fit for my wedding day.

Perfect dress!

Susan was able to take my family’s 75 year old heirloom dress and give it new life! She did an extraordinary job! She was able to clean the fabric and adjust it so that I could fit into it. It was so special to be able to wear my grandmother/mother’s dress on my wedding day. Thank you to Susan and your entire team for giving me something so special to wear!

Great alterations

Susan and her team at the Wedding Dresser did a lovely job with alterations to my bridal gown (hemming, bustling, and straps). They also offered my expert guidance about cleaning, and I was able to try on accessories to help decide on my final look. Life saver to my wedding dress nightmare!

Long story short, the bridal shop I ordered my dress from in Korea sent me the wrong bride’s dress (I’m a size 2 and they sent me a size 10) and had to put in a rush order with the designer to create a brand new dress for me. Less than a month before my wedding, I still didn’t have my wedding dress in hand.

I was in full panic mode because I didn’t know 1) was my new dress going to arrive on time? 2) was my new dress going to fit me? 3) was my new dress going to require alterations? 4) would the alterations be completed in time?? There were so many unknowns.

But thanks to my wedding planner’s recommendation, I found the Wedding Dresser, and reached out to Susan. Her response was “Yes, it’s totally possible for us to alter the dress for you on a shortened timeline. We got you” and I already felt a huge sense of relief.

THANK GOD my new dress did arrive in time, 3 weeks before my wedding, and I was able to book an appt with the Wedding Dresser right away.

And in exactly 2 weeks from my first appointment, Susan and her team made my dress fit me PERFECTLY.

They worked their magic to make sure…
- I can actually lift my arms up and hug my husband! LOL (Previously, I couldn’t lift my arms up beyond a few inches)
- The length of the dress was perfect. (I didn’t bustle my dress but it required hemming in the front)
- I could breathe in my dress without it suffocating me (The new dress did fit me, but I didn’t think I could stay in it for hours because it was so tight. They removed the inner corset and did some other things to add some extra breathing room for me and it was a lifesaver!)

At every single appointment, I felt so well taken care of by everyone. Ashley, Gala, Tran, Filbert, and Susan were all so wonderful, and I appreciated how it felt like we were part of a team with one goal in mind: making me look & feel like the most beautiful bride ever.

We actively brainstormed things together (e.g. should I pin the front crease of my dress? should I not? should I wear my hair down? or up? should I bustle my dress? or not?)

I genuinely enjoyed spending time there because everyone is so wonderful.

And honestly, I could not be more grateful to The Wedding Dresser for helping me wear my dream wedding dress on my special day.

Fantabulous (Fantastic and Fabulous)

Susan and her team were truly amazing and so easy to work with. I was wearing my grandmother's 65 year old dress and they knew exactly what to do so that it not only didn't fall apart, but also was more me (we changed the sleeves and added beading). My mom bought a brand new dress and brought it to Susan because we trusted her more than any other place. Beyond, beyond recommend!

Gem of a shop

I’m so glad I found Susan and her team. I purchased an Oscar de la Renta Brandon wedding gown, which needed to be taken in. As the gown was expensive, I wanted someone experienced so I wouldn’t have to worry about the outcome. Susan and her team were just excellent. I had the initial contact with Susan through Zoom, where we discussed all the particulars, e.g. timing, cost, number of visits etc. Susan was extremely helpful, putting me at ease and answering all my questions. I think the price I paid for the alterations was fair, especially considering all the layers and the intricate lace. I had reminders for all my visits and was never left waiting.

All the visits went according to plan and I left with a beautiful wedding gown, which fitted like a glove. Everyone at Susan’s shop was always very nice and helpful. I had such a nice experience, I have decided to come back during winter time with some of my vintage gowns.

Great Experience

Susan was incredible to work with. With each dress fitting, I felt more confident that I had chosen the right dress and the right person to make it fit spectacular. I had three dress fittings. The entire staff was extremely professional and responsive. I had to change one of the appointments at the last minute, and she was very flexible. I was referred to Susan by one of my good friends, and she was worth every penny. I brought in a simple wedding gown that I needed altered and wanted to add a little something extra too, and we created the perfect overskirt that was exactly what I had in my head. I am *so* happy I chose the TWD for my wedding dress alterations and all my styling needs for my big day!

I am so thankful I went to the Wedding Dresser for my alterations and all my styling! Susan and her team were attentive, thorough and detailed. Susan is definitely an expert and she and her team exude professionalism and experience. My dress was the Cassia from BHLDN and was loaded with tulle - they helped guide me through a bustle that worked wonders and did not look unattractive as some bustles can! It looked beautiful and she altered the dress to perfection! The dress fit me like a glove and Susan was able to keep in tune with my weight loss leading up the wedding so that when the day came, I fit in perfectly. Everyone said my dress was a dream and I believe that is because the talented and experienced TWD team took care of my alterations. My dress had a ton of intricate and delicate beading and Susan and her team handled it with ease. Special shout out to Schuyler who was so nice and helpful - and obviously talented at what he does too! Now on to my accessories, I was feeling a bit lost about my belt and headpiece before meeting with Susan and her team. Isis was a dream in helping me choose the perfect ones. I wanted to see just about every single one in store and she was incredibly patient with me and my particular vision. :) I ended choosing a beautiful belt made in house (Soleil with ivory ribbon) and the perfect headpiece for my magical day. Tressa’s customer service was top notch and I was excited to come back for each fitting and then come to get my dress cleaned and preserved after the fact. I definitely recommend Susan and team for any bride who needs some TLC when it comes to her dress and styling for her big day! Thanks so much TWD!!!

Susan did a beautiful job adjusting my dress. I came to her with a dress and topper that were several sizes too large and had a short amount of time. She was able to completely take apart the topper and put back together perfectly.
The wedding dresser has very fair prices and provides a high quality and professional service. Highly recommend!

I wore my mom's dress from her wedding. The dress fit me pretty well, but after sitting in my mom's closet for more than 20 years, it needed some work. It was a bit wrinkled and needed a good cleaning. Some things needed to be fixed and there were some minor alterations it needed. After 3 fittings with Susan, the dress fit me perfect like it was made for me! the dry cleaning got out stains from 20 years ago, and all the wrinkles were gone.

After 6 months of dress shopping at EVERY boutique in the NYC area, I amazingly found my dream dress at David’s Bridal! That said, it LOOKED like a couture piece from a much higher end store (a trumpet shape with all over beading and lace and buttons and ruffles on the skirt), and when I had first asked the seamstress at DB about alterations, she cocked her head to the side and said she’d never done that dress and started suggesting the weirdest looking bustle. NOPE. I knew I had to look elsewhere for my alterations on this particular dress. I’m so glad I did my research because Susan was AMAZING. I was instantly drawn to the fact that she has a costuming/theatre background (I’m a performer myself and if a wedding dress isn’t a “costume” I don’t know what is!) and I knew I’d be in good hands with her work. I was able to make an appointment on relatively short notice about 6 weeks out with Susan who was sweet and extremely professional and has an amazing eye for detail. She double checked and even redid the work of some of her assistants to make sure it was just right (again, my dress was super complicated) and explained each alteration she would be making for financial transparency. At my first appointment I was a bit nervous with all of the pinning and whatnot on such a fancy dress (she even convinced me not to wear Spanx because it added an extra layer of fabric that the dress might gather on to make bulges… who knew?!), but when I came in for my second fitting IT FIT LIKE A GLOVE. I already looked like a million bucks and I didn’t want to take it off. We adjusted the hem and straps a little bit more and added some cups, and by the time I left my third appointment it was absolutely perfect. A huge shoutout to her hardworking team as apparently the skirt was a particular beast to hem (again, scalloped ruffles), but it was GORGEOUS and I am still getting compliments on the dress (and how amazing I looked IN IT). Thank you Susan and everyone at the Wedding Dresser!

Lovvveeedddd the way my dress fit me! I was suppose to be married in Puerto Rico in November 2017, but didn't because of Hurricane Maria. I went for my first wedding fitting in September 2017, a few days after the hurricane. I didn't know if we were to still marry at that time. Susan was very understanding and said she would hold my dress until everything settle down. I ended up cancelling and rescheduling my wedding four months later in Brooklyn. Susan even gave me advice on where to look for a venue. She honored the prices from 2017 and still gave me my three dress fittings. I had lost 13 pounds and went down a few dress sizes. My dress was big on me and had to be taken in. Fast forward to my last fitting -My dress was perfect! I loved it. It fit me like a glove! Everyone at Wedding Dresser was professional and accommodating. I will have to come back and post my professional pictures and more details of my dress!

I decided to use Susan and her team based in part on online reviews, so let me advise the next round of brides: hire them! I had a lovely experience getting fitting and alterations here with a sample dress I bought online for 50% off. No pressure to do anything I didn't want, which can be a relief in the upselling world of wedding dress shopping. Susan, Schuyler, Tressa, and everyone else were friendly and relaxed. My wedding dress looked beautiful and felt comfortable-- you're in excellent hands with these guys.

Schuyler was amazing! He came to the venue and, while we were having our hair and makeup done, steamed my dress, veil, sash, and all of our shawls. My dress had undergone a car ride from the midwest to NYC and was significantly wrinkled up until the morning of the wedding. By the time he had finished up, the dress was perfect. He also tied my sash with a gorgeous bow and helped me put on my veil. Throughout the entire experience, Schuyler was warm, helpful, and incredibly detail-oriented. I am so happy he was there!

I decided to try out Susan based on all the glowing reviews I'm so glad I did! Her space is a little bit unconventional - not a storefront, but inside a residential Brooklyn apartment building. That's part of its charm. When you walk in for your first fitting, you see the many accessories she has for sale along the wall - many pieces that have a vintage look. Her lovely assistant Tressa helps you get in and out of the gown, and Susan gives careful consideration to your dress and your needs. My dress has a chiffon overlay on top of beautiful lace, and she designed my bustle to allow the lace to peak through in the back - a really unique, personal touch that looked BEAUTIFUL. She made a video on how to fasten the bustle that was very helpful to my Maid of Honor on the Day-Of. One little snag I hit was that I left my wedding shoes at her apartment during my final fitting and I only realized the day before the wedding! Susan was kind enough to offer to courier the shoes to the hotel I was getting ready the next day. I was nervous, but when I got to the hotel, sure enough, they were there waiting for me with the concierge. Now THAT'S service!

Susan has a kind and gentle way that makes working with her really a pleasure. She did a flawless job on my couture gown, and I have to say, I'm sad I have no more excuses to go see her! One last note of recommendation - I opted for 2 hours of their "Dressing Service" on my wedding day, which was FANTASTIC. I originally booked it because I simply needed someone to steam my dress, but it turned out the person they sent was a professional Fashion Stylist named Stacie. Stacie arrived at my hotel to steam my dress, advise on where to fasten an heirloom broach to my dress; then she came with me to the venue to "fluff" me for the Pro photos. She and my photographer got along great, and I have to say they were really a dream team! So if you're on the fence about the Dressing Service - don't hesitate, it's worth it.

I purchased my dress at a sample sale, and there was A LOT of work to do. Susan and her team did a great job explaining everything that needed to be done, the complexity of it, but reassuring me I was in great hands. I was sent to Susan two days before my wedding - the original seamstress missed something on my dress and was no longer available to fix it. In less than an hour, Susan and her team had completely fixed the issue. Additionally, Susan came up with another undergarment option for me, as my first one didn't seem to be working. I got my dress from Lovely. As they don't have in-house tailors, I needed to find someone to help with my dress -- and the vendors they recommended were both expensive and located in Manhattan. My mom did some additional research and found Susan. After reading the New York Times article about her, we decided she would likely be a good fit.

I was expecting to just be hiring a tailor, but in the end Susan also ended up supplying most of my accessories as well. She custom-made my cathedral-length veil with blusher (for half the price I was prepared to pay at Lovely); I also bought my hairpiece there, a pair of vintage crystal earrings, and, in a last-minute decision, a pair of long gloves. It was much more convenient to be able to pick out accessories with the dress, and overall her accessories were just as elegant, if not more so, than those at the fancy wedding boutiques at half the price.

My gown was form-fitting, so it required a lot of work in terms of alterations. Susan and her team did a great job in fitting it to my body and making some last-minute switches after some wedding-stress-related weight loss. She also set up the dress's bustle, and showed me how to walk in the dress (which was a challenge in itself!) Overall, it was great to work with Susan and I'd highly recommend her services.

Seriously, I had the loveliest time working with her and never felt like I was being price gouged, upsold, or any of the other things I've heard from brides dealing with alterations and such. Susan and her team are fantastic. She went above and beyond to fix my wedding dress as it was poorly constructed in its original condition. She made sure I was happy and was always accommodating my crazy schedule for our fittings. On my last fitting, the dress still needed a few tweaks and she/her team fixed it within a few hours - we went out to lunch and came back to a perfectly fitting dress!! I needed some changes made to my wedding dress, I wanted to use my mother’s dress, but it needed a little bit of updating. Even though I've given 5 star reviews to al of my vendors so far, The Wedding Dresser definitely deserves the high rating. I purchased a sample dress that was an awkward fit, as it was too big is some places and too small in others. Complicating the matter was that the seaming of my dress wasn't like most dresses (it created an S-shape along the torso), and the dress had a giant embellished shoulder piece with a stand-up collar. Moreover, my weight fluctuated the entire time I was in alterations: I lost weight, then gained weight, then lost even more weight, requiring two or three additional fittings. Susan and her staff handled it expertly. The complicated alterations were perfectly done, and everyone could not have been nicer or more professional. I attended most fittings by myself, and her staff was super helpful and honest about how the dress was fitting. Susan was also knowledgable and helpful in shopping for undergarments, sending me to the perfect place for me. Susan also dropped the dress off at the cleaners a couple days before the wedding, saving me an errand during an already jam-packed wedding week. By the wedding day, the dress looked perfect. It was unbelievably well-altered, so much so that multiple guests asked if it was custom made! Susan and her team are truly skilled magicians/seamstresses!

Susan and her team were fantastic in every way. I contacted her quite last minute to tailor my wedding dress. I only had about 3 1/2 weeks before leaving town for the big day. Susan responded to me immediately and fit me in right away. She even made time to tailor the groom's jacket.

She did a phenomenal job. I just could not get over how well the dress fit me. It was as if I lost 10 pounds and grew taller!!

You will not be disappointed with Susan's services. She's so professional, responsive, accommodating and her prices are so reasonable.

My husband and I were married in March and while it has taken me quite some time to get around to writing this review, it has nothing to do with our experience. Susan altered my dress as well as my husband's suit and I felt as though I could trust her from the very beginning. She asked questions to get a feel for the style of our wedding and was very clear about what I should expect from her and what she needed from me.

Even when I didn't know what I wanted, she gave me options to help me make decisions. I feel like she made it her mission to educate us of all our options, empowering us to make informed decisions.

The quality of work was impeccable and everything was ready with plenty of flexibility. Susan even helped me Skype my last fitting with my mom, which meant a lot to both of us.

With all of the stress involved with planning a wedding. it was such a relief to know that my husband and I would look amazing on our special day!

The Wedding Dresser provided bridal gown alterations services for me. They were fantastic. Susan is highly professional, kind and accommodating to all the brides she serves and I would strongly recommend her to any bride.

I had a fully beaded lace gown for my wedding in NYC, which I bought as a sample from a store near my parents-in-law in South Dakota. The dress needed to be shortened and taken in a bit. Being that it was fully beaded, I wanted to find the best alterations team possible in NYC. Believe me, Susan and her team are the best. Originally recommended to me by my wedding planner (Kate from Green Apple Weddings), when I learned that all (or most?) of Susan's team has worked (or still does) in the theater business with costumes and other intricate clothing, I felt confident that The Wedding Dresser was the kind of vendor that actually had the level of skill and expertise that other big name bridal stores promise.

I could not be happier with the work that Susan and her team did. Their alterations were fantastic, even though my dress was probably not easy to alter (being fully beaded). Their level of service was amazing and highly personalized. I live overseas and they were flexible and responsive in communications and very accommodating of my unique circumstances. They 'hosted' my dress at their shop for the entire time it was being altered, as well as two cocktail dresses I had also brought to them. Susan also agreed to give my mother a lesson in how to lace up the dress the day before the wedding!

Susan also solved a long-standing question of mine -- what do I do with the dress after the wedding? As an overseas bride, I had no apartment in NYC to leave it in and left NYC for my honeymoon 36 hours after my wedding. Susan was kind enough to come pick up my dress from my friend's apartment in Williamsburg and is currently having it cleaned and preserved and will send it to my father's house in Florida.

I was married almost three years ago, but have a such a clear and wonderful memory of my experience with Susan that I couldn't keep quiet. Susan took my 2 sizes too big/long Filene's Running of the Brides dress and transformed it into the gown of my dreams. She offered to do 4 fittings (instead of the agreed upon 3) just to make sure that the fit was exactly right. She also repaired some of the lace applique and completely rebuilt the bodice. As an added bonus, I was able to buy my chapel length veil from her for a song. Susan was professional, funny, and very knowledgeable. The only hiccup was the bustle--I thought I asked for French, but she accidentally did a regular. She was able to fix the error quickly and flawlessly--without charging me for the extra work. All in all, a fabulous experience and one I highly recommend!

Finding Susan was one of the biggest scores of my nearly 15 years living in New York City. I discovered her online just six weeks or so before my wedding, and contacted her immediately after reading many wonderful reviews of her work. She altered both my Badgley Mischka wedding dress for my wedding in Las Vegas last spring and my Carmen Marc Valvo gold lamé cocktail dress for our reception in NY the following week, and both dresses were absolutely perfect--they literally couldn't have fit better. For my Vegas dress, she suggested adding extra feathers to the hem (it was trimmed with feathers already, but they were rather lackluster) and it amplified the effect ten-fold: just perfect! I also bought an ivory feather capelet from her to match (they're beautiful and reasonably priced) and it made the entire look. Her prices were very fair and the service impeccable, including home delivery.

A few weeks ago, I contacted Susan again about having my wedding dress cleaned and buying another feather capelet (black this time) for a trip to Europe that was coming up in just days. Susan was characteristically sweet and accommodating, coming to my home in Brooklyn to pick up my dress and bringing feather pieces for me to select from (I found one that was perfect). She is a consummate professional and lovely to deal with, and I'll continue to sing her praises to all future brides I encounter! Thanks Susan!

Susan and her dream team were a miracle to find! I had searched high and low for someone TRUSTWORTHY to alter a dress I had purchased for $50 at a charity auction into something magnificent. While the alterations weren't complex, per sey, the material of the dress was a very delicate silk chiffon and so it was VERY easy for inexperienced hands to quickly destroy the dress. Upon finding Susan and meeting with her, I instantly knew she was the one to fix this dress. She was extremely receptive to my ideas while also providing alternative designs based on what the dress could 'do' and what would look right. At the end of the day, my dress perfectly channeled the Great Gatsby casual elegant 1920s feel i wanted without being overly-costumey. People at the wedding were in awe of the dress (was even told that i looked like Grace Kelly!!) and after telling them that I found it for $50 and had it altered, they were amazed the dress didnt cost me thousands of dollars.
If I could do it all over again, I would do it all the EXACT same way. Thank you Susan.

Susan and her team were just exceptional. I purchased a gorgeous lace Pronovias gown at a sample sale. It was in relatively good shape for being a sample and was close to my size, but it did need minor repair - and of course it needed to be fitted to someone who is not a 6'2 stick skinny supertall model. The consultants at Pronovias were kind enough to provide an estimate for alteration cost. I found Susan online as she was closer to me in Brooklyn, and I'm so glad that I did!

Susan and her team were responsive and accommodating both via email and phone. One of things that she did that I appreciated very much was take the time to itemize and explain every single alteration that she planned. It was pricey in my mind, however Susan's total cost - including the gorgeous Magnolia fascinator that I purchased for my hair - was still roughly $150.00 less than other estimates I had received. As we progressed through fittings, it turned out that a few more "fixes" were required, and she did not add charges for these. She even did one more fitting to make sure the hem of the overlay was perfect when bustled. She also coordinated my third fitting with a visit from my maid of honor, who lives out of town, and included extra time to show her how to bustle the dress.

I also have to include a note about her staff - everyone who works with her was incredibly kind, supportive, and helpful. I lost the back of one of my earrings while changing, and they were even kind enough to replace it for me. Her custom accessories are also stunning. I can't thank her and her team enough, and recommend her highly to any bride in need of alterations or accessories.

Susan and her staff are seriously miracle workers! I ordered a custom dress and when it arrived, I thought it needed minor alterations. I took it to Susan and she pointed out major flaws in the construction of the dress. Then she went the extra mile. She called the maker of the dress to tell them about all of the issues with my dress. The custom dress maker called me the next day, took back my poorly made gown and made me a new dress. When I received my new dress, I took it back to Susan and her team. I was worried that there was not enough time to do the alterations before the wedding, but Susan delivered yet again. I had my dress only 3 short days after giving it to her and it fit perfectly. I danced my tail off at my wedding and never once had to pull up or adjust my dress. Susan also took my maid of honor's measurements and helped her find a dress - at no additional charge. Furthermore, she was straightforward about the alterations that were needed, the time it would take and the price. She even recommended some vendors for other products like undergarments. Susan and her team delivered top notch alterations service with the most amazing attention to serving clients I have ever experienced.

Susan is the best!! Her craftsmanship and professionalism are top notch. My dress was a pretty simple one, so I think my alterations were minimal. However, the styling assistance that Susan provided was almost as invaluable as the alterations. She makes beautiful accessories as well as making dresses better, and the compliments I got on my headband were constant! Everyone loved it, and said it was the perfect addition to my wedding look.
She gave me as much time as I needed to discuss my dress, my jewelry, and just weddings in general. I loved her!!

I feel so lucky that I found Susan. I bought my wedding dress when I was 2 months pregnant and put it away in a closet for three months.

3 weeks before my wedding (and 5 months pregnant) I pulled out the dress and tried it on. It needed a lot of work.

Susan came to my apt and completely reworked my dress, even anticipating how much I'd grow in the three weeks between my first fitting and the wedding.

She was worth EVERY penny. I felt so beautiful at my wedding. I'd recommend her to anyone. Also, she suggested adding a bustle that ended up becoming my favorite part of the dress!

I can't say enough good things about Susan. I had not a clue where to buy a wedding dress let alone have it altered. After purchasing a dress from JCrew on sale on line, I realized my dress needed some serious help with alterations. When I found out that Susan was local to Brooklyn (I live in Park Slope) and comes to your home I felt like I struck gold. The fear of schleping my dress on the subway disappeared. On my first meeting with Susan we instantly clicked, she is warm, professional and gives great advice. Susan gave me great suggestions for my hair, flowers, tips on how to stretch out my shoes and even made me the silk flower for my hair. Susan works with your budget and time to make sure both you and she are completley comfortable and there are no surprises. Susan went above and beyond the call of duty for wedding alteration expert. Not only did she come to my apartment FOUR times (or was it three? still...), she counseled me through my last-minute bride freakout where I was talking crazy talk, thinking I needed a whole new dress, etc. She absolutely TRANSFORMED my dress into one that no one else on the planet will ever have. I just got my photos back and I am so pleased with how great I look in all of them. That's thanks in no small part to Susan. They helped me make my dress work

I bought an almost completely sheer dress that I absolutely loved with the intention of just wearing a leotard under it for the wedding. But after months of not finding anything that paired well with the dress, I finally decided to see if Wedding Dresser could build something into my structureless dress. I was so nervous about getting anything altered that could ruin the dress, but Susan and her team immediately proposed sewing in a simple lining to the front, leaving the back sheer as I liked it. The work they did perfectly maintained the spirit of the dress while making it actually wearable. The work was a little more expensive than I'd like, but they listened to my concerns, problem solved, and executed the vision so well, it was definitely worth it. The work was fast and efficient, communication was clear, and multiple reminders were always sent for appointments. Definitely recommend.

Perfect Alterations

The Wedding Dresser team did an incredible job altering my dress and were lovely to work with! My dress was a sample and needed some minor adjustments, and by my final fitting with Susan and Schuyler it fit perfectly. They were so flexible and listened to my concerns, offering suggestions and styling ideas. Tressa was really helpful in scheduling follow-up fittings and finding time in their calendar, especially in the weeks leading up to the wedding which I really appreciated. One thing that sets The Wedding Dresser apart are the accessories they offer in-house, and the option to try out different accessories during fitting appointments with your dress and getting a second opinion. I ended up choosing one of their cathedral veils which worked perfectly! The only snag I experienced was my bustle breaking during cocktail hour, but luckily had a friend on hand who easily repaired it. In the grand scheme of things, it was a small issue and other than that, my dress fit like a dream. I'd highly recommend the Wedding Dresser if you're looking for alterations in Brooklyn!

Great alteration shop located in an apartment building in Leffert's Garden, Brooklyn. Susan the shop owner is awesome--super friendly and gives you slot of attention when you are there. The people who work in her shop are great too, everyone makes you feel comfortable. Pricing was straight forward although a bit on the high side. I had multiple dresses altered and they all came out great. Susan was very detail oriented and able to fix very tricky dresses (Indian wedding dress) and make them all look great. They offer accessories as well so I picked out my wedding earrings here after being dissapointed with everything else I found online and in stores. Good price on the jewelry. Only thing to note is it is a bit hard to get to. Depending on where you live, you might want to take a cab to avoid carting your stuff on the subway and there is a fair bit of Brooklyn traffic in that area so give yourself plenty of time for travel.

Susan was lovely to work with. I had purchased a J.Crew dress at a deep discount, but it needed to be taken in a bit. Not only did Susan fit the dress... she also added a sweet bustle for the train. Her prices seemed a bit high to me (perhaps because the dress was so inexpensive), but the tailoring was impeccably done and the dress fit like a dream. Thank you, Susan & friends!

I purchased my dress at a Filene's Basement Bridal Gown sale and after calling a few bridal gown stores for tailor recommendations (and being rudely declined) and surfing the web for reviews which were equally good and bad, I was *very* relieved to find Susan. She *only* does weddings and has significant experience doing costumes for broadway. She did a wonderful job, taking my dress in a full size, hemming, and adding cups, moving beading and repairing some as well. She also made my veil and a feather bolero jacket for *very* reasonable prices. And she comes to your apartment for your fittings (unless you want to go to her Brooklyn studio).

I didn't give a 5 out of 5 on value only because the prices were a bit higher than I was expecting, but then again, it was worth it to me to get someone who was as easy to work with and who did such a good job. She also mentioned that she gives her seamstresses a living wage. Note: I did not get other estimates, so I don't have a fair method for comparison.

I loved working with Susan - she was always on time, very reliable, a nice, friendly person who made me feel comfortable and calmed my fears about both attire and other aspects of the wedding.

My husband couldn't believe how I looked in my dress. Susan Ruddie did such an amazing job. There was a lot of lace appliqué on the hem that had to be tended to in order to raise the line; you couldn't even tell it was sewn back wonderfully. I also needed to have some kind of jacket or sleeves, as modesty was a factor for the ceremony. Susan created and designed the perfect top that seamlessly fit with my sleeveless dress and then easily could be taken off to allow me to have fun at the reception.

And so many brides also want a lovely bustle; mine was great in that it not only kept the dress off the ground and didn't fall or come apart once (like some others), it was done in such a lovely way that you could still see the lace at the back of the dress. I got nothing but compliments on my dress and her hard work showed. It's definitely not cheap, but it’s comparable to bridal salons except with much more flexibility – and you do in fact get what you pay for. Plus, she does house calls - which was great so I never had to worry about dragging around my dress to get done.

It is absolutely impossible for me to recommend Susan enough. First of all, she makes house calls, at least in Brooklyn. I am a terrible klutz, so the idea of traveling with my dress was terrifying, plus doing fittings at home is super convenient. She even delivered my dress to the hotel so that I would not have to schlep it anywhere! But most importantly, her work was amazing. I'm petite, and my dress was not, and it ended up needing major surgery especially to the corset and bodice. Susan had wonderful ideas for making it work, and executed them perfectly. I not only got many compliments on my dress, but I actually got compliments on how well it fit! She has experience both in theater and at Kleinfeld's, and you can definitely tell. And on top of all that, Susan is kind, funny, knowledgeable, responsive - just a dream to work with. Her services are not cheap - they compare with alteration prices at most bridal salons - but she is worth every penny.

I fell in love with a BHLDN dress online and snapped it up when it came back to their site in my size only - then I crossed my fingers. It arrived, as lovely as I imagined, but as a larger-busted bride, the delicate and fairly unsupportive dress needed some work to make it support and flatter my body. I was terrified that alterations would destroy a dress so gossamer and perfect I never tried on another, so I knew the wedding alterations team I chose would have to be a great one.

I did my research. LOTS OF IT. And again and again, Susan and her team were it. Susan’s theater experience, and decades of bridal expertise mean she knows any garment, any age, all body types, inside and out. This was a woman who would respect and understand a beautiful dress, and find a way to make it work. I went to her original space for my first fitting - a tulle, ostrich, rhinestone wonderland - and could tell immediately that my experience would go perfectly. She developed a plan to attach a detachable low-backed corset, brought the delicate tulle boatneck laid flat against my sternum, and tried on a few veil options with an antique crown I had boat. My next two appointments in her new Industry City space saw Susan expertly fit my gorgeous dress to me - as well as my mom’s, and my bridesmaid’s dresses - they each have different body types to mine, and had dresses that were long and covered in intricate beading and sequins. My mom was also able to purchase a few hairpins from her accessories line, which helped make the process even easier. I heard again and again how lovely and unusual my dress was, and it looks PERFECT in our photos.

I recommended her to two very different style and body type brides with very different dresses, and they had experiences that were just as positive as mine.

I bought my dress online and had it custom sized, so I had done a pretty good job at getting it to fit well on my body. When I brought it here to get altered, I needed to take in the chest, add straps, and add a bustle. Susan and her team were very helpful and did a great job with my alterations. I had minimal work done to the dress, so bringing it in for the first time 12 weeks before the wedding during the off-season was plenty of time to get all the alterations done. Susan also suggested I rent a short fur shawl for the photos since the weather was cooler for my autumn wedding. I ended up spending more money on the alterations than I did on the dress, but I knew I would have a hard time finding a dress to fit my petite frame and larger chest, and Susan did a great job perfecting my dress.

I was introduced to Susan by my wedding planner. I wanted a dresser to help me get ready on the big day and to help my parents and my large bridal party with any wardrobe issues. This was one of the best wedding decisions I made because Susan gave me the wonderful Stacie as my stylist. I don’t know what I would have done without her. She prepped my dress, helped my parents and maids of honor get ready and she even helped place my dress during pictures (my photographer loved her!) We did a first look and photos before the actual ceremony and Stacie made sure we all looked just as fresh as we did earlier in the day. She was such a savior and I am so thankful to have had her with me on my big day.

Susan did a fantastic job on my alterations! I went to her so that I could have fittings at home and when I made my appointment we planned for this, but due to some last minute schedule changes, I actually ended up having 2 out of my 3 fittings at her studio in Brooklyn. It is not hard to get to, but does take a little bit of time sitting on the subway if you are coming from Manhattan. Bring a book! The most important fitting however, the last one, was done at my apartment, so she brought the dress from Brooklyn and then I had it without having to worry about schlepping it anywhere. She was very friendly and attentive and the dress looked absolutely gorgeous on the day of the wedding, with the perfect length. She found a smart solution to a problem part of my dress that tended to come undone by putting on pretty lace buttons. Mildly pricier than the flat rate for alterations at the store where I bought my dress, but in my mind it was worth it to have the peace of mind of a quick, personal response when you need to make/change an appointment or have a question, and knowing your dress isn't lost in a mountain of others! Thank you!

Great Experience

Susan and the team at the Wedding Dressing in industry city were such a big part of my day! My dress was from BHLD and I knew it needed to be tackled. Susan and the team were efficient and quick. Email responses were thorough and timely. My only issue is that the room can get hot. So if you get hot easily, make sure to ask for the fan to be on you. It isn't a cheap alteration, but my dress was perfect, so I got over it quickly.

The Wedding Dresser does impeccable work. My dress fit me like a glove and the workmanship was so quality. The Wedding Dresser's office is in an apartment in Flatbush, Brooklyn. It is cramped and very warm in the summer and not that easy to get to. However, the quality of the work more than made up for that inconvenience. Plus, they are planning to move to a more centrally located workspace in the near future. Definitely book your alterations ahead to avoid a time crunch because their schedule gets pretty full. Also, be prepared for a seamstress with a rather tough exterior - but, really, how tough can you be if weddings and love are your trade!? Full marks for The Wedding Dresser!

Made my dream dress a reality!

They made my dream dress come to life! I had ordered online sight unseen in a standard size and wasn't sure it would work out in real life. When it arrived it needed some definite refinement before it went down the aisle. The team at the Wedding Dresser knew how to fix all my pain points (top too big, too hard to walk in, fixing the raw hem) and also identified a few things that would make it look better that I hadn't noticed (fixing some uneven pleating in the skirt.) For some reason I did have to remind them twice that we had agreed to fix the hem but they gave me a discount as a result. Definitely recommend!

I found Susan via Yelp and I had a great experience with her. My wedding was on Sept. 2, but I was going to be traveling for six months leading up to the wedding and I needed my dress to be hemmed and altered. Luckily, Susan and her team were very accommodating and did a fantastic job. I only came in for one fitting in June and the next time I saw my dress was a few days before the wedding. It turned out wonderfully!

Nothing ever fits me right, but I don’t trust those big bridal shops and the small boutiques are just too snooty. The price was right and the time frame was perfect. Kind people who know their stuff. I’d trust them with any garment.

So disappointed in Susan Ruddie's service. She absolutely ruined my dress. The hem was not cut straight and it was so rigid, it was completely noticeable. The dress was so horrible that I had to go and buy another dress.
She over charges for her services that are not even done right.
She messed up my bridesmaids dresses as well.
To make matters worse, after about 4 fittings she didn't even know I was the bride. She really is a mess.

I had read such wonderful reviews of The Wedding Dresser and thought I would give her a try since I had a simple dress and didn't need an insane amount of work done. I knew my dress was fairly thin and needed a new lining and I wanted it shortened to just below my knees. I also knew it had to be taken in under the arms since my bra showed. She said I didn't need a new lining and only shortened it. It took two and a half weeks to shorten my dress and I had to call twice to ask if it was ready to pick up. When I tried it on again my bra was still showing but she wouldn't take it in, she just put in these little hooks that did nothing and rubbed against my skin. At that point I knew she didn't want to do anymore work on my dress so I just took it and left. I also bought a sash from her and she charged me for four yards of the ribbon even though my sash ended up being less than that. One of her assistants pointed this out and she just glared at her. I should have fought about it but I was just fed up. In total the hemming of my dress and the sash came to over $200 which is beyond ridiculous. I took my dress to a different tailor and paid a little over $100 to have a new lining put in, have it taken in and cleaned and pressed. Way more reasonable for what I actually wanted. Also, her studio smells really weird and as a result my dress smelled when I picked it up and had to air it out. Definitely would not recommend.
