The Perfect Rustic Chic Venue!
From the first moment we saw it, we knew that The Village at Boulder Ridge was the perfect wedding venue for us. We love the rustic aesthetic and the way that the multiple available spaces allowed us to create a flow for our evening.
Heather has added so many lovely details to the space, including the PERFECT chairs, a beautifully redone bridal suite, and gorgeous lighting. The brand new bar in the cozy fireplace lounge was such a nice touch and our guests liked having that separate space to take a break from the dancing and sign our guest book. There is also a dramatic staircase to walk down if you have your ceremony outside by the gazebo and it makes for STUNNING pictures.
Throughout the whole process, Heather listened to our vision and helped us make it a reality. She was flexible and accommodating and always willing to let us come tour the space again if we had a decor question or wanted to show someone else. She and her team worked together seamlessly the day of our event, making sure everything went smoothly. We don't live locally and didn't end up getting to taste the food ahead of time but everything was delicious and the bartenders made a mean cocktail!

Completely fantastic
My husband and I had just paid Boulder Ridge for an indoor event with about 150 people and 5 days before our event we tested positive for covid. After reviewing our options we elected to ask the venue if we could scratch months of planning and move everything outdoors, and not only did Heather say yes with less than a week to go, everything turned out GREAT. We informed all our guests of the situation and changes, came back with an updated head count, and they took care of the rest. If I could give 10 out of 5 stars for flexibility I would. Everyone was great, nice, professional, and the food was DELICIOUS. They even packaged up leftovers for us and put them in our car. My guests had a great time (more importantly no one caught covid at the reception) and tons of them said it was one of the best weddings they'd ever been to. At this point my only regret is not going for a 6 hour reception instead of 5. I'm dying for an excuse to hold another event there someday. My husband and I had just paid Boulder Ridge for an indoor event with about 150 people and 5 days before our event we tested positive for covid. Amazing experience!
We had the MOST PERFECT wedding at The Village at Boulder Ridge. We had to find a new venue at the last minute and we were so lucky that Boulder Ridge had a cancellation on our date. Nicole and Jess went out of their way for us in so many ways and worked so hard to meet our needs. We had some guests who were high risk for Covid and the staff made so many accommodations to make sure that everyone was safe and they did such a fantastic job! No one got sick even though we had 100 guests. They were VERY well organized and did everything just how we wanted. The food was AMAZING and they were so accommodating for our guests with allergies. The venue was absolutely gorgeous and it was such a positive atmosphere. All of our guests were talking about how beautiful everything was, how great the staff were, and how much they loved the food. The bartenders kept the energy up of the guests the entire night. The staff also went out of their way to accommodate our Bulgarian traditions. Everything went so smoothly and the staff were so flexible with us. We HIGHLY recommend The Village at Boulder Ridge for any event!!! They completely exceeded our expectations! We received numerous compliments on our wedding and this venue, with a number of people stating that it was easily the best wedding they had every been to! Liz and Nicole were extremely helpful, answering all of my questions quickly and accurately. During the wedding, Liz took care of everything, such that I just showed up and had a wonderful day! We had our wedding on a Sunday from 11:30am-5pm with 80-100 people. They allowed us to get ready in the Bridal Suite, which was very spacious with a private restroom, and to take pictures on the grounds before the ceremony. The ceremony was located at their beautiful gazebo, which has power available for music. Our reception followed in the pavilion with a BBQ lunch and ice cream sunday bar; we even had a small dance floor for our first dance. They provided beautiful round tables with white linen and napkins colored to match our theme. From 2-5pm, we opened up the swimming pool, climbing tower/zip-line, and lake with kayaks and water trampoline, which were all very reasonably priced and extremely fun. There were changing rooms available for the guests. In addition, we were able to bring in a petting zoo ourselves. All of the guests enjoyed these activities, and the staff made it fun and safe for everyone! In addition, if you are looking for a more traditional wedding (or a winter wedding), they have a beautiful and very large ballroom inside along with the "fireplace room", which would make for a great winter ceremony. We were so impressed by the Village at Boulder Ridge. My husband and I visited many venues before this one and they all were overpriced and had that "Wedding Factory" feel. Boulder Ridge was not only affordable but beautiful! There is so much space. The grounds are beautiful, the entryway is gorgeous. The staff there were incredible, our guests complimented us on how friendly and helpful everyone was. If we needed anything on our day, we just had to ask anyone on the staff and they immediately responded with "I'll take care of it". The food was also great (or so I've heard, I had barely two bites).
Before the wedding Liz was so helpful. We met with her a couple times and she was great. She went above and beyond with little details like putting lavender ribbons on the cake table. We were able to come in and decorate the space the week before the wedding which made everything less stressful.
I would recommend Boulder Ridge to anyone looking for a rustic yet elegant space to have their wedding. We were so impressed by the Village at Boulder Ridge. They were fantastic throughout the whole wedding and planning and have have great spaces for outdoor or indoor weddings. We were planning outdoor, and then it rained the entire week leading to the wedding, and was pretty cold out, so we decided on indoor 2 days before. Inside, looks like a barn, very rustic, and you get married in front of a huge stone fireplace that can be decorated with flowers, or candles. Outside is in front of a pond, with a white gazebo. Either way, great options. For the reception you can mix indoor, outdoor, and a pavilion buffet. For pictures, they are also down the road from the Barkhamsted reservoir, which is really really pretty
One other really cool thing about them as a place, is that it would be really easy to do a super offbeat wedding there. They have a pool, zip lines, bocci courts, volleyball courts, a climbing wall, ect, which all can be used (for a fee) during the day if you wanted to do more of a picnic and games type thing. We didn't end up using the facilities at all, but at the beginning we had thought about it.
Leading up to the wedding, they were very responsive and helpful, just all around great. Day of, same thing. Everything went smoothly, the food was delicious, the place looked great.
Potential downsides: They are out of the way a bit, and there are not good hotel options. The closest hotels are either at Bradly, Avon, or Torrington, all about 15-20 minutes drive, and at night, the area is dark with small roads. So, if you are having a mostly out of town wedding this is a bit of a problem. They also don't do food tastings, so you just have to trust them...which we did, and the food was outstanding. One of their reasons for not doing food tastings is that they buy everything locally the week before the wedding something I really liked.

My husband and I wanted a venue that was completely different from our first marriages. We also wanted a wedding that reflected our personalities. It was out goal to make our wedding about not just the celebration of our wedding but the celebration of thanks to all of our family and friends who stood by us through the years. Amny of our friends and families have children and since hy husband and I have 5 kids between us, it was important that children be a part of our wedding. It was a HOT August day and we used the outing menu that provided 2 meals, watermelon break, ice cream and lots of very good food. The entire facility was open to our guests once lunch was over and they used it. I have amazing pictures of our children swimming, zip lining. playing on the boats. Our wedding album is awesome! There were so many places that made amazing backrounds. The staff went over the top being friendly and accommodating. Nick and Liz were so helpful. I cant say anything that I would of changed or have made better. Rustic location that will definitely impress your family and friends! Family-owned and absolutely accommodating. Nick, Liz and Kevin made everything easy. The grounds are actually a day camp in the summer-time and you can use the facility for your guests if you'd like. The reception area is so spacious and can fit almost 300 people. The dance floor is huge and the room with the fireplace made a great location to get married since it was cooler than expected at the gazebo. Can't put in to words how beautiful, unique, and perfect everything was. You'd be lucky to get married here - we were :)Rustic location that will definitely impress your family and friends! The staff members at The Village were fantastic to work with. They were always willing to help, more than happy give us feedback when asked and did everything they could to make our day the best it could be! We had a Renaissance Themed wedding and the Village was the perfect setting for such an event! Some of the staff members even ran home and grabbed some renaissance garb to fit in! The food was delicious. They dont offer tastings, but you dont need it. Our family and friends keep telling us how great everything was and how kind and pleasant the waitstaff was. They even allowed us to use a close friend as bartender! You have nothing to worry about when you work with these folks! The staff members at The Village were fantastic to work with. The staff at The Village at Boulder Ridge were very pleasant and friendly to our wedding guests as well as ourselves.
We had an outdoor ceremony and due to the distance people had to walk from outside back into the building, it was challenging for some of the elderly guests. The staff gave rides to these guests on golf carts which was extremely helpful.
The food options were wonderful and we loved the buffet set up. It was easy to navigate and the rooms are very spacious.
Just be sure to be specific with asking what they actually provide for decor, right down to the style of the chairs. I was expecting a certain type of outdoor chair from looking at all of their photos and advertisements, but they ended up setting up a completely different style and the chairs looked plastic, not wooden, for our ceremony. That was disappointing.
If you're looking for a very natural backdrop, The Village is a great location. The grass needs some work, but we were very pleased with the greenery. The view by the pond is beautiful.

One of the reasons that we chose The Village was that they host only one reception at a time. Also, the bride has a private room, and the facility is large and welcoming in appearance.
Overall, we were very pleased. If there is one criticism, it is that the air conditioning was completely insufficient! They were, however, very accommodating and moved the ceremony to the dance floor because the room for the ceremony was much too hot. They put 2 powerful fans out on the dance floor, which was appreciated, but also very necessary.
Everyone liked the food. The service staff was exceptionally professional and very nice. The guests said that they liked the food and had a nice time...in spite of the temperature.
