The photos Paul took of our wedding literally stun me how gorgeous they are. There are at least 100 of them I would print on a canvas. I am not someone who loves having my photo taken and I was a bit nervous about the engagement photo / wedding photo process. (What if I don't look good?!) I feel like every photo captured the true essence of us, our family and our friends while also giving a good overview of the day. He also stayed later than most photographers so I feel the value was great. He is also hilarious and so fun to work with.

I first met Paul when he was the photographer at my sister's wedding. He was great to work with and her photos were AH-mazing. I wish I could have hired him to take MY wedding photos!

A few years later, we hired Paul for a family photo shoot, our first one! :) It was a difficult day for us (husband found out he didn't get a job he had interviewed for) but we were trying to make the best of it. Paul was fantastic. His friendly, positive attitude and how he interacted with my kids totally changed the day around for us. He worked so well with our family and was able to get their personalities to shine through in his shots. We have some of the most breath taking pictures of our family and I truly appreciate the experience and photos that Paul provided us that day.

Paul is one of the most talented photographers I have ever had the pleasure to work with. He was very responsive from the moment I sent my first email until I received my stunning wedding photo book. Paul is absolutely awesome! His natural talent is evident in every shot he takes. I have used Paul twice for family photos (when my first son was 6 months & second son was 2 weeks) & recommend him to all my friends & family. They too have used him for engagement & wedding photography & have been extremely impressed with his work. He knows what he is doing & I liked that I could trust him.

On both occasions, Paul was always accessible & prompt with a reply. I am not a person who likes to be in front of a camera & Paul brought out the best of me. He made me feel comfortable & confident. My husband is a very particular person, and agrees that Paul is a phenomenal photographer. I can't wait to use him again next year!

I had followed Paul for years on Facebook/Instagram before finally selecting him to shoot our wedding. His naturalistic style and knack for shooting far more than the basic wedding shots had always intrigued me. We got married on April Fool's Day, which fell on a Tuesday. He was incredibly accommodating. He arrived on time and scouted out the 36 acre ranch where we wed. Some of my favorite shots are of our first look, where he picked a location that I would have never picked; it was up against an old storage truck. While I never doubted his ability, I also never thought that the photos would come out as stunningly beautiful as they did. He made choices to shoot my bridesmaids and groomsmen in two separate areas and I could not have been more pleased with the outcome. When it came to the ceremony, he captured the sheer joy that we experienced that day, and I cannot say enough about the reception photos. We are not your average couple, and I didn't ever want to have just average wedding photos. Paul went above and beyond. I honestly feel like most of my photos could be magazine worthy. We received sneak peak photos within a months time and had over 900 edited photos received within 2-3 months. If I were to do it all over again, I would still pick him over any other photographer, hands down. Not only does he have an incredible eye, but he is charming and personable to boot! Can't beat that! Thank you Paul for memories that we will never forget!

Paul is such a talented and personable wedding photographer. He did a beautiful job on our engagement shoot and wedding photos. He is prompt on photo delivery and I'd highly recommend him to others. It was very challenging selecting a wedding photographer. We are based out of New York and were getting married in Napa so picking the person who we were going to entrust with our best memories was a pretty big task, especially from across the country. We found Paul on the recommendation of our planner and had two skype phone calls with him. He explained everything to us and answered all of our questions in a way that made it easy to understand (you only get married once and there was a lot of things we were unsure about). Paul's imagery and undeniable enthusiasm for working with his clients sold us completely. We love our images an have three large prints on our wall. He was able to make us both comfortable in front of the camera and gave us a some wonderful images of us laughing and having fun together as well as some romantic images. If we were to do it all over again Paul would be our guy for certain.

I have to preface this with saying that Paul saved my wedding day. No Joke. It was a super small thing, but it made all the difference. This is embarrassing, but part of my dress ripped when I put it on, one of the clasps at the top. I was worried that I was going to be stuck wearing a dress with a broken clasp and worrying about it all afternoon and night. But, nope! Here comes Paul with a needle and thread!! Haha! With a little help from my brides maid my dress was all mended and ready to clasp properly. I mean, come on. What photographer comes prepared for the worst with a needle and thread. We where all blown away.
Okay, with that said, its pretty easy to tell how my fiancé and I feel about Paul. He is incredible and his images are otherworldly. I am so happy we hired him. He is so good at getting both of you to relax and really focus on each other. The images that we received are a true reflection of our connection. I love love love looking at them.
Hire the guy. He brings a needle and thread people! Hehe. Thanks Paul! Both Brian and I love you!!

Pauls work was exactly what my wife and I were looking for. Something not overly posed that still had a editorial vibe and really showed us a we are. Paul shot a mixture of film and digital on our wedding day which was such a fascinating thing to witness, and from what I can tell, contributes wonderfully to the timeless look of our images. Paul was professional and very personable. We had many guests ask us if he was an invited guest, which again is what we love about him. I have no doubt that his ability to blend in enabled him to create all of the incredible candid images we received from our wedding. Our images where delivered via digital link and a web gallery about 3 weeks after the wedding. We loved working with Paul and highly recommend his services.

I don't know where to begin when describing how awesome PVR is! We were blown away by our wedding and engagement photos...I don't consider myself a photogenic person but he was able to make both of us look fantastic and really captured who we are. Whenever I show our photos to people, they comment that they don't look like your typical wedding pictures, Clearly because they are not your typical wedding pictures! Paul is just hands on enough and encouraged us to interact just as we typically would. At first, I thought it would be weird, but it turned out to be really fun. It is so nice having these memories recorded for us. I love looking back on them through Pauls images. I also need to talk about how great he is at wrangling family and making sure that family photography doesn’t suck up your entire day. He totally laid down the law in a fun an positive way that got everyone set up and smiling as quick as possible and then off to the cocktail hour. We are so happy we hired Paul. Now that the day is over all we have left are his images… and they are absolutely perfect. You can’t go wrong hiring PVR. =)

Paul was a wonderful addition to our highly talented wedding support team. He created some amazing imagery for my husband and I that we will value for the rest of our lives. Living in Manhattan we needed to book our wedding photographer remotely which was a bit of a challenge. However, Paul made this a simple and painless process. He was available for facetime chats with us and walked us through his price list as well as explained how he would likely fit into our day of schedule. My husband and I are not the type of people who typically display pictures of ourselves around the home. SO it was a big deal when we booked Paul based on the fact that we both said we would in fact hang his work up in our home. Paul does an amazing job making your feel comfortable and have fun during your photography session. His style is a bit different than the traditional approach and we really appreciated that. Aside from all of that he is an amazing guy, his charisma is palpable and his confidence is infectious. I feel like his persona and attitude gave us confidence in what we were doing and in the end result made us look better in our photos. If that even makes sense! Ha! He was very helpful when it came to scheduling out our wedding and making sure we had the right amount of time to take photos with the best light of the day. He showed up early and even stayed a touch later. Our experience with Paul was top notch and we highly recommend him.

We initially hired two photographers to shoot our engagement photographs. Paul being one of them. I know it sounds weird, but our plan was to see who fit us best and connected with us best… and it was Paul, by a total long shot. The other photographer was a highly recommended very respected individual and did an amazing job, but, Paul blew both myself and my fiancé away. From there it was an easy choice to have Paul shoot our wedding. We love Paul’s ability to capture emotions in their natural state. He is definitely a hands on photographer and tells you what to do, but somehow does it without making you feel awkward or uncomfortable. I really love how he uses light too. It seems like all wedding photographers are making darker more moddy images these days. Pauls images are full of light and love. Isn’t that what a wedding should look like? He was fantastic on our wedding day and took loads of extra time to make sure we understood how he would fit into our day and what would work best for us. Our photos were delivered promptly and the gallery he sent with them was perfect for sharing with our friends and family as well as buying some prints to frame. We are so pleased with our decision to hire Paul and can only hope that he is available to shoot our vow renewal in a decade or so! Thanks again Paul!

Hiring Paul to shoot our wedding was a no brainer for us since he shot my sisters wedding… but we would have done it even if he didn’t. A photographer is one of the most important additions to your wedding ever. So we wanted to make sure we had the best, and we had him.

From our initial meeting with Paul we knew we had made the right choice. I was only ever able to see the final product from my sisters wedding so I missed out on most of the interaction with him. He is very organized and very knowledgeable about all things wedding. He was able to walk us through an outline of our wedding day on the spot without a timeline. It was so helpful and key in helping us understand everything and the flow of photos through out the day.

Our images easily surpassed our expectations and I would even say they are better than my sisters. Hehe. His images are so romantic and effortless feeling. I never felt like we were having a photo shoot or anything like that. He is so good at capturing the emotions of his subjects. When we look through our images its amazing how you feel. You are completely transported back into the moment, with all of the excitement and love.

We were so impressed with Paul. I can not recommend him enough. He is passionate about what he does. Clearly cares about his clients and goes the extra mile to make images that you will cherish for the rest of your life. Stop thinking and hire him! =)

Paul was by far our favorite vendor on our wedding day. He is so easy to work with and personable. From about 10 minutes into our first phone call with him we knew he was our photographer. He answered all of my questions thoroughly, made us feel comfortable about a couple timeline issues we knew we were going to run into and adjusted his collections for us to meet our budget. We shot engagement or images with him at the beach and in the hills for a rustic and Californian vibe (we sprung for the two location package). The images came out amazing. On our wedding day he showed up a bit early and jumped right into taking incredible images of my dress and bouquet. I am so happy I have those pictures now…although I will be honest and say it was funny to watch him obsess over the flowers at the time. ;) (sorry pvr). He is very low key during the day and blends in with guests which is nice because it seemed like we received a lot of amazing candid images. All in all he was worth every dime we paid him and we still feel like we got a deal! We are definitely using him again and recommend him to all of our friends and family.

If you're looking for a photographer who is going to photograph your wedding in an amazing way then Paul is your guy. He shot both our engagement session and wedding day. He was really easy to work with, very organized and professional, but also very fun at the same time. I've had incredible amounts of people ask who our photographer was because the images are just so beautiful. The images were delivered via an online gallery and a fast digital download. The majority were color, but we did get quite a few B&Ws as well, which suits me fine. I love black and white. ☺. Image turn around was reasonable considering he shoots a mix of ACTUAL film and digital. I couldn’t be happier with my decision to hire Paul. Do yourself a favor and hire him or you will likely disappointed in the long run (I say this solely based off of knowing I have the best looking wedding photos of all of my friends. Haha). =)

I was extremely nervous to be a 50 year old bride. I didn't want to look like an "older" bride and Paul captured my happiness that day and I never looked more beautiful in my life. He is magic with his camera. My husband and I LOVE our pictures from our wedding. He captured the events, entertainment, and love between us like no other. We had a beach wedding and the pictures look like the belong in a magazine, with waves crashing in the back ground and a sunset setting. If he can make a 50 year old bride look like she's in her early 30's imagine what he can do for you! I can't recommend him enough!

PVR was such an awesome addition to our wedding day, not only as our photographer, but as a person! Not only he make us feel at super relaxed and comfortable durning the engagement session and wedding, but we where blown away when we received our images. I wish I had another reason to hire him! We are hoping to do a maternity shoot soon... =) We took a lot of care in selecting our vendors and I know its challenging to pick a photographer with so many out there, but Paul is in a league of his own. If you hire him you wont be sorry. My husband and I wish we lived in Orange County so we could find an excuse to hang out with him regularly. One more thing worth mentioning; He is super low key during the wedding. He and his assistant blended in perfectly to the wedding, almost like they where guests. This made all the difference to us, we didn't want to feel like we where being chased by photographers all day. We are so pleased with our experience and can't recommend him enough.

Ugh, wedding photos right? We looked tirelessly for months at image after image of brides, grooms, cakes, dogs with bowties, children with bowties and flowers. So much so that it all started to blend together. I think both me and my husband were at our breaking point. Then we randomly ran across Paul on instagram and both fell in love with his imagery. There is just something different about it. Like you can actually feel something when you look at it. Needless to say we hired him. He was super fun on our wedding day, very in control while still being laid back. When we got our images back I was completely over the moon. They were everything we were hoping. Paul really came through for us and we cant thank or recommend him enough.

Paul Von Rieter is our hero! Seriously! I know I am not the only bride to be nervous about having her pictures taken all day on her wedding day... but I feel like I was the worst. Paul was totally awesome at making us feel relaxed and made us remember to have fun. We really love the images we got from the dance part of the reception. He really gets into the mix of things and gets all of the fun action and blackmail material. haha.
We are so in love with our pictures and cant wait to start a family so he can take our family photos every year!

Paul took family photos of me, my husband, and 18 month old son. Paul was AMAZING with my family. He made us feel relaxed and was extremely understanding and flexible when it came to my busy busy boy. Paul was also understanding of my and my husband's own preferences and concerns. He spent three hours with us at two beautiful locations that he chose. To top off the experience, our pictures are BEAUTIFUL! I am amazed he was able to capture so many adorable moments, especially because they only lasted a split second with my son. I adore our pictures and can't wait for another family session with Paul next year.

Paul was the perfect choice for us to create memories of my daughters wedding. He spent most of the day capturing the mood and the beauty of her day. We got married in California and live in Chicago so we had to plan and pick all our vendors via phone. We really liked Paul's portfolio but since we had not met him in person we were not sure what to expect. When we met Paul we felt so comfortable with him right away-- you can really see that translate into the pictures. If your looking for an awesome photographer who is really laid back when shooting I highly recommend Paul! If his work doesn't blow you away I would be shocked ;)

We took a lot of care in selecting a photographer. It was very important to us that we didn't end up with run of the mill images that were "cheesy and posed". After spending probably more time than necessary on wedding blogs we ran across Paul's work (more like stumbled across mountains of it, the guy is everywhere. lol.) I can't explain how happy I am that we hired him. I am still oogling the images from our engagement session and he was awesome on our wedding day. He easily worked the hardest out of any of our vendors. I will say he tends to be a bit hard to get a hold of, but he warned us about that. Apparently he travels a lot. But it was never an issue. We are so happy with our wedding pictures. He is really good at getting all of those "candid" moments. Something that was very important for us to have. I would highly recommend him to any bride that doesn't like to have pictures taken of herself. Cause that would be me and Paul totally put both my fiance and me at ease. Hire him!

I found Paul after reading way to many wedding blogs and obsessing over finding an engagement photographer. Not only was he the most responsive photographer I looked into, his blog showed some amazing work. I looked at all of his photos, engagement and wedding, even though I was hiring him for engagement. I was in love with all of it. When I spoke with Paul on the phone, he gave me an idea of his style, what to wear, basically made me comfortable for our pictures. We had never done anything like this before, but after going through hundreds of wedding blogs and pintrest, I knew what kind of pictures I wanted. Paul took us to some beautiful places for our pictures, he spent several hours with us, and additionally, we met back up with him for more pictures because a few pictures weren't up to his standard. Paul has a very unique style taking pictures on old school film. Most wedding photographers don't use this, but it creates the most beautiful soft pictures. Our engagement pictures are seriously magazine worthy. We used the pictures to create our save the date, and people though we were sending a professional advertisement! Since we got married in Florida, we went with a local Florida photographer. I wish we had hired Paul for our wedding. Even though we wanted someone who knew the area, it wouldn't have mattered with Paul because his photos and style are that good. He somehow makes every background, no matter where your wedding takes place, look spectacular, and it seriously seems like every person his photographs is a model. I joked with him when i first saw his work, that all of the couples he photographs are so beautiful, but honestly it’s his style. He makes everyone look this way! I have been recommended Paul to everyone I know in California, but he is worth hiring for a destination wedding as well. I looked over the reviews from other customers, and saw some timing issues. My engagement photos did not take very long to get, granted it seemed long in my head because i was so excited to see them, in reality, maybe two weeks. The photos have to be developed by a lab, so i understand the time frame. For a wedding, there are thousands of photos, that all need to be developed, than need to be sifted through because no all the shots develop. To put this in perspective, my wedding photograph (Not Paul) took four months to give me my photos. We had three photographers all taking photos on digital cameras. My photos came to me not edited, and my photographer has stated that edits such adding color to someone’s face would be charged extra. I would rather have waited six months for awesome pictures that were taken with film, than four months for photos that could have been uploaded to the computer the day after the wedding! Especially, since all of your photos are going to be fantastic with Paul.

Overall, if I could do it over, I would have hired Paul because I know he produces awesome quality photos, is easy to work with, and is passionate enough to care about each photo.

Simply put, Paul takes stunning photos, and you cannot go wrong choosing him as your wedding photographer. He delivers on all fronts and is 'the best' at what he does. Paul captured every bit of our day(s) in Napa, including pre-wedding "engagement" shots, bridal photos, night-before dinner, and of course, the wedding day. We have 700+ photos total, and there are SO many that we love. The hard part has been choosing which ones to frame! They are all fantastic.
In addition to how great his photography is, a couple more things I wanted to add about Paul.... One, when we had to make some changes to our overall wedding plans (day, location, etc.) due to a family illness, he was flexible and able to make our changes work with his schedule, etc. This meant much less stress for us! Second, he has a wonderful ability to put people at ease, make them feel comfortable and bring out the best in people in general. This is a plus for having fun and getting great photos! It's like having an old friend join you on your wedding day rather than paparazzi :) Lastly, we didn't do bridesmaids or groomsmen, so before my best friend and family showed up on the wedding day, I would probably have been a nervous mess if Paul hadn't been there first thing to take photos and be my stand-in bridesmaid for a while. Now that is dedication!! He means what he says about the "I'll be there from start to finish" thing :)
All that said... Paul will at the very least deliver stellar photos of your big day, but I think you'll find he's a lot more than just a wedding photographer and is a valuable addition to your entire day.

My husband and I are thrilled with our experience with PVR! Even though it's been a few years since our wedding, I am constantly asked about who shot our amazing photos, which look like they belong in a magazine. I was nervous for our engagement shoot, because my husband, (although a handsome guy), is notorious for blinking or freezing up around cameras. Paul's demeanor and sense of humor instantly puts you at ease. You'll find yourself cracking jokes and forgetting the cameras are even there. Now that I'm back in wedding scene planning my Bestie's wedding, I realized how valuable this whole experience was. It didn't take much persuading for her to use Paul (his work speaks for it self). He flew up to Seattle to shoot their engagement pics, and they are breathtaking. He is a beautiful storyteller. I HIGHLY recommend PVR to everyone looking stunning, professional work.

I could not ask for a better experience, our wedding day was amazing and Paul definitely contributed to that. He was on time and very professional, he worked all day for us to make sure he captured every moment. I appreciate his positive attitude and sense of humor it really helped in keeping everyone loose and comfortable in front of the camera. All of my sneak peaks are AMAZING so far and I cannot wait to see more. Based on his previous work I know I have a lot to look forward to. I would definitely recommend Paul and plan to use his services for events in the future.

I don't even need to write a review for Paul because his photography does the talking.

His work is incredible, and so is he. Paul is the most likeable and wonderful person, making both our Engagement Photo Session and Wedding Day that much more fun and enjoyable. Paul is honestly an artist, while still being able to capture the natural and standard poses that brides and grooms want. He makes you feel comfortable and captures every moment like a piece of art. My husband, mother, aunts, friends, sister all loved him--and trust me, THAT MEANS A LOT. (ie: many different personalities to please... but Paul did just that!)

YOU NEED TO HIRE HIM! (if you can get him... he is becoming famous as we speak).

Best Photographer EVER! I seriously think these guy is the next big thing! I am convinced that in 2 years I will be able to look back and brag to people that I had Paul Von Rieter photograph my wedding!!! My Husband I were so impressed with the out come of our photos he asked him to do a day after shoot with us. I can't wait to see the finished product! He also does beautiful album design. We love ours, and we got it pretty darn quick. Great Photographer, Great personality and good with the guests!

Von Rieter Photographica is highly recommended by our family. You get a great session, he's professional, and just makes you feel relaxed. Best part about it he can make you feel like you have known him for years! I personally think that's important because laughing and being relaxed can been seen in pictures and makes them more fun to look at. Besides that, he get's his editing done quickly and his prices are great for someone as talented as him! If you're looking for a photographer we highly recommend Paul. We will be using him again as our family grows.

Paul was a referral from a friend who had used him for their wedding and was blow away with the results. I have got to say, I was too! We got the package that came with an engagement session and two shooters on our wedding day.
Our engagement session was great fun! we did it in downtown laguna beach early in the morning. Paul really took the time to listen to what we wanted and then added his own touch.
His work at our wedding was simply amazing. I spent a lot of time on the little details and Paul and his assistant did an amazing job capturing all of them. Paul was wonderful with great with the whole bridal party and went the extra mile to get to know everyone. He said it was so he could better capture everyone's unique personality.
All in all I would use him again if I had to! If you are looking for a photographer to really go above and beyond your expectations then this is your guy!

I had a hard time deciding on a photographer. I must have interviewed over ten, but in the end Paul won both me and my husband over! He was so interested in us and how we wanted our day to be remembered that we knew he was the photographer for us. We also saw some of the work he has done with children and since all of my little cousins were going to be in the wedding we needed someone there that could capture them just right. (If you have kids that you want good photos of then Paul is the guy to go with, great with kids.)
He is very professional and personable. He and his team were very good at getting everyone to feel comfortable with having a camera pointed at them all day. I really feel like Paul went above and beyond to get some very creative shots. He was able to capture my mother right on the verge of tearing up. I will cherish that photo forever.
His pricing was reasonable for what we needed and he even threw in a coffee table book as a surprise!
I highly recommend him!

When I came across one of Paul's pictures on Pinterest I knew instantly that I wanted him to photograph my wedding. Within the first 10 minutes of meeting Paul I felt like we had been friends forever. He is very easy to talk to and he knows what he is doing. He makes you laugh ( a lot ) and feel comfortable in front of the camera. He did such an amazing job and I am obsessed with every single picture we received. I'm not exaggerating either, there is not one picture that I don't like.

We hired Paul to photograph our wedding weekend in the Fall of 2014. This included paying him to come a night early to shoot our Halloween reception party on Friday and the actual wedding on Saturday. His professionalism on the weekend of the wedding was solid (he worked hard and seemed to capture great shots). However, his follow-through after the wedding was incredibly disappointing and less than professional. We received a portion of our edited Saturday wedding pictures, but it was obvious that it was not a representative set of the event. Furthermore, we never received a single Friday night photo nor the unedited photos that we were promised, per our agreement. When we reached out to him numerous times, our emails and phone calls went unanswered and no explanation was ever given.

We have no idea what caused his lack of follow-through and will likely never know. What we do know is that we paid him for services that he did not complete and, therefore, we cannot recommend him unless you want the potential drama of not having a full set of photos for one of the biggest events of your life.

I strongly urge you to avoid hiring Paul Von Rieter at all costs.

My husband and I were married at the beginning of August 2015. Over 6 months later, we have only received 2 images from Paul.

Immediately following our wedding, we received 2 images via text message from Paul. Months passed as we patiently waited for our digital photographs, despite family and friends telling us that it was unusual how long it was taking for them to be delivered. We reached out to Paul in mid-November to check-in. Nearly a month later, in early December 2015 (5 months after the wedding), Paul finally responded, claiming he was sending us our gallery that very day. We waited, but nothing came. My husband and I each emailed Paul to let him know that we hadn't received the link to the gallery. Paul never responded to our emails.

We've sent him several follow-up emails since, and he has been completely unresponsive. Meanwhile, he is actively posting on his Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages. We were also shocked and dismayed to read a review on WeddingWire from a couple who got married ~3 months *after* us who has already received their photos from Paul.

I can understand why anyone would be tempted to hire Paul. The photographs on his website, Instagram, etc. are beautiful. He comes across as extremely personable and charismatic. These are among the reasons why we selected to hire him from dozens of available wedding photographers. However, given our experience, I simply cannot recommend Paul Von Rieter to anyone. He has demonstrated himself to be unreliable, and unprofessional.

I wish we had dug a little deeper when doing our research on Paul. He currently has an "F" rating on the Better Business Bureau's website, and has multiple complaints filed against him on the Business Consumer Alliance website.

With so many talented photographers out there, do yourselves a favor and keep looking.
