My family has been buying cakes from Once in a Blue Moon Bakery for big events – first communion, milestone birthdays, graduation – since the early 2000s. So it was no question that I would ask them to provide dessert for our wedding! We had delicious cupcakes and a cutting cake, as well as several brownie/bar trays. They were accommodating with vegan and gluten free options, too. We love Blue Moon forever.

Oh my goodness, Once in a Blue Moon provided us the best wedding cake ever!! The cake turned out so beautifully, my husband and I couldn't stop talking about the cake the day after our wedding! They got all the details we wanted perfectly, even modeling our two cats as our cake toppers! Not only was it beautiful, but it was DELICIOUS! We got our wedding cake from Once in A Blue Moon Bakery and it was SO GOOD. I loved their take-home cake testing! You can do it on your own time and all the flavors were amazing. We went with chocolate cake and raspberry filling. The meeting to set up the cake was super easy. They had pictures of different styles they do. Very accommodating and professional. Highly recommend!

Tasty Cake!
Once in a Blue Moon was such an easy bakery to work with and the cake was SO TASTY on wedding night and looked beautiful. We also decided to freeze the top layer and it froze so well - I dug into it yesterday as we just got back from our honeymoon and it is still delicious. I will continue to buy cakes from the bakery and would definitely recommend it to anyone for their wedding.

Excellent result with difficult order!
At our 12 person wedding we had a gluten allergy, tree nut allergy and a vegan.
We worked with Blue Moon to ensure everyone would be happy - which we all were! The cake, two layers - chocolate raspberry mousse on top then lemon mousse on the bottom layer really, really hit the spot!
A couple vegan cupcakes and everyone got their sugar fix during the reception.
The bakery was easy to work with, made several helpful suggestions and everything was ready right on time.

The cake was delicious and beautiful, everyone was extremely easy to work with, and you get a free cake on your anniversary! Amazing Cupcakes and Wedding Cake
Once In a Blue Moon made the wedding cake and cupcakes for our wedding this past weekend and it was incredible. We got so many compliments on the cake and desserts. Delivery was very flexible and they were happy to work with our coordinator on times. The cake itself was gorgeous. We really could not have asked for anything better. The best wedding cake
Absolutely delicious, hands down the best wedding cake I've ever had! Once in A Blue Moon was extremely easy to work with - the tasting was fantastic, they made it hard to narrow down to just a few flavors. For the design, we loved one of the cakes they had done in the past and just had a small tweak, and they nailed it. They also decorated the cake with fresh flowers from our florist which was a beautiful touch. All in all, we had a wonderful experience with them and would highly recommend!

We had a great experience getting our wedding cake here! My mom and I went in for a complimentary consultation which was very informative, and got to custom design the cake. It tasted delicious and as expected and was decorated exactly how we wanted it, even though we requested a custom flavor. Planning a wedding from a distance is a little bit nerve-wracking, but after speaking with Once in a Blue Moon we knew we had found the bakery for us. Although we couldn’t do a tasting, we spoke with the owner who helped us decide on flavors, size, and style. The pricing was also very transparent and exactly what they said it would be, which I appreciated. I communicated to them what I imagined for the cake and sent a few pictures and they did the rest! The cake arrived on our wedding day on time and was even more beautiful than I imagined! They did an incredible job and it was delicious too! We had plenty of cake and so a lot of people got seconds and said how much they liked it. It was a wonderful part of our wedding day!

Once in a blue moon bakery was great!! We had a three tier wedding cake, and each layer was delicious. The sampler we got from them was great and let us try each kind of cake, filling, and icing. We did one layer of carrot cake, one layer of vanilla with raspberry filling, and another layer of chocolate with chocolate raspberry filling. The cake was beautiful and delicious! We are big dessert people, so finding a cake that tasted great was our main priority. Highly recommend once in a blue moon for your wedding cake!

Once in a Blue Moon has been my favorite bakery for over 20 years and I knew I wanted them to create our wedding cake. They created a sample box for us to try all the cake, icing, and filling options at home (due to COVID) and set up a video call for us to go over our thoughts and plan the cake! We requested a Carolina blue three tier cake with white piping with no other requests. They were so excited for artistic freedom and they 1000% executed. The cake was absolutely gorgeous and tasted delicious! We can’t wait for our one year anniversary!!

This bakery is AMAZING! The cakes are delicious, and our cake was absolutely beautiful. They walked us through options and even let us do our tasting from the safety of home complete with a detailed list of flavors and choices! I was a little nervous about my vision coming to life as I wasn’t able to come in person, but I was amazed at how great the cake looked. It was exactly what I wanted and prices are great! Everything about our experience with Once in a Blue Moon bakery was fabulous. We were looking for a gluten free wedding cake that wouldn't break our budget. Once in a Blue Moon was very reasonable and the cake was so delicious no one even knew it was gluten free (unless they needed to know!). They only have one flavor for the gluten free cake, but there were plenty of different options for the mousse and frosting for us to still have some excitement with the cake. At the end of the day we just chose a white cake and a floral arrangement on top, but it was stunning.

Everyone at the bakery is super nice and they make sure you get the cake you want. The cake is super customizable with a ton of different cake and icing flavors, there is even an option to take the tasting to go so you can do it in privacy for a small fee. Loved working them for my wedding!

Better then all my dreams
My husband and I we’re married in January of this past year, and starting our wedding planning process I didn’t put much value in our cake. UNTIL I went to Once In a Blue Moon. Our experience with Blue Moon was a GAME CHANGER! For starters, the owner was the one who led our cake tasting and facilitated our entire experience. The whole process felt so personal. Sometimes when you work with a smaller mom/pop shop you’ll a lack of professionalism or timeliness but great service but NOT here. The professionalism was second to none from all our vendors and their responsiveness was impressive.
This is all without mentioning the cake! How good the cake was is STILL the most talked about thing among my family and it’s been 6 months.
We also has unique gluten allergy needs that Blue Moon accommodated. If you are looking for a gluten free cake of any kind, this is your place! When my husband and I went cake tasting here, neither of us could tell the difference between a gluten and gluten free cake.
Pricing wise I would say is more than fair. When we met to design our wedding cake my dream cake was outside the budget that we had set. I was really bummed because I had a vision for a wedding cake and didn’t see how that vision could come true. Between the design team and I we decided to come in again and figure something out. To my great surprise, the owner/designer help me narrow down the crucial pieces that made my dream cake perfect. As I described to her my vision she threw out a cake that was within our budget with the room to add some fun detailing. I decided to trust that team and leave it to the experts. On our WEDDING DAY, our photographer had snuck into our venue before hand and snapped a picture of our wedding cake. The results...unbelievable. The cake that was delivered and created for our wedding day blew every childhood dream OUT OF THE WATER. I could NOT begin to think up a more PERFECT cake!!
Once in a Blue Moon Bakery was the SIMPLEST and most stress-FREE part of our ENTIRE wedding process! Thank you guys so much for making my husband and I feel like the most important and special people.
Side note: We ordered a 3 tier vanilla cake with white butter cream frosting. Each tier has had 3 fillings, homemade chocolate ganache, homemade raspberry ganache (With real raspberry’s), and finally homemade chocolate and raspberry ganache combined. We provided a gluten free option with the same flavors but used sheet cake. Our cake fed 135 people with the perfect amount left over.
Blue Moon, we will be using you for decades of anniversaries, and all our special birthdays! Thank you!

We got our wedding cake through Once In A Blue Moon Bakery & Cafe, and we have nothing but praise!
First, the cake was absolutely amazing. We had a yellow cake with raspberry mousse and cream cheese frosting. This was a phenomenal cake! It was hard to stop eating!
Second, they were super easy to work with. I have a few unusual allergies, and they were able to easily work around them. They were able to get us in for a tasting in relatively short time. They delivered to our venue with absolutely no issue.
Third, they worked around our needs. We had an idea for what we wanted our wedding cake to look and taste like. We kept encountering bakeries that either had minimums above our actual needs or they had their own ideas for what a wedding cake should be. Once In A Blue Moon Bakery & Cafe made us feel important, heard, and appreciated!
Fourth, they have a service where we can get a small version of our cake made for our one-year anniversary so we don’t have to freeze a slice of our cake. Instead, we get a fresh cake that we already know is amazing!
Although we don’t have another wedding to order a cake, we will definitely be visiting the bakery and cafe in the near future. :)

The tasting was perfect for me and my husband to try all the flavors- and it was free. We ended up ordering it that same day during our first cake tasting. The cake is so good and they have so many different fillings and icings. Once we ordered and paid for it, we didn't have to worry about anything else. I met Lily at Blue Moon to create my wedding cake design. Lily is very personable and great to work with. I showed her a couple of pinterest pictures of cakes I loved and she created a beautiful cake and it was delicious! She made sure to customize the cake how I wanted. My husband couldn't come with me to our cake tasting, so he tasted it for the first time when I shoved it into his face at the reception. His response: "That is some damn good cake!" I had half a dozen guests come up to me and say that they don't like cake, but our wedding cake was delicious. Our cake was a yellow cake with mandarin orange mousse and vanilla buttercream frosting. It tasted great and looked just perfect. Highly recommend!

I'm getting hungry just writing this review. We did cupcakes and a cutting cake for our wedding with these guys, and they were amazing. We got tons of compliments from people; just delicious, and guests loved having different flavors to choose from.
Beyond that, as a vendor, they were great to work with! We got to do a full complimentary tasting, which was a blast. And their prices just can't be beat. I did a good amount of research on the cake front, and these guys were the best value of any bakery I found! And probably taste better than them all, too. Not even a contest; Blue Moon FTW.

They made our groomscake and our wedding cake. Both turned out better than I could have anticipated. They were so flexible and added a little touch for me of a picture of my pet on the back that made the wedding cake even better! Our guests loved it and the groomscake looked so good- in buttercream! I can't believe the skill and how smooth it was. I thought they had delivered fondant at first because it was so perfect.
The flavors were all perfect since you can do one each tier and our guests ate so much that they had to go cut more from the back (twice!). The red velvet groomscake was divine. We did a tier of yellow cake and strawberry, a tier of chocolate and raspberry, and one of white and lemon. The whole cake was almond buttercream and it was so light.
I love that they give you a free little cake on your 1 year so you don't have to freeze a tier. Thank goodness they do since our guests ate a lot of cake!

Cake tasting for our wedding went smoothly. The woman helping us showed us a book of cake designs they had done in the past, but we went with a design I had found on pinterest. We also had our florist drop off greenery for the cake the day before and they were able to add it on top. Tasting was all their cake, filling, and frosting flavors on a tray so you could mix and match which we found very helpful. We did not do delivery but I heard of no problems with pick up from our friends who did pick the cake up. Cake was still moist and delicious 3 days later, even after sitting in the fridge.

We had a two tier cake, a couple sheet cakes, and a gluten free cake for our guests. It was by far the best value we could find for our amount of guests! It's also my favorite bakery, so while I'm biased, we got plenty of compliments on our cake and how delicious it was! We had multiple flavors too, including an amazing carrot cake tier which is what we cut into. It was decorated beautifully, and they were able to put it on a smaller cake board than they normally do to fit our cake stand. They were great to work with and I was so happy to have them make our wedding cake!

Once in A Blue Moon came recommended to us by multiple friends before we decided to use them for our non-traditional wedding cakes and we are so glad we did. The cakes themselves were delicious (top priority) and beautiful (added bonus)! Their bakery team worked with my husband and me to pick flavors and design styles that would complement our eclectic and varied tastes and the end product was absolutely gorgeous.
Also, given the extremely high quality of their work, we were blown away by how affordable their options were. We opted to do 3 beautiful display cakes, roughly 10 inches each, and 4 sheet cakes that would be sliced in the kitchen for serving and not only did this make for a visually stunning cake table, we had a ton of cake leftover to enjoy later. With this arrangement, we spent less than a third of what we were quoted at other bakeries for a traditional stacked wedding cake and I have never heard so much positive feedback about cake at a wedding. All in all, we couldn't have been happier with our experience with Once in a Blue Moon and continue to use them for all the major events in our lives. Now, if only someone had reminded us to practice feeding each other cake before the big day, we probably wouldn't have looked like such doofuses doing it at the reception but you live and learn.

Fred was our consultant and was very helpful when we (bride, groom and bride's parents) went for the cake tasting. The Bride wanted a simple, yet elegant cake with cream cheese frosting and one or two fillings. He showed us sample cakes from a photo album and, also, gave a tasting of each icing and filling. We were very satisifed with the final look of the cake which blended perfectly into the theme of the wedding. They even worked with me when I changed cake stands at the last minute from gold to silver!

My family and I have used Once in A Blue Moon Bakery for many years for birthday cakes, graduation cakes, special event cakes, etc. I knew we wanted to hire Once in A Blue Moon Bakery to make our wedding cake. They consulted with me regarding style and size and the representatives were very knowledgeable. They have 2 large portfolios with photos of wedding cakes they've baked. They allowed me to use multiple flavors and the cake was just beautiful. I can't recommend Once in A Blue Moon Bakery enough to any Brides and/or Grooms looking for a great bakery in the RDU area.

We just loved our wedding cake! And this bakery was very easy to work with. For the tasting, they brought us out a platter that had three chunks of cake (chocolate, white and yellow) along with three blobs of icing (buttercream, creamcheese and almond) and a whole bunch of mousse flavors as possible fillings. Then you could make whatever combination you wanted on your fork and taste tons of possibilities!
We wanted the traditional cake but couldn't afford a very large one, so we ordered from them a small two-layer wedding cake and a simple sheet cake which the caterer would cut up in the kitchen but wouldn't be seen by the guests.
For our flavors we chose: White cake with strawberry filling and almond icing (my favorite!) as the top layer, Yellow cake with orange filling and buttercream icing (my husband's favorite!) as the bottom layer and white cake with chocolate filling and buttercream icing for the sheet cake (for less adventurous people like my father, haha).
When it came to the design they let us flip through their book of samples, which was just full of beautiful cakes they had made. They also sat with us as we flipped through a pinterest board we had made of designs we liked. We ended up settling on a very simple design: Square cakes with smooth sides and a "ribbon" of icing around the bottom of each layer. I used fake flowers for my bouquet and ordered them way in advance, so I was able to leave a few with the bakery and they put them on my cake. The final result was beautiful and delicious!

We had a wonderful experience with Once In A Blue Moon. They allowed us to taste on two separate occasions, and worked with me when I explained I wanted multiple, small, and simply decorated cakes rather than one large tiered cake. Our guests loved the cakes we chose (Red Velvet, Chocolate Encounter, Margarita and Peanut Butter Mousse especially) and raved about how delicious they were. I myself am lactose intolerant, which was accommodated by ordering a small 6" inch cake for my husband and myself (he is not lactose intolerant but said that vegan chocolate cake was one of the best he'd ever had). Not many bakeries in the area offered a great-tasting vegan option but we found it here. Their prices were way better than many of the other places I looked at. Especially if you consider yourself a low maintenance bride, this is your bakery - you will not be disappointed!

The staff is very friendly and passionate about creating the wedding cake of your dreams or you can look through a catalog of previous made cakes for ideas. Cake tasting was our favorite part of the "creating" process (aside from seeing the cake in its final product form). We had so much fun deciding the right combination (size and number of layers, smooth moose fillers, colors, and decorations). Price is on average point or better than other cake shops. John and I had decided we did not want to save the top cake to freeze to eat on our year anniversary. At Once in a Blue Moon, if you take back your receipt after your first year, they will give you a mini cake to celebrate your anniversary. WIN! WIN! :)

Our Wedding Cake and The Groom's Cake were perfect and very delicious!!! We were especially impressed with the decoration of the Groom's Cake with the Marine Corps Emblem. We set out to start our cake tasting journey at Once in a Blue Moon Cafe. We strolled in on Saturday morning with an agenda to try some cake and set up an official cake tasting appointment. While sitting at a small table that morning sampling some of their cake-by-the-slice options, we had the pleasure of striking up a conversation with a woman that had stopped in to pick up a cake order. She began to tell us she was from NJ and had never had a cake as fantastic as the ones that she gets from Once in a Blue Moon and that she has to order something from them on a regular bases. We had to agree, we tried the Key Lime and Cappuccino Blast that morning and even after being sliced and refrigerated they were amazing. We set up the tasting appt but made no effort to seek out any other bakeries. We went with a non-traditional plan of doing several 10 in round cakes on different cake stands rather than doing a traditional wedding cake - our guest loved this as we had 4 different flavors of cakes to choose from. We did the Lemon Star, Orange Orbiter, Far Out Frangelico and Cosmic Coconut - but had them all iced on the outside with white butter-cream to make them look more uniform as we had them decorated with flowers. They also did the grooms cake for us which was decorated as the backdrop for MST3K, the did a great job off of the pic we sent them! The cakes were beyond amazing, beautiful and tasty - though we didn't get to taste the Frangelico one, it must have been amazing because it was the first to be devoured by guests. We can't wait to go back and get our favorite for all the anniversaries to come - the Lemon Star!!

For my wedding, I didn't want wedding cake. I just wanted cake. Awesome tasting, good looking cake. I did not care for a lot of the cake I tried at various places, including my venue, but Once in a Blue Moon came recommended by a friend.

I opted for two 8" cakes and one 10" cake for display and then 2 sheet cakes in the back (so total 5), each in a different flavor with differing decorations, but all very simple... all 3 layers (we saved a small amount of money by having 3 instead of 4 layers, because... who cares!) and all were fresh and exceedingly delicious. The cake table looked great and we had many compliments on how good the cake was.

My wedding cake was literally the best wedding cake I've ever tasted in my life. And wedding cake is kind of my thing. The staff was great, and they even let us do two tastings. While all of the flavor combos were delicious, we settled on white cake with chocolate mousse and cream cheese frosting. To die for. Thank goodness we ended up with the entire bottom layer left over, because I want to eat that cake every day for the rest of my life. We wanted a very simple cake, and Once In a Blue Moon came through in that aspect as well. It turned out just how we wanted.

The most moist, delicious cake I've ever had at a wedding! We worked with the baker and the owner to ensure that my daughter's wedding cake would be exactly as she wanted, and we were not disappointed. This vendor is top notch. You need not worry about the delivery of the cake or whether it will be as requested. They have hundreds of pictures of cakes they have baked and decorated in case you need ideas. And, their cake tasting was one of the most fun things my daughter and I did as we planned the wedding. Hightly recommend Blue Moon!

We were trying to stick to a specific budget and most cake places in the area were way out of our price range or had specific minimums that we had to meet to even order a cake. Nancy at Blue Moon was willing to work with us to figure out the best cake for our budget. I gave Blue Moon an inspiration picture of my cake and they couldn’t have made it more like the picture I gave them! Added bonus-they will make you a small 6” cake for your year anniversary so that you don’t need to eat old frozen cake to celebrate. I will definitely be ordering from them when I need cakes in the future.

We worked with Nancy at Once in a Blue Moon. She was fantastic to work with for the tasting/selection. She gave suggestions for small design details I hadn't considered. Their cakes are delicious and beautiful! The finished product was exactly as I envisioned and it tasted as good as it looked. I highly recommend this bakery for any special event cakes.

Coming from NJ to NC for our wedding was a huge feat. We went down in April for our consultation and taste testing. The cake was phenomenal! Our wedding was on October 22, 2011 and our cake was everything we hoped it would be. The staff at the bakery put us at ease about everything going smoothly on our wedding day. Our guests could not rave enough about how delicious this cake was! Yellow cake with lemon mousse filling and almond buttercream for one layer, chocolate cake (my fav!) with chocolate mousse filling and almond buttercream for the second layer and a yellow cake with almond buttercream for the top. Thank you Nancy and all the staff at Blue Moon for making our wedding cake the best cake we have ever had!

The cakes from Blue Moon Bakery taste great. We went for a consultation in August, and they spent a lot of time with us, letting us try out all of the flavors. They made a wonderful, and bigger than we expected, groom's cake that coordinated very nicely with our wedding cake. It arrived on time, and it was delicious!

Awesome place to go. They made a cake like the photo I had from a magazine. Baker was a great guy to work with. I would highly recommend this wedding cake bakery to everyone. The cake was delicious and everyone loved it. The best part is we did not have to save our top piece because the bakery gives you a free top cake on your 1 year anniversary! The pricing is fair and good for those on a budget.

I planned a very low budget wedding, but I wanted my cake to be fabulous. Once in a Blue Moon Bakery made my cakes for me, and they allowed me to change the coloring and frosting on their specialty cakes to fit my wedding colors. Our guests raved about how delicious the cake was!

Gorgeous cake! It tasted wonderful too. We got the hazelnut mouse and almond buttercream frosting. Yummy! I'm just bummed that I got more ON my face than in my mouth. :-) They even give you a cake on your first anniversary so you don't have to freeze any.

Our cake was not only amazing but we also got so many compliments on how it was the best cake anyone has ever tasted! Blue Moon sits down with you and allows you to taste all sorts of combinations of icings, fillings, and cakes (which is the best part in my opinion!!). They are extremely easy to work with and flexible if you change your mind with filling cominations, etc.

The best cake ever
Blue Moon made the best cake we could have asked for. We sat down at the tasting and went over what we wanted and what flavors we liked. Lilly helped us put together a cupcake and cake combination perfect for our original guest list. When we changed our plans at the last minute Blue Moon was very flexible and accommodating. Our cake looked beautiful and tasted wonderful on our wedding day!

Our goal for a chosen wedding cake was not only a scrumpious cake but an excellent experience to experience and to write home about. We desired a cake that was a reflection of our love for each other and shared experience for our guest. In our minds, our cake was our time to shine and be intimate with food. Arrving at Once in a Blue Moon Cafe, I felt, I had arrived at an awesome and authenticate cafe in italy. It was great! The flavor offerings were incredible and the carrot cake sealed the deal. We used Once in a Blue Moon for our rehearsal dinner cake. We ordered the Razzmatazz (which we had tried previously) and savored every bite. The cake deserves 5/5 stars. We had requested personalization on the cake and the groom's name was spelled wrong, which was easily corrected, but is the only reason that this review is 4.8/5 rather than 5/5.

We had a fantastic experience with Blue Moon. I had one of their cakes at an office party and remembered how great it was. I wasn't sure that they did wedding cakes, but called anyway.
