Nilka was our photographer for our wedding and the entire experience was PERFECT. She is very professional, knowledgeable and experienced. The photos came out absolutely stunning. We sent her a plan for all of the photos we wanted and she delivered above and beyond on everything. She was amazing at coordinating and keeping us on track, and also provided so much direction, which we appreciated greatly and made us feel so comfortable. So much of our wedding party said she was the best photographer they’ve had for a wedding. She also got our photos over to us quickly which we also appreciated. I highly highly recommend her for your event!!

You would be silly to not book with Nilka, our photos are stunning!
There are no words for how beautiful our wedding photos turned out! Me and my husband are a gay couple from the mainland US, and we worked with Nilka to photograph our wedding at Hacidena Campo Rico outside of San Juan, PR. I had found Nilka from looking through so many wedding websites of photographers in PR, and I could tell she had a great eye. Working with Nilka was so amazing: we had a few conversations up front over Zoom to talk through the wedding, staging, and how we would take pictures so she knew what to expect. We were very adamant that we wanted to attend our cocktail hour and front load our photos with family and designated friends ahead of the ceremony. Nilka scheduled it out PERFECTLY! She was a great director and walked us through the photos. She made us feel so comfortable and relaxed, and knew how to set a perfect atmosphere to capture our true selves on our wedding day. The time flew with her, we couldn't believe it was already time for family to show up! She was incredibly efficient and professional with the family portraits despite our side being disorganized. She always stayed calm and cool, which was appreciated. We just got our photos back about 2 weeks later and oh wow... all of the emotions of the day of came flooding back to us. She did an unbelievable job capturing us, the ceremony, the speeches, the cocktail hour, the reception, the decor, our family and other portraits. These photos are works of art. We feel so lucky to have such gorgeous photos to be able to memorialize our wedding with - she truly elevated the day! She truly has an eye for capturing the right moments. We will always cherish these photos, and we are beyond grateful to have found her and gotten the chance to work with her. Also, Nilka is simply just a genuinely kind person. She is friendly and funny, someone who you would want to grab a beer with. Anyone would be lucky to be able to book her for their wedding. Thank you, Nilka!

The best decision!
Hiring Nilka was the best decision for our Puerto Rico elopement!!!! She was so fun to work with, everything was go with the flow. There was a rain storm coming in and it was so kind of her to coordinate with our officiant and recommend a location change to keep things simple because I told her my priority was low stress. We were able to stay present and in the moment of our wedding rather than worry about logistics. It was natural, we never felt rushed or forced poses. And of course the photos are absolutely stunning!!!!! They look like they are straight out of a magazine and we cried while flipping thru them 🥹 Thank you for everything Nilka you are a gem! Highly recommend!

The Best Photographer in PR!
Nilka is really the best! She is such a down to earth person and is so talented in her photography. Communication with her was extremely easy, she is very organized in getting you set up and even prior to wedding she will have every detail down you want to make sure is captured for your big day! We did a photo session with her prior to the wedding as it was part of the package we chose and I highly recommend so you can get a taste on how talented she is and how genuine and kind she is! Loved Our Experience with Nilka!
Choosing Nilka Gissell as our wedding photographer was easily one of our best decisions! From our first conversation and consultation, Nilka’s warmth and professionalism made it easy to connect it with her and a no brainer that she was the wedding photographer for us! She made our engagement shoot in Viejo San Juan incredibly fun and had us feeling natural in front of the camera. It was a bonus to be able to meet with her in-person before our wedding day for our engagement shoot in Puerto Rico as we live in Santa Monica and would not be be back in Puerto Rico until our wedding later that year.

Beautifully captured our wedding day!
Nilka was a dream to work with on our destination wedding in Old San Juan. From the very beginning Nilka was responsive, organized and very knowledgeable. During our first phone consultation Nilka even recommended the vendors we would go on to book for our flowers, coordinator and ceremony music. On actual wedding day Nilka was a calm and confident presence from the first moment she arrived. She was encouraging, genuine and flexible throughout the entire day and made wrangling our large extended family for pre-ceremony photos look easy! The best part of working with Nilka was of course the gorgeous photos and short 2 minute video that she captured of our big day. Nilka was amazing! She was very responsive and easy to communicate since the very first call. On the day of the wedding, we got the pictures we wanted and more, and they all look really beautiful. We were nervous at the beginning because we were not able to do the trial and i'm very introverted and both of us are very camera shy but she made us feel really comfortable since the moment her and the second shooter arrived. She also made all the family feel included even with the spanish/english language barrier. We're extremely happy with how all the pictures turned out and would definitely encourage anyone to hire her for their wedding day!! ❤️

Nilka was seriously ahhmazing! I cannot stress enough how incredibly nervous I was about the proposal. Thank goodness for Nilka!!! She helped me plan the entire thing, helped with hiding the ring, and WOW did the photos turn out amazing!! We came right after a tropical storm and had flood warnings the day of, despite that she still managed to make everything work and kept me very informed and reassured. We had never done any professional photography before and Nilka helped us feel very natural and in our element. Never once felt judged or self conscious and she shared with us cool history while we walked in Old San Juan. I cannot thank her and her partner enough!

Nilka was so so so good!! Amazing Engagement Photos!
My fiancee and I are native New Yorkers and booked Nilka for our engagement photos, while exploring Puerto Rico for a wedding venue. We found her on wedding wire, looked at her intagram and decided to book our photos with her. She responded quickly and understood what I was looking for. She came up with location ideas, sent us locations of where to meet and where to park. She maximized our one hour session and took us to so many locations to take the perfect photos. She captured over 100 amazing photos, and we had a fun session with Nilka. At no point was it awkward- it was like we knew her for years! She made us feel so comfortable in front of the camera and offered her own recommendations and help in wedding planning. We can't recommend Nilka enough, and plan to hire her as our wedding photographer!

Nilka helped me plan a surprise proposal during my trip to San Juan and capture some amazing photos of the moment. She was very friendly and helpful in planning all the details before I came to Puerto Rico. We spoke multiple times on the phone before the day and she provided excellent advice to help make things perfect!
We ended up deciding to do the surprise proposal and photo shoot at Castillo San Felipe Del Morro in Old San Juan. It was a great location and allowed Nilka to capture some gorgeous photos.
Nilka was able to arrive to the location in advance and coordinate with me to get candid photos of the proposal. After the proposal we did a photo shoot around Del Morro. Nilka made us feel relaxed and at ease which allowed her to capture many wonderful photos of our special moment.
I would highly recommend working with Nilka. She is a talented and professional photographer along with being a kind person.

Nilka video chatted with us beforehand to make sure we were all on the same page, the quality of photos was incredible, and the package to have pictures prior to the wedding day in Old San Juan was amazing. Her communication was timely, she was helpful at all stages, and the pictures that will last me a lifetime are the best I could have asked for. No question, I would book her again in a heartbeat.
Nilka did an amazing job for my Bridal portraits in Old San Juan and for my wedding in Ponce at Castillo Serralles. I am very particular when it comes to photography so choosing a good photographer for my wedding was high on my list. I had no worries booking Nilka as her portfolio of work was stunning. She was quick at communicating with me and answered all of my many questions. Very professional and made you feel at ease. Her editing turnaround time was super fast too. I didn't expect to get our pictures back so quickly, so that was a huge plus. When we received our images, my (now) husband and I LOVED them. Amazing memories!
We got married back on May 2018 and Nilka was our photographer. The photos were taken at my house and at the venue (Rest Zafra del Caribe, Gurabo PR). She arrived on time and worked through the agreed time. She and her assistant were very professional and great to work with. The way that she managed the process was nice and made us feel less nervous. The photos came out great; like magazine photos. The colors and patterns were great even when no photoshop was used. She captured all the important moments including the ones that were posed and the ones that were not. Our package was digital and she delivered it via mail in a very nice package. When we saw the photos we were amazed and we loved them. Both my husband and I, my family, my bridal party, and friends; they all LOVED the photos. JUST AMAZING!!!! We totally recommend her...

Nilka did an outstanding job with the engagement and wedding photos. She is professional, reliable, and friendly. Nilka was very responsive to our messages/emails, we didn't have any issues communicating. We were impressed the turnaround time of the wedding photos; we had access to a digital album about a month after the wedding. Nilka was our original photographer when we originally had our wedding in Puerto Rico in November 2017. We had to cancel the wedding and move it to NYC. Nilka kept communucation with us after hurruacne and cane to New York City to take our pictures the dollowong March. She didnt charge us extra and was very understandng. She was professional, on time and very helpful with the poses. She even put on my veil on me because my hair artist forgot to!!! I absolutely loved my pictures! She stuck with us when many other vendors didn’t even give us back our deposits back. I believe she travels to other prts of the US like Flordia. I would definately book Nilka for yor engagement, wedding or any other memorablw event!

I absolutely loooved working with Nilka! She’s extremely professional, hard working and takes amazing pictures! She will capture your perfect side every time! We had an engagement session in Dumbo, Brooklyn and our wedding was in San Juan, PR. I loved every single shot! She’s very responsive and she’ll give you tips on how to pose, so you come out looking your best every single time. I hope we get to work with her again in the future.

Nilka was absolutely incredible. Although we did not get a chance to work with her before the wedding day, she made sure we knew exactly what to expect and made us feel entirely comfortable the entire day. She was working from the second she walked in to the end of the night. I was so nervous and on edge the morning of the wedding and Nilka was a calming presence throughout the entire process. She was efficient but never once did we feel rushed or bossed around. Aside from the planned shots she took so many candids without us even noticing! She was also creative in the composition of her shots so we don't feel like our pictures are cookie-cutter at all. They feel personal and completely ours. She was everything we were looking for in a photographer: energetic, creative, easy-going, and professional.We could not be happier with the memories Nilka captured for us!

My destination wedding was April 23 2017. I am so glad that I hired Nilka. She was quick to answer my emails and inquiries and her packages are great! I finally met her the day of the wedding and she was amazing to work with. She is kind and patient. I had a fussy three year nephew and she was great with him. She was focused and directed me quickly and always asked me if I was comfortable posing in different locations (which of course I was) and she was quick. You could tell she planned out her day and her vision. It was so great to work with her. When I told her of any image ideas I had she was down to do whatever and helped make it happen. She was a dream to work with and I can't wait to see the images. I would recommend her to anyone because she is amazing to work with!

It was a true pleasure having her in the wedding. Her work is spectacular and she makes every picture flow in the most comfortable way. Her work was so good that it has been difficult to choose the final photos for the album, because every photo captures the energy of the people and the beauty of the event. Funny story: The whole wedding reception came under the rain, but thanks to Nilka, her team, and their disposition to challenge the rain resulted in a spectacular set of photos full of movement, lights and essence.

Nilka was absolutely wonderful. We were planning our wedding from Maryland with little time to go over to PR to meet vendors. I talked to at least 3 different photographers before I met Nilka. She was flexible to our needs and always had such a positive energy. On the day of the wedding she was kind and patient but professional and knew exactly what shots would look best. Planning a destination wedding can be a little daunting, especially when you haven't ever been to the destination :) However, I was so happy I found Nilka. She is truly a professional. After going through her website I knew immediately she was the right photographer for our beach wedding. From the very beginning, Nilka was very responsive, easy to work with and very organized. She even gave me recommendations for other local vendors that I could work with. I met her the day of my wedding and immediately liked her! I have only seen a couple of images from the wedding (I just got married a couple of days ago) and have been blown away!! I can't wait to see the rest! This review is long overdue. We were looking through the photos from our wedding and were reminded of Nilka's amazing talent, and how we had neglected to publicly commend her.
Nilka was the the perfect choice to photograph our special day. Neither of us are very good at posing for photos, but Nilka captured all the special moments, and managed to make us look natural, relaxed (no small feat, since we both get nervous and awkward when we know we are being photographed)
She met with us a couple of days before the wedding so that she could get to us, and find out more about what we wanted to get out of our pictures. Her warm and professional demeanor instantly put us at ease.
Words cannot express what a joy it was to work with Nilka, and the finished products were more than we could have hoped for. We highly recommend her and if we had it to do all over again, we would not change a thing.

Pre-wedding she is very efficient, with a detailed questionnaire that she kept a print-out on the day of, so that we could be sure to get all the photos with family member arrangements we wanted.
Day of the wedding she arrived on time and quickly got started on pics of the accessories & rings. She arranged our first look and was great at finding alternative shot locations due to rain. She kept us dry and still got a lot of great portrait shots outdoors. Throughout the evening she captured many candid photos as well as us with all our guests.
Following the wedding, she provided a few 'sneak peak' photos the next day. And she delivered all of the images in less than 3 weeks (which is faster than the contract stated!).
I'm very happy with the quality of photos as well as artistic view she has to capture the moment.

When I was looking for my wedding photographer one of my bridesmaids asked me if I had seen the work of Nilka Gissell and I answered: No but I will definitely take a look at her Facebook page. As soon as I started looking the wedding pictures taken by Nilka I fell in love with her work instantly; there was a spark in every picture that made me feel like WOW!!! We were so lucky to have Nilka as our photographer for our wedding in San Juan. Organizing a wedding from out of the country is very stressful. However, hiring her was one of the easiest tasks. She always responded promptly to my emails, stayed in contact throughout the whole process. She was kind enough to meet me the day before the wedding at the resort to go over last minute details and scope out the location; that gave me peace of mind. She was punctual the day of and made the whole day a smooth process with capturing every detail. The photos came out amazing and the wedding album was of the highest quality. When deciding on a photographer, one of things that stood out in all the reviews was Nilka’s level of professionalism. We couldn't agree more (and the same applies to her colleague Jason). As one of many examples, she remembered the names of all of our family members. But beyond professionalism, she set a wonderful tone for the day. She has a great sense of humor and she’s someone you feel quite comfortable sharing what are quite personal moments. She also really took into consideration our preferences. We wanted to spend as much time possible with our guests and she did a brilliant job of being efficient without ever making us feel rushed. Charismatic, caring, full of pizzazz, and talented are just a few words to describe Nilka! Hiring Nilka as our photographer was one of the first (and best!) decisions we made as we started planning our wedding in Puerto Rico.
Nilka was one of the first vendors we hired. We had studied her work and upon meeting, we knew we wanted to have her as our wedding photographer. Not only was Nilka super friendly and easy to engage with, she was full of great ideas!
We had the great fortune of doing our engagement session with Nilka in Brooklyn, New York, the city where my husband and I fell in love, and it just confirmed we had made the right choice. She made the photo session fun, wanted to get to know us and captured some amazing shots.
Her commitment and level of work during the wedding day (and the days leading up to it), was truly amazing. She went above and beyond! On the wedding day, Nilka arrived ahead of the scheduled time and immediately started capturing the details and moments of our special day. She had memorized everyone’s names and interacted with them in a very gracious way. Her charisma immediately filled the room! The rest of her work during the wedding ceremony and reception was just as great. She made sure to capture the essence of our day with our loved ones.

We live in New York and decided to take a short trip to PR to look at some venues so we wanted to take advantage of the trip and also take our engagement pictures. We had seen Nilka’s work, which we really liked, so we decided to contact her to find out more about her services. My now husband does not speak Spanish and that was not a problem at all since Nilka speaks perfect english. She suggested to us a few places to go in Condado to take the engagement pictures and made it very comfortable. The minute she posted a "sneak peek" of our session on Facebook, we knew we picked the right photographer!! We couldn't wait to see the rest!
On the wedding day, Nilka was just awesome!! She was very easy going, accommodating, very sociable, calm and collected. Working with her and her assistant was a breeze. She made sure we got all the pictures that we wanted, including a very special picture with the bridal party. Photos and album turned out fantastic!

We couldn't have been happier with Nilka and her services. I was in charge of choosing a photographer because one of my hobbies is photography so the quality of our wedding photos was important to me. I found her through Wedding Wire and I really liked the style of her photos. We got married on the western side of Puerto Rico (my wife is from Moca) and Nilka was willing to drive across the island to photograph our wedding. My wife and I live in Virginia so all our contact with Nilka was over email. She was very responsive and very professional. She was also flexible in adjusting the package that we wanted to fit our needs. She speaks perfect English (she actually lived in VA for a little while) which was perfect for us since our wedding guests consisted of Spanish and non-Spanish speakers. On the day of the wedding she and her assistant made us feel at ease so that it was very comfortable working with them. We loved the photographs that they produced. We got our proofs about a month after our wedding and the photo album a few weeks after that. If you are getting married in Puerto Rico I would highly recommend hiring Nilka.

Nilka was great!!! She was very patient, professional, responsive and most of all charming!!! She understood exactly ehat we wanted and made us feel very comfortable during our photo sessions. Hands down the best photographer around. She was very quick in editing and within a month of my wedding I had my album. I totally recommend her. :)

Nilka is fantastic! She makes you feel completely at ease, and she is incredibly talented at what she does. We couldn't have asked for more for the price. She is excellent and we loved her products! Highly recommend.

Una de las decisiones mas dificiles para mi fue escoger el fotógrafo para mi boda, ya que al final de todo esos son los recuerdos que quedan. Pero definitivamente la mejor opcion es Nilka. Super responsable, creativa, atenta, paciente y sobre todo excelente fotógrafa. Quedé mas que satisfecha con su hermoso trabajo! La recomiendo al 100%

Nilka Gissell is awesome! We had a 'destination wedding' in Puerto Rico (which is a long process on its own!), and although I had my parents in the island, I depended on the web to 'see' who was available for us to contract in the island -- this was an adventure on its own (I'm from PR, my husband is from US, & we've lived in Colorado for 2 yrs). Considering this, one of the things that made us choose Nilka was her presence on the web - something not all photographers in the island offer - we were able to see her work not only in her blog/webpage, but through Facebook (plus, her availability via email).
We were able to meet face-to-face when I went in early March 2013. She was excellent with me and my parents, while showing us her work. She explained how she goes about the day of the wedding and pictures to be taken (options we had: first look of the bride and groom, or traditional, at the ceremony pics).
When the wedding day arrived, she got in early and did what she had explained. She's very professional, but at the same time very warm and makes everyone feel "at home" -- her assistant was excellent too. It was a crazy, overwhelming day --for all the emotions getting married can bring to the couple and their families -- so to have a photographer that was able to mix in as a friend, more than a service provider was priceless. She was able to take some intimate moments, that we’ve loved so much! And she was quick too with the online gallery (1.5 week) For all these things, we've thanked her, and surely feel very positive to recommend her.
Note: Being in CO, she made it a "piece of cake" for us to sign the contract safely online – as well as accepting PayPal payment, which was a ++ for us out here (Basically, if you are planning a ‘destination wedding’ in PR – get Nilka! it’ll be one of the easier parts of the whole planning!)

Nilka photographed our 1 year anniversary love story session in San Juan. We are from Washington DC. I was actually sick that day but Nilka made me feel really relaxed and my husband and I enjoyed the fact that she was so patient and accommodating. During the photoshoot she took us be places we wold no have seen as regular tourists. The photo session was one of our favorite times during the trip.
I highly recommend Nilka. Our photos turned out great! She is an amazing photographer!

Nosotros contratamos a la fotografa Nilka Gisell para la celebracion de los quince de mi hija Christie el dia 2 de junio de 2012. Ella es una excelente profesional, conoce muy bien su trabajo, es responsable y te da la orientacion necesaria para que tus fotos queden de show. Va mas alla de tus espectativas. De verdad la recomendare toda mi vida. Sus fotos asi lo dicen. Nunca imagine que una fotografa fuera tan profesional como lo es ella. Cumplio cabalmente con gran sentido de puntualidad. Ya el album de los quince de mi hija estuvo en menos de dos semanas, sorprendiendonos aun mas de lo que habia demostrado en su trabajo. The wedding day goes by the blink of an eye, and when you look backwards it seems like a dream. That’s why Nilka’s work was so special for us, because it captures every single detail of that day, even those that we didn’t remember. It was a pretty rough day because of the hour of the ceremony (very early in the morning) and the heat. Even though, the pictures are unbelievable. She met all our expectations, since we didn’t want our wedding pictures to be the traditional ones; we want to capture the essence of that special day and her flexibility as a photographer was the key to achieve that.

An unfortunate ending to an otherwise positive experience
I recently contracted Nilka's photography services for my wedding, following a recommendation from our wedding planner. While there were aspects of our experience that were positive, there were also some concerns that arose during the process.
From the beginning, Nilka demonstrated professionalism and responsiveness via email, promptly addressing our inquiries and understanding our specific photography preferences. The majority of the photos we received were stunning, and our guests showered us with compliments.
However, we did encounter some challenges related to the environmental elements of our wedding venues. The pictures taken at the locations where my bridesmaids and I got ready, as well as our wedding venue (Casa De España), were affected by lighting conditions that resulted in highly saturated images with deep shadows. Consequently, our guests appeared darker in complexion and had an orange tone.
Upon reviewing our contract, we discovered a clause that allowed for two album revisions. Seeking clarification on the process for retouching some of the photos, my husband emailed Nilka. Unfortunately, her response left us taken aback. She disputed our request, stating it was not agreed upon in the contract, and that the edits were final. She even compared the images to those in her portfolio, which were quite different from what we had received.
In her email, Nilka explained the variation in color calibrations across devices and the impact of venue environments on pictures. While we understood these factors, the issues we experienced were evident across various mediums, raising legitimate concerns. She ended her email with “I hope you can love your photos as you once did” which felt accusatory.
Although we genuinely loved most of our photos initially, we gradually noticed the imperfections over time. Both my husband and I responded to Nilka, explaining our evolving perspective & that we misinterpreted part of our contract. We also suggested improvements to the wording of the contract to avoid similar misunderstandings with future clients. Unfortunately, it has been over a week since we reached out to Nilka again. Nilka's subsequent lack of communication after her initial response, which felt somewhat passive-aggressive, has left us disappointed.
While we appreciated Nilka's wonderful personality during our wedding day and the majority of her photographs, this particular incident has cast a shadow on our overall experience and opinion of Nilka's services. We had hoped for continued dialogue and understanding, even if the desired changes couldn't be made.
In conclusion, our experience with Nilka's photography services had its highlights, but the lack of resolution and communication regarding our concerns has dampened our overall satisfaction.

* Nilka did show up on time did FULL 8 HOURS ( 2-10pm).
* I CRIED when i saw the photos because they were SO BAD.I NEVER FELT UGLIER.
* DOES NOT EDIT any PHOTOS. You get what you get,the rest is up to you.
* in almost every picture the wedding party is cut off at the knees .
* DOES NOT CAPTURE MOMENTS JUST TAKES PICTURES.

* I was hunched over in about 80% of the pictures at no time did she say "can you sit up,i can see down your dress."
*Does NOT angle her camera. I LOST 25 lbs for my wedding ! I never looked BIGGER in a picture,than in the ones SHE took! my husband said " don't cry honey...at least in person, you didn't look like you did in those pictures." my mother said "wow ... you would think you were so much HEAVIER looking at these pictures ,it LOOKS like you GAINED WEIGHT for the wedding."
*had an ENTIRE HOTEL and OUT DOORS for pics, EVERY photo of groomsmen was in the SAME spot with the same green EXIT SIGN behind them!
*so many pictures ruined by PEOPLE IN BACK ROUND she didn't feel the need to ask them to step aside for her to get a clear shot of me.
*The beautiful framed picture of my DEAD GRANDMOTHER was surrounded by dirty makeup brushes,a cup of juice and hair extensions the girls didn't use IN THE PIC !
*The photo of all the bridesmaid dresses was so MESSY. tags were out,dresses were crooked on hangers,some belts were on some off,she took the pictures just like that,didn't fix not one thing!
* it poured the night of the wedding Nilka offered to take photos outside the following day,i declined because hair and makeup would not have been the same and my dress was dirty. I ran about 45min behind, that is no excuse for such bad pictures.I emailed nilka with my list of complaints. she told me she has a certain photography style thats why my pictures looked that way. she offered another short session IF I EVER go back. i'm so sad i had aprox. 16 OKAY pics OUT OF aprox. 671.
