We had Monte Vista Strings for our ceremony and it was just absolutely LOVELY. They were very accommodating with our song choices and there were so many songs to pick from! They even played the Game of Thrones theme song - our guests LOVED it! It was such a beautiful scene with the music in the background and I am SO SO SO glad we chose them to play at our wedding. It made all our guests cry! Highly recommend them!

Our ceremony music was beautiful!!! I was on the fence of having them for our ceremony, but I do not regret it one bit! They are very talented and very professional. Thank you!!

We hired the Wired! Pop Contemporary String Quartet for our wedding ceremony and cocktail hour and a jazz band for our dinner hour, both from Monte Vista Strings and Jazz and both absolutely amazing. This company made our day. All our special requests were honored and performed beautifully, and Andrew was always available to give us advice and guidance throughout the entire process. Highly recommend this company.

They were great. So helpful with song suggestions and a wide variety of instruments to choose from. Made it very easy since they can start and stop playing as needed. Highly recommend.

Magnificent! Monte Vista Strings performed at our daughter's wedding a year ago, They provided pre-wedding music, processional, recessional and everything in between. Even though we had a quartet, they were able to fill the church with the strong and beautiful Water Music and the sweet, soft strains of Vivaldi throughout the service. They set the tone for a beautiful, traditional and touching nuptials. Also, they were also willing to drive 3 hours out of the city to do so. Andrew Small and the members of the Monte Vista Strings are very creative, professional, attractive and are quite accommodating. We highly recommend them and plan to use them for future celebrations.

We used Monte Vista Strings and Jazz for our daughter's Oct 24th wedding and reception. For the ceremony, we used the strings and flute quartet, and we couldn't be more pleased. Due to transportation issues, the quartet ended up playing A LOT more prelude music than we had previously selected, due to the delay in the ceremony start time, but it was all beautiful and appropriate for the setting. During the ceremony, the music was on cue, and the arrangements were lovely - just as I imagined they would be, but they are professionals after all!
The Jazz Ensemble played during the cocktail hour, and for the first part of the dinner, and they were amazing, with a big full sound! I was very pleased with their music selections.
The MV Strings and Jazz Ensemble helped create the magic of the day! Thanks Andrew and team!!!

If you want a great experience from beginning to end, this is the right choice for you. Andrew is extremely professional, accommodating, and TALENTED. He will make sure he has exactly what you are looking for and will leave your guests speechless. I could not have asked for a perfect experience during our wedding ceremony. I still get the goosebumps when I see the video!

Monte Vista Strings provided the most beautiful music for my wedding. My wedding was very small and intimate but also a full, traditional Catholic mass. Andrew walked me through all the music and helped me find the most complementary accompaniment for our ceremony. I had a guitar, violin, and vocalist - It was so perfect – moreso than I could have imagined. I only regretted that we didn’t have more people there to hear how beautiful it was.

Monte Vista provided some beautiful music for our wedding. As the bride, I didn't get to hear a lot of it but it certainly pleased my mother, who was a music major and still is a music buff. They were flexible with her requests for specific pieces and they all sounded amazing. She's a tough music customer and this was one of the first times I've ever heard her not have any "constructive criticism" for musicians.

MVSJ is an incredible group! We had them not only for our wedding ceremony but also for the reception. We aren't big on dancing and had a small, intimate wedding so we opted out of having a DJ. MVSJ plays a huge variety of music (it's awesome hearing pop songs on strings!), and we even requested a custom song for our first dance. We were so happy with the music, and they helped create the perfect ambiance.

Absolutely superb! Andrew went above and beyond in every step of the planning process and made it extremely easy to plan the music. He was quick to return emails, phone calls, and inquiries. They were prompt to the ceremony, exquisitely dressed, and of course, sounded amazing! I seriously doubt you find a higher level of professionalism and quality of music. Highly highly recommend.

Absolutely the best! Our ceremony was like a dream...like being in a romance film. :) I love watching the film of that day and hearing the beautiful instruments that Monte Vista played. Truly amazing! Highly recommend them. Great vendor!

We hired the Monte Vista Strings for our daughter's wedding in the chapel at St Mary's University in San Antonio. We had just two musicians: violin and cello.

    •    We found them initially through a friend of a friend, but hired them on the basis of their excellent and very helpful website (with samples of many different pieces to listen to) and my exchange of emails with the director. We were contacting them only a couple weeks before the wedding, yet the director was responsive and very accommodating. Their web site is very well laid out and it was good to have the music options laid out so clearly.    •

Getting now to the most important thing: their performance. I'm a former performing harpsichordist myself and I thought they both were EXCELLENT musicians. Our music choices were traditional—all Baroque (heavy on the Bach and Handel). Although the pieces we selected were intended for much larger ensembles (or for organ), the two-instrument arrangements they played were really good and the small ensemble was perfect for our venue (and our tight budget).     •

And everything was done professionally and comfortably. They arrived on time, quickly sized up the venue and picked the best place for them to set up, started on time—and as I said, played beautifully.

Their music provided a beautiful dimension to a beautiful ceremony. A number of our guests commented to me at the reception how beautiful the music at the ceremony was. I can recommend them enthusiastically.

Andrew and his team of Monte Vista Strings and Jazz provided the music for our wedding ceremony, cocktail hour and during our sit down dinner. Everything was perfect! I trusted completely in Andrew to provide the best music selection, and he delivered!
The music and cantor during our ceremony was wonderful. Leaving the cathedral we were greeted by a Mariachi group playing fun and lively music, and it was so delightful. Our guests absolutely loved the 3 piece jazz group during the cocktail hour. During dinner, they provided a contemporary wired strings group that was beautiful. The level of professionalism and performance far exceeded my expectations. I want to thank Andrew and his team for making our special day a memorable one!

Monte Vista Strings provided the most beautiful accompaniment to my daughter's wedding and then moved seamlessly to the cocktail reception which they made both elegant and fun. The musicians among us were in awe of their expertise with both traditional and contemporary pieces, and I was exceedingly pleased with how Andrew Small helped me through the planning process. While the musicians may stay in the background, their performances are truly center stage!

The wedding was absolutely perfect, and the music truly had a role in this. We had classical Spanish guitar at our tiny 12 person outdoor ranch wedding, and it just made the wedding that much more magical. If we had a larger wedding, I would have loved a larger string ensemble. As a musician, I felt not only completely comfortable working with Monte Vista Strings and Jazz but thoroughly impressed. Honestly, I wasn't sure which instruments would be the best, but Andrew customed designed this choice for our wedding. They truly understand weddings!

Our goal was to have a wedding that was elegant and beautiful. Andrew and his team of musicians helped us accomplish that! We hired their string trio for pre-ceremony, ceremony and cocktail hour music. It was a perfect touch to our beautiful outdoor ceremony at Los Encinos Hill Country Estate. Their music set the mood for the ceremony and provided the perfect background music during the cocktail hour conversation. I really appreciate that their website allows you to listen to the music in advance and customize the music for each stage of the evening. Thank you Andrew for providing such a wonderful service!

We hired the Monte Vista Strings and Jazz group to provide the background music for our company's 10th anniversary party on June 23, 2012. The entire audience from our group, Momentum Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab, had great things to say about the jazz trio we hired. They played at the perfect volume, their set list played to the feel of the group, and they were the utmost professionals throughout the entire evening. The entire process was a very enjoyable and memorable experience. The entire Monte Vista Strings and Jazz group were very professional and I would definitely use them again for any future events!

Our spanish guitarist was the perfect piece to the romantic ceremony we wanted. We selected our songs with Andrew and they couldnt have been a better fit. We also had him play for cocktail hour and that was a real treat for our guests. Very professional and very talented musicians!

Monte Vista Strings provided the PERFECT accompaniment for our daughter's wedding ceremony and cocktail hour. They were simply the best in all aspects...from booking to performing to saying good-bye. They were not only extremely talented, but professional as well as kind. We loved the music they provided which was classical and then contemporary providing a nice twist and surprise for our guests. Having our daughter and new son exit the gorgeous outdoor venue set at the base of a grassy hill with the Colorado River in the background to the Beatles "All You Need is Love" done by a string trio was phenomenal. I would recommend this group to anyone looking to create the perfect ambiance and tone for a very special event. They are THAT good! Thanks, Andrew, for taking such good care of us!

Andrew was extremely responsive from my first inquiry. He made sound suggestions to ask of any company that I would choose to use for my wedding. His genuine and caring nature about the event is what led me to choose to work with his organization. Everything was easy and MVSJ was flexible about meeting all the special music requests I had and taking time to answer every question I had to make the day flow smoothly. I am a Celebrity Artist who has worked with some of the finest musicians and orchestras around the world. I needed an addition to my professional ensemble for a major concert event in San Antonio and Monte Vista was a recommendation from friends of mine at the San Antonio Symphony. Andrew Small and his group turned my ensemble into the real orchestra that I was was hoping for. The professionalism of this group and the skill of this group far out measures what you would ever find in a Free Lance ensemble because they are the real thing. I know this because as it turns out they were members of another performance I had done with the San Antonio Symphony Pops. they are not a just another for hire group. From the very beginning of the wedding it was apparent we were listening to a flawless and articulate group of musicians. They were impressive in every respect yet had the professional restraint to provide a backdrop that allowed the bride and groom to be the focus of the ceremony. In fact, they performed so well the church vicar offered Andrew, one of the musicians, a position to play weekly at their church services. Other family members, including the bride and groom, commented on how pleased they were with the whole musical experience. Our Monte Vista string quartet was the something-extra-special every bride wants on her wedding day! The music performance superb, communication with the director prompt and range of music choices comprehensive. We had many compliments from our guests regarding Monte Vista's interpretation and presentation of our selected songs. Monte Vista Strings provided us with our Ceremony music and the music during Cocktail hour. The music was superb! They're musicians created the perfect atmosphere for the cocktail hour and I was very happy to walk down the aisle to their playing of Canon in D. Andrew Small and the Monte Vista Strings were the perfect complement to our commitment ceremony. We had a very complicated song for them to accompany our singers on, and they came through with aplomb and grace. I only wish I could have sat in the audience to hear it all. EVERYONE commented on how much the string quartet added to the ceremony. Absolutely perfect. Andy was fabulous, very professional, and I loved his website, which had a multitude of songs to choose from. He also allows you to choose from many different types of music. For example, there are harpists, acoustic guitarists, string quartets, pianists, etc. Monte Vista Strings is a one stop shop for your ceremony music needs. We were very pleased.

Monte Vista Strings and Jazz delivers what they promise. Andrew works hard to make sure he meets his clients needs. As a Wedding Planner, recent Bride and lover of music, my husband and I utilized MVS & J not once but twice and on both occasions we were thrilled with the level of quality AND talent of the individuals who performed at our two separate weddings. Our first ceremony was two years ago and the recent was weeks ago. Nothing changed over the two years...and that is a good thing! Dependable, Professional, and Friendly.

Monte Vista Strings provided incredible music for our ceremony and cocktail hour. I worked closely with the director, Andrew Small, to select the perfect songs and musicians for our event. The string quartet provided the gorgeous, traditional sound I envisioned for my church ceremony, while the classical guitar/violin duo helped transition the evening to a more contemporary "party" ambiance at the cocktail hour. I truly appreciated MVS's professionalism and talent. When we decided to add a vocalist to the ceremony at the last minute, MVS was flexible and accommodating, even going so far as to learn a new song and adapt it to strings. It was executed beautifully! I would recommend MVS to any bride seeking fabulous music for her wedding - they are outstanding!

Monte Vista Stings is Wonderful! I have the opportunity to recommend vendors to my brides to help them in the process of planning their wedding all the time. Andrew and the Monte Vista Strings group was absolutely wonderful. The music was lovely, and really created the perfect ambience at my wedding. He also was very helpful, as initially I was going to book a string quartet, but he recommended the string trio because my venue was very acoustic. They sounded amazing, and actually helped me save money! I was so happy I found them!

Andrew and his fellow musicians did a wonderful job providing classical music for our daughter's wedding. We live out of state so we coordinated the entire thing via email and phone calls - - I never even met Andrew until after the ceremony was over. But he is such a professional and it was clear we were in good hands. A week before the wedding, we opted to move the ceremony from an outdoor venue to a nearby barn due to weather, meaning some other changes to logistics and flow from ceremony to reception. Even though it was in a barn, it was a formal wedding and the musicians dressed accordingly. Andrew was able to adapt to the new plan with no problem. I have to say, having live music played on beautiful classical instruments lent an elegance to the ceremony that was beyond my expectations. My daughter and her husband were very happy with Monte Vista Strings.

Monte Vista Strings is more than Strings and jazz. At my daughter's wedding in April, with a Fiesta themed ceremony, Andrew Small provided us with professional Mariaches to play for the ceremony. He made sure that they included the string sounds we wanted and also that they were capable of playing a more lively performance for the coctail hour, and that they could provide vocals for the cocktail hour! He worked with us within our budget to make all of this happen! It was a huge success with many out of town guests appreciating the flavor and quality of the music, bringing us many compliments throughtout the evening and beyond. Whatever my musical needs are in the future, I will turn to Monte Vista Strings first for their guidance in all things musical! Gratefully, Ms. Rebecca Allen, Mother of the Bride!

Monte Vista Strings was great. I had very specific idea about what music I wanted played for the ceremony and reception (mostly baroque). They played exactly what I wanted. Andrew Small is the director of the outfit and he was wonderful to work with. Most importantly, on the day of the wedding everything went smoothly. All the musicians play for the San Antonio Symphony, and their professionalism shines through. The music was beautiful.

Having a string quartet for my ceremony made the day extra special. Although I didn't get to hear most of the music being that I was the bride and inside, walking out and hearing it was so beautiful. We also got many compliments on the music!

If you want to have a romantic, beautiful touch to your wedding- hire Monte Vista, they are extremely professional and play so beautifully. My ceremony was just beautiful and the music was great!!! I did not have to give them a music list as they knew just what to do

These musicians provided beautiful ceremony music with perfect timing. As the bride, I was not able to hear all of their music before the ceremony, but after watching the video it looks like it set the tone for our ceremony just perfectly. And the music just filled up the barn like magic when I walked down the aisle. My mom, who planned much of my wedding, did most of the correspondence with Monte Vista Strings and said they were very easy to work with as well as responsive.

I booked Monte Vista Strings for my reception. They were wonderful and my guests loved them!! They were sometimes delayed in their email responses to me but I do understand that they are busy!! So I gave them 3.5 stars in that category but I overall loved them!! I asked that they play a variety of music. They played classical music, pop/contemporary such as Cold Play, musicals (such as Phantom of the Opera), and I also requested a specific song in advance that they waited to play during a special moment at our reception. I would definitely book them again for an event.

Beautiful, especially in a small setting like The Inn at Craig's Place. Very receptive to songs that we wanted played and was even able to play songs outside of the box-- Anyone Else But You, The Simpsons Theme song, etc. Very personable, great addition to our wedding. We received a lot of complements, very happy.

First off, the music was beautiful. We had the String Quartet for the church. When I signed up I put String Quartet and Trumpet Voice Pending Samples. I had a few questions through the process. Once he was out of town and understandly couldn't go over my paperwork. I was never called when he was back in town. I also called closer to the wedding, left a message and was never called back. We decided against the Trumpet and Voice, I wrote a check and sent it in a week and a half before the wedding (7 days before is deadline.) The remaining balance was off so Andrew called me. We went over it and I realized I was $80.00 off. I wrote a check the following Monday and sent it out. Wednesday he hadn't received it so he asked for cash the day of the wedding. I was a little offended when I was told Thursday would have been too late for the check to deposit into the bank and "go through" It actually take a few weeks sometimes for a check to process and "go through". I gave him cash the day of and he returned the check. After spending thousands of dollars for a wedding, why would someone write a $80.00 check and bounce it? None of this would of happened if a phone call would of been returned. My suggestion, Monte Vista Strings is wonderful. We received MANY compliments about the ceremony music. Be persistent when calling. Mention when you have called before. Ask for a personalized receipt. Receipts of first payment are sent out in bulk, not including what you owe or itemized. So if something changes and you add or remove something you don't know what to add or subtract. After everything, the day of the wedding you will be VERY PLEASED.

My husband and I used Monte Vista Strings when we were married in 2011. As someone who works in the events business, I advise against using them. Our pastor spoke longer than expected, causing our ceremony to run about 20 minutes longer than anticipated. We approved going over time with Monte Vista Strings prior to the event and were approached by the owner as we were walking down the aisle immediately following our "I Do's." He requested that my husband pay him $100 for overtime as we headed out of our ceremony for photos and to greet family and friends. We were overjoyed to have just gotten married, and I'm still appalled by the inconsiderate actions of this company. We are reminded every anniversary when we watch our wedding video. The owner also approached our family members demanding payment. We dropped a check in the mail the following week and were harassed with phone calls every day until it ended up in their mail box. After reading other reviews, I noticed that others have had a similar experience and Monte Vista Strings replied to the review trying to defend their actions instead of apologizing for them. There is NO excuse for the lack of class and professionalism by this company.

Monte Vista Strings's musicians are excellent, however, I was shocked and embarrassed at the lack of professionalism. My son's wedding ran 20min late & I had previously approved for them to continue to play in the event that this were to happen for an additional fee. I was appalled that as soon as the ceremony was over & my husband & I were not even down the aisle and Andrew Small from Monte Vista Strings approached me & insisted on payment then & there. Mind you I paid in full months before. I asked if he could give me a minute as I had guests greeting & hugging & he said no. He would not even move out of the way as some guests were trying to take pics. This was even after the wedding coordinator tried to intervene & asked for him to give us a second. He acted like we were going to run away. Guests even made comments. Mind you we paid over $65,000 for this wedding, we were not going anywhere. I understand he needed his money, but I much would have rather he ask for a deposit up front to avoid this embarassment! Also whenever you call Mr. Small he is always not where he can talk & often doesnt return emails or calls. I would not rehire.

I hired a Monte Vista String stringed trio and piano to play for our wedding. I wanted to discuss music with Andrew and could not reach him until just before the wedding preludes started. He told me specifically he could learn two requested pieces and was unable to do so despite having 3 months. All the musicians admitted to NEVER EVEN SEEING the sheet music until just before the wedding started. He replaced a slower classical piece with a Taylor Swift song that I would never have chosen. The entire ensemble played only a few pieces...it was the mostly piano that played. There were missed timing and notes. I'm sure for the lay person, it was just fine. These are well seasoned musicians after all. However, for me and my musical family, it was insufficient. I was sorely disappointed as I had been eagerly waiting to hear these pieces by professional musicians. For $1350, I expected the musicians to have seen and practiced the music beforehand and to have played for all the pieces. Though I am sure others may have had pleasant experiences, mine was not. I do appreciate musicians and the arts and so ask for nothing in return, only acknowledgement that for the next bride, they should be more responsive and practice! Nothing will ruin our special day, but this company made it more stressful and much less beautiful than it could have been. As a musician who performs at weddings, I am very disappointed in their lack of professionalism.

Despite what you may see posted below, I did send an email initially with the two requested pieces. One had sheet music and the other did not. I was assured both could be played. I also sent audio for both songs. The piece with sheet music did not have part of the melody, and the ensemble did play what was written, but if they had listened to the audio and practiced, they would have realized there was an essential piece missing. I am giving two stars because at baseline they are good musicians.
