Amazing everything!

Stunning cake and absolutely delicious

The very best!!! Maxine made the cake for our wedding and WOW it was stunning (and so delicious)! My husband and I live in Michigan and she helped us think through flavor choices and combinations since we couldn't come in for a tasting. Maxine baked our wedding cake last year in April.

The cake looked and tasted fantastic. Her communication during the process was also excellent.

We tried two samples to get the flavors right, so we got to try a selection of her cakes, fillings, and frostings. They were all delicious.

We would definitely recommend her.

Can’t Believe A Wedding Cake Could Be So Good

I cannot stress enough how happy my partner and I are with our cake from Maxine! We got a spice cake with a brown sugar buttercream and apple compote and it was so delicious, had great flavor, was moist, and well balanced. We were complimented all night about how our cake is the first any of our friends ever had at a wedding and actually loved.

I made sure to actually get a piece for myself and it was the perfect end to the evening.

Maxine is also just so easy to work with and accommodating and I cannot stress enough how happy we are with our experience!

Delicious and beautiful cake for our wedding!

Maxine did an excellent job creating with us a beautiful cake for our wedding. She made us a two tier lemon sponge cake with raspberry filling and vanilla buttercream icing with fresh fruit and delivered it to our wedding at Rustic Ridge View Farm. Everyone loved the cake including us! If you are in the Hudson Valley, Maxine is an excellent choice for a beautiful and delicious cake!

Amazing experience!

Maxine baked our wedding cake for our June 2022 wedding, and also baked all of the desserts for our dessert table (mini cheesecakes, whoopee pies, fruit bars, etc.) Everything was absolutely delicious and presented beautifully! Maxine is such a pleasure to work with -- extremely responsive, talented and kind -- and we would absolutely hire her again.

Cake that tasted even better than it looked!

We LOVED our wedding cake from Maxine. After the extremely yummy tasting, we decided to go with pistachio cake, lemon curd / buttercream filling, and buttercream frosting. Maxine communicated clearly and proactively about every aspect of the cake, from the flavors and decoration style to the day-of delivery logistics. She even baked us a mini cake so that we didn't have to worry about saving the top tier. The final result was both gorgeous and delicious, and we received many compliments from our guests. The cake was a bit of a splurge for us, but it was absolutely worth it!

Maxine is amazing!

Maxine baked us the most delicious wedding cake in the world for our August 2021 wedding. We wanted a unique and delicious flavor for our cake, and she definitely delivered with an absolutely incredible lemon-lavender cake with lemon curd filling. All the guests at our wedding were absolutely raving about the cake all night. Maxine was so thoughtful throughout the entire process, from our first cake tasting, to checking in regularly throughout the wedding process to the day of our wedding, when she decorated our cake so beautifully with flowers from our florist. Maxine was an absolute delight to work with, and we're so grateful her beautiful cake was part of our special day!

Still getting compliments about this cake!

Two weeks later, I am still getting compliments about my wedding cake! It was so good! I loved working with Maxine. COVID makes so many parts of wedding planning difficult, but Maxine made the cake process easy. She has a number of creative flavor options that are right up my alley. I picked up two tasting halves - a raspberry chocolate ganache and lemon lavender cake with butter cream icing - about 3 or 4 months before the wedding. I went with the lemon lavender cake. It was beautiful and delicious. Relatives lined up for a slice! I even saw friends eating cake the next morning for breakfast! (I certainly had a slice each day the following week with my coffee - haha!) Maxine was kind, professional, and a delight to work with!

WOWED by Maxine!!

Maxine provided the desserts for my daughter's wedding at Blooming Hills Farm - they were AMAZING!! Maxine made mini fruit tarts, brownies, and tiramisu for the evening - ABSOLUTELY DELISH!! Beautiful cake

Maxine is such a kind and thoughtful person -- it comes across even in her email correspondence and is clear she loves what she does! Maxine was actually the very first vendor we booked after we chose our venue! It was clear and obvious that she was the best choice.

She gave us great choices for our wedding cake and after a cake tasting, we decided on a lemon poppy cake with blackberry preserve with a 'semi-naked' look to it for our summer wedding. I admit I'm normally not a big cake eater, but I couldn't stop eating this cake! Maxine is professional, VERY responsive -- I can't recommend her enough. Thank you, Maxine!

We hired Maxine to make our wedding cake as she was on a list of vendors from our venue! She was wonderful and so easy to work with. Due to covid, the tasting was a little different but it was great that she was able to accommodate us! She gave super helpful guidance when we were deciding on flavor combinations. Highly recommend!!

Maxine made the most amazing cakes for our wedding. Her flavors are so good, we couldn’t pick just one! She made us 2 different cakes and both were absolutely delicious. Our guests enjoyed being able to have a variety. The cakes were moist and the frosting was perfect. The decoration was exactly what we wanted, simple and elegant but not over the top. Dream cake

My wedding day was full of wonderful surprises and our wedding cake was at the top of the list! I was so over joyed when I finally saw the cake. Maxine made it so beautiful and worked directly with our florist to make it happen seamlessly. Delicious wedding cake

Our experience with Maxine was wonderful. The hardest part was choosing what cake we liked the best from all of the samples that she made for us. Our final choice of yellow cake, raspberry chocolate ganache filling, and milk chocolate buttercream frosting was loved by all. The only negative thing about the cake was that it was eaten too quickly!

Dream Cake

I had to plan my wedding from another state and was nervous about how everything would come together. Maxine listened to everything I wanted and delivered that and more. Just what I wanted and more

My husband and mine's wedding anniversary was coming up and I wanted to surprise him with something unique and I started looking for cakes. I ran across Maxine and was wowed by her gallery of cakes. Through our correspondence I realized how professional, attentive and knowledgeable she was. Not to mention the variety of flavors and add-ons available for the cakes definitely made me a keeper. I chose plain cake with passion fruit curd (since my husband is from South America and we used to live there) and a cream cheese icing. The ease of scheduling, payment and pick-up was helpful. The cake was a hit and a mood-lifter during these difficult times and being under quarantine. Oh, and after putting it in the fridge, the cake still tastes just as great as the first day. How about that!

The most incredible (and incredibly delicious) wedding cake!

We weren’t sure if we wanted a wedding cake, but that was before we had Max’s cake. Max designed the most perfect three-tier beauty for us, and it was one of my favorite parts of our wedding.

If you like cake, you will love Max’s cakes. If you don’t like cake, you will love Max’s cakes. I hadn’t seen my husband eat an entire piece of cake in the six years of our relationship, and he had three pieces at our cake tasting. That’s how good her cakes are. Our guests agreed, and several people told us they were embarrassed but they had multiple pieces of cake because it was just that good.

Not only were the flavors delicious (vanilla cake, blackberry preserves and custard filling, brown sugar buttercream icing, yum!), but the cake itself was beautiful. The tiers had different textures to keep it interesting, and Max expertly designed the flower arrangement that cascades so perfectly down the side. It was exactly what I imagined. If you want a delicious and showstopping cake all in one, hire Max!!

The best experience!

Our cake was SO INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS! Maxine was such a joy to work with- she offers the most amazing and interesting flavors to choose from, and at our tasting we had a hard time deciding which combo was better! We ended up choosing an Almond Cake with Hazelnut Ganache that had our guests talking all night. Maxine graciously created this 3 tier masterpiece as a base for sugared flowers that a dear family friend made and placed on the cake after it was delivered to our venue. Her flexibility and willingness to add this personal touch to our wedding cake was deeply appreciated, and the result was a gorgeous collaboration that we are couldn't be happier with. She even made us a separate small cake to freeze for our anniversary so that we wouldn't have to worry about setting our top tier aside! Thank you, Maxine!

Better than hoped for!

Firstly, I didn’t want a cake. I can’t stand those dry white cakes with overly sweet raspberry filling I’ve so often had at weddings! So when we found Maxine we had the choice to design 2 cakes we wanted to sample. I chose carrot cake and (even though it wasn’t on her list) asked Maxine if she could do an autumn spice cake. Wouldn’t you know it, she made up the recipe for me! So that’s how this pie-lover ended up with a wedding cake.

In the end we got a 3-tier autumn spice cake with apple compote that looked like birch bark. It was delivered on time, looked great & tasted even better.

Taste: Superb. Great texture, perfect cake to cream/frosting ratio. All my guests raved about it & no one left any behind!

Appearance: amazingly realistic! Guests were leaning in trying to determine whether it was real birch bark or just artistry!

Result: Wonderful! I will recommend Maxine & her cake skills to anyone that needs them...if you want quality & artistry & many satisfied guests!

Maxine is the best!

We ordered mini apple crisp and pumpkin pies in addition to a small ceremonial cake for our wedding on October 27. Maxine was so helpful and responsive to all of my inquiries about the types and quantities of pies (even allowing for just a handful of them to be gluten free) as well as sending pictures back and forth to make sure the cake looked exactly how we hoped it would. We ordered 12 dozen cupcakes for our wedding on 11/3. Maxine was incredibly professional, helpful, and responsive. Not only that, but the cupcakes were both beautiful and marvelously delicious. Delicious cake, Flexible baker!

Maxine was super responsive from day one. She helped us pick flavors that went well together and worked around our schedule for a tasting and helped us work on the right size and style for our budget. The cake was amazing, we got a lot of compliments and I can't wait to eat it again on our anniversary! Also, she delivered the cake day of on time and worked with our coordinator and florist to put flowers on it so I could just be fulling present on my wedding day and not have to deal with it. She is amazing and you should definitely hire her!

Maxine is amazing!

Our experience with Maxine was wonderful. We don't live in the area, but Maxine helped us create our dream wedding cake regardless. She was responsive and setting up our cake tasting was a breeze. We loved every flavor we tried. The best part is, she creates the most DELICIOUS vegan cakes! My non-vegan guests were surprised to learn that such a tasty cake was vegan! We didn't even have any cake leftover!

Maxine was also very helpful. She was accommodating, despite our last minute change to the icing flavor. She also picked up flowers from our florist to have decorated on the cake!

I definitely recommend Maxine's Bittersweet Bakery!

Maxine created a gorgeous cake for our wedding! It was exactly what we had envisioned - both minimal yet stunningly elegant. All of our guests kept raving about how delicious it was. We were so happy that we could find a baker to create a lemon poppyseed cake - our favorite flavor! On the day of the wedding she arrived and spent time adding all the final floral touches in coordination with our florist. She was great to work with, and we couldn't be happier with how it turned out.

Had a wonderful experience getting my wedding cake made by Maxine! She offered many different varieties for me to sample. Had great correspondence throughout the entire process, sending pictures back and forth. She had worked with my venue multiple times I didn't have to worry about delivery and anything on the day of. Where to start but with Maxine’s unbelievably awesome cakes! She made the PERFECT cake for my husband and I’s wedding that was a real show stopper. She genuinely loves what she does and you can taste it in the masterpieces she creates. The lemon poppyseed and Rosemary honey with that sweet blackberry jam intertwined with her famous Italian buttercream was to die for. It was an absolute joy to work with Maxine. She is thoughtful, patient and her work is excellent. Maxine was a joy to work with and made us the wedding cake of our dreams! We went with coconut with blackberry preserve and buttercream frosting, it was absolutely delicious and such a hit with our guests. My husband and I couldn't wait and we already had our cake topper too!

Ooo! Our wedding cake from Maxine’s was so charming and delicious. We found her name on our venue’s vendor list. Frankly, we were not sure if we had enough money for a cake from her but some pleasant and unexpected budget shifts happened and we were able to order a cake for our wedding (6/9/18). We have no regrets about our decision, especially after searching for other bakeries. Her craftsmanship is refined and the icing and cake textures were perfection. My husband and I decided upon an older Martha Stewart cake design: a buttery yellow frosted cake base with piped festoons along the edges in a paler tonal yellow (we are not fans of the naked cake trend.) We scheduled a tasting and consultation and left knowing that Maxine would do a beautiful job and it was one more thing we could check off of our list! We couldn’t have been happier with the results. Her delivery rate is also very reasonable and she came right on time. The three tiers of lemon poppyseed cake with blackberry jam and airy buttercream were thoroughly enjoyed by us and our guests… We forgot to save ourselves a slice but maybe we’ll just have to get ourselves an anniversary cake in the future. I don't even know where to begin. From the moment we had our first consultation, to the cake tasting, to the service, to the actual final product. Maxine was the best. My husband and I had the our wedding at Fullmoon Resort in Big Indian. Our venue was perfect...and they offered a fully catered menu. However, my husband and I were not to pleased with our cake options at the venue. So we looked around for local bakers. Thank goodness I found Maxine Catering. Maxine was wonderful to work with. She accommodated us when Full Moon wouldn't store the cake in their kitchen... we did make it work... but she went up and beyond to deliver that cake to us. The Aesthetic of the cake was semi frosted... giving it a very rustic look! IT WAS AWESOME!

Now. the Cake. We chose a LEMON POPPY cake which was perfect for the summer. The cake was moist, light, and fresh. Some of My guests told me after they snuck and got more then one piece of cake.

Afterwards we were left with a good amount of cake, and my husband and I ate it till it was gone. Next Summer we will get the same cake for our anniversary. No need to Freeze OLD CAKE! Im looking forward when we order our anniversary cake!

I am so glad I chose Maxine to bake my wedding cake. When I met her the first time cake testing, she was so warm and friendly and felt she really took the time to listen to me and my ideas. She is very accommodating and very professional which I valued very much. The cake itself tasted amazing and my guests were all wanting seconds! I could never accomplish the birthday cake request that my son made, so I was fortunate to find Maxine's Catering/Bittersweet Bakers when I needed to have a 'nature cake' made. Maxine nailed it! Maxine was great! The cakes were beyond delicious, there was nothing left over! We had four different cakes (different flavors and sizes), each one more delicious than the next. Maxine delivered the cakes and decorated them with extra flowers we put aside for her! They were beautiful! Maxine was thoughtful and prompt, as well as extremely kind. Beautiful and delicious cake! Maxine listened to all of our requests. We actually ended up mixing and matching between all the different cakes we initially tasted (which she didn't mind at all) and she made us an amazing cake that had three separate flavors in each tier. ALL of our guests loved it! She worked seamlessly with our florist and the decorations ended up being exactly how we wanted it to look.

We got a small cake for the cutting ceremony and a few dozen cupcakes. Everyone loved them! I am the bride and might be biased, but I think it was the best wedding cake I've ever tasted. Maxine has a great selection of flavors and we loved them all so much that it was really difficult to decide. She was easy to communicate with and everything worked perfectly and exactly like she said. Highly recommend!

Kudos to Maxine and her unbelievable cake making skills! With cake making today, it’s common to sacrifice taste for looks and vice versa- not with Maxine! The cake was not just gorgeous, but scrumptious to boot! Maxine put together a magnificent 3 tier wedding cake for us layering a lemon cake with blueberry preserves, lemon curd, raspberry preserves and buttercream! Maxine was extremely patient with us, even going as far as decorating our cake last second with fresh flowers the day of. Communication with her was thorough- from the day we scheduled our tasting to the day the cake was delivered. Every guest could not believe how fresh and delicious the cake was. It truly was the perfect ending to a perfect night! Maxine has the eye, the skill and finesse to make any style and size cake a memorable one! Thank you again!

There aren't enough words to describe our satisfaction from working with Maxine. Maxine was just a pleasure!! From start to finish she made the process so easy for us. She was actually the first and last baker we spoke to. Very responsive throughout the early stages, lots of email exchanges, always attentive to our questions and concerns .. and the tasting just sealed the deal. I can't recommend Maxine's Bittersweet Bakers enough!! Maxine made our wedding cake which was a 3 tier naked cake with almond cake, almond buttercream icing and raspberry preserve and almond buttercream filling. Perfect combo for a summertime wedding.

Our guests are still raving about our wedding cake from Maxine's! We had a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and not only was it delicious, it was also beautiful and the greenery she added to the cake fit perfectly with our theme. Maxine was very flexible and accommodating and pleasure to work with. Many of our guests said it was the best wedding cake they ever had! We chose Maxine after an extensive search for a vendor to make our wedding cake. I had such a specific vision in my mind, and Maxine absolutely nailed it-- it was actually even more perfect than I ever could have thought possible! Maxine did a spectacular job with our wedding cake. We received many compliments on how beautiful it was and how great it tasted - a combination that sometimes can be hard to achieve. Maxine made us a four-tier wedding cake with two different flavors and two different fillings in alternating tiers -- her flavors are so good we couldn't decide on just one, so we gave our guests the option of two! And they were both amazingly good. Many guests had to try both and we had enough cake that they could. They raved about the flavors, the moistness of the cake, and the "melt-in-your-mouth" frosting. Maxine is a complete professional, collaborative, friendly, and willing to consider any idea we had in crafting the perfect cake for us. Her presentation is flawless. He delivery was on-time. Her experience and artistry is evident at every stage of the process, from the initial conversation, to the tasting, to the final product. We have used her for a birthday party, now a wedding, and will continue to turn to her whenever we need the perfect cake. There is no equal! Thank you, Maxine!

Maxine was such a pleasure to work with and her cakes were amazing! Maxine was a delight to work with -- she baked us a vegan wedding cake that was absolutely to die for - three tiers with almond cake and mocha buttercream. If you're reading these reviews, then just stop here and go book Maxine for your wedding! Maxine's cake and desserts were AMAZING at my wedding at The Kaaterskill in Catskill, NY. We ended up choosing a maple pecan cake with bavarian cream inside and a brown sugar buttercream frosting on the outside, although it was hard to choose as all the cakes at the tasting were incredible (I'm still dreaming of a slice of rosemary cake!). The cake was SO delicious and we had guests complimenting how great it was as well as how beautiful it looked. Maxine was so helpful in giving us ideas on how the outside of the cake should look, and the result was just perfect. Our florists provided flowers, and Maxine displayed them on the cake just perfectly. Not only was it gorgeous to look at, but delicious to eat.

We also had lemon bars and brownies made, which were eaten by everyone in the blink of an eye. It may have been the best brownie and lemon bar I've ever eaten!

I can't wait til our one year anniversary when I can take my cake topper out of the freezer and eat this amazing cake again!!!

I was referred to Maxine by my fabulous florist (Steven Bruce in case any of you are looking for someone) and have to say that she did not disappoint. She was able to translate my medley of ideas and inspiration into a one-of-a-kind GORGEOUS cake for my bridal shower. My bridal shower was months ago and I am still having attendees reach out to me about how beautiful and delicious the cake was. I know that I can be pretty demanding but Maxine met each request and inquiry with a smile and extreme responsiveness (what a godsend). She is a true artistic genius and your absolute go-to (especially if you are in the Hudson Valley). Needless to say, I cannot wait to see how my wedding cake will turnout! Hiring Maxine has given me once less thing to worry about as I know that my wedding cake will be in the best hands.

I highly recommend Maxine's Catering based on the wonderful experience I had. Maxine was a joy to work with and created a beautiful and delicious cake for my granddaughter's 3rd Birthday. I asked for a Cookie Monster Cake and she found a perfect image which she turned into an adorable cake. The cake and buttercream frosting delighted all. Maxines Catering/Bittersweet Bakers is the top choice! For our 3 tiered wedding cake we did half marble and half chocolate. We used buttercream for our frosting. Not only are her cakes absolutely delicious, but they are beautiful, you can tell they are made with love! I went to her looking for a custom design (i'm an artist and I had my vision drawn), for the cake- after our meeting I was sure that her vision for the cake and mine, would make the most beautiful cake ever! We had guests swarming that cake table for photos...and slices! OH and I cannot forget Maxine, herself, is a lovely woman- kind, and extremely helpful!

Maxine was very helpful , asking the right questions which directed me to what was perfect for our wedding reception. The process was easy and all details were honored. Maxine actually made two cakes, both being chocolate with chocolate frosting. The primary cake was layered and decorated with white orchids and the smaller cake was gluten and dairy free. Both cakes were beautiful and delicious.

I was organizing a baby shower with a farm theme from out of state when I discovered Maxine Catering thru the internet. From the first phone to finally meeting Maxine (she personally delivered the cake) she was very responsive and professional. The cake was an absolute masterpiece and the quality of the cake was delicious and moist. If I lived in NY I would definitely use Maxine's Catering in future events. From the start, Maxine was a pleasure to work with: professional, timely, and able to take our vision for a cake and turn it into a gorgeous reality. She also coordinated pick up of cake flowers with our florist as well as delivery with our venue seamlessly. At the tasting it was clear, she's a cake guru: as committed to the taste and texture of the cake as to the outside beauty. We ordered an almond cake with chocolate hazelnut ganache and orange buttercream frosting, and it was hands down the best cake I've ever had. Our guests raved, it fit perfectly with our rustic fall wedding, and I loved that it was a departure from the more traditional cake flavor. Thank you, Maxine! I will be back for anniversary cakes!

We loved loved loved working with Maxine! Living in New York City and planning our wedding in the catskills was a challenge. However, she made it very easy for us. We reached out to her, she was very professional and responded promptly. We set up a tasting in her home - all the options were delicious and she had great suggestions of what combinations would work best (for someone clueless about baking as I am!). She was responsive to our needs and worked with our florist to decorate our cake beautifully. Our cake turned out great!!

What we really found to be surprising is that people kept coming up to us during the wedding and telling us how delicious the cake was! I don't think I've ever paid any close attention to the wedding cake at weddings...let alone make a point to comment about it to the bride and groom. But I have to admit, it was delicious!

I would definitely recommend her!

We absolutely could not be happier with Maxine and her services! The wedding cake she made for us was truly stunning and the taste was out of this world! It's been a few weeks since our wedding now, and our guests are STILL calling us to say how amazing the cake was, and how it was the best wedding cake they had ever had! It was so moist, flavorful, and unique. We can't wait for our one year anniversary so we can eat it again!

Maxine has a wonderful and unusual list of cake flavors on her "menu", and was even willing to try out a different flavor not on her list that we requested for the tasting (although we ended up going with one on her original list). She worked with us to develop a design and flavor combo that would tie in perfectly with our venue and decor, and she even set it up on our wedding day with fresh florals and greenery and made an extra top layer to ensure that we would have one to bring home to save. The cake was everything and more that we wanted!

Maxine was very responsive over emails, friendly, and very easy to work with. We would absolutely recommend her and Bittersweet Bakers, and are planning to use her for some upcoming family parties and things just so we can eat her amazing cakes again! Yum Yum Yum!!

We absolutely loved our cake--a four-layer carrot cake with cream cheese icing--from Maxine's. It was beautiful, delicious, and the perfect size for our intimate affair.

Maxine herself was a pleasure to work with. We contacted her only a few weeks before the wedding, but she was responsive and willing to accommodate our request. We were planning the event from out of state, so she worked with us diligently via phone and email to ensure that we found something that suited our taste buds and our style. I worked with Maxine for our wedding cake and a surprise groom's cake for my guy.

Our wedding cake was a three tier honey/rosemary cake with a layer of blackberry preserve and vanilla Italian buttercream, frosted in vanilla Italian buttercream. Our guests were blown away! (If I didn't save the top tier I wouldn't have any left.) I showed her a photo of how I wanted the frosting to look and she executed flawlessly. She delivered herself and decorated with fresh flowers and a topper we provided.

The groom's cake was an add-on closer to the wedding. I asked her for a marble cake with layer of choc/hazelnut ganache (my fiance's original choice of flavor for our cake). We hike a lot, so she made the cake look like a campsite with tent and working fire pit! She delivered it in a box so he wouldn't see it and he was so happy!!!

The hardest part of working with Maxine will be figuring out which flavors to select -- everything we tried was amazing!

I'll definitely be working with Maxine again so book her quickly :)

We went to Maxine pretty unsure of what we wanted and she worked with us (very patiently!) to figure it out. We wound up getting a three tiered naked cake designed to look like birch. It was stunning! Throughout, we had total confidence that not only would the cake be delicious (it was!) but unique and beautiful too!

Maxine did an amazing job on my wedding cupcakes! She was easy to work with and had some creative flavors that really amazed us. Maxine was quick to respond and flexible when setting up a tasting. Once we had a tasting and picked our flavors (PB&J, lemon/raspberry, Chocolate/Caramel) I was confident that Maxine would deliver, and she did! Maxine is a true artist! As an amateur baker, I honestly felt bad for whomever we chose to bake our wedding cake. I am always hyper critical of cakes and was trying to have low expectations since a wedding cake is a very difficult feat. My husband and I found this delicious Lemon Mascarpone cake at a restaurant. We fell in love with the flavor profile and knew that it was perfect for our wedding. Many bakers wanted us to bring in a slice in order to replicate it. This was difficult for us seeing that we live in NJ but were having our wedding in Hudson Valley, NY which was over 2 hours away. Really a long drive to deliver a piece of cake. Maxine however was different. She asked me about the flavor and recognizing that I was a baker, we discussed the way the restaurant included all of the flavors. Right away I could tell she knew what she was doing, and I was in love! We didn't even interview another baker (which is not my style). We went to meet her at her home, and I almost lost it. Maxine lives in a very rural area....I was panicking about how she was going to manage getting my 5 tiered cake over 2 hours away on dirt roads!!! However, tasting the sample she made put me at ease, I didn't care how it got there! It tasted EXACTLY like the restaurant cake, without her ever trying it!!! I was blown away!!! I found a beautiful and very intricate cake on Pinterest. She reassured me it would be fine. We opted for 2 false tiers and 2 lemon, the top being a chocolate tier for our 1 year anniversary. THE CAKE CAME OUT PERFECT!!!!!!!! I am still in shock at how beautiful it was, I couldn't find a mistake (and trust me I looked) It wasn't crooked, no cracks in the buttercream and the flavor was outstanding. Some of my guests had 3 slices! Thank you Maxine for a stunning and delicious cake!

Maxine is a master of her craft, its as simple as that. My wife and I got married up at Plattekill Mountain on 5/3/2015, and we found Maxine about a month and a half earlier when we realized all of a sudden "HOLLY S**T! WE NEVER FOUND A WEDDING CAKE!". Maxine was extremely friendly and extremely reassuring when she heard our timetable. My wife had a couple pictures of cakes on her phone that she had found on Pinterest(?) and asked Maxine if it would be possible to put the pieces together to make one cake. Her answer was, "Of Course!", followed by "When can you guys come up to taste/discuss?".

We ended up going with a Lemon/Poppy Seed cake that had a Strawberry filling, and buttercream icing. IT WAS AMAZING!!!! And the finished product (which we didn't see until the day of the wedding) was enough to bring my bride-to-be to tears of joy when I sent her a picture of it!

Our day would not have been what is was if we hadn't found Maxine, and hadn't had the beautiful cake I am posting pictures of. Our guests ate the whole thing, we had no left overs, and one of our guests ate so many slices of cake that the servers knew his name by the end of the night!!!

Our experience with Bittersweet Bakers was absolutely perfect from beginning to end. We went into this as total novices, and Maxine took exceptional care of us. She was extremely patient and helpful as we narrowed down the flavor, filling and icing for our cake. Bittersweet Bakers offers unique flavors and combos that we hadn't seen elsewhere. She made several samples for us to try and helped us come to a decision by offering feedback but not in an overbearing way. She brought the cake to our venue, liaised with the staff there and set it up completely on her own--let me tell you, having this totally handled and one less thing to think about on your wedding day is a dream come true. The cake was stunning and delicious--we got rave reviews from everyone. One of my friends had three pieces!

This is all a long way of saying we'd choose Bittersweet Bakers 10 times out of 10--our experience was phenomenal!

Maxine was recommended to us by our caterer and she did not disappoint! We asked for a unique wedding cake (a 6-layer rainbow cake) which Maxine had never made previously. She did a small sample for us and we knew she would be able to pull it off. And pull it off she did! The cake was beautiful and elegant on the outside - and a brilliant and perfect rainbow on the inside! Everyone loved the element of surprise and of course it tasted fantastic. I originally thought I wanted a more unique flavor for the cake, but Maxine smartly suggested that we keep the flavors simple, as the rainbow colors might confuse people's taste buds. She was completely right and the vanilla was simple but very flavorful. It was exactly what we wanted! She also made some pies and gluten free cupcakes for us, which were all a hit. She was very professional the whole way through the process and I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a baker in the Hudson Valley. She's fantastic and a pleasure to work with!

Short, but certainly sweet: Maxine was extremely responsive and professional, a true pleasure to work with. Our wedding cake was insanely good, from the few bites I got to have of it! It was moist, so chocolaty and amazing, and people were absolutely raving about it all night. We had a pool party the next day, and the leftover cake was gone within about ten minutes of us setting it out. We chose a very simple buttercream decor for the cake, and it was exactly what we wanted. The buttercream was not very sweet at all, which we loved, but opt for a different option if you like a sweeter frosting. Highly recommended!

Maxine was amazing! I highly recommend using her/Bittersweet bakers for your wedding or event.Our cake was delicious and beautiful, plus Maxine made several other side desserts that were incredible, including dairy and gluten free brownies. I had a clear idea of the cake flavor I wanted for my wedding (rosemary honey). However, I had problems finding someone to execute my vision. I emailed Maxine and she was happy to test out the flavor and make the cake I wanted. After some tinkering and research she made an amazing cake! She made it exactly like I wanted it, used real ivy, and my guests raved about it! She was amazingly flexible and helpful in the whole process, I highly reccomend to all couples, especially those who are looking for something custom.

We absolutely loved working with Maxine. She was so accommodating and open to our ideas - some of which strayed from the traditional. Extremely easy to work with - you will feel like you've known her for awhile after just sitting with her for your tasting (in her awesome kitchen, by the way!) Aside from her professionalism and easygoing nature she is one heck of a baker. We had a wedding cake, pies and chocolate hazelnut tarts. If our caterer hadn't saved us some there would have been nothing left. Our guests were raving about how delicious the desserts were in the weeks following our wedding. Since there was no wedding cake to freeze we will definitely be calling Maxine for an anniversary cake in a year!!!

Maxine's wedding cake was absolutely delicious! We did not want the standard sugary wedding cake. We asked Maxine to make us a strawberry shortcake that wasn't too sweet and that's exactly what she gave us! The fresh strawberries and custard filling was perfect. Everyone said how good the cake was. I would highly recommend Maxine, she was very easy to work with and makes a delicious cake!!
