Amazing studio!

Jill's studio is a serious dream! I had such a fun time visiting the studio and looking around at her work. Jill has fantastic taste and vision, and on top of all of that, she and her staff are delightful to work with.

A real fairy godmother

I’m so glad I chose to work with Jill for my custom wedding dress. I can’t imagine having worn anything other than the dress she made, which was so detailed and personal. Jill is kind, warm, and welcoming. She asked thoughtful questions about what I wanted and listened thoughtfully, even when I wasn’t quite sure myself. She helped me articulate my dream dress: I said I wanted to feel like myself, and to be able to move freely. Jill saw my vision and delivered so perfectly, almost as if she anticipated my needs before I even knew them. At my fittings, Jill made me feel like I was at home. She is knowledgeable and body inclusive. She knew the shapes and structures that would best complement my body and made adjustments to ensure that I was always comfortable in the corset. In fact, I was so comfortable that I still wish I could wear my dress every day! It was the first garment I’ve ever worn that I felt truly fit me. Jill’s studio has a magical atmosphere, and she is the fairy godmother to match. She goes above and beyond for her clients and I am so thankful for the careful, loving work that she put into my dress. Because of Jill, I felt beautiful and confident at my wedding, and every bride deserves that.

Best seamstress!

Jill was amazing! Had a very rush wedding dress alteration needed and she was so sweet and helpful. Did the work in a week, that other seamstress I tried prior said could not be done at all. Made the dress just how I had dreamed it would be, which made my wedding!!!! Totally reccomend!!!

My Dream Dress

Jill created a magnificent, one-of-a-kind dream dress for me for a fashion gala. I've never had a designer that got my style so perfectly! She married my love for vintage with some drama to make this timeless dress out of vintage silk. The dress was stunning and fit like a dream! Dress Dreams Came to Life

Jill is truly a visionary and fairy god mother of wedding gowns. From start to finish, you could tell she genuinely loved the process of bringing my gown to life. She put her whole heart into each stitch and piece. The day of the wedding I was blown away to see all my dreams coming to life. She took my incoherent ideas and made my dream dress. She has unbelievable knowledge, skill and vision. I really cannot thank her enough for all her hard work and unbelievable talent! Breathtaking artistry

I dreamed of wearing my grandmother's wedding dress from the 1950s, but didn't know if it would be possible. My mother had tried to wear it at her wedding, and was told it was impossible to restore.

I was delighted to discover that Jill could not only beautifully restore it, but also adjust it to fit me better than anything I've ever worn. I expected the dress to be beautiful, but the end result blew me away- it was breathtaking.

Jill is an incredible artist who also happens to be extremely down to earth and easy to work with. I can't recommend her highly enough!

Jill was an absolute pleasure to work with! She so beautifully made my dress fit my body and I was able to confidently and comfortably move throughout the day. Couture-level service by your newest friend!

I cannot thank Jill enough for taking my gown and making it allll mine! Jill was a dream to work with, as she is truly an expert.

From the second I first stepped into her shop, I was treated to a highly personal experience that was more like having a dear girlfriend do a makeover than anything I’d dreamt a gown alteration would be like. Jill listened to what our event would be like, looked at photos, and had her own ideas for how to make my dress the right scale in addition to the right fit. Never has the phrase “decreasing radiuses” caused me so many giggles. Everything she suggested, I trusted, and she was SPOT. ON.

My dress had delicate beadwork and lace throughout, and she had to hand re-stitch and relay every last place she adjusted. When all was done, you never would have known she practically took it apart.

Jill went the extra mile at every step, and made me feel confident and ready to wear my dress, rather than ever worrying that it would wear me!

Months after my wedding, I still enjoy checking in with her. If you are looking for a true artist who will make you laugh and give you celeb-worthy results, look no further!

'Older Bride - Young Attitude' finds perfect dress !

Can't say enough enough things about Jill Andrews Gowns! I was unable to find a wedding dress that was made for an older bride ... nothing I looked at/tried on felt like me...and I did not want a mother-of-the-bride dress. I didn't want a white dress...I wanted something in blue, and more "me". So, Jill and Jennifertothe rescue! At our first meeting, Jill asked me what I was looking for...so, I launched into my perfect dress list: Blue, with a bateau neckline, sleeves - 3/4 or bracelet length, something fun or flouncy for the dance floor, but elegant- because it is my wedding and I want to look like the Bride - not the mother of the bride! , and knee length....etc... All the while Jill was sketching away -when I stopped to take a breath - she said..."so you want something like this" and she had sketched EXACTLY what I was looking for. Jennifer meanwhile went some fabric swatches and we found the perfect fabric (blue/gold doubled faced taffeta) - Jill brought over a length of the most beautiful blue lace I had ever seen...and just like that - my perfect dress was underway! I almost cried with joy !

Dream Team!

I bought my wedding dress from BHLDN but it required alterations. I took my dress to Jill and Jennifer and they took it and made it one of a kind. I went to Jill Andrews Gowns for alterations on a gown I bought elsewhere, which was ordered a size smaller than it was supposed to be. The moment you walk into the spacious, airy studio, you absolutely know that you will be taken care of. Jill and Jennifer are highly knowledgeable, no-nonsense, super cool women, and both are obviously passionate about their craft. They were great at explaining challenges with my gown and their process for problem-solving. I felt like I could ask questions without any judgement, and like I could trust their suggestions completely. Every detail was thoroughly attended to, down to Jill slipping a bag with Ibuprofen in with my shoes, to remind me to take them so my feet wouldn’t hurt. When it was finished, my gown fit like a glove, and I never wanted to take it off (I would literally wear it everywhere if society didn’t have this weird stigma around women wearing their wedding dresses while grocery shopping). I cannot recommend Jill Andrews Gowns enough.

The Absolute Best in Baltimore

Jill and Jennifer are absolutely AMAZING! I had bought a used dress which was a few sizes too big, had weird ribbon sewn onto it and a train I didn't like. I come to them with a month before my wedding and they were able to make this the dress of my dreams! I didn't think that anyone could fix my dress that quickly, but they did. The final product was perfect. You could not see where they had taken the ribbon off, and they were able to make me a shrug out of the train material. Every time I went into their shop, they were welcoming and very helpful. I never had to wait for service.
I don't know anything about fashion, and they were able to give me advise about what what would look best. They also were able to talk me through what I should do with my hair and my shoes. They also had the bra which worked with the dress.
If I know of anyone who needs a wedding dress alteration, I will definitely send them their way!

Flawless alterations

I was referred to Jill by a friend when I was in a pinch to find someone locally for my wedding dress alterations. The backstory is that my family's tailor in Philly unexpectedly retired (he did alterations for me 15+ years) and I needed someone here who I could trust (key word!) to do the work with precision. My friend's wedding dress was intricate and I was aware of the attention to detail given to her gown... so that was enough for me to reach out to the studio. I initially communicated with Jennifer, who was extremely pleasant and helped me schedule an appointment that fit my work schedule. I came to the studio (which is adorable by the way!) with a small list of alterations that I already knew needed to be done, but I also asked Jill and Jennifer to be honest with me about anything else the dress required. They both made me feel comfortable right away, provided an explanation for each alteration, and demonstrated the quality of their work. They also made me feel confident that the alterations would be long-lasting. The cost was what I expected to pay and I had factored that in when choosing my dress originally (this is a must - don't forget that part in your budget). At a later fitting, Jill was also able to take out a layer of fabric from the skirt of my dress to make it feel lighter/airy, since my wedding was the end of August (hot!). She and Jennifer even made an itchy piece of fabric become un-itchy. Like magic :-) On the wedding day, I felt absolutely fabulous in my dress. I could sit, stand, squat, walk, dance for hours, hug people, and twirl around without any concerns - and I think that really tells you something about Jill's and Jennifer's skills. If you're looking for meticulous technique and expertise, these gals are for you!

I restyled my mother's wedding gown from 1992 for my 2018 wedding. Jill & Jen are amazing artists who saw the end product. They deconstructed my mother's dress and reconstructed it to fit my style. I was also able to wear her veil! The fittings were so much fun and it was sad leaving the final one! It was terrifying leaving my mother's dress there and knowing it was going to be cut up but we had a great feeling. The final product was absolutely beautiful & perfect! If you have a similar project in mind you can trust them to make your ideas reality!

I can not say enough about Jill! Not only is she professional and friendly her skill set is beyond what I could've hoped for. I worse my grandmother's wedding dress on my wedding day. The dress was originally made in 1947 and then worn again by my Aunt in the 1980s. Jill was able to restore it to the original after my Aunt added some 80s flare. The dress turned out to be the most talked about part of the wedding. I've never had so many compliments paid my direction!!! Jill and her staff met with me for multiple fittings. They were easy to reach and always one step ahead to make sure the dress would be a success! I can't thank her enough :). Highly highly highly recommend!!!

Working with Jill and the Jill Andrews Gowns team was an exceptional experience. I really had no idea what kind of wedding dress I wanted, only that I hadn't seen anything that was just right. Looking back, Jill really guided me to exactly what I wanted, while providing recommendations and advice on what would look best on me. I received so many compliments on the dress and how perfectly it was made for me and my wedding.

While my dress was simple, the detail and execution were not easy but ended up perfectly- from custom fresh water pearl buttons to match the natural Mexican setting, to breezy spaghetti straps that never fell down, to the perfectly pleated belt that was flattering and the perfect detail. The elegant slit over my right leg that Jill suggested also made the dress easy to walk in and added just enough sex appeal.

For the longest time I really thought I wasn't going to find the perfect dress, so I'm so thankful to Jill Andrews Gowns for creating the perfect custom dress for me that I'll forever love.

The ladies at Jill Andrews were a LIFE SAVER. I received my gown much later than promised. Most other places that I assessed for alterations turned me away or became extremely anxious about the timeline. The ladies at Jill Andrews just made it happen, and went above and beyond to add additional touches. They are pricey, but worth it because you can be sure they will get the job done and do it well. They also genuinely care about the work they do!

As an older bride, I was looking for something quite different and there was nothing in ready made that even came close. We were having a Christmas wedding and I wanted a piece of antique white fur incorporated into the neckline of the dress. And I wanted a hint of color. Working with Jill and Jennifer was awesome. They took my basic ideas and made them into a beautiful reality. This hidden gem of Baltimore is the find of the century! I'm just waiting to see them featured on Oprah and I can say I knew them before they became an international sensation...

I absolutely love this place! I went to Jill for my wedding dress alterations. My dress needed a lot of work, mainly with lace panels. It was very detailed and complicated work but they executed it perfectly. Every concern or worry I had was addressed promptly and I was immediately put at ease. The whole team always made me feel cared about and right at home. Every session was intimate and they took as much time as needed to address everything and get things done correctly (but gave themselves plenty of time to get the dress back to me before my wedding). I never felt worried about not getting the dress back on time, and they even cleaned and pressed it for me before my wedding! I was extremely impressed with their skill and by the end of my visits I felt as if I was part of their family. I really can't say enough good things about Jill and her team. If you're looking for the best, this is where to go!!

Jill made my ensemble incredible and my time with her studio was a valuable experience as a bride (and someone who loves clothes)! From our first meeting to discuss what I wanted, I knew Jill just got it. Details I was hesitant to ask for, thinking they may be a challenge, were completed effortlessly. Jill made me an amazing, dramatic satin overcoat (I married in the winter), fixed my existing wedding gown just to my liking and fit, and even attached a piece to my hat so it would sit on my head just right.
If I ever have an event again where I can wear something this regal, I'm heading straight back to Jill! She has the vision, technique, and professionalism that gave me everything I wanted. And I had fun the entire time. Thank you, Jill!

Jill, Jennifer, Leitner, and everyone at Jill Andrews studio are amazing! I came in with an extremely intricate gown with only about 3 weeks time turnaround and they did magic! Not only were they helpful and super friendly throughout the entire process, but they listened to any concerns I had and made sure they were addressed in full. I had some feedback about the fit and emailed Jennifer, and with no hesitation, she immediately coordinated to meet with me after hours to make sure my dress fit perfectly. I could not have been happier with the final product - they are miracle workers.

What can I say, this experience was nothing short of amazing! I was on the hunt for a bridal dress and tried everything from a lace slip dress by Free People, to scoping out dresses amongst the masses at the scary David's Bridal, to trekking to Georgetown to the J. Crew Bridal only to be unimpressed, and finally stopping by Francesca's Bridal in Baltimore. Despite seeing several dresses I liked, I knew I wanted to have mine made. My mother is an avid reader of The Washington Post and had seen an article about Jill and her involvement with a Johns Hopkins team redesigning Ebola suits. I realized that her atelier is located in Hampden just a few minutes from where I live. I contacted her team prior to beginning my search and they let me know the price range and options. I decided to keep looking but ultimately reached out again months later and scheduled an appointment. As soon as I walked through the door I knew it would be a great endeavor. Jill is just the most lovely woman and despite creating intricate, complex, elegant, and stunning dresses was not at all snobbish or intimidating but accessible and spot on with my vision of the gown. She drew a sketch and that was that! Every little detail was incorporated, for the most part on that first day, with neat additions later on during the process. She is such a pro that she guessed by sight my measurements at my first fitting. There were a few tragic, unforeseen events which meant changing appointments, but I was so impressed with Jill's utter dedication to her clients. The JAG team was always focused on the final product and their continued expert pacing. I couldn't have asked for a better experience when working with Jill and Sarah. They also do mix + match separates, fascinators, and alterations. The price of a Jill Andrews couture gown is SO worth the service, overall experience and final product!

I contacted Jill after my wedding gown was badly damaged by another local seamstress. From the beginning, she was friendly, knowledgeable, and very professional. (As was Mia, Jill's assistant.) Their studio looks like something out of a movie or a fairy tale, full of beautiful fabric, dress forms modeling Jill's fantastic creations, mirrors, antique furniture (to match their wonderful historic building), and about a million sewing machines.

Jill was very reassuring about repairing my dress, which was especially important to me since I'd had such a bad experience previously. I never doubted her capabilities, and was continually impressed with how meticulous she was, catching details that even I had overlooked. She treated my silk dress very gently, and did her best to undo the damage that had been done. She asked lots of questions and took notes during the initial consultation, and took even more measurements and notes at our second appointment.

By the third appointment, the dress was nearly complete and everything had been done beautifully! She only had another hour of work left on it, so offered to drop it off at my home when it was finished. Above and beyond!

The quality of Jill's work is amazing. She took the back of my dress, which was cut up and fraying, and put in a gorgeous corset back. She even reinforced the seams to be extra sure everything would lace evenly and hold up under stress. Jill also removed yards of unevenly sewn tulle--which I'm sure took a very gentle touch--and replaced it with properly gathered and sewn tulle. When she was done, my dress looked even better than when I'd bought it.

So basically, whether you've got a damaged dress, a vintage dress in need of alterations, or an imaginary dress you've been dreaming of your whole life, Jill's your gal! Jill saved my wedding dress when I'd given up hope on it, and I am so thankful that she was a part of one of the most important days of my life.

My Jill Andrews wedding gown was probably the most complimented aspect of our entire wedding, and for good reason. I live close to the studio, so when I got engaged, I knew I'd want to stop in. I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to afford a custom gown, but I thought I'd look into it anyway. I am soooo glad I did. I had been dress shopping in a few other boutiques. The dresses were pretty, but none made me feel special in any way. I didn't need to cry and know instantly that I had found THE dress, but I did want to feel good. The minute I stepped in to JAG studios, I knew I had come to the right place. It's so adorable inside, and Mia and Jill are so kind. And they really know what they're doing. I ended up trying on pieces of the Studio line. When I got to the Iron Heart top and 16 Tons skirt, I couldn't stop smiling. I didn't want to take the dress off. I just kept twirling and laughing. The dress was beautiful, and it made me feel like a princess and a rock star all at the same time. They also have an incredible selection of gorgeous accessories to choose from. I wanted the dress in pink, and Jill was happy to make that happen. I didn't think I could feel any more wonderful than I did when I first tried the dress on, but I was wrong. When I went to try on MY dress, in the fabric I chose made to my measurements, I was elated. It was more perfect than I could have ever imagined. On the day of my wedding, I had so much fun just wearing the dress. It was comfortable and light despite the amount of fabric. I was able to dance for the entire night without being uncomfortable or hot. It made me feel more beautiful and fabulous than a clothing item has ever made me feel. And once again, I didn't want to take it off. I had that dress on until the early morning hours. And bonus, since it's in two pieces, I can keep wearing the bodice out and about. I'll probably put the skirt on whenever I get the opportunity as well. I just want to keep wearing it always.

Where do I even begin?! My experience with Jill Andrews was really a dream come true.
I had searched for quite some time for the dress, but could not find exactly what I was looking for. I met with Jill, showed her a few photos, and felt she immediately understood me. She and Mia patiently helped me find the right fabric, and allowed me to come in for several meetings to try out different options. The finished product was incredible, unique, and exactly what I asked for. Jill captured the mix of Hollywood glam and 1930s style that I had envisioned. She had every detail covered, down to the undergarments. Such a pro. She even altered my mother's veil and whipped up a pair of earrings at my request just days before the wedding!
Most importantly, and something that no amount of money can buy, is the peace of mind I felt throughout the process. I knew I was in good hands, and that kind of confidence is priceless during all of the stress of planning a wedding. Jill and Mia were prompt with their communication, and while I know they have hundreds of other clients, I always felt like I was the only one. I loved my studio visits and already am missing them!

Jill made a lace ballgown for my spring wedding. The dress was absolutely flawless. Her workmanship is spectacular. She worked with me to realize every detail. She hand picked the lace from France. I love Kate Middleton and she found the exact lace from her dress.

As the dress was couture it was custom made to my figure and incredibly flattering! Her corsets are amazing We had several fittings so that she could get everything perfect. It could not have fit better. We even added one the week before the wedding to take it in.

As much as I loved the dress I also loved spending time with Jill. Her studio is every girl's dream! I will be sad not seeing her as much. You can tell how much she loves her dresses and what she does. I trusted her implicitly throughout the process. I cannot recommend her enough!

The expense is nothing compared to the craftsmanship you are receiving and the one on one and unlimited fittings. I love Jill Andrews!

I brought in a dress that I found at Savers (thrift store) for $30. The material was beautiful, but it fit me like a potato sack. Jill and her team deconstructed the dress and gave me, essentially, a custom gown made for my body. Everybody loved the dress (as did I!). I was on a tight timeline and, for a reasonable fee, they rushed the work and had it completed for me, and perfect for me, in plenty of time.

I had a wonderful experience in creating a dress that is exactly what I wanted and like nothing anyone else has. Jill and her staff listened carefully to what I wanted and made suggestions for design, fabric and color. I didn't want white as this was for an anniversary and I wanted to be able to dance in it both at the event and in the future. I had a corset bodice and two skirts made to match it. Jill even made one of the skirts reversible so that I have three outfits. This gives me a lot of versatility. I couldn't have been happier with the experience.

After spending several months searching for a fashionable dress for my daughter's wedding, I finally called Jill Andrew (which I should have done in the first place). I had admired Jill's unique gowns from afar, usually from my car as I drove by her salon. I can't begin to express my delight and satisfaction with the gown Jill created for me. I can't tell you what an amazing experience Jill Andrews Gowns provided for me! I had a vision of what my dream wedding dress was, and the outcome was even better! I didn't have the budget to get a 'fully' custom dress, though I had something pretty specific in mind. So I brought Jill a dress that I bought- from a standard bridal shop- to see if she could turn it into what I had envisioned. Jill and her team not only re-did the bodice of the dress to be exactly what I'd hoped for, they added beautiful details to tie the whole piece together! They were also extremely flexible, which is so helpful to a bride! I work in DC, so they'd stay open later than usual for my fittings and the pick up! All in all -awesome experience!!

The team at Jill Andrews was incredible! I worked with them to alter my wedding dress and it turned out beautifully. I bought my dress off the rack and it was about 4 sizes too big. They had to do a lot of work to reconstruct the top of the dress and the end result was perfect. They are a fun, creative bunch and it's nice to be around people who care so much about their craft. I hate to shop. So my trip to Jill Andrews was pretty much on a lark just to see. I wanted pants and some kind of jacket for two sons' weddings about 2 months apart.

I was only half joking when I suggested the jacket be reversible so it wouldn't be the same in two sets of pictures.

Without missing a beat, Jill suggested not reversible but a separate collar that would be removed after the first wedding and replaced with a different one for the second. Genius!

Within that first hour and half visit, Jill sketched out a design I loved and we picked fabric. Jill and Sara worked up a quote which was not nearly as high as I might have expected!

And the whole process--from initial conversation to delivery--took much less time than I ever would have expected.

I did recommend them to the mother of the second bride and she ALSO had a dress made there.

Fittings were really fun. They even helped me pick the song I'd dance with my son. Just a couple of seconds of Guns and Roses, Sweet Child of Mine, tacked on something else. Definitely unconventional but considering my family, it was perfect!

In particular I love how the pants fit. I'm on track to get another pair made just to have a perfect pair of black pants.

Oh yes, what I liked the best? I am a large woman and the outfit did not make me look like a model for some Tent Maker. I was trilled!

Every woman should know the feeling of having a dress lovingly created just for her. I had very little idea of what I wanted when I walked into Jill Andrews Gowns. I just knew that I didn't want a "wedding dress". I had originally purchased a short, lace dress off the rack at Urban Outfitters, but decided that something a bit more special was in order. By the time I left our first meeting, Jill had sketched an elegant, 30s-inspired dress influenced by The Great Gatsby (which was set near our venue). Jill and Sara found a piece of pink lace with gold thread that was perfect, timeless and a bit unconventional.

My friends came with me to their gorgeous space for each dress fitting. We talked about the dress and everything else, from boys to travel to food. My meetings with Jill and Sara were totally stress-free and delightful, bright spots amidst the chaos of wedding planning. It was a wonderful collaboration. They kept in touch with me throughout the entire process, even texting me photos of the buttons they'd chosen for the dress.

I felt both beautiful and comfortable the day of my wedding. Most importantly, I felt like me. Or at least a slightly fancier version of me. Working with Jill and Sara was a rewarding and special experience. And I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful dress.

With 3 weeks left until my wedding and having seen not ONE veil on earth I would wear, a friend referred me to Jill Andrews Gowns. Jill and Sara were a joy to work with! They were incredibly knowledgable and skilled, but also fun and down to earth. I loved laughing with them about crazy wedding stories while getting my dress altered. They took my sample gown and made it four sizes smaller, giving it a custom look. They also consulted on my headpiece, ultimately snipping off a piece of beaded trim from one of their projects for me to weave into my hair. I wish I could get married all over again, and have them make me a custom gown.

Jill and Sara are a great team. They were incredible throughout the whole process. Starting with the first fitting in August and up to the day I picked up my dress in September. Sara was very responsive by phone. I would suggest calling rather than email. Sara and Jill listened to my concerns about my dress. I ordered my dress from a shop in Delaware and they ordered me a dress way to big. I brought my dress to them and they did an amazing job. Sara took in over 8 inches, hem the dress, added detachable straps, and more. Really what did they not do, they are able to do anything you need done. I cannot thank them enough. The dress looked great. I went for one of my fitting; both Jill and Sara spend over an hour with me. They were able to take in the dress without changing the dress. You don't get this type of treatment at a bridal shop like David’s bridal. I would suggest this great team to anyone looking for alternations or looking to have a wedding dress made.

I purchased a dress from someone who had gotten a David's Bridal dress but didn't need it. It ended up being many sizes too big so I needed it altered. I remembered that Jill and Sara do alterations. They are literally AMAZING! My dress fit perfectly after it was completed! They didn't try to convince me to get things that I didn't need and they also created a beautiful shawl to accompany my halter style dress (for the church). They are so welcoming and friendly! I felt like we are now old friends. I told them I am going to create events so I can get dresses made by them in the future! If you need alterations, you MUST go to Jill and Sara. If you can afford it, PLEASE get them to create your gown! They are awesome!

Jill and Sara, the dynamic duo, have been AMAZING throughout the whole process so far. My first dress fitting is coming up in April and they have been very responsive, provided great feedback on shoes/accessories, and they really take the time to understand your vision. They have worked with me living out of town very well and are extremely accommodating. They are creating the dress of my dreams and incorporating parts of my mom's veil in the design - a perfect combination that you can't find at David's Bridal! They are worth every penny and MORE!!

The dress turned out beautifully and Jill and Sara worked with me every step of the way to make it my perfect dress and day! It was so well made and so unique in every way - exactly what I wanted. Words don't express how awesomely amazing these gals are! They even made my mom's suit for the wedding which was gorgeous. My mom hasn't worn a skirt in 20 years, and this suit made her sing so much, we were able to convince her to wear the skirt.

Jill and Sara of Jill Andrews Gowns were fantastic. They worked within my timeline, schedule and budget, were responsive and creative, and delivered a fantastic product for which I continue to receive compliments (the photos just keep on giving). Jill conceptualized the gown based on the wedding dresses I identified as liking, but added her own creative touches to make it truly an original. Not only did the wedding dress look great, but it fit like a glove and was comfortable the entire 10 hours I was in it - walking, sitting, standing or dancing.

Not only do they create a great product, but Jill and Sara are also super fun to work with! Several of my female friends were involved in the dress search from the beginning knew how uncomfortable I was with the dress finding process. While I had a few good salesperson experiences (and some bad) during the initial shopping before finding Jill Andrews Gowns, I still did not enjoy myself. Jill and Sara made the wedding dress making process enjoyable and relaxed, and I looked forward to my visits with them. In addition, my friends always jumped at the opportunity join me on visits to Baltimore (we live in Alexandria / Arlington) to hang out with Jill and Sara and contribute their opinions about the creative process.

In addition to making my dress, they also helped get my then-fiancé in to a custom-made three piece suit that aligned with our wedding setting and colors (the back of the vest was a rust-orange color that perfectly complimented our fall wedding colors of purple and burnt sienna). In addition, they made my now husband - not the most exuberant of wedding participants from a planning perspective - very comfortable and relaxed.

I would definitely hire Jill Andrews Gowns again; not only because they bring creative genius, but also because I also now count them as friends!

Having my wedding dress custom designed was probably the funnest and most exciting part of the wedding planning experience! First they ask for your ideas, then a sketched design is produced, then material selection and work up - It was such a Hollywood experience to have a dress tailored to you, your body, your personality from start to finish. Jill and Sara were so supportive if I wanted to add something, take away something, change something...and the dress fit like a glove as they made adjustments along the way to accentuate my best attributes. They are a blast to work with and their hearts really go into their creative work - it was amazing. I recommend having your last fitting and walking away with the dress at that time with no changes - bring the exact bra, hose or undergarments, shoes so you can see how everything looks before you leave and Jill and Sara can make any adjustments you need before you walk away for the big day! Enjoy the inventive, creative and inspirational process of having your dress custom designed by two of the loveliest, creative, talented women I've met - the female love and power of working with them and the end result was priceless!

I was looking for a dress that was beautifully-made, refined and not too 'bride-like' but that was also in my budget (which was in the lowest tier for most of the bridal boutiques I went to). Not expecting to be able to afford a custom dress, I contacted Jill and Sara anyway, just to see ... and I couldn't have made a better decision. Not only were they willing to work in my budget, Jill took the scattering of images and ideas I brought and sketched a dress that was exactly what I had envisioned. Over the next few months, the dress improved beyond the sketch and was even better than what I had envisioned! At every consultation and fitting they were helpful, fun and very professional.

It sounds cheesy, but the final fitting was almost magical -- to see the dress finished and all of the beautiful details (including the gorgeous vintage brooch they lent me for the day) made everything seem finally real.

At the wedding, almost every guest came up to tell me how beautiful the dress was, how well it fit, and how it was so perfectly 'me' -- and that's something I would have never heard with a different dress. More importantly though, I felt absolutely amazing!

I cannot recommend them highly enough -- best wedding-related decision I made (aside from saying yes!)

Jill Andrews did not make my wedding dress, but she did make my mom's dress. My mom turned 60 a week before my wedding and after going to many stores was not happy with the selection of MOB dresses. She did not want to look 60. Jill Andrews made a beautiful dress for her and she felt amazing in it. I went with her a few times to her appointments and Jill and Sara were always a good time. They really listened to what my mom wanted and were able to create a gorgeous dress that made her feel as special as she is to me.

I bought a stunning Carolina Herrera couture gown online. It had been worn once and had only had a bustle added to it. It was perfect. I was working with a different dress maker to make some alterations and she was one cut away from destroying the dress. She was going to split it down the middle and add a completely different kind of fabric because she said she could not close it. We liberated my dress 8 weeks before the wedding. I called Jill and Sara in a panic and they assured me they would get it finished for me. They were swamped and could not start it until 3 weeks before the wedding. In the end, it was flawless. They made a custom corset and jacket for me. The dress closed beautifully. It was a perfect dress for a perfect day... and I am forever indebted to Jill and Sara. They are simply amazing!!!! They not only saved my wedding dress from doom, they charged me less than the original dress maker quoted. Talented, professional, fair, responsive... and fun. That should be a rating... they get 5 stars for FUN!

Jill Andrews Gowns is the most fantastic place to have a gown custom made! Jill and Sara are so great to work with. I brought in a series of inspiration photos to Jill Andrews. After viewing the pictures, she said "Stop, stop stop! I've got it!" and she proceeded to sketch out the perfect gown for me.

Throughout the process, Jill and Sara were so great to work with. If it's possible, I think they were as excited about my gown as I was. The most incredible thing about working with Jill and Sara was experiencing the design process. You really "get to know" your gown, because you see it in every stage. I really enjoyed watching it evolve from corset and muslin mock-up to a gorgeous completed gown. It was really cool to have many aspects of the gown designed while I was in it:)

My gown was more beautiful than I could have imagined, and I received SO many compliments on the day of the wedding. I heard things like "wedding gown of the century."

Every aspect of my gown was perfection - the fabric (AMAZING silk recommended by Jill that was woven specifically for my gown in Italy), the phenomenal corset and underskirt that were painstakingly crafted by Jill to fit my body perfectly (you will never find this kind of fit from a mass-produced gown, even with alterations), the gorgeous Swarovski crystal buttons that went up the back of the gown, the unique yet classic design that will look great in photos years from now, the elastic woven into the spaghetti strap so I could raise my arms and dance without fear of it breaking. I could go on forever!

Jill Andrews Gowns is the place to go if you're looking for a true couturier. My gown was a genuine haute couture creation that exists nowhere else. It is a stunning example of Jill's design talent and artistry.

I would HIGHLY recommend working Jill and Sara - you will be so happy you did!

Jill and Sarah were such a pleasure to work with. They are two fun, yet professional women who always made me feel at home. When I first met to speak with them about possibly getting my dress custom made, they were receptive to my ideas. It quickly became apparent that they were the ladies for the job. Not only did they "get" me and my offbeat tastes, they seemed inspired by them and ran with it. I felt absolutely confident letting them design the dress of my dreams. I don't consider myself difficult to please but when it came to wedding dress shopping, it was much harder than I thought it would be. You have to love the dress so that you can be excited about the whole day, and I just wasn't loving anything. I went into Jill Andrews hoping to have them reproduce a look I had seen in a magazine and instead we reviewed what I loved about some of the gowns I had tried on, and what I didn't love. They talked to me about my taste in general and got to know me to get a sense of what kind of dress might fit my personality. A few weeks later they had designed an original that was exactly what I wanted and could not find. As good designers, they show you what you asked for AND what you didn't know what possible. The fact that the dress was then built to fit my body made it even cooler. With a custom dress, not just the fit but all the lines and layers, the entire silhouette is designed around your body. Which means super flattering. Plus which, the entire process was really fun. You get to see the dress in several stages and the shop is a great relaxing space to visit in the corner of a beautiful old building. On the big day, I got compliment after compliment on the dress.

these are two of the most talented women I have ever met! My gown looked even better than the designer version and it fit perfectly...like it was made for my body...because it was!!! Not only are they talented, they are incredibly charming and oh so helpful...they made my dream dress a reality and eased all of my worries in the process...its hard to find people that can make a dress without it looking kind of homemade and this was not the case at all...this dress was elegant and gorgeous but very well constructed...

Jill and Sara did a wonderful job tailoring my J Crew dress. Through their pristine and skillful tailoring, they were able to make a pretty simple, off the rack dress feel like a one-of-a-kind couture gown. In addition to great tailoring, they added a couple extra little details (a beautiful belt made from extra dress fabric, a sewn in bustier) that made the dress and the tailoring experience feel like it was really custom to me and my personality.

It struck me that Jill's lengthy experience as a theater costume designer, creating garments for all sorts of time periods, body shapes, styles and themes, made her an adroit designer, capable of working with any woman's personal style.

PLUS, they're fun to spend time with and their work space is beautiful! All of this might make you worry for your already wedding-burdened wallet, but I found their prices completely reasonable for the amount of thought and labor they invested. I've already recommended them to other friends and will continue to keep on recommending them.

Jill Andrews designed my wedding dress and it was a fabulous experience. I brought several ideas to share with her for our first meeting and she guided me to pick one (the right one) and then she ran with it. When we received the pearls that she hand strung for my dress straps and they weren't the color I was expecting, Jill dyed them to be the exact color that I wanted. She was very responsive throughout the whole process and the end result was amazing. The dress ended up being even more beautiful than what I had envisioned. Thank you Jill!

I couldn't have been happier with my entire experience working with Jill Andrews Gowns!!! I knew when I first got engaged that I wanted to work with Jill. I live near the studio, and walked past her studio frequently. Sometimes I'd walk by, just to see what gorgeous creation she had on display in the window. When I came in for my consultation, I brought a few pictures, as well as some sketches I'd drawn of the look I was going for. When I presented my 1930's inspirations, Jill and her assistant couldn't have been more enthusiastic! We had so much fun coming up with my final look! Both Jill and Mia, her assistant, were a pleasure to work with throughout the entire wedding planning process. They were both very professional, and accommodating, while still having fun (which helped me feel calm as I got stressed about the upcoming wedding).
My dress was absolutely perfect!!! I looked and felt like a 1930's movie star!!! I don't think I've ever received more compliments on a dress as I did on my gorgeous, perfect, magical JAG dress!!! I felt absolutely perfect- and it was so comfortable! I wore it all day, and into the wee hours of the morning, and it was light and comfortable the whole day!
I treasure my dress and the experience working with Jill and Mia! I will certainly go to them again, without hesitation if I need another perfectly gorgeous gown. My wedding dress and the whole experience getting it was awesome!!!

I had a very, very particular dress in mind for my wedding, including its exact shape, style, fabric, lines, and details. I spent months trying on dresses in salons and exploring alteration options, but no one could deliver exactly what I envisioned. Ultimately, we reached out to Jill Andrews. She sketched my dream dress on the spot during our first visit. Quite simply, Jill just got it. She understood my vision from the start, and we were sold. Jill has access to the finest fabrics and materials in the world, and more importantly, she, Elisabeth and Bailey understand how to work with them. My dress involved a luxurious 4-ply silk and the finest, most delicate French lace, and I also wanted a custom circular veil with lace trim. I remain amazed at their talent and abilities in working with such difficult materials. On that note, it is worth noting that I always saw other girls' dresses during my atelier appointments, and the range of Jill's talent is incredible. Seriously, if you dream it, she can do it.

In the end, I got married in the EXACT dress I dreamed of, down to the placement of pleats and lace, personal blue embroidery on the inside lining, etc. My veil was a dream, and I did not take it off all night. Every detail was perfect. Our friends and family, and most importantly my husband, still marvel at the dress and veil today. I really cannot put into words how much I love, love, LOVE my dress and veil. I have been begging Jill and the girls for a "veil party" in the studio just so I can wear it again.

Lastly, I wish I could give six stars for value. The cost of my custom Jill Andrews gown, my custom lace veil, and all alterations was less than the starting price of dresses I considered on the rack at salons in DC, and those did not even include alterations and a veil. It cost me less to have the complete wedding look of my dreams than it would have cost me to end up with something I didn't 100% love!

I used Jill Andrews Gowns for the alteration of my wedding dress. They were extremely flexible with alteration appointments, specific questions/concerns I had with my dress and my timeline. My dress looked great and fit me like a glove. They even helped me alter my jewelry and press my handmade headpiece !! Love this team!

Working with Jill and Jennifer, the Jill Andrews Gowns team, was a wonderful experience. I was planning to wear my grandmother's wedding dress that was designed and handmade by my great-grandmother. My mother and aunt had also worn it. I was living in New York City at the time and took it to a well-respected tailor, costume designer, and dress restorer. She said the lace was rotting there was not much hope. I grew up in Baltimore and my parents still lived there. My mother heard about Jill Andrews and so we took the dress there, fearing the worst. Jill completely loved the dress and was so positive. Of course, it was a lot of work. They replaced the lace, finding a lace pattern of beautiful fabric that is very similar to the original. We replaced some of the satin skirt. We also replaced the tulle fabric on the skirt with silk organza because Jill thought that was really the look my great-grandmother was hoping for, but could not find during lean war times in the late 1940s. Jill painstakingly saved all the original satin covered buttons to use again. She also created a custom veil for me and embellished it with some of the original lace that was still in good condition. While ultimately much of the dress was of new materials, Jill and Jennifer kept the spirit of the dress intact and actually improved it. My grandmother, the first bride who wore the dress, my aunt and my mother, all who had worn the dress, were able to come to a fitting and it meant so much to all of us. I guess this truly was my “something borrowed, old and new!”

Jill and Jennifer's passion, expertise, and knowledge of fabrics was indispensable to the success of this project. Jill’s love of vintage dress design made us feel as though our heirloom dress was in the most capable and loving hands. We truly felt the dress was valued not only for its original vintage beauty, but for the tradition and continuity it represents in my family. Also, we could tell that Jill and Jennifer felt a connection with my great-grandmother, her painstaking detail and tiny stitches, how she arranged the dress. I feel very fortunate that I was able to wear this dress. I could not have been a happier bride. I felt beautiful inside and out in a dress that meant so much to the women of my family. Thank you, Jill Andrews Gowns!

I bought a gown on consignment and brought it to Jill for altering. Little did I know that the last alterations had butchered it - Jill basically did "forensics" to restore it. I thought it just needed a few minor alterations, but when Jill was done it was practically brand new and even more beautiful than when I brought it to her! And it fit perfectly. She and Elizabeth were an absolute pleasure to work with and made you feel like you were just hanging out with friends. And Jill's studio is AWESOMELY decorated, and fun to just hang out in and check out. I cannot recommend them highly enough. I paid about $500, which sounds high but covered the additional work needed to undo the past alterations and "reboot" it to factory settings - a risk I assumed when buying consignment! I cannot recommend Jill highly enough. You will NOT be disappointed with her work or her professionalism and responsiveness.

Having my dress made was probably the most enjoyable part of the whole wedding preparation process. Jill and Sarah were great to work with and are extremely talented. They took the time to get to know to get an idea of who i am so that my dress would reflect my personality. I could not have ever imagined that the finished product would be as stunning as it turned out. Every detail was considered and the construction was amazing. A clear commitment to impeccable craftsmanship is evident in their work. I really enjoyed working with them and actually miss spending time in their amazing studio. If i could afford it, i would have dresses made all the time.

Jill Andrews and her staff are worth the money, FOR SURE, like so many other brides have said. They have incredible style, and they are definitely not your run-of-the-mill bridal salon. Everything is done with care and with the "total look" in mind. I went there for alterations to a lace dress I bought at a consignment shop. It needed a bit of work here and there. They not only made the dress look amazing and fit like a glove, but they helped me complete the look with a gorgeous sash, shoe suggestions, and hair ideas. They were fun to work with. My only complaint is that email communication is a bit difficult. They always reply eventually, but don't expect a response immediately if you have a burning question. Calling is probably your best option in those cases.

I went to Jill Andrews 4 months before my son's wedding to have a gown custom made. I am petite and couldn't find one that fit. A gown was made and I went to the fitting three weeks before the wedding. I tried the gown on when I went to pick it up and the top of the gown was loose and everything was visible. I mentioned this to Jill Andrews and she said "it's fine. Just pull it down." The gown was unwearable as it was and I went to Nordstrom to have the gown altered 2 days before the wedding. Terrible experience and the gown was very expensive.
