Amazing!
The Hotel Julien was absolutely fantastic to work with for our wedding! They have amazing communication and were very thorough in answering all of our questions! We were working with Nicole up until she had maternity leave. We then started working with Dianne while Nicole was out. This was a smooth transition and they did a nice job of introducing us and making us feel comfortable and like we were in good hands. We had no issues with the hotel besides a minor mix up in the set up of the room which was promptly fixed! They were very easy to work with the night before when we had made some last minute changes! We had many compliments on the food, which was delicious and the banquet staff was fantastic and made sure everything was perfect and things were going well throughout the night! I couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out! I highly recommend the Hotel Julien! The Hotel Julien was absolutely fantastic to work with for our wedding! Wonderful Wedding venue!
We had a wonderful experiencing working with the Hotel Julien! As a result of covid we postponed the wedding & had multiple last minute changes, management did a great job of working with us and accommodating. The event planner, Nicole, and team were exceptional to work with and everything the day of was perfect!! The majority of our wedding guests were from out of town; they stayed at the hotel and also had a wonderful experience all around! We just stayed here before our wedding.
We used the Hotel Julien for lodging prior to our wedding so that we had a room in Dubuque to get ready in. We booked the suite and it was beautiful! There was plenty of space for 10 or so girls to get ready. The beds were comfortable and I felt well rested. The hotel was very accommodating for whatever we needed. The only downfall was that you had to book both Friday and Saturday to stay so we did not do a room block here because many family members only wanted Saturday night. I would definitely stay here again. We used the Hotel Julien for lodging prior to our wedding so that we had a room in Dubuque to get ready in. We booked the suite and it was beautiful! Everything was beautiful! Allie, the wedding coordinator, was so helpful and responsive. She also was very flexible in what I wanted! Being an out of town bride, she made everything easy and the end result was perfect!Everything was beautiful! Allie, the wedding coordinator, was so helpful and responsive. We loved the Hotel Julien! This is where I had dreamed of having my wedding reception for many years as it has beautiful atmosphere. When it came time to choose a reception, the Julien had the most bang for our buck! Andrea was great to work worth and was always willing to give me any advice or answer any questions I had. She was also very flexible and worked with me so our reception turned out exactly how I wanted! We received so many compliments on our venue from our wedding guests and I wouldn't change a thing! We loved the Hotel Julien! We held our wedding reception at Hotel Julien Dubuque, and everything seemed perfect to us. We had 288 guests, with many of those guests traveling from out-of-town, so we had approx. 46 rooms booked, and I only heard great things from all of the overnight guests that we talked to the next morning at the breakfast we had catered by Caroline's in a private room just off the lobby.
Andrea was our wedding coordinator, and she took care of everything from the very beginning, from lining up our room blocks with the hotel; setting up our food tasting; helping us choose our menu for the plated dinner, along with the cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and food we had later toward the end of the evening while guests were dancing and drinking; picking linens, some of the decorations; lining up the staff to put the overnight guests' gift bags in the room before they checked in; and ordered the catered private breakfast in the morning. Anything we needed, we only had to ask Andrea, and she would take care of it for us.
And the food was delicious; we had bacon-wrapped sirloin, chicken beurre blanc, vegetarian plate, and chicken fingers (for the children), as our selections, and we only heard positive comments about the food from everyone. And everything came out pretty fast, too, so it didn't seem like people had to wait while others were eating, like I've experienced a lot at other wedding receptions.

This venue is absolutely gorgeous. They really know how to pull off a wedding. Allie was great to work with. I am a huge foodie, while Julien's menu looked delicious, I wanted something a little more fall themed. I suggested a chicken bruschetta and pork with apple instead of cranberry. Allie sent those suggestions to the chef and they came up with chicken topped with smoked mozzarella caprese and Dijon crusted pork with apply chutney. They were absolutely delicious and our guests were very excited to get their meals. We also wanted flavored water and Julien happily obliged. Lastly, we wanted a late night food. I was sick of having pizza for a late night snack, so I suggested grilled cheese: Gouda with caramalized onions and cheddar with bacon. They were a hit! Everything Allie and the Julien staff did for us was so amazing and made our perfect day run so smoothly. Thank you so much, it was truly the best day of our lives! This venue is absolutely gorgeous. We held our daughter's wedding ceremony and reception in the grande ballroom at the Julien. Excellent staff and service. Food was mediocre. Capone suite is convenient for bridal party to get ready but is overpriced. Trains at night can be bothersome if you stay in this suite. Get a diamond Jo club card from the casino and save a bundle on hotel rooms. We held our daughter's wedding ceremony and reception in the grande ballroom at the Julien. Excellent staff and service. Pretty good venue
Mostly good experience minus a small misunderstanding with food for the rehearsal but venue is beautiful, during the wedding, the staff was professional & kind. Couple of young staff boys even danced during the wedding! It was a blast! Wedding suit is pretty big & very nice. The Hotel Julien is beautiful and picturesque Dubuque location. Working with Mary Kay (the wedding guru for the Hotel Julien) was good, she's easy to talk with and very helpful. Beauty is the best way describe the Hotel Julien but it was the behind the scences that caused me to give them lower scores. I have a dairy allergy which Mary Kay, my husband and I talked about a lot when choosing our meal. On the night of the reception, dinner came out with a lovely cream sauce which I of course could not have, nor did we choose to have this sauce. When we did our tasting it did not have any sauce on it and was only seasoned. I had the waiter take it back and make me another as quickly as possible. Another meal did not come back until most of the guests were done eating therefore I went without dinner on my wedding night. It was very disappointing and not handled well. The bride's dinner is the one meal you do not mess up.
We had issues with hotel rooms as well, couples were put into big rooms while families were put into smaller rooms, families with the same last names had there room assignments switched, and there were inconsistencies with room rates for the wedding group. It took my mother almost an hour it get it all squared away so the appropriate people were charged with the appropriate rate.
Our wedding night room was complimentary with the having the reception there, our room was gorgeous with the greatest view of the Illinois bridge, great place to unwind after the long day.
My overall impression is beautiful place with a lot to offer but they need organizational help. There seemed to a lot of passing to buck and no one really in charge. The Hotel Julien is beautiful and picturesque Dubuque location. I would only recommend this venue to a friend based on the location, the ease of having a hotel at the same location as your reception. We had a poor experience, which probably doesn't happen all the time. A beverage cart attendant for another wedding ruined our first look pictures by walking by (so close he touched us) during the moment.. They were also very rude (front desk) to several of my guests when checking in. My nails/toes had to be redone at the salon (wouldn't recommend for a pedicure or manicure!) twice because they were chipping before I even left the salon. The dance floor was sticky when setting up the reception, but then they cleaned it, which felt more like a wax, and several guests slipped and fell at the reception. The general manager was very condescending when speaking to me about these issues, and there was no tone of remorse in his voice at all. The hotel is beautiful, the rooms were nice. And they DID offer to take care of our next stay and spa to make up for the infractions.. Just sad we had to go through that at all. Their customer service could use a makeover.I would only recommend this venue to a friend based on the location, the ease of having a hotel at the same location as your reception.
