Emma is an absolute pleasure to work with and her photography continues to astound me. She is a true professional with years of experience, and always finds a way to capture the pure emotions of this momentous event. Our photos turned out better than we could have ever imagined. I would hire her again in a heartbeat and recommend her to any bride who wants to remember her wedding as the happiest day of her life. My husband and I will be forever grateful!!

Words can't express how happy we are with Emma's work! My husband and I will absolutely cherish all of the pictures she took of us! I often flip through our wedding album and still feel all of the love she poured into her work. Any person would be lucky to have her as their photographer!

Emma is an exceptional person and photographer and my entire family holds her in special regard; since photographing my wedding, she has documented my parents' anniversary and will be called upon when my daughter is born. That being said, I only recommend Emma to those who want a photographer who does weddings, not a "wedding photographer." Emma was our big expenditure and well worth it: we have some really lovely traditional photos, but we also have some prints that will be framed and on display for generations not because they are our wedding photos but because they are exquisite pieces of art.

A note: you have to surrender your inner micro-manager. I really wanted an exact timeline of what was going to happen when [ and on what film stock and in how many pixels per inch] and I think it's safe to say that is just not how Emma works. Which can be enervating while planning the wedding, but ends up being great for the photos. Instead of hitting set points along a pre-determined timeline, she was able to capture the event organically: the smiles, embraces and groups of revelers are real and not contrived- just like Emma!

You'll learn that Emma Dodge Hanson has lived, breathed and studied photography her whole life. She is a down to earth person who captures moments, not poses. That is why I chose her. In a world of uncertainties of tomorrows seeing a persons smile at 'that' moment will always be precious. Emma freezes those moments for you. Her work is priceless and worth it. Emma is not the cheapest photographer that you'll find (that is why I gave a 4 for value because there are photographers out there that will give you more product for less money but not necessarily quality product and some stories I've heard are just down right scary), you have to find a photographer whose style captures your personality. However, you also have to find a photographer who loves her clients, and Emma is it!!!!

With that said photography for us was our 'splurge'. Decide on the one aspect of your wedding that you have no limits to and that is your splurge.

Emma is elegant, professional, fun, kind and knowledgable with years of experience. She treats people like people. She's understanding and above all compassionate. She's a hard worker. I will hire her to do our family photos for years to come. I LOVED her most of all throughout my wedding day. You never knew she was there but always felt comfortable knowing she was close by. She was also the only vendor I enjoyed chatting with more than anything.

We chose a photographer to do our engagement photos in FL and had an awful experience. She was cheap and only had 6 years of experience and no formal education. A hard lesson to learn. Don't make that mistake.

A year later I still go see Emma when ever I'm in town just to have coffee with her. I love browsing her website and Facebook randomly to see the absolutely GORGEOUS photos that she takes. She's a rare gem who work will last and be well know for generations to come. I can't recommend her enough!!

Emma is a truly beautiful person, inside and out. She lights up the room with her smile and instantly my husband and I felt a connection with her. Her style is more photojournalistic, so no stiff, posed shots, or forced, awkward moments. This is what we love most about her work. She captured glances and embraces that we never could have pre-arranged, and for these reasons we absolutely love every image in our wedding album. In fact, it was nearly impossible to select from so many beautifully composed, yet seemingly effortless images. For this kind of patience and attentiveness, however, you need to be prepared to pay a lot of money. We feel that ours was well spent on Emma. She is an Upstate New York treasure!

We hired Emma Dodge Hanson for our wedding photographer. It has been a year since our wedding and we still do not have our photographs. It's not because Emma doesn't have them ready, it's because we felt completely taken advantage of by her. Emma pushed us to sign up her smallest package saying that we were having a very small wedding and we just wouldn't need to get a larger package. I expressed to her, in writing, that I wanted her to attend the entire wedding, at that point, she should have suggested that we go with a different tier. Although she did give us a discounted rate, we were charged so much money in extra hours, that we ended up paying for the highest tier and got a fraction of the pictures. The hardest part is that Emma already did the work, she claims that it is so much work to "present" the photos to us, but she would rather file them away in a box to collect dust, then to let us enjoy the prints or even the files. Emma charges a whooping $180 PER PRINT In addition to your allotted number of prints. In our case, we were allowed 18 prints for the 8 hours she was there. Roughly 2 prints an hour! My biggest problem with Emma was not her work, which is quite good, it was her inability to see the other side of the coin, her complete insensitivity to our situation and her unwillingness to compromise, even a little bit. Emma appears to be very friendly and nice, but she dug her heels into the ground and refused to help us. We are devastated by our experience with Emma Dodge Hanson. I only wish that I could go back in time and hire someone else who was reasonable and willing to work with us.
