Beautiful Elopement

The perfect addition to our day!

We opted to do a signing only elopement at their ranch, which has the cutest little chapel. She was the absolute sweetest, made us feel extremely comfortable, and we could feel the love she has for officiating. We had a little ceremony and the opportunity to take pictures and spend time with some adorable animals. I'm a wheelchair user and I was able to access everywhere with a bit of help.

The best officiant in Texas

I've been a Spike fan for many years now, so this review is probably biased- but I'm leaving it anyway because y'all need to know how wonderful she is. From the moment I contacted her to our wedding day, Spike was a pleasure to work with. Her communication was always clear and prompt, and as a professional writer I was so appreciative of her thoughtful feedback and the samples she provided to guide the process of writing our ceremony. On our wedding day, she was punctual, calm, and put both us and our guests at ease. She matched our laid-back small wedding vibe and delivered our ceremony flawlessly. A true professional, 1000/10 recommend!

Working with Spike was an easy and straight forward process! From the moment I contacted her she was quick with our email correspondence and she answered all the questions I would ask. She even emailed me in advance before the big day to warn me and my guests about some traffic that might have effected our timeline, I thought that was so thoughtful of her! She was so very helpful on the night of our ceremony at Chapel Dulcinea too.

We are so happy we found Spike!! She was so supportive and helpful during a stressful time. She responded so quickly to us and was always there to answer any questions and guide us. She spoke so nicely during the ceremony and her delivery was perfect. Many of our guests complimented her and really loved her. She even took care of our marriage certificate and had it mailed back to us. Highly recommend. Thank you Spike for making our ceremony exactly what we wanted!!

Spike is amazing!!!

I think the greatest compliment to Spike’s work is the fact that our guests all thought that my husband and I had been friends with Spike for years. She was able to capture our story beautifully in just the two times we met with her before the ceremony. She was so much fun to work with and instilled a sense of trust from the moment we met her. Any concern I had about the fact that we didn’t have a rehearsal in advance of the wedding vanished as I listened to her and enjoyed the ceremony she helped us create. We would recommend Spike unconditionally and feel incredibly lucky for the opportunity to have worked with her.

Cool laid-back officiant!

Spike was the perfect officiant for us! We had a non religious, small wedding ceremony at Chapel Dulcinea. Spike wrote a wonderful custom ceremony that incorporated quotes from Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. She made us feel at ease on our wedding day. Thank you Spike!

I don't know, what else can I say. We got Spike's name from a referral on a website, we sent her an email, hopped a plane, stayed at her ranch, Tiny T Ranch, and knew right away that Spike was the woman....the "must have" perform our ceremony - without a doubt! There are a few people you meet in life that just 'get it' and Spike is one of them. Spike doesn't push anything on you, she gets to know you but doesn't bug you, she puts her education, experience and heart, (omg her heart, so big, so deep!) into everything I have witnessed and experienced from the day we met. After our initial meeting weekend, we booked Spike; six months in advance from the suburbs of Philadelphia, and she never forgot about us - not once. Our ceremony was perfect, and we are over the moon to have Spike in the memories of our wedding day that will be treasured for a lifetime. I hope more and more couples choose to enjoy the "must have" we found in Spike.

Spike was really wonderful to work with and we're so happy she was such an integral part of such an important day in our lives. We started by just touching base and seeing if she was free. We had a lovely conversation to make sure she was the right fit for our service and went from there. She sent some simple guidelines to her service and provided us with some previously used outlines for ceremonies she had preformed to give a place to start. From there we spent some time emailing in detail about various aspects of the ceremony.

Honestly, the best part about working with Spike is that she has some really wonderful insight on weddings, relationships and marriage (which she only offers if you ask, in case you'd rather not philosophize in detail on those points). I feel privileged to have had someone with such a wonderful heart and mind there to untie my husband and I. I would recommend Spike to anyone.

We never considered anyone else, any can't imagine working with anyone else now! Neither of us anticipated what a valuable and integral role an officiant could play until we joined forces with Spike. We wanted to eliminate as much ceremony and tradition from our wedding as possible, and focus primarily on having a super fun party.

Initially, we planned to have a friend officiate, but when they got cold feet we reached out to Spike after hearing her name around various circles of friends. Our whole event was super DIY (and planned remotely) and we cannot express how valuable it was to have someone onboard who knew what she was doing! We have Spike to thank for helping us keep our eye on the prize, steering the ship in the right direction, and being an all around positive force - and all from another city! She is an amazing collaborator, respectful of your preferences and vision as a couple, and very tactful about offering advice and input. On a more tactical level, she's been involved in a lot of weddings and has a lot of practical contributions to make from all of her experiences - that helped us a lot and gave us more confidence to plan and execute, and eliminate some frivolous details.

We really hadn't anticipated how significant our ceremony could be. We even talked about skipping or severely expediting it, thinking that it would seem too formal or somehow embarrassing to say all those things in front of a crowd. Instead, it was really meaningful and distinctly memorable in the best possible way. So many friends and family told us how much they enjoyed it and thanked us for reminding them of "what it's all about." In turn, we want to thank Spike and recommend her highly!

Spike treated my daughter and new son-in-law as if they were old friends. After spending the time to really meet the two, Spike created a custom service that captured the spirt of the day. I don't know what we would have done without Spike! She was laid back but professional. She helped us put together the perfect ceremony and made sure we had our marriage license ready. She had some great words of wisdom that helped us relax. Before the ceremony, as we were getting ready, she checked in with each of us, told us to breathe, and made sure we had the timing right so we wouldn't run into each other on the way to the chapel. She was just so wonderful!

Spike officiated at our intimate secular wedding outside Austin and we couldn't have been happier with our decision. She worked with us to develop the ceremony and vows and was very helpful with suggestions for readings and wording options. She is such a pro and has so much experience that we could ask her specific questions about our venue since she'd performed so many ceremonies there already. The day-of, she provided us with great last-minute advice before the ceremony. The ceremony itself was just as we'd imagined it, even better, and our families felt that she did a great job personalizing the ceremony to us as a couple. She's fantastic!!

Spike was AMAZING! She truly made our wedding day even more special than we could have imagined. We were stuck when it came to the flow and readings, but she gave us the best suggestions and resources to get the planning process started. We felt like we were being married by a friend, as you can feel the warmth and care in each conversation with Spike. Multiple wedding guests commented that the vows and readings were some of the most beautiful they had ever heard. While we were interested in more guidance for our wedding day, Spike was also open to completely customizing each and every step of the ceremony. We feel so fortunate to have had Spike at our wedding. We really wanted to find someone who would understand how special our big day was and I don't think we could have found anyone better! Spike listened carefully to our daughter and son-in-law in order to provide them the wedding they wanted.

Words are important to me. Just as a musician listens to the string trio at his daughter's wedding, I focused on the vows because I'm a writer.

Spike put the wishes and hopes our family had for the couple into words. We could tell she understood their ethic and cared about making their service perfect for them.

First off, this is the first time I've reviewed anything online, so I hope that tells you how much I absolutely loved working with Spike! She was very professional and a dream to work with - I wish all of my wedding vendors were like her! She was the only vendor I hired based on the reviews on this website (the others were through referrals), and the only vendor my husband wanted to hire before our meeting was even over. I received tons of compliments about Spike and our ceremony. Our ceremony was my favorite part of my wedding day and I know it was because we had such a great officiant. We were so lucky to have Spike officiate our wedding. She did an amazing job of tailoring the ceremony to fit our needs. We have two young children that we wanted to be included in the ceremony. With Spike's guidance it could not have gone better. Spike was professional, relaxed, supportive, and organized throughout the entire process. If you are looking for the right person for your wedding, there is no one better than Spike. She is resourceful, open minded, responsible, and charming. Once we interviewed with her we knew she was the right person for us. We planned our backyard wedding in a month, and she made the ceremony process so easy. We had no idea what to expect for the ceremony and she helped us make it our own, needless to say it was everything we wanted it to be. Even due to some unfortunate planning (entirely on our part) we ran late on the ceremony, Spike remained 100% professional, polite and understanding during the wait. We couldn't have asked for a more memorable ceremony!

My Husband and I were married on June 7, 2015. I am so glad that we chose Spike to perform our wedding ceremony. She was so wonderful at responding to our needs, wrote a beautiful ceremony, and helped ensure that our day went smoothly. Our wedding was outside, during the wettest month we have had in Texas in so long, and we were terrified of having flooding. We had no idea what we would do if the weather was bad, and Spike suggested a wonderful backup plan when we had none. Luckily we did not have to use it as the day ended up being beautiful! We couldn't have picked a better officiant.

We approached Spike after finding many other Austin locals who've gotten married through her many times of doing so that it would be a crime if we did not hire her. So we did! We paid her after inquiring on her details of services, and then we met her in person!

I know, it's rather strange to hand over a stranger lots of money, and then meet them and see what they're all about. We met her at Cherrywood Coffee, and from there we knew she was the one, just as we knew we were gonna get married! It was all meant to be and speaking with Spike put us at such ease. She listened to our humorous story of our first date at a Best Buy, and from there everything was just how a wedding should be, not of Pinterest photo bridesmaid and shoes and floral galore, but of love and respect and a caring of so strong that she could paint the picture in words spoken in our ceremony.

Spike did such an amazing job, she spoke fluidly the day of, reviewed and revised our personal vows we wrote and cropped them to be short and sweet like we asked, did this in a manner that was respectful and noninvasive which is quite a skill to have as an established writer. And she even revised the ceremony numerous times after we had decided they'd be "final". I know planning a wedding is stressful but with Spike, it wasn't! The money we spent to have her officiate our wedding was more than we wanted to spend, $500 on an officiant (more than what my dress cost!), but I feel now so strong that it was the right amount as no amount of money could have given us the love and warmth that we shared with her.

She is just the right person and aura of all Austiny feelings, spiritual, hippie, but so so warm and amazing to share the way with words at a special momental moment like a wedding.

Hiring Spike as our wedding officiant was the best decision we could have made. We knew we had picked the right person immediately after meeting with Spike the first time. We wanted our wedding to be fun, relaxed, and most of all, not stuffy. Spike is assuredly not stuffy, and was a pleasure to work with. She is also extremely responsive and communicative, which makes the whole process very easy.

As others have said, Spike will give you as much or as little guidance as you want when it comes to your vows. She gave us a number of sample ceremonies to read through, and we were able to work with her on crafting our ceremony and vows. We wanted a mostly non-religious wedding with some blessings and fairly traditional vows, and Spike easily accommodated our requests and made our wedding ceremony exactly what we were hoping for.

We asked Spike to come to our rehearsal, and I'm so glad we did. She kept everyone on track, and prepared us for the next day. The day of the wedding was even better. She kept the mood lighthearted, and even had tissue for me when I started crying mid-ceremony. Our ceremony made us and our guests laugh and cry in the best way possible, and our guests are still talking about it. If you are looking for an officiant, I can't recommend or speak highly enough about Spike. You won't regret hiring her!

I'd like to add my voice to the chorus of praises being sung here for Spike. You know you made the right choice when the people in charge of your wedding venue make audible sounds of relief when you tell them you hired Spike Gillespie - "oh, she's awesome, great, we love working with her."

Spike is competent, professional, and ready to work with whatever kind of ceremony you dream up. From our conversations with her, it sounds like she's done it all. Religious weddings? Check. Secular weddings? Check. Hippie poetry readings? Jokes? Unicorn masks? Check, check, check.

We met with Spike in person, then communicated with her through e-mail. We mutually agreed that she didn't need to show up to our rehearsal, because she and the venue were so acquainted with each other and our ceremony was so simple, but she absolutely was available for that. She provided us with multiple example ceremonies, from which we were able to craft our own personalized version that she read beautifully. She showed up on right on time, excited and friendly.

I cannot be happier with my choice to hire Spike. You should do the same!

Spike performed the most spiritual and touching ceremony of any wedding I've attended! When the husband to be is crying and there is a butterfly circling around your union - love was definitely in the air! We liked how she writes her own vows and provides you with options as to which ones fit you best as a couple. She even let us edit them a few times. Her sense of calmness brought relief to a anxious day. We would recommend her hands down for anyone ready to take the leap!

Spike provides a wonderful, laid-back, flexible officiant service. She will be as involved, or as passive, in the creation of the ceremony as you need her to be. She'll do religious, secular, serious, and silly ceremonies. She likes dogs and has good taste in coffee shops.

We lovedlovedloved working with Spike! She made planning the ceremony super easy by giving lots of advice and assuring us that the whole ceremony could be done without a day-of coordinator (which we planned to do without). We met with her once, told her what we envisioned, and then worked the rest of the time with her via email (although she was totally flexible with meeting with us in person any time we needed--even during her birthday month :) ). We had written an okay personal story that she really finessed into a funny, memorable story that totally fit us.

We did our rehearsal the day of and she was awesome in whipping our bridal party into shape and really explaining to us what we all needed to be doing and when. I felt totally confident in her abilities to keep our ceremony running smoothly. For the actual wedding, she was so awesome... everything went smoothly and she even was able to read the audience and improvise some funny jokes here and there. Even now people are telling us how wonderful Spike and our ceremony was. I learned that having a beautiful, memorable ceremony will really set the tone for the rest of your wedding!

I also appreciated the fact that she had worked with a lot of our vendors before, especially our DJ (Erik from DJ Greenbelt Productions--who is also just as awesome!). It makes such a difference when your wedding vendors know your venue and the other vendors. :) Thank you, Spike!

Spike's graceful and beautiful delivery of our vows were an important piece to making our ceremony very special. Working with her was a treat. She is prompt, professional and a fun lady. I will always recommend her for wedding ceremonies. She really has a pulse and read on what is important to couples. She is a lovely person with a sly wit. I would also suggest you follow her blog about meditation and buy her books! I can't rave enough about her.

There are not enough nice things I can say about Spike. From the moment I looked through Spike's website, I knew she was going to be the right fit for my husband and I's wedding in December of 2014. Our intro call with her was wonderful- she was so warm and friendly and no non-sense. She made the entire process so easy because she was always available by email or phone and she was always willing to Skype. She wasn't pushy but made sure to check in frequently enough to make sure we were on track. She was prompt for the ceremony rehearsal and managed to get the entire bridal party to listen and follow directions (not an easy feat as we had a large bridal party). Most importantly, Spike guided us in creating a ceremony that was true to us and our story. Every aspect of the ceremony was tailored to us and what we wanted it to mean and represent. After the ceremony was over, we had people coming up to us all night complimenting us on the ceremony and how wonderful Spike was. My husband and i could not have been happier with Spike and you will not regret choosing her as your officiant.

Spike was amazing and added just the right touch to our intimate, at-home wedding. She had 4 other weddings that day (12/13/14, so lots of folks picked that date) but she made us feel like we were the most important people in the world. Leading up to the wedding, she was very accessible, prompt in responding to requests, great with giving us suggestions but letting us keep control of how we wanted things to go, and professional while still being laid back. I'd recommend her to all my friends!

Spike Gillespie prepared us well for the wedding and did a beautiful job officiating the ceremony. We had a last minute venue change due to a wicked and wet freezing cold front that arrived the night before our wedding, necessitating a move indoors for the ceremony, away from the outdoor setting in Mayfield Park. Spike stayed calm and provided expert guidance and advice. The move indoors to Fonda San Miguel restaurant before it was open to the public ended up being perfect, warm and cozy -- with candles flickering all around. Regardless of the size, style and scope of your wedding, Spike will do a beautiful job assisting with the ceremony language and guiding the bride and groom through all the twists and turns of wedding plans and decisions, all but guaranteeing a beautiful and memorable occasion.

It's clear Spike loves what she does. She really focuses on getting to know you. This was a challenge for us because we currently live in DC and were not coming back to Austin until 4 days before the wedding. It only took about 20 minutes on Skype to realize that Spike was just the best. She asked us all the right questions (what do you two want in a wedding? how do you want it to feel?), sent us sample vows, made sure we got the license in time.

Spike, you made a special yet stressful day better and less stressful. Thank you!!!!

After our venue, Spike was the first vendor that we booked for our wedding, which at the time was about a year and a half away (book her as soon as you can!). Soon after, she sent us lots of sample ceremonies to look through, but we sat on them for a long time and didn't actually meet with Spike in person until about three months before the wedding. I was confident from all of her previous reviews that she would be a wonderful officiant, and she was! Our (secular) ceremony was meaningful, personal, and elegantly performed. Spike was easy to work and communicate with, and I would wholeheartedly recommend her to any couple looking to go beyond a generic, cookie-cutter ceremony.

Spike Gillespie was everything we wanted in an officiant. Receptive, relaxed, smart and a true guru at what she does. She loves her job and it’s obvious. When we first reached out to Spike via email, she responded quickly (within 1-2 days) and she was ready to setup our first face-to-face meeting so we could get to know each other. Guys, this was 15 months before the wedding. We met up and were just so pleased. She’s a total badass.

The ceremony was nothing short of perfect. We worked together on the ceremony flow and write-up. She got up there and nailed it. Our families loved every second and we all clung to each beautiful word. Matt and I will never forget how awesome and meaningful our ceremony was.

If you are getting hitched, give her a ring. Thank you Spike for everything!

would highly recommend Spike to anyone looking for someone to officiate their wedding.

We contacted her and within a few days, had set up a meeting where we knew right away she was who we wanted. We only had a few weeks until our wedding as it was on short notice and was very small but Spike made the whole process so easy! She was easy to talk to, never pushed her own ideas on us and totally got what we were looking for. She helped write the ceremony and made sure that the vows we wrote ourselves were not too different from eachothers without us knowing what the other wrote.

She showed up when she said she would and took charge instantly from making sure everyone knew where to stand to making sure all cell phones were silenced. The ceremony went off without a hitch and she lead us in a toast after the ceremony was over. She stayed a little after the ceremony to finish the marriage license and take a couple of pictures and then left so we could go to our reception.

Spike was extremely professional, kind, friendly and was a joy to work with.

Spike of Custom Hitches is terrific. I had done a lot of research online and came across her info. She was the first and only officiant we met with. Chemistry is very important to us and we immediately connected with Spike. We didn't even hesitate hiring her (and we are not the fastest decision makers typically). We knew we wanted a non-traditional, non-denominational, yet spiritual ceremony with tribute to my husband's Catholic upbringing. Spike helped us through the entire process providing samples, suggestions, readings and providing insightful experience that you only get after performing hundreds of ceremonies. Her responses were always very prompt. I can't tell you how many compliments we have gotten on our ceremony content as well as Spike's delivery. When we met to develop the personal story that Spike would tell about us, I didn't know how she'd come up with something from what we gave her. I was so pleased and amazed with what she turned it in to...it was touching, funny and engaging. I can't recommend Spike enough. I never want to get married again but sad I won't get to work with Spike again as a result :)

Spike was great to work with. My husband and I were a bit stumped about how to go about putting together a secular wedding ceremony, but she sent us several examples and helped us create our own. She responded to my emails quickly and provided prompt feedback on our drafts. The day of our ceremony turned out to be chilly and damp and when she arrived she immediately began helping our coordinator wipe down the ceremony chairs without being asked. Overall I thought Spike was fantastic and have no reservations about recommending her to others.

We got married in October 2014 and Spike officiated our wedding! We knew we wanted to have Spike lead our ceremony when we first met her at a KUT Views and Brews event. She was on a panel with a few other wedding vendors and we could immediately tell she was super down to earth and had a great sense of humor. Spike was amazing during the planning process, giving us guidance around the timing of each section of our wedding and helping us craft a beautiful and personal ceremony. It was such a pleasure to work with Spike! Our venue, Laguna Gloria recommended her for our wedding and we couldn’t be happier! We are more spiritual than religious and Spike really helped us create a ceremony that was unique but at the same time integrated some traditional elements such as the unity candle and the traditional vows. There are so many ways to having a ceremony and at first we were overwhelmed with ideas. When we met with Spike, she made us feel at ease with her very personable, laid-back style. She provided us examples of her other ceremonies performed which really helped us figure out what we wanted for our ceremony. Not only did Spike help us with ceremony content, she also offered to help look over our personal vows since we wanted them to be a secret till the day of and wanted to make sure they were the same tone, length, etc. Anytime we emailed Spike she replied immediately and we felt she was always available. It made us feel at ease knowing we had a very professional as well as personable officiant for the most important day of our lives! We highly recommend Spike! She was absolutely the best.

Spike was amazing! We could not have found a better officiant for our wedding. She helped us create the perfect ceremony that truly reflected our relationship. She is warm, sincere, professional and pretty much had an answer for every question we had. Spike is absolutely THE BEST!! She was exactly what who we wanted to officiate our wedding. She was as sincere and thoughtful with us and our vows as she was Austin funky and general badass. We couldn't be happier with having Spike officiate our wedding!

We had an elopement ceremony overlooking the 360 bridge and she worked with us to make sure that it was the special event that we were looking for. She went out of her way to accommodate us at the time and place, climbing up and down the hill in the twilight after rushing from a previous engagement.

She has a calming soul and a personality that immediately reassures you that you are in good hands.

Spike was the officiant at our wedding this last May and she was perfect! We wanted to have a ceremony that was more spiritual than religious, and she nailed it. All of the family on both sides was very happy and we received several comments about how unique and heartfelt our ceremony was. She worked with us from almost a year before, and really helped guide us in finding and choosing which readings to use. She responded very quickly in all of our communications (less than 24 hours) and was very calm and professional in person. Her fee is reasonable (average compared with the other vendors we talked to) and she didn't charge an arm and a leg to drive out of town for the wedding. She is warm and friendly, and that really shows through when she speaks. We would highly recommend Spike to anyone and are so incredibly happy that she was a part of our wedding!

Spike was the absolute perfect person to officiate our wedding. She is a wonderful speaker and has a very calming presence. She was so quick to respond to me about my last minute wedding and she went out of her way to make sure we would have the perfect day. I wanted a really early morning wedding and she thought she may not have been able to make it due to a work conflict, and she was so kind as to offer to find me someone who could do it. We love Spike!! She rocks. We had several wedding guests ask who she was and rave about what a wonderful ceremony it was. Spike makes it personal and conveys a lot of genuine warmth. One of our guests asked if she was a friend of ours - felt like she knew us. Well, we do consider Spike a friend, we loved talking with her before our wedding and joking with her. Even our photographer commented on what a great job she did. He said she's the only officiant he's ever seen step back during the kiss so that he could get a photo with just me and my hubbie in the shot.
The ceremony was perfect and EXACTLY what we wanted. Spike got it and was spot on with what we asked for. Thank you so much Spike, although we are still waiting on our chocolate....

Spike could not have been more fabulous. She provided us with the wording she used for some previous ceremonies and helped us make them our own. She was extremely responsive and perfected our words. Our ceremony could not have gone better. Every guest said that it was the most personal wedding they had ever been to...and that is due to Spike's guidance.

That...and she took our dogs (who were in the wedding) home to our house after the ceremony. She certainly went above and beyond!!

Spike was a fantastic support to me, as I planned a surprise proposal and wedding to my girlfriend (she said yes!) during our holiday in the US.

I planned it all from the UK beforehand, and Spike went above and beyond for me in her duties as registrar. Emails went back and forth as Spike and I fine-tuned the script of the wedding so that it was unique and personal.

She met us for coffee when we arrived in Austin a few days before the wedding to find out a bit more about us. And on the day, her delivery of our intimate little ceremony made it feel really special to us.

To top it all off, she acted as go-between, and posted our completed wedding certificate to us when we arrived back home in the UK.

Our whirlwind 3 days in Austin from proposal to wedding were the stuff that fantastic memories are made of, and Spike played a big part in making it such a happy time.

Spike was exactly what we were looking for. We had a non-religious elopement. Well, I say that, but I think all 3 of us worship at the altar of art and literature. We married on Shakespeare's birthday, so it was perfect to have someone who's a published author perform our service. In fact, I knew we had the right person when we confirmed the date and she knew it was Shakespeare's birthday without any mention of it on my part. I never had to wonder what was on her mind as she either responded to email immediately or let me know she'd be out of pocket--this is a big deal when pre-wedding nerves are incredibly sensitive. Flexible? You betcha! She didn't think twice when I added a performance element to our ceremony less than a week prior to our date AND asked if she'd read a line from a play for said performance! What a sport. She made us feel so relaxed. Good mojo all around.

Spike is awesome! She is was incredibly flexible with us. We contacted her last minute via email. We got married March 2nd 2014 at Villa Antonia and contracted Spike as our officiant. She was very professional with us the entire time. She took a very active interest in finding out exactly what type of wedding we envisioned. She also is very detail oriented regarding timelines and any special requests.

Spike is laid back just like us which made her a great fit. She can make your ceremony as traditional or non traditional as you want. We wrote our own vows and Spike was always available to give immediate feedback.

My wife and I would definitely recommend Spike as an officiant.

Spike is simply the best. Leading up to the wedding, she was really responsive and enthusiastic, always making us feel special and letting us change the ceremony script the day before. She provided advice and service, without trying to steer us one way or another with our ceremony script. We don't live in Austin so we only met her once, about 6 weeks before the wedding, but she managed to make us feel like we were in good hands through the entire planning process.

And then the day of the wedding. She arrived early, looked great, in all black with black cowboy boots, it was pretty perfect. And most importantly, she gave us an amazing, memorable, heart-felt, funny, and US ceremony. I've been to lots of weddings where it felt generic and like the two people getting married could have been anyone, but not with Spike. Spike tailored the ceremony script and vibe to us. And our guests noticed and enjoyed. Plus, as we were both at the altar getting all emotional, Spike offered us tissues, made us chill out and smile, and struck the perfect balance of serious, yet still us. I would recommend Spike to anyone who wants their wedding to be personal.

Spike is a rock star!

We interviewed quite a number of officiants and we felt that Spike had the right balance of spunky personality and professionalism for our wedding. She guided us through the ceremony process and helped us craft a ceremony that was unique to us. In addition, she looked out the personal vows that my husband I had written, which I truly appreciated, to make sure that we're not too off the path in terms of tone and length - a detail you really don't think about!

I couldn't imagine picking anyone but Spike for our wedding and I would wholeheartedly recommend her to others!

Spike was absolutely wonderful. My husband and I were not entirely sure what kind of ceremony we wanted but Spike was able to provide us with many different options, and then tailored the ceremony specifically for us. She was also very collaborative and wanted to make sure my husband and I were happy with every word of the ceremony. You can tell that she really cares about what she does. She was so warm and did such a wonderful job - the ceremony was perfect!

There isn't one reason why you shouldn't hire this amazing individual, and a plethora why you should. We knew we loved Spike as soon as we read about her online. She was so personable and customized the ceremony to match our essence. Very funny, yet beautiful and touching. It was absolutely perfect. Our families keep telling us how amazing it was, and we have to agree.

My husband's family does not speak English as a first language and she wrote the ceremony with that in mind. They had no trouble understanding, and her humor translated very well (which can sometimes be very difficult!). She was also able to accommodate our short planning schedule, which was greatly appreciated.

Spike is just one of those people you want to be around. I would highly recommend her to anyone who's fun-loving and easy-going!

We knew we wanted a non-religious wedding but at the same time did not want to alienate our religious friends and family. After seeing her website, we thought Spike would be perfect to officiate our wedding - and she was! She did a wonderful job of giving us exactly what we wanted while making sure everyone there felt included and respected. Although we worked closely with her to craft most of the ceremony (which was a fun, easy process), we also asked her to write something that we would not hear until we were standing in front of everyone, about to say our vows. My husband and I independently gave her our thoughts on why we fell in love with each other and she wove them together into a beautiful story. We trusted that she would write something beautiful, and she absolutely rose to the occasion, creating such a special moment for us. The day was mostly a blur, but we were completely present and calm and centered for the ceremony, which had a lot to do with Spike's own calming presence. She also showed up early and offered to help with anything we needed, which was so nice!

So many people came up to us during the reception to say it was the most moving ceremony they had ever witnessed, even the very religious ones who were used to church weddings. We are so glad that we had a ceremony that was reflective of who we are as a couple. We're grateful Spike has chosen to share her many talents with couples to make their weddings and commitment ceremonies so special.

I cannot say enough positive things about Spike. She was helpful throughout the planning process and even offered to help us out with wedding-related tasks since we were planning our ATX wedding from NYC. That was really only the beginning. . .

She edited our vows, and made kind suggestions on tweaks to make here and there, and met with us over coffee so she could get to know us better.

Everyone at our wedding said Spike was incredible, and we have to agree. . .we could not have been happier with the way our ceremony turned out! Honestly, if we lived in Austin, we'd probably force Spike to be friends with us. . .she is that awesome, fun and interesting. A true ATX legend! We love Spike!!!!

Spike was great! She was the perfect officiant for our wedding and I don't think we could have done any better.

Our wedding was not traditional in its format and we had a lot of trouble getting people on board with it. We wanted everything to be very relaxed and peaceful, which also meant there was very little structure. Spike just rolled with it. We mentioned to her in the beginning that we wanted to keep things short and that there would be no aisle, no escort, no ring bearer. She gave us a fair amount of advice and guidance in the beginning, but never seemed upset if we decided not to follow it. She never tried to talk us into anything.

She regularly corresponded with me during the planning stages and leading up to the wedding, but I never felt pressured or harrassed. She was always so pleasant to work with!

Weddings are stressful, no matter what you do. My recommendation is that you surround yourself with people that help to minimize the stress as much as possible. Spike did that for me, and I am very grateful!

We had Spike act as an officiant at our vow renewal ceremony. She
was an amazing officiant and an awesome person and we were thrilled with her contribution to our special day. We worked together to personalize a vow renewal ceremony that our friends are still talking about. On the day of our event, she helped direct guests to the chapel area (at Chapel Dulcinea) and had everyone quickly organized and at ease. Our guests' experience could be summed up in the word, "Wow!" which is what we heard over and over again. We were already excited about renewing our vows, but Spike made the experience truly magical. She conducted our vows in a lovely, resonant voice, and dealt with the unexpected - our accidentally tearing the rope down from the bell as we were ringing it - with grace and humor. She was great with all the guests, and with my mom's shy little dog (our flower girl) and we were very grateful for her ability to put everyone at ease. My 80 year old mother said she kind of wished she could get married again so that Spike could perform her ceremony! And - one of my dear friends, who was unable to attend - was possibly more upset at missing Spike than our ceremony! Spike is truly the best.

Spike is amazing. She is so much more than just an officiant—she is a positive, calming presence during what can be a stressful time, and also a great resource. She gave us some great recommendations for locations, brunch spots, and photographers. She is super at responding, usually within hours or even minutes and even emailed me during a layover to check in on my vows. Spike was more than accommodating and flexible with us, and so awesome to work with. She helped us create a custom ceremony that was beautiful and perfect for us. I highly recommend her.

I am 99.99% sure I left a review for Spike shortly after our wedding day . . . but I am not seeing it anywhere on Wedding Wire :( Well, let's just say that Spike was so incredible, I am now writing a second review--just to make sure that she gets the praise she deserves (not that praise for her is in short supply)!

We were extremely picky when it came to our wedding ceremony. We had a long list of demands (no religion whatsoever, as many references to music/classic literature/philosophy as possible, no exchange of rings, etc.). Spike met and FAR exceeded our wildest expectations. To this day, guests comment on how beautiful and unique our ceremony was. She could not have done a better job of tailoring the ceremony to our personalities, specific wishes, etc.

I should also mention that she is so good at what she does, we managed to pull off a beautiful and flawless ceremony without a rehearsal. She is truly more awesome than words can possibly express. Choosing her to officiate your wedding is the single best decision you could possibly make. Nothing but love for Spike--she is worth her weight in gold! :)

Spike was great. The ceremony is really the most important thing about the wedding. As a bride (and groom) you can get overwhelmed with all the other, prettier details, but at the end of the day, everyone's there to see you marry the love of your life.

My husband and I come from two different backgrounds. Neither of us are religious but he's more traditional and I'm more spiritual. We both wanted a ceremony that was personal but still felt like a "wedding."

Spike graciously and without judgement helped us come up with the words for our ceremony. You know, of all things, her compliance and helpfulness was something I appreciated most. While planning the wedding, I was bombarded with opinions, advice, and tips. Spike took our initial outline, filled in some spots and improved it - and never with complaints or critical push-back. It was refreshing!

However, the best part, and what makes Spike unique, is her "love story" addition. Everything else in the wedding was to try and make the guests feel comfortable and it was really nice to have the ceremony be about *us*. It was a great way for the husband and I to reminisce about our path and for guests who weren't familiar with one or the other get to hear our PG story.

Spike was always quick to respond, easy to meet with and professional. Also, she recommended a DJ to us who was perfect.

If you, like we, are on a budget, try and put the pricing in perspective and realize you are paying for the main event at a small fraction of all your other expenses.

We could not have been happier that we chose Spike to officiate our ceremony! We wanted a relatively short, non-religious ceremony that suited our personalities and she did an amazing job. Since we live out of town, we were only able to meet once and she got a real sense of our personalities and what we wanted after just a short encounter.
Spike was always very quick to respond from my first inquiry to sending me the first draft of our cermony, which was in fact was the final draft because she nailed it!
I have received many compliments on our wedding day and Spike was an important part of it!
