Crystal far exceed every expectation and significantly helped to make the entire wedding experience unforgettable. We love her style, her ability to capture candid split second moments, and the stories she tells through pictures. We were relaxed and often laughing, having a great time throughout the entire process. She is quietly competent, fun, and very well organized.
If photos are a priority for you, she is affordable! We did a package that included some engagement photos before the wedding, which was a great opportunity to get to meet Crystal and get a feel for how we wanted to work together. After that session at a park near our home, we felt much more prepared for what to expect on the wedding day, and we ended up with some amazing photos for our wedding website.
She asked a lot of thoughtful questions and sent some short surveys to get to know us, and help her prepare for what we wanted, how we wanted our big day to flow.
The day of the wedding at the Kennedy School, she collaborated with the DJ extremely well. We didn't have a wedding planner, so it was just them herding all the cats. They were able to help us pull off a large group picture with Crystal getting on top of a ladder that came out great. She was able to get our 6 year old nephew to smile during family portraits in really hot weather, which is close to impossible!
I really wasn't expecting the kind of creative breadth we received in our photos. She was able to catch fleeting sweet and goofy moments, poses and portraits that you'd find in a magazine, conventional stuff you want in a family album, and even some artsy shots that I wouldn't be surprised to find in a gallery.
It's evident she takes great care in her craft and also cares about doing a great job for her clients.
The hardest part of the process is choosing which photos to print out! I can say after working with Crystal, we now know what a truly great photographer can do. We'd highly recommend her to anyone.

Don't hesitate to hire CrystalGene -- she has a true "photographer's eye"
We looked at the portfolios of a LOT of different photographers online before choosing CrystalGene. Online, her framing, use of color and range of shots from formal to informal stood out. Choosing her was the best decision! Not only did we get over a thousand pictures , in both black and white and color; but her help with the event timeline and decisions about how to structure the event was invaluable. She has a wonderful eye for getting people in front of backgrounds that greatly enhance the photographs. Her description of herself as someone who loves color is totally right on!! She went above and beyond in terms of communicating, as well as graciously staying over her agreed upon time as our event ran late.
The pictures arrived promptly, and in far greater numbers that we could have imagined!! Our challenge now is choosing amongst them, for what to print out.
That is not a bad challenge to have!!!

Simply the best photographer I’ve ever worked with. I loved how bright and vibrant her photos are. I wanted something that would always look beautiful. I didn’t wish for a sepia/blue filter that might not age well. Her images are crisp and clear, and every shot looks fantastic. She can capture these unforgettable moments and somehow be everywhere at once. She is kind and lovely, and my whole family loves her. She came up with a very generous custom package. We had an amazing 2-hour engagement session, a 4-hour Indian ceremony (instead of a rehearsal dinner), a 3-hour minimony, an 8-hour big wedding, complete digital sets for all sessions, black and white and in color, and other printed products. I wanted photos because I knew it would be hard to be present and remember these beautiful moments, and Crystal has delivered. You will not regret Crystal.

What originally drew me to Crystal was that she was the only photographer I found in Oregon who specializes in colorful photography. All of the other photographers I looked into either muted or over saturated the colors of their photos. Crystal appreciates the beauty in natural colors and provides photos that match the already beautiful colors we see with our own eyes. Crystal was amazing to work with. She was kind, patient, and understanding. My husband and I are normally awkward and shy, but she made us feel so comfortable throughout our whole elopement. She really captured every special moment. Crystal, was the utmost professional. Not only did she arrange for a last minute wedding, she arrived prepared, had thought of every last detail, took shots and made recommendations that i never knew I needed. I don't know where to begin. Crystal is a wonderful photographer and person. She is professional, yet so personal! Once you finish your engagement session, she already feels like a friend. She's able to make you feel comfortable in front of the camera, and her direction is easy to follow. That is for all the portrait photos and engagement session. As of the day of the wedding, I can only call her Ninja Photographer. She got many candid shots and we didn't even know she was there. I don't know how she was in so many places at once. All the pictures she took were edited and ready for us faster than I thought they would be. I've heard of people waiting months for their pictures, not even close with Crystal. She obviously loves what she does and it shows. I, the bride, was tired of taking pictures way before she was done. Hahaha! I highly recommend Crystal Genes Photography. I would definitely hire her again. In fact, I'll be keeping an eye out for her mini sessions in the future!

We had the chance to work with Crystal last summer for our wedding. When I sent her my very first email, she responded so quickly. Everything went smooth from there. She made accommodations and suggestions that were nothing but great. She was so easy to work with from start to finish. Our pre-wedding and wedding photos turned out amazing. And to think, I don’t really like looking at myself in pictures. The days leading up to the wedding, she was in constant contact with us to ensure everything will go smoothly on the day of. And the last minute changes didn’t bother her at all. I have recommended Crystal and will continue to recommend her do the great work that she does.

My fiancé and I used Crystal for our engagement photos. Neither of us are very comfortable in front of a camera, but Crystal made the experience painless for us. The outcome was phenomenal. I’ve seen a thousand pictures taken at the waterfront in Charleston. Hers made us feel like our love is one of a kind.

Great photographer
We really enjoyed working with Crystal Genes. She was extremely responsive right from the start. We filled out a short questionnaire so she can get to know us better, and when we arrived for the complimentary "test" shoot, she remembered all the details from the answers.
The test shoot provides us another opportunity to get to know each other better. On the wedding day itself, she arrived a little early to set up, and went beyond the standard wedding shots and got creative with her framing and shot selection.
We really enjoyed working with Crystal and highly recommend her for an engagement shoot or a wedding.

We've known Crystal since she's been in Portland and absolutely love her. Any time a friend asks for a photographer recommendation she's my first and only recommendation - whether its weddings, family portraits, or head shots. She does an amazing job capturing candid moments and makes you feel so comfortable throughout the process. She's got a great eye for what will and won't work and is just a delight to work with. Crystal was really flexible with us to make sure our wedding photography package covered all of the things we wanted without pressuring us for more. She took the time to figure out what shots were important to us, and we definitely benefited from her wealth of wedding expertise (she made some very helpful suggestions to our timeline). I still get compliments about how beautifully our photos turned out. Absolutely wouldn't change a thing

Excellent experience with Crystal Gene's Photography!
We had our wedding in early October this year and really can't say enough great things about Crystal and Crystal Gene's Photography! Crystal was so wonderful to work with on every level. She was prompt, thorough, and all with a lovely calm demeanor which is a perfect contrast to the craziness of the big day.
From the start of our engagement with Crystal, her communication was fantastic. She even sent us several helpful reminders as the day approached to help us prepare. So wonderful since she has done many weddings but this of course was my first! So the helpful hints were really valuable and covered things we might have forgotten otherwise.
Her rates were reasonable and we were so pleased with the final result. Her photos are beautiful and captured the magic of our special event perfectly. The engagement session that was included gave us a chance to get more comfortable in front of the camera and to get to know Crystal and her working style.
All in all, would 100% recommend Crystal Gene's Photography. Super pro, super easy to work with. And gorgeous photos!

Crystal was fabulous. She put us both at ease and helped us feel natural while in front of the camera. All our guests commented on how the photos really captured the happiness of the day. She had great recommendations about timing for best sunlight and picked out some great spots for our photos. Crystal designed a package that fit in our budget and was flexible when we ended up asking her to stay longer than originally agreed.

Crystal captured more about our day than I could have imagined possible. Her gentle suggestions were beyond helpful and she has some kind of magic ability to be practically invisible and yet present in 5 places at the same time! The colors and emotions she sees and photographs are my favorite memories of our wedding day. Crystal was absolutely AMAZING! This young gal is very talented and professional on every level. Our weather here in Oregon isn't always the best and when I had to reschedule time and time again for our engagement photos she was very understanding and flexible. She knew how to coach us nervous birds during our engagement photos and get us in our comfort zone as both of us had never really been in front of a camera before! For our wedding she was on time (early I believe!), got right to work and stepped in when my setup crew slacked. Her prices are great - can't compete anywhere else, I say! Since the beginning of working with Crystal, she has been outstanding in listening to our interests, visions, and timeline. Crystal is extremely professional while quite pleasant and patient. In our situation, there was a family emergency which required the cancellation of the wedding. Crystal accommodated these changes, working with us to achieve an ideal situation, which forced an entire year of waiting to take photos. For two extremely introverted people, Crystal was able to draw out the beauty of relationship and adornment. The final product is nothing less than OUTSTANDING at an extremely discounted price. For the quality, price, and great gal with whom to work, you can find nothing better. So much so, my youngest daughter immediately contracted Crystal to shoot her wedding next year. With a growing list of projects, costs, and uncountable unforeseen tasks involved in the planning of a wedding, it was super important for us to work with like-minded professionals who wanted to get to know us and our vision. CRYSTAL WAS THE BEST PHOTOGRAPHER EVER! She was sweet, calm, creative and just downright AMAZING!! We loved every single photo she took! She was everywhere but nowhere; not intrusive at all and her photos of everyone turned out beautiful, even the real candid ones with everyone laughing with their mouths open! hahaha!
We don't know how she does it but everyone who looked at our photos ALL commented, "WOW, these look like they are postcards!"
She is also great at capturing emotions in still pictures, one trait that only real passionate and seasoned photographers would be able to! She definitely is ONE!
We first met on skype because my husband and I live in Singapore, she sounded very experienced and gave her two cents whenever it was needed and all that she suggested was GREAT! We had to make our decision based a lot on what we saw on her website and those pictures brought tears to my eyes and I remembered my husband and I turned to each other and said; OH! She's SO GONNA BE OUR PHOTOGRAPHER!
We met up briefly in June for a quick meeting and she made and gave us a cute little hello, thank you for choosing me as your photographer gift, it was really sweet of her.
She suggested a 30 mins free engagement session so we can get used to her camera and her style, THAT was the best suggestion ever.
All in all, Crystal was not only a bloody awesome photographer, she was VERY efficient. To give you an idea, we had our 30 mins session the evening before our rehearsal dinner, she managed to edit those photos, put them into a slideshow and showed them to us the following day!
I've never ever heard of anyone THIS seasoned and experienced to be this efficient and passionate about their work!
She's now become our friend and we'll be seeing each other at christmas!!

Crystal Genes Photography is definitely a vendor you would want for your wedding. Crystal and her team meet all of the standard expectations: professional, responsive, prepared, incredible photos, accommodating, works well with vendors, etc. But, I'm sure you'll read a lot of reviews that says that about photographers. Hopefully this review illustrates why Crystal Genes Photography is the absolute best choice!
Let me start by saying I had the pleasure of seeing Crystal and her team in action at 2 weddings: my cousin's and my own. SIX YEARS before I got married, Crystal worked my cousin's wedding. She asked if she could take a picture of the flower in my hair. At that moment, I KNEW I wanted her to be the photograph for my wedding someday. She paid such attention to detail (I mean really, the flower in a guest's hair) and her eye for unique pictures that capture the mood, emotions, details, and important moment of the day, is truly her gift.
Fast forward to my wedding- she exceeded my expectations. Crystal lives in Oregon and my husband and I live in Los Angeles. Because of her professionalism, willingness to travel, and accessibility through phone and email, the distance was no obstacle. Crystal and her team flew to L.A. for my engagement pictures and the wedding. She helped me all along the way, suggesting photo options and answering all of my little questions. If that wasn't enough, the turnaround to see pictures after the wedding was amazing!! Immediately after the wedding she posted two sneak peek pictures. REALLY soon after that, she posted a touching slide show (storyteller) and photos to share through social media.
I really can't say enough about her kindness and her talent. My husband and I are so thankful she captured the photos from the most important day of our lives because we're truly able to re-live our wedding day through Crystal's photos.

I am a bit awkward when it comes to taking pictures and need a lot of direction and Crystal was amazing in talking us through each shot as needed and made us both feel so comfortable. We are a month passed our wedding and we have officially determined that the pictures from our wedding day have been the most important part of it all. The photos are what will last a lifetime and you can trust Crystal to make sure they are absolutely PERFECT!
Before the wedding.. she was responsive, easy, and accommodating.
During the wedding..she was prepared, easy for all vendors to work with, and thorough to make sure we got all of the pictures with our family and wedding party (which I really appreciated because my mind was in other places).
After the wedding.. she was quick to get us our pictures, easy to get in touch with, and so impressive! Crystal is an incredible photographer and my husband and I were thrilled with our wedding photos along with our engagement photos! I would recommend Crystal Genes to anyone. We even booked 2 more sessions to take family photos with her! She was timely and responsive to any and all questions we had and also was very flexible with location and timing of everything. She went above and beyond for us and captured some of our most precious memories from our wedding day. She even went to the venue several days before to scout for good photo spots since our timeline was a little crunched. Crystal was very professional and her customer service was so good. We got several little "surprises" in the mail from her and we were impressed by her thoughtfulness and attention to detail. I will use her again and I would recommend her to any couple looking for a wedding photographer.

Crystal was top notch! She was always available via email to answer questions and help when we needed her. Even though our wedding location required that she travel from her studio, arranging this was hassle free and she was flexible to work with our plans. She was well organized, attentive to the style and feel of our event, and most importantly her photos are absolutely stunning. I would definitely recommend her to any brides-to-be.

Crystal was one of the most amazing photographers I have ever worked with. Her responsiveness and ability to answer my questions in a timely fashion was amazing. She made me feel truly special and captured my day perfectly. Me and my husband didn't know what we were doing and frankly felt super awkward taking photos together, but Crystal made it feel natural and I feel beyond blessed by how great they turned out.

My now husband and I were first introduced to Crystal's work when I was in a friend's wedding in the summer of 2012. We'd been looking for a photographer and my husband has an eye for these things so I trusted his opinion above all others. He was so impressed with how Crystal captured our friend's wedding, we immediately contacted her and booked her for our wedding because she still had our date free (lucky us!).
Even though we live in neither North Carolina nor Oregon, Crystal happened to be passing through our home state and we were able to have an amazing engagement session with her. From it we gained not only beautiful photos but got to know her style and I knew we'd be more comfortable on the big day.
When our wedding day finally arrived, Crystal was prompt, calm and genuine, professional and sweet. I never felt rushed but I knew Crystal was always at the helm and I trusted her as she created the story of our wedding day. She didn't ask us to go through endless silly poses, opting for more natural interactions with our wedding party and guests.
The photos were stunning. She captured all of the important moments and so many candid ones of our guests. She's putting together a beautiful photo album for us that I know we'll treasure forever. I highly recommend Crystal Genes Photography for your big day!

Absolutely amazing photography!!! We could not have asked for a better photographer or better experience. Crystal Genes Photography took care of our engagements session, bridal session, and entire wedding day and we were more than pleased with the quality of work and service. If I could rate Crystal as a 110, I would. She was so phenomenal to work with and captured the most beautiful moments throughout our engagement and wedding. She traveled across country with her associate and worked tirelessly for two days straight. Every photo we wanted, she was sure to take. Crystal just went above and beyond. We just viewed our wedding preview slideshow and that blew us away, along with every other person who had the opportunity to view it. Thank you, Crystal. It was really wonderful working with both Crystal and Ben. They photographed every detail of our wedding. And really captured all of the emotions of the day. We received so many wonderful compliments on their work from "your photographer really captured the love between you" to "just by looking at your pictures I feel like I was there." If you are looking to capture the story of your wedding and not just some snap shots Crystal Genes Photography should be at the top of your wedding vendor list.

One of the best things we did for our Puerto Rico destination wedding was to fly in a hometown photographer. Crystal was amazing. Having someone we had already worked with on our engagement shoot made the wedding day much more relaxed because we already knew we could trust her.
We worked with her from our engagement shoot, to our wedding day photography and a day after shoot. Every person who has seen our photos has been amazed by the lighting, angles and special moments she was able to capture.

Crystal and Ben did our engagement photos, I haven't seen the finished product yet, but they were amazingly fun and friendly. What can I say about Crystal Genes Photography that has not already been said about her work a million times?! Crystal went above and beyond to capture our engagements, bridals, and wedding day coverage. She was so easy to work with and knows how to make you comfortable in front of the camera. She was so great in working with a budget that she customized a photo plan that fit everything we wanted. I cannot express how amazing the pictures are! She also has the pictures ready to view in a timely manner (which is great for anxious brides)! I have and will continue to recommend her to anyone needing pictures done.

wedding photography is SO important and can be so hit or miss...but crystal and her staff are just really fantastic. the entire process from beginning to end was smooth and easy. crystal even sent us a box full of goodies once we signed our contract with her! we got a complimentary engagement session which i thought was very cool. i was very into the details of my wedding (spent a LOT of time on the small things) and crystal & her staff captured every bit of it so perfectly. crystal and becky got so many great shots and we didn't even notice they were there! i got many, many compliments on our photos and people went out of their way to tell us what a great photographer we had. her work can be classic and creative at the same time. i feel like she really reads couples well and can create a "look" based on what the couple is going for. and she's affordable to boot! i would highly recommend crystal genes photography to any bride.

Crystal Gene's Photography was wonderful. She listened to what I wanted and made sure that she captured all those precious moments. She was also very organized and had a timeline to help us stay on track and in order for her to be there to catch all the priceless and special memories. We wanted a photobooth for our guests and she and her accomplices made sure to set one up with all the hilarious props to go with. We had a blast and all of the pictures that we have will help us to make our memories last a lifetime. We definitely look forward to future memories that will need to be captured..i.e...babies that will be coming down the road...and we cannot wait to book Crystal Gene's Photography for these special moments to come. I do not even have the words to express how much my husband and I enjoyed working with Crystal. First and foremost, her work is unbelievable! We were overwhelmed by our engagement and wedding photographs. They were absolutely beautiful!! She paid great attention to details - quick notes of encouragement, regular correspondence regarding sessions and pictures, beautifull wrapped products - which always impressed us. I hired Crystal for post-wedding portrait shoot because I wanted to take some creative shots after the wedding before I put away the dress. Crystal was such a trooper, although not a rock climber like my husband and I, she lugged all of her photo equipment to the top of this mountain and maneuvered around at the top to take some amazing shots of us. I just love how artistic her photographs are.

Crystal really and truly strives to capture your best, REAL moments without breaking up the fluidity of your day. When reviewing our pictures, we wondered how she got some of her best shots, because honestly, we didn't even notice her there! Both Crystal and Ben were so awesome for my wedding. I had a difficult reception location (an aquarium) and was worried how the pictures would turn out with such low lighting, but my photographs are amazing! They really captured the feeling and spirit of my wedding day. She was so understading about last-minute changes we made to the ceremony site (due to a chace of rain) and was so patient with all the chaos going on during the reception. Crystal was also very informative and responsive to my questions leading up to the wedding and after the wedding. I will defiately ask for her services for any photography needs I have in the future. My husband and I could not be happier with the results or the service she provided. A+++++++++!!!!

Crystal and her assistant Ben did an amazing job with their pictures. They did a complimentary engagement session with us, the wedding in Blowing Rock followed and then two days later we had an awesome "Trash the dress/tux session" at Lake Gaston (Warren County). They were both very professional. At the wedding, we did not even notice them, but they captured every moment. I don't even remember all the details which I can now see on the photos. When scheduling our sessions, they were very flexible and patient. They were willing to travel with us across the state. She always returned our phone calls and we got our pictures shortly after the sessions. We never got impatient waiting for them, it was so fast. They responded immediately to our ideas and made them reality. They assisted us when we had questions and gave us creative input.
We did the engagement session with our dogs. Ben and Crystal were so patient with our dogs and us. We all had to learn how to act in front of the camera. The pictures were taken at sunrise on the Blue Ridge Parkway...Gorgeous!
Our wedding was unique and very untraditional (of course our dogs were in the ceremony) and the pictures display exactly this flair. Crystal even captured the moment of my strap popping off my dress shortly before we put on our rings and the cake in the trash can (why in the world would a caterer throw away wedding cake?). All our guests are in one or another picture. Crystal and Ben did this amazing job even without directions of us because we had decided not to have a clear time-line at our wedding. The pictures display the joy and beauty of this day. We could not ask for better memories.
Our "Trash the dress/tux session" was great. I had never heard of that before, but Crystal talked with me about it and I was immediately convinced after seeing the pictures of a bride swimming under a waterfall. You can see those pictures in her portfolio on her website. These kind of sessions are meant to be fun and different. It is not necessarily about destroying the dress...it could be however. We went to the lake where my spouse's grandparents have a house. We borrowed a jet ski and took some pictures together, I climbed up the antenna pole, jumped off the pier, and went swimming. It is much easier to swim in a wedding dress than I would have thought it is and so much fun. My spouse is a fantastic water-skier, so he did that. After all the wedding preparation stress this session was exactly what we needed. Crystal and Ben encouraged us to have fun and do whatever we felt like. I believe that during this session they took the best portray picture of me that anyone has ever taken. If you are still not convinced about doing such a session, my dress is still alive: it was only water and it pearled right off. I needed to get it cleaned anyway. Crystal is THE photographer to do a session like that with. I am already planning another one for next year when I turn 30.
Now we look at the pictures and just know that our decision was absolutely right: we could not have gotten any better photographers. Crystal and Ben are talented, professional, creative, reliable and very accessible photographers. And you really need people like them to capture this important day.

Our wedding was the best day of our lives (thus far) and we had so many wonderful emotions and feelings during the day that it was almost a surreal out of body experience. When we look back at the images that Crystal captured, it makes it an inner body experience and we feel all of those feelings and emotions again. What I'm trying to say is, there was so much happening, that half of the day flew by in a blur that I barely had a second to absorb. Sitting down to look at the pictures, we remember so much more and can really see the feelings and emotions that not only we exprienced but also those that the guests were experiencing with us. Crystal was unobtrusive and blended in with the day. Many of the pictures we love, we didn't even know she was there taking! And every time we show the albums to our family, so many more stories come up that happened during the day to really take us back and relive the moments. From the moment we met Crystal, we knew that she had the skills, understanding, and personality to really capture what was important to us. She was always at hand for any questions we had to make sure everything was in order for the big day. She helped to make sure our timeline was organized and that all the shots we wanted before the ceremony would be captured. She made working with her seem more like a personal friendship rather than a stiff business relationship. We would hire her again in a second and can't wait to have her photograph our children (when we get there!). Two words... book her!

Crystal's pictures were amazing. They were a rare mixture of: quality, style, creativity, and professionalism. From the beginning, she was thinking, working and taking pictures of us with such creativity and tenacity; she succesfully photographed all aspects of the wedding - from the beginning more formal pictures to the dance party. Crystal made our wedding photography fun. she is able to capture you images in with a relaxed and artistic flair. I enjoyed the engagement photos which we did at Cathedral Park in Portland at her suggestion. The wedding photos were spectacular and are great remembrance of a special day at Timberline Lodge!
