  The best decision we made was selecting SC Buttercup

  We met with several cake vendors and SC Buttercup was initially not on our list. After several cake tastings we thought we had decided on a vendor until they told us they could not create the design we envisioned for our cake. We were so close to picking another bakery we had met with previously since we felt we were out of options. After doing a little more online research, I came across SC Buttercup in Santa Cruz. We went in for a cake tasting and met with Molly, the pastry chef. We showed her pictures of what we envisioned for the cake and she knocked it out of the park. We had the most beautiful and unique cake that was so moist and delicious. We ordered mini cupcakes as well that complimented the gorgeous cake in the center of the table. Everyone loved them. We couldn't have been happier with our selection.

  Great wedding cake!

  We ordered our 4 tiered wedding cake from Buttercup Cakes (triple orange and german chocolate) and it was beautiful and delicious. The cake was so moist and tasted so fresh.

  Best cake everrr!

  I swear to you, this is the best cake you'll ever eat in Santa Cruz county. I love this bakery. I love their flavors. I love their promise to keeping things local, sustainable and organic whenever possible. I love their seasonality. I love that the owner delivers cakes and cupcakes personally. This bakery is one of a kind.

  These guys are the best! They offered up different options for our budget at the wedding and really made it a personal experience that we will never forget. This was the best tasting cake I have ever tasted! So worth it!!! Their customer service was amazing as well so all around PERFECTION!!! I would definately buy again or just stop by their shop and say hello!!!!

  Amazing cupcakes!

  We hired Buttercup Cakes for our wedding. We contacted the bakery and Annie invited us in to sample the different cupcakes (so much fun!) and decided which ones we wanted for the wedding. We ended up ordering 3 different types of cupcakes and one small cake to cut. The variety of cupcakes gave us a lot to work with and helped us have a dessert table with a little bit of everything for everyone. The spread was beautiful and they also provided us silver rounds for rent. The Bramble flavor (raspberry and rose) has to be our favorite. Thank you so much Annie and the rest of Buttercup Cakes!

  My wife and I booked Buttercup for both cupcakes and a small wedding cake for our May 2019 wedding. They were easy to work with, professional, and delicious! Our tasting was a fun and low-pressure experience.
  
  On the day of our wedding, our guests were SO excited to try the cupcakes. We got 5 exciting flavors… about 250 cupcakes for a wedding of 115 people. The small, 2-tier cake we got was the perfect size for our cutting, and the whole display (cupcakes + cake) looked magical.
  
  We can’t recommend Buttercup enough!

  Buttercup absolutely knocked our wedding cakes out of the park. They were delicious and received all the rave reviews from our guests.
  
  We got them involved early on in the process and were made immediate fans. Throughout the year before the wedding we would stop in and taste more of their wares at their store front in downtown Santa Cruz—we even took one of their cupcake decorating classes!
  
  Despite having the skills to now do it ourselves (har, har) we kept them on and on the day of the wedding they were amazing. Though I don't know that the bride and groom had any interactions with them personally, I do know they came in and setup on time and left an amazing spread of cupcakes and a small two-tiered cake in their wake.

  Fantastic!

  Buttercup Bakery was a dream to work with! They had so many options available and we were able to get just what we wanted. The display looked amazing and we got so many compliments on the cupcakes! Highly recommend!

  Delicious & Inclusive

  Buttercup did the cake (and cupcakes) for our wedding this weekend, and they nailed it!
  
  About a quarter of our guests are either non-dairy, vegan, gluten-free, or some combination. Half the bakers we talked to didn't know how to accommodate that... but it didn't phase Buttercup at all. We got a mix of 6 flavors so everyone had at least one they'd like... and everyone loved them!
  
  Plus they did a gorgeous job on the presentation, with multiple layers on stacked wooden tree rounds.
  
  They also catered a tea party for the bridal shower. The sandwiches and cookies were delicious, and all the guests loved it.

We had a small two tier cake and mini cupcakes and the cupcakes were the talk of the wedding. We loved how unique and delicious all the flavors were and how you could have several different flavors. We had German chocolate, lavender, triple orange with earl grey frosting, blackberry basil, & carrot ginger and all were delicious. Annie was great to work with and made everything easy- they delivered everything to our venue and set-up everything on cute wood rounds which went great with out outdoor wedding in the redwoods. We are so glad we chose Buttercup Cakes and would recommend them to anyone

First off, they make bite-sized cupcakes that are perfect for a dessert table and come in really unique and delicious flavors (blood orange was a surprise hit, as was the gluten free carrot cake!). Secondly, their staging of the desserts was fantastic. We had a camp-themed wedding in the redwoods and they presented all the desserts on lovely redwood rounds. Can't wait to go back on our first anniversary for a fresh cake!

  Buttercup was such a pleasure to work with for our wedding this past spring. Michelle did our tasting with us, and she was our primary contact for the planning process. She was so sweet and easy to work with. We chose to do mini cupcakes, and they let us chose as many flavors as we wanted! We paid extra to have them deliver and setup - it was totally worth it. It was one less thing my coordinator had to worry about, and they did a fantastic job! We had discussed a few items and flowers that I was going to leave for them to use as decoration, and their final display COMPLETELY exceeded my expectations! I was so so happy with it, and our guests raved about both the display and the cupcakes! It was really fun to let our guests chose which ones to try. We ended up having Buttercup do a small 2 tiered cake for us to cut as well - gotta keep some traditions, right? I would highly recommend them!

  Each cupcake we picked was a hit and displayed beautifully. We ordered the mini vegan fruit basket, the hibiscus, triple orange and chocolate. Every single one got eaten by the end of the day!

  We ordered 140 of the mini cupcakes from Buttercup along with renting their wood rounds to display them and they looked amazing at our wedding surrounding our cake from the Buttery (I added a picture). I supplied the extra succulents and the Buttercup staff set up and arranged the entire dessert table with them. It was my favorite table at the wedding and looked amazing. Michelle was easy to work with and even added one of their fall flavors (Apple Spice) about a month before our wedding when we sampled it and loved it. In addition to the apple spice, we had the bramble, earl grey and a vegan chocolate flavor that was amazing. Our 200 guests devoured the cake and cupcakes to the point that when I went in to return the wood rounds the next day my mom and I bought more cupcakes because I didn’t get one at the wedding. Big thanks to Buttercup for making our wedding even more special!

  Buttercup Cakes is one of favorite dessert places in Santa Cruz so it was a no brainer to choose them for our cake vendor. Buttercup Cakes don't use artificial dyes and fondant which is perfect for me. I was able to choose which frosting, filling, and cake mixture I wanted for my 5 cakes. Yes, I ordered 5 cakes and I had the most beautiful cake display. I gave Buttercup Cakes a photo for inspiration and they made it look exactly as I described. Five stars for the 5 beautiful cakes I received from Buttercup Cakes!

  We love Buttercup! We've loved their cupcakes for a few years now, so when we had a rather lackluster cake tasting experience elsewhere in Santa Cruz, it made sense to us to drop by and see if they did weddings too.
  
  SO GLAD WE DID!
  
  Michelle the event manager happened to be there when we stopped by and was able to answer a few quick questions for us and help us get a full tasting set up for later in the month. The tasting was super awesome, because you simply get to point to any (all) of the cupcakes in their display you want to try- so everything is fresh and delicious!
  
  Although they do full size cakes, we did a small cake of our absolute favorite flavor and then mini cupcakes in four different flavors so our guests could mix and match (as well as offer our gluten free and vegan guests a dessert option - because Buttercup's GF and vegan flavors are just as awesome as the ones that aren't!)
  
  They delivered our cake and cupcakes to our venue in Ben Lomond the day of, and set up everything beautifully. They used the citrus fruit and foliage our florist had sourced for us to decorate the cake and it turned out just as we had imagined.
  
  Overall it was a great experience every step of the way and we would highly recommend Buttercup for your wedding, event, or afternoon snack!

  The most delicious and beautiful gluten free cupcakes ever- people are still raving about them! We ordered mini vanilla lavender and double chocolate and Buttercup did a phenomenal job- thank you!

My husband and I were set on having cupcakes at our wedding, and after tasting Buttercup cupcakes at the Seascape Wedding Faire it was a no brainer. We ordered the mini cupcakes and offered a coconut cupcake with chocolate frosting with toasted coconut, and a lemon cupcake with lemon frosting with a beautiful white frosting rose. Both were so moist and delicious!! Some of our guests are still talking about them! Anytime we're in the Santa Cruz area, we will definitely stop by the shop on Locust for our cupcake fix. Thank you Karen for making our wedding day even more "sweet"! Cheers!

  These cakes were delicious!! I am still answering questions of "who made these?" "where did you get them?" "I can't believe how good they were!" We got a small cake and additional cupcakes, it was amazing! Everything came out better than I could have hoped. The cake was done in a lovely yellow to white ombre and the cupcakes were set up on lovely wooden rounds. Everything looked excellent by the time I got down to the reception and there were 0 issues or complications. I highly recommend them for any wedding! Or if you are near their store stop by for a delicious taste! You won't regret it.

  Tastes as good as it looks!

  After sampling some mini-cupcakes from Buttercup Cakes & Farm House Frosting we were ready to hire them on-the-spot. We're so happy we did! We originally ordered a 2-tiered cake and 120 mini-cupcakes to feed our 105 guests but, before the event we added on another 100 mini-cupcakes...that left us with a good amount of leftovers & we enjoyed them for the next few days after our wedding.
  
  I am honestly bewildered by how delicious everything was!! It tastes so good it seems impossible. We had some bramble cupcakes, some mocha cupcakes & a vanilla-almond cake with vanilla icing. All our guests were complimenting the cakes too!
  
  On top of all of that, for a small and very fair extra fee, the Buttercup team will beautifully arrange your dessert table. It is definitely worth it! Our dessert table was gorgeous!
