Frequently Asked Questions
DJ Details
Describe your DJ style: I am a very fun and an outgoing person, and that reflects in my personality and style as a Mobile DJ. I enjoy all types of music and that's what I play at weddings.
How many other DJs do you work with? None. When you contract with A DJ TO GO, you'll always get Ron Ralph. I am the owner and only DJ. I believe in first class, quality service, and there's only one way to get that. I do not sub-contract or do the bait-and-switch routine.
Do you have replacement DJs in case you become unavailable on the wedding day? Yes.
Do you specialize in any ethnic and/or international events? I can completely customize any event for any ethnic background as I am a very diversified person. I have traveled extensively throughout the world and have listened and played music for all walks of life.
Is the bride able to meet the DJ before booking? Absolutely!! From the initial face to face consultation, through wedding planning meetings prior to the actual wedding, I meet with each bride and groom at least three times to ensure their wedding is designed exactly as they envision it.
If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the couple, do you require that they provide it? No. I will purchase any music that I do not have.
What is your usual attire? My usual attire is a full tuxedo, unless otherwise specified by the bride and groom. I can dress down to a suit and tie, dress pants and shirt and tie, Khaki Pants and a polo shirt, or khaki shorts and a Hawaiian shirt. It simply is up to the bride and groom how they want me to dress.
Do you bring your own equipment? I own nearly $50,000 worth of the most technically advanced equipment there is. The only thing I need is electricity!
What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service? Karaoke, Wii, Lights, Game Show Mania, The Newlywed/Not So Newlywed Game, Video Projection, and Music Videos are all add-ons brides and grooms can choose to enhance their wedding for free.
What is your minimum amount of time you will DJ for? Usually three hours is the minimum for a wedding. Most weddings average fours hours, and some are longer.
Do you usually emcee the reception and/or talk between songs? I will be the Master of Ceremonies throughout the entire reception. I will make sure all of the formalities are announced so everyone at the reception knows exactly what is going to happen and when. Further, part of my 10 page wedding planner has additional announcements the bride and groom can choose from so their guests can get situated when they first arrive.
Do you take any breaks? Never!! I play music from start until finish!
Will you arrange for recorded music to play during your breaks? I don't have to worry about breaks. I play music continuously throughout the entire evening.
Do you require a meal break? If yes, do you require that the wedding party provide your meal? No. At most receptions, I do not normally eat unless I'm offered a meal by the bride and groom.
How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site and/or couple provide a table for you to setup on? Less than 30 minutes. In most cases, I'm completely done setting up in less than 20 minutes. Everything I have is professionally rack mounted. All I have to do is put things in place, plug in the cords, and I'm ready to play.
Do you have any extra space requirements? No. I provide my own table, skirt, equipment, and facade.
What is your overtime rate? $150 per hour.
Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge? I normally incorporate the travel fee into the contracted price.
Additional Questions and Answers
No matter who you decide to hire as a DJ, always ask keep the following in mind:
Cheap isn't good, and good isn't cheap- To run a successful DJ service, a DJ needs to make a certain amount of money to cover expenses and make a profit.
Always ask for references- As a minimum, the DJ you're considering should provide you with the names and phone numbers of at least three brides and grooms of the most recent weddings they performed at. You should also ask what wedding vendors recommend them, and then call those wedding vendors.
Are they Licensed and Insured? The DJ service you're considering should be licensed in their county and state. They should also have Liability Insurance. Don't take their word for it. Ask to see proof before hiring them.
Never use an Ipod for your wedding. It will turn into a nightmare!!
Tips and Advice
The DJ you hire will make or break your event. When considering DJ's, never hire the cheapest one base on price alone. You should budget a minimum of $800 and up for a qualified Mobile DJ.
