8 Aug, 2020The story of our wedding
We got married in Coogee Beach, Western Australia, about 10 minutes from Fremantle. The day was beautiful and perfect. Our ceremony was at sunset at the beach, and afterwards we stepped straight into our wedding reception, filled with twinkling lights and beautiful views of the coastline. The dessert bar was amazing, and our wedding cake with Pokémon Pikachu cake topper was also a favourite amongst our guests. Instead of favours, everyone received a burger box to fill with goodies from the dessert bar.We had our wedding photos before the ceremony, because we hated the idea of the guests going from ceremony to a limbo-period whilst we got our photos done. Having them done first was great because it took all the nerves out of the actual wedding ceremony!Three weeks before our wedding, we had a still birth at 20 weeks, and we dedicated the beginning of our ceremony to our baby George with a song (Somewhere Over The Rainbow) and poem (Look for Me in Rainbows). Because of COVID, our friends and family hadn’t had the chance to see us in the previous weeks, so it was the perfect way to mourn such a tragic loss with our friends and family without making it the centre-point of our wedding day. It made us feel that although George was gone, he was still a part of us. My husband carried his ashes with him in his pocket. We were so thankful that we didn’t need to postpone our wedding, or make any drastic changes to our plans due to COVID-19 related restrictions, we have been very lucky in Western Australia with COVID having hardly any impact on our community. Our wedding was the first big wedding many of our vendors had done since COVID had shut the industry down in March. It gave the day a wonderful level of excitement, and all of the vendors gave us extra special care.
