9 Oct, 2021The story of our wedding
We got engaged December 19th, 2021 and had been planning our wedding from that day forward. After almost two years of planning, it came down to three days before the wedding. I had started feeling sick and had went to get a rapid COVID test to make sure I wasn't going to put anyone at risk. I received a negative rapid test and went on my way and continued planning since it was crunch time! However, Sean and I had to receive a negative PCR COVID test result 5 days before our honeymoon. So we went, had the test performed, and sat waiting for our results. When the nurse practitioner walked into our room, she informed me that I had tested positive for COVID. We were now only two days away from our big, dream wedding we had been planning for almost two years. We called off everything. Our venue, vendors, caterers, and so much more. We didn't know what else to do, but cancel everything to keep everyone safe.
However, instead of curling into a ball and crying myself to sleep (like I wanted to do) Sean talked me into a last minute ceremony in our backyard... and I'm so thankful he did. The Friday before the wedding, Sean's family came over to help clean, do yard work, and decorate while my mom was at home making a beautiful wedding cake. We had an old arbor in the ground behind our pool, so the boys pulled it out of the ground and carried it over by our pond where I decorated it. Our photographer did not feel comfortable coming (which is okay) so my mom also spent that day trying to find another photographer who wasn't already booked. She finally did and from what I've seen so far, the pictures are amazing.

Some family members and bridal party members, such as my dad and two grandmothers were not able to come due to being (or being around others) immunocompromised. Which we completely understood.
In the end, I did my own makeup because I had called off my MUA. My mom did my hair and helped me get my dress, veil, and shoes on. Then, I was able drive to my nanny's house and stand outside on her back porch while everyone else stood inside her sunroom taking pictures. I then drove back to my house and waited in mine and Sean's room until it was time for the wedding. The ceremony literally could not have been more perfect. My grandfather was able to marry us due to being a former county commissioner since our original officiant did not feel comfortable attending the ceremony. My uncle was also able to FaceTime my other grandmother during the ceremony who has been in the hospital for over a month now battling COVID. Later that night, we had our first dance to a beautiful song that my granny recorded when she was young.
We may not have got the wedding we planned for two years, but we got the wedding that was intended for us and I am so blessed and thank God for that. I am so happy I got to marry my best friend. That night was truly my dream wedding night and I didn't even realize it could have been in my back yard all along.
The last picture is a picture taken by a family member to show the arbor. It had twinkle lights and other things placed into the leaves. You just can't see them in this picture..
