1 Mar, 2022The story of our wedding
Timeless. Elegant. Romantic.
Like most brides, I have dreamed of my wedding day my entire life. However, this day was more than I ever could have imagined. I was a disabled bride, and am a disabled wife. To say I never thought this day would come would be an understatement. Thankfully, God had other plans...
We met at work when my department moved into a new building and the AC was acting up I put in a facilities request, and little did I know the AC tech who answered the call would be the one I had been waiting for my whole life. I noticed his smile first. He was easy to talk with and made me laugh. A whole two years later (yup) it was 2020, and we reconnected. After a few days of chatting, Ryan asked me out to dinner... and the rest is what they call history.
In March of 2020 we took a weekend trip to Prescott with friends. It was our first trip together. It was a nice weekend getaway full of exploring Whiskey Row, eating good food, and dancing. We both later admitted that this trip is where we fell in love. Fast forward to March 2021 and our same friends and us decided to do a 'reunion' trip. Little did I know Ryan had been planning for 2 months to have this trip be when he asked me to marry him. Ryan asked for my parent's blessing before the trip and picked out the ring. We went exploring at Watson Lake and found a cool overlook. I do photography on the side, so my friends asked if I would bring along my camera to take pictures on the trip, which I thought nothing of, I do that all the time. My friend asked to see my camera to get some of me and Ryan. While taking photos, Ryan got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Simple, beautiful, and romantic. If you'd like, one of my friends took the engagement video and made a sweet montage of it. Our wedding was in Phoenix, Arizona at a private estate located on the base of South Mountain. I was a half DIY Bride, and half 'Dear Lord, please someone else do this!' Bride. I knew exactly what I wanted the space to be, even made a PowerPoint (Yes, hello, I am Monica Geller). Which, brides, make a vision board...so when everyone has an input on literally anything you can look at your board and hold yourself accountable so on the day of you're not looking at anything other than what you have dreamed of.
My then Fiance, is a sneakerhead. He looked at my one day and said that he would like to wear Jordan's as his wedding shoe. With a sneaker head older brother, I thought that was really cool and unique. He found the shoes he wanted, and that became our accent color.
Our colors were black, white, and dusty blue; with a theme of romantic, elegant, and timeless. Every detail was perfect, we also jumped the broom as a part of my families heritage, and the broom was made by my mother. It was very important to us that our wedding be accommodating not only to me, but our guests. We put a lot of detail and thought into the guest experience. From having beverages and flavored popcorn prior to our ceremony, to a great cocktail hour, open bar, and lawn games (giant Jenga, checkers and corn hole); to a killer DJ, amazing food, and a Pizza Cookie food truck...We had it all.
I would do it all again, the exact same. It was perfect.
Our vendors included: Maya Papaya Photography, Aurora Events (for all of our rentals), Z Catering, AZ Bartenders, Amani Jae Entertainment (Tyler Cole as DJ Take 2), The Scookie Truck, Maddie B's Gourmet Popcorn, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Kokonut Creations (Wedding party florals), and Rule 27 Design (for our invitations, table numbers, guest seating, and welcome sign).
What you see as our wedding was designed and planned by myself, with the massive amounts of help from family and friends to make sure all the little details were captured.
I am incredibly proud of all my vendors hard work to make my dream come true, that I was fortunate enough to marry the man of my dreams, and that we held true to ourselves in the process. I hope my vendors, or these photos help other couples along the way.
