The story of our wedding

We rented out Pablo Escobar's old mansion-turned-hotel for 9/9/21 - 9/12/21 for all 148 of our guests. Our wedding weekend started with a welcome party/groom's birthday party at a club nearby the venue/hotel that we also rented out for our guests. Friday night was our rehearsal dinner beach party, which we had on the venue. It included boho-chic decor all around with cozy seating, string lights, drinks, and an amazing Mexican DJ. Our wedding day ceremony was a Persian "Sofreh Aghd." This is a traditional and ancient cultural ceremony, which includes a table set up in front of the bride and groom with various items on it that symbolize marriage (i.e., a mirror for the bride and groom to see their reflection for the first time as husband and wife, candles to symbolize good energy/light, eggs to symbolize fertility, etc.). During the ceremony, four happily married women hold a piece of embroidered fabric over the couple while another married woman grinds cones of sugar over the fabric to symbolize the "sprinkling of sweetness" from one marriage to another. For our ceremony, we had a custom-made installation built above us with greenery and tiny mirrors flowing down from it. The installation was beautifully reflected on our table, which was a huge mirror itself. Our reception was on the venue/hotel's beach where we had a massive stage built with hard wood flooring, railings, and palm trees peaking through the ground. Our marble dance floor had another installation custom built above it with ribbon and string lights hanging down. Our table decor was boho/romantic style with large floral centerpieces of pastel flowers. The table settings included mix-matched dishes and a mini version of our sugar cones for each guest as a party favor. Our entire wedding design was inspired by the venue itself, which was purchased by a famous art collector, Lio Malca. Modern art is scattered all throughout the venue along with the gorgeous jungle greenery that is so quintessential Tulum.
