1 Dec, 2018The story of our wedding
Michael and I were married on December 1st, 2018. We are both historical reenactors, which is how we is how we meet. In fact Michael proposed at the beginning of the queen's progress at Escondido Reniassance Faire. We decided to have a Victorian themed wedding. For our venue we choose the Christmas House in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. It was built in 1904 and is a gorgeous Victorian house. They go all out on the decorations for Christmas and the house looked amazing.
I sewed my wedding dress out of royal blue dupioni silk trimmed with white lace. The skirt has white rosettes at the top of each of the swags. The dress is patterned after the fashions of the 1860s. I made two tops: a day jacket, which I wore during the ceremony, and an evening bodice for the reception. I also made Michael's waistcoat. I needed a wig because unfortunately I have lost most of my hair due to chemotherapy treatments for breast cancer. My wig was done by The Historical Hairdresser and she dyed it a custom color. Most of Michael's outfit were items he already owned although I did find him an antique top hat from Etsy. He was wearing custom cufflinks engraved with our initials and wedding date. Our friend, Kate, made holly and white rose boutonnieres for Michael and his sons and a matching corsage for me.

Our wedding party was made up only of Michael's two sons who acted as ushers and held the rings. A capella music was provided by Tom's four adult children. Instead of the traditional wedding entrance song and having my dad walk me down the aisle we entered up the side aisles while singing the duet "The Dancing and the Dreaming" from the movie, How to Train Your Dragon 2. Our friend, Tristan, surprised us with a sword arch at the end.
The reception was held inside the house. Catering was provided by Spaggi's Italian Restaurant. The cake was by Cucamonga Cakery and was snickerdoodle favored (Michael's favorite cookie) and filled with a cinnamon cream cheese. We were treated to a special a capella arrangement of "God Bless the Broken Road" by Tom's children. Our first dance was to "Beauty and the Beast."
The whole event was beautiful and amazing. The Christmas House was the perfect setting and it was made even more special by our friends dressing in Victorian as well. The decorations the house did were amazing and took a lot of work off our plates. I loved how all of the elements came together, from the clothing to the venue to the music, because it was such a celebration of the two of us.
