1 Sep, 2018The story of our wedding
John and I got married at a The Barns at Hamilton Station, which is a local vineyard near my hometown in Loudoun County, Virginia. We had been together for almost 3 years after meeting at the gym. Our beginning could only be described as awkward at best, since it took us several months to even speak to one another. Instead, we spent these months staring at each other from across the spin studio and awkwardly turning away once our eyes met, and even culminated in the both of us walking home next to one another, but still not speaking. But, once we broke the ice, that was it. We haven't looked back. If you ask John about how we met, he would say "It was a long con and it worked."
John designed my engagement ring using his grandmother's diamond and it was everything I could have ever wanted. He proposed to me upon returning from NC (where he had the ring designed) and as I opened our front door, he was kneeling there and said he had no need to wait, he knew what he wanted! We had a rather quick engagement (less than 7 months), but it was plenty of time to pull together all the details for wedding. We knew we wanted a carefree, relaxed, and fun environment for our friends and family and as soon as we walked into The Barns, we knew it was the venue for us.

I found my dress at Wildflower Bridal in Asheville, which is owned by one of my very best friends from college. Not only was her boutique and service amazing, but having one of my oldest friends there with my mother was so touching! She knew exactly what I was looking for before I even knew it! And, since John is from NC, I thought it was a nice nod to his home state!
Fast forward to our wedding day and everything was going well! The weather in the week leading up had been off and on thunder storms, but that day started off just fine, even a little too hot and humid during our initial photo session before the ceremony. As soon as our ceremony began, the clouds rolled in and just as I was walking down the aisle to Adele's "Make me feel your love", the skies opened and just POURED on us. What was great was that we didn't budge and neither did our guests! They sat there and rolled with it and laughed alongside us! I could not have asked for anything better! By the time we were done, all of us were soaked to bone and couldn't care less. It was really a bonding moment and set the tone for the rest of the night!
