2 Jul, 2021The story of our wedding
My husband and I have been officially 'together' since April 24th, 2014. We met in kindergarten and he was my first 'crush' - he liked another girl named, Grace, but I knew he'd be mine one day. We have lived together in our first home since January 1st, 2017 and have three pets; a dog named Mira, and two cats, Penelope and Hades. We got engaged on January 29th, 2019 after a Bring Me the Horizon concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. He had surprised me with tickets to the concert in September 2018 and I believed the best moment of that night would be seeing my favorite band! We waited about a year and a half to chose a wedding date and start planning our wedding. We booked our wedding venue in March 2020 a week before the COVID pandemic hit full force in our area. Wedding planning went smoothly for most of the last year until May 2021 when our venue canceled due to guest count limit. We scrambled to try to find another location to host our event and landed on the Bush House Estate in Muncy, PA. The men's tuxedos didn't arrive in the shop until Tuesday June 29th and there were issues with them from the get-go. Unfortunately, someone from the shop mixed up certain measurements on each of the men's tuxes when ordering and all 12 that arrived needed something altered, something ordered over-night, or had something that couldn't be fixed or ordered in time and we just had to deal with it. I watched the weather like a hawk the week prior to the wedding and was devastated to see rain showers all day on the forecast. On the day of the wedding, the weather was sunny and warm and all chances of rain had disappeared from the radar! I was ecstatic. Our ceremony started at 5:15 pm and all our guests had arrived early! I walked down the aisle with my step-dad and father with the sun shining and bird's chirping! All I could focus on was the huge smile my fiancé had on his sweet face and in that moment, I thanked God for no rain! No sooner did I hug my dad and grasp my love's hands when we heard a loud clap of thunder and a torrential downpour started; it even hailed! (Since when does it HAIL in Pennsylvania in JULY!?). We both laughed at our luck and asked the officiant to cut the ceremony short - almost all the guests had run for cover under the covered front porch of the venue, all except my close family, bridesmaids, and the groomsmen who stood/sat in the rain as we jumped to rings and were pronounced husband and wife. We rushed through some pictures while the rain held off and were announced until the covered tent as Mr. and Mrs. Switzer! We immediately went in to start our first dance (I picked the song You're still the one - covered by Jonah Baker months before even though my fiancé said the song was 'lame' when I asked him to dance to it back then but he agreed without any begging). Before the dance started, the DJ announced that there was a message for us on the big screen TV set up on his table, a TV I didn't notice was even there. On the screen pops Jonah Baker wishing us both a happy wedding, I was absolutely shocked especially when we got to the end of the video and he said, "Your family thought it would be better if I just came and sang to you in person." I turned around and looked around the tent and there was Jonah Baker walking into my wedding with his guitar. He serenaded us for our first dance and I forgot all about the rain, the hassles we dealt with wedding planning, and the sadness I felt that my wedding day would soon be over. We all danced in the rain later in the evening and had the best time of our lives! We keep reminiscing over and over and wishing we could find a time machine to go back and live in that day forever. We both agree there's nothing we would change about that day except the fact it had to end.
