25 May, 2019The story of our wedding
Jake and I have been friends for years. He works as a barista at my favorite coffee shop, and one day as I was doing office work there, it just clicked. He was the kindest and most lighthearted person I knew. I made my move on a spring break cruise and pretty soon we were inseperable. 8 months later, Jake proposed on our favorite rooftop in Johnson City, TN with a ring, my favorite pizza and beer, and lights strung everywhere. We didn't want to be engaged long, so we started planning like mad people.
We spent a lot of our dating season beside the river, dreaming and eating cheese and crackers. So there was no better place for us to get married than on the river at the Watauga River Lodge. It's a little fly fishing lodge with zero things making it a wedding venue, but we saw it in our heads and we went for it! Our family and friends spent so much time with us, stringing lights in the trees, moving brush, and turning this little space by the river into a boho wedding venue of our dreams.

And so many of our people were there to celebrate, cry, and laugh out loud with us. The river creates this perfect breeze at 6 pm, like built in air conditioning. Surrounded by our people under the trees, our best friend married us as we all cried and cheered and took in the glory of it all.
We had a pizza truck making wood fired pizza all night, a DJ playing all of our favorite songs, a wildflower covered cake, and endless spiked Cheerwine slushies.
One of my favorite touches was the banner Jake and his groomsmen hung on the steel bridge you drive over to get to the wedding. So many little touches like that made it the best day ever for us. And the DANCING. Dang. Our friends and family were so fun all night (maybe had something to do with the slushies,) and it felt like we danced forever.
My favorite part of it all was obviously getting married to Jake, but a moment I'll never forget was when the dancing ended and we were about to leave through the sparkler tunnel, Jake looked at me and screamed, "CAN YOU BELIEVE WE JUST DID THAT???" It was exactly what I'd been thinking all night. It was all too good to take in!
Wow, thanks for giving me a spot to get my thoughts out about our wedding!!!
