25 May, 2019The story of our wedding
We met in college at Virginia Tech and through my study abroad semester in undergrad, Harsh moving to Minneapolis after graduation while I began veterinary school in Virginia, we had a lot of obstacles to overcome. Through Skype dinner dates, phone calls and weekend visits, we made the ditance work. In December of 2017, Harsh surprised me by driving 16 hours and proposing to me in the beautiful Hahn gardens amidst candles and string lights. It was the easiest decision I've ever made!
Wedding planning was a little stressful as we were funding our own wedding without help from our families and it was all from a distance. We finally found the perfect venue in Martinsburg, WV, about 1.5 hours from my hometown in Maryland. Once that was booked, the pieces started falling into place! I found a newer photographer with great potential to save some money, we bulk ordered our own flowers to do DIY bouquets and decorations, my friend made a Pinterest-perfect cake for us and I found my dream wedding dress at a bridal consignment shop in Minneapolis. If you can get a little creative, I promise dream weddings on smaller budgets are possible! :)

In fact, my friends showed me a radar video where the storm seemed to literally part to miss Martinsburg durign the outdoor ceremony. It was so special to have all of our family in friends in one place. We had a sweetheart table, which we highly recommend because we got to eat and spend a few moments alone together before visiting with the rest of the tables as they finished their dinners.
A lot of little things "went wrong" like the 2nd photographer never showed up, we forgot to put out the programs and the cake almost fell over... but none of those mattered! We had one great photographer to capture the day, the programs weren't needed and my friend fixed her cake with some wooden dowel rods. All that mattered was that we got to marry each other and celebrate with our loved ones.
My favorite memory from the wedding was when we went danced in the pouring rain near the end of the night! We were all warm from dancing and it was so refreshing, silly and fun!
Some other fond memories: the rehearsal dinner and the beautiful dress Harsh's mom brought from India for me to wear, writing our own vows, the feeling of walking down the aisle as a newly married couple, the hilarious bridal party entrances, jumping to Enter Sandman (a Virginia Tech tradition) and dancing the night away with our friends.
