14 Sep, 2018The story of our wedding
The whole journey from engagement to wedding was a rollercoaster. He had to ask me to marry him 3 times before he got an answer (the first time I didn't hear him, we were at a concert and it was spur of the moment for him, the second was him basically teasing me because I knew he wanted to ask and he knew I wanted him to ask but I kind of messed up the opportunity) and the third time was driving to breakfast, He had bought the ring and sent it for sizing that morning but git so excited he just had to ask. He got his answer that day and I was told in 2 weeks after my ring was sized I'd get a "real" proposal. 2 weeks turned into 5 impatient weeks, his grand proposal plan got ruined and so he ended up asking twice after he got my ring back finally to make up for all the roadblocks. Once at my favorite restaurant over dessert and then again on a bridge in our hometown.
We were engaged (officially w/o the ring but with his answer) February 1st, 2017, we decided off the bat we wanted a September wedding, so we decided on 9/14/18 giving ourselves a nice window to prepare and gather the money (being 20-something and pretty broke is hard). We toured one venue and went with it. All the major details were handled within 6 months. our biggest hiccup ended up being everything we chose to DIY, we should have started on those projects so much earlier, so all our decor ended up looking nothing like my original vision but was all made with love by my mom.

My goal was to be at the venue at 9 a.m., I got there at 11 and my husband got there around 11:30. I managed to jump into hair and makeup and then write my soon-t0-be husband a letter. (I cried reading his before walking down the aisle) The only thing that stayed on the timeline that day was our ceremony. it was SO hot, (Mid-September in Wisconsin is usually around 65-70. It was 85 with 90% humidity.) It was miserably ht but everyone was a trooper. I really enjoyed hearing my husband's handwritten vows. We had special touches all over our wedding day a literary fairytale theme, decor handmade by both my parents, ceremony officiated by my dad, coffee from our favorite coffee shop, my husband wore a kilt and cut the cake with a sword. There were so many hiccups and things that didn't work and crazy little moments and then there were those few quiet moments where the world just kind of stopped and we went "Oh my God, we just got married." and knowing I married my person truly was my favorite part of the day and made it all worth it.
