28 Dec, 2018The story of our wedding
We are both low-key, easy-going nuptials and originally didn't want a wedding! It all started with having a courthouse ceremony, evolving into our family wanting to party afterward, and ended up being a 150-person party reception at The Marina Del Rey Hotel. We wanted guests to feel the intimacy and the warmth of our personalities, so we cut the wedding agenda and just threw a party instead. We wouldn't have had it any other way and guests loved the simplicity and being able to mingle with everyone.
We got married at The LAX Courthouse and had our 15 closest family members attend - including our grandparents! It was very intimate and we could really feel the love between us and from our family. We were excited and nervous; I'm happy we went with the vows they had us repeat instead of the ones we wrote - it was well said and captured everything we love about each other. At the end of the ceremony, the Judge had me look my father in the eye and tell him my new last name! It is definitely an end of an era for that name, but excited to start the journey with my Husband.

Since it was so small, we were able to personalize each seat and come up with custom table names for each attendee. After dinner, we flipped the room for a cocktail party, had the open bar on the veranda and the photobooth overlooking the marina. We decorated an archway with eucalyptus and purchased an LED sign that said "besos" (kisses in Spanish) to hang over the photos.
The reception had about 150 of our closest friends and family. We had cocktail tables setup inside and outside, with heat lamps outside. Guests could sign our polaroid guestbook, mingle inside and outside, help themselves to the appetizers, and order from the open bar. Nobody had to feel forced to speak with guests they didn't know or listen to speeches from people they hadn't hear of. It was great to be able to go around and chat with everyone and the party kept going! After the reception we moved to the hotel bar and shut it down :)
The flowers were done by California Petals, photos by Alexa Noelle Photography, dress from BHLDN, suit from Bonobos and the venue was The Marina Del Rey Hotel.
