11 May, 2025The story of our wedding
They say love comes when you least expect it, and for us, that couldn’t be more true. Alissa, 50, had never married and had no children. Christopher, 55, had once been married and was the proud father of three grown children, the youngest just turning 18. We had lived very different lives, shaped by time, experience, and the belief that maybe—just maybe—love had passed us by.We met online, both of us hesitant and realistic. The kind of romantic optimism that fuels the young had long given way to practicality and guarded hearts. But in each other, we found something unexpected—connection, laughter, comfort, and a spark that neither of us thought we’d feel again. What we found wasn’t a fairytale—it was something more powerful: a love grounded in choice. Every day, we choose each other. We choose to show up, to listen, to support, and to laugh—even when life isn’t easy. After two and a half years of building a life together, we celebrated our love in front of friends and family. Our wedding wasn’t just a ceremony—it was a declaration. A declaration that love can come at any age, and that it’s never too late to start a new chapter. This kind of love is deeper, wiser, and more intentional. It isn’t built on youthful idealism, but on mutual respect, understanding, and the experience of life’s highs and lows. We know what matters. We know what lasts. So, to anyone who thinks it’s too late or that their story is already written: don’t give up on love. The heart has no expiration date, and sometimes, the best part of your story begins when you least expect it.Our wedding took place on May 11th; it was Mother’s Day—a beautiful tribute to the women who shaped us and a reminder of the love that runs deep through generations. The ceremony and reception were adorned with cherry blossom trees, each one delicately decorated with fresh white and blush roses suspended by ribbon. It wasn’t just about the beauty of the cherry blossoms; it was the meaning behind them that spoke to the very heart of our love story.Cherry blossoms symbolize the fleeting nature of time, the delicate beauty of life, and the profound grace of new beginnings. In Japanese culture, they represent renewal and the reminder to cherish each moment—a message that felt deeply personal to us. Walking down the aisle of cherry blossoms, we felt everything the cherry blossoms represent— hope, beauty, transformation, and the quiet joy of beginning again. Falling in love later in life gave us a unique perspective. We know how precious love is and how rare it is to find someone who feels like home. Alissa walked down the aisle in a breathtaking Martina Liana gown—an exquisite blend of timeless elegance and modern romance. The dress, custom-tailored to reflect her unique style, featured 75 shimmering Swarovski crystal buttons cascading down the back. Every detail was thoughtfully chosen, making her not just a bride but a vision of grace, strength, and beauty.Christopher stood by her side in a classic black tuxedo and tie, sharp, sophisticated, and effortlessly handsome. His look was understated and timeless, letting the emotion of the moment speak louder than any accessory could.By Alissa’s side were her two gorgeous nieces, radiant and confident in bright pink strapless dresses that celebrated their youth and energy. They embodied a playful elegance that brought vibrancy and fun to the day. Their gowns were youthful yet refined, a perfect reflection of their personalities. The mother of the bride was a showstopper in her own right, wearing a stunning silver lace gown that exuded grace and refinement. She was the very image of beauty and elegance. Together, we weren’t just dressed for a wedding—we were dressed for the beginning of forever.Of all the incredible moments on our wedding day, one stands above the rest—the moment my father walked me down the aisle. At 50, I never imagined I would still have the chance to share that experience with him. It wasn’t easy for my dad physically, but with strength in his heart, a walker for support, and a smile bigger than the sun, he stood by my side and walked me toward the next chapter of my life.It was more than tradition—it was a moment filled with love, pride, and gratitude. His presence, his perseverance, and the joy on his face reminded me how lucky I am. That walk down the aisle wasn’t just a passage into marriage—it was a memory I’ll treasure forever.Friends and family gathered from near and far, filling the space with warmth, laughter, and love. During cocktail hour, guests were treated to enchanting entertainment by a floral-adorned violinist, setting the tone for an evening full of wonder. And the food, more than anyone could ever imagine, flowed freely, delighting every palate and heart. As the sun set and the stars came out, the dance floor came alive. The Spotlight Band from Hank Lane had everyone on their feet, from the very first note to the last. We danced, we laughed, and we smiled—because joy was everywhere, in every corner, on every face.It wasn’t just a wedding. It was a celebration of love, life, family, and the beauty of beginning a new chapter with full hearts and open arms.Love doesn’t follow a schedule. It may not arrive when you expect it, and it often doesn’t look the way you imagined it would. But when it’s right, you’ll know—not because it’s perfect, but because it’s real. Never give up on love.
