9 Jun, 2018The story of our wedding
We met and were engaged in 2017, we met in February and were engaged in December. He surprised me on a magical day traveling around downtown Minneapolis, looking at Christmas decorations. We stopped by a tree for a selfie, I was siting to look at the picture and when I looked up he was on one knee with a sign that said "Sunshine, will you be my Mrs. Something Wright?" a play on words from a favorite song of ours. The ring was embedded in the sign.
We were married on a beautiful sligtly overcast, but not rainy, Saturday in June. I was warm in my dress, especially as the day went on, but other than a couple falls, I felt like a princess. Brian's face when he saw me for the first time, was the best moment! Other than our cupcakes almost not making it, as we were in the woods and the delivery person got lost, the day went off without a hitch. I'm certain there were little things that could've been different, but it's not anything I recall. Most of my vendors were people we or I knew including our photographer and caterer. We had a Taco bar that was amazing and got lots of compliments. We chose to skip cutting the cake, but did include a bouquet and garter toss, which was so fun. Since we're both Disney fans we had touches of Disney throughout our day, including my surprise for Brian, etched glasses for us to drink from featuring Belle and the Beast.
Continue reading »My dress was inspired by Belle's beautiful yellow ball gown and our first dance was Tale as Old as Time. We used Disney couples instead of numbers for our tables. Probably the biggest hit was the bouncy castle we had for entertainment of the young ones...though many adults enjoyed it as well! My dad is a minister and Brian's was ordained so they preformed our ceremony together right down by the lake, so beautiful! My father in law included that our guests must wave at passing boats on the lake, which resulted in fun and giggly wedding guests, and a very confused but ablidging bride. I have so many wonderful memories and photos from the day, as well as a video. We weren't planning the video, but my mother in law wanted one and enlisted help of a family friend. While it's not the most amazing quality, it's a wonderful gift! I'm a daddy's girl through and through so having mine involved beyond just giving me aways was so awesome! Also our father/daughter dance which was to "You'll be in my Heart"! I can't think of anything I would change, we had fewer guests than maybe I was expecting, but it was absolutely perfect in that we were able to really interact with everyone. We went over our originally inteded budget as things added up quickly, but we still spent less than the money which was gifted us for the wedding from his parents, which was such a blessing!
WeddingWire was helpful in planning, as the app was my go to for budget, addresses and so much more. I was able to keep track of what we had and still needed to plan, all in one place. I also love that we had the free website as a resource for our guests, especially those from out of town who needed to find hotels. We were also able to leave them notes about the best way to find his parents cabin for the big day!
Advice for Brides to be....don't stress the small stuff. Know that something will go not quite as planned and relax. The day will fly by and it's not worth the stress. Take moments to take in the scene, it will all happen so fast and you'll want memories of everything that you can have. Your hard work ahead of time will pay off and the most important thing in the end is that you are married to your best friend!
Note: in our first look pictures Brian only has one eye covered because he is blind in his right eye. We are both cancer survivors and this is a complication from his first bought as a child. We feel so blessed to be survivors and this is a part of our story.
