Si does a beautiful job with alterations! My dress had a dropped waist with ruching and an applique around the middle, and I wanted that entire middle section of the dress lifted up so it lies more at a natural waist. With all the extra details in the midsection of my dress, it was actually a pretty complicated job, but Si did it beautifully and you can't tell the dress had anything done to it at all. She even spruced up the applique a little, and it blended in beautifully :)Si does a beautiful job with alterations! I found Si on yelp and was so glad I went with the positive reviews! After reading some horror stories about wedding gown alterations gone wrong, I was pretty worried about who I would entrust with my gown. Meeting Si at her house, her calm, pleasant demeanor made me comfortable and you could tell she was extremely experienced. (After all, she used to make wedding gowns). Luckily my dress didn't need a whole lot of altering, just the sides a bit and the bustle. Although I didn't have any comparison point (I decided to go with my gut and just have Si do it), cost seemed reasonable from what I heard from others. Si create a unique bustle for...I found Si on yelp and was so glad I went with the positive reviews! Si was recommended to us by our wedding coordinator, Crystal Lequang of Amazae Special Events. She is a super nice lady who works from her home. I believe she is less pricey than most seamstresses and does very detailed, thorough, and amazing work. Her quote was about half as much as another seamstress I met with.
I had a lovely Anne Barge dress that needed to have a bustle and boning put in the front to have it lay more flat. She did an awesome job! She also made the bustle color coded which made it very easy to deal with on a very hectic day. We also had Si do the alterations on my Chinese cheong...Si was recommended to us by our wedding coordinator, Crystal Lequang of Amazae Special Events. I found my perfect wedding dress on sale and had to grab it even though it was several sizes too big and way too long (since I am significantly shorter than the usual hem). After having our original boutique seamstress move away before she got to my gown, we found Si through recommendations and can't believe our luck. Si charged significantly (hundreds!) less than the seamstress at the bridal boutique to practically custom-make this gorgeous dress to my body. During each visit she was so sweet and listened to the vision that I was hoping the end would turn out to be. And in the end - I almost cried tears of joy! How can you not love Si? (It's pronounced "sigh" by the way). Si is tiny and wears these cute two toed Japanese socks and has lots of cool Japanese artifacts. This review is about her alterations work though so I'll get cracking.
Si works out of her house so you get a good price since you're not paying for overhead. I think the alterations for my wedding dress came to $125 or $175 (I can't remember now). It would have been more but my shoes made me the most perfect height so she didn't have to make any changes to the length.

In addition to my dress, I provided her with silk chiffon fabric and she made five scarves for my bridesmaids by hand.
It's no wonder that in her dressing room you'll see 20 other wedding dresses she's working on concurrently (all of them probably Knotties since they all rave about her).
Update: Now that the wedding's over I go back to see Si and have her hem my pants. I think it's $7 for machine hem (visible stitch from outside), $10 for hand hem (no visible outside stitch). She also took in a top of mine for only $5. -

I really wanted to love Si Arima. She had the best reviews and prices for her services. However, I wasn't happy with the way my dress fit when it was finished so I ended up not wearing it and getting another dress. Part of it was the dress style (mermaid) and my body type (wide bust, small hips) so I don't want to blame it on Si because she did a great job minus a few details. The dress needed to be taken in a bit more in the waist and around the legs to maintain the mermaid style but it was only taken in at the hips so I looked very straight with a wide waist and some...I really wanted to love Si Arima. She had the best reviews and prices for her services. However, I wasn't happy with the way my dress fit when it was finished so I ended up not wearing it and getting another dress. Other than that the seams were clean, the lines straight, the bustle looked AWESOME.
Her pricing was better than most and she was super sweet. The fit was my only disappointment, but like I said half of the issue was the dress style on my body. With some more direction and fittings I probably could have fixed the situation to my liking.
She was booked for the wedding season so I had to do my fittings much earlier than normal. I was done with my last fitting two months before my wedding.
I would still recommend Si for her professionalism, pricing, and value.
