Excellent choice of officiant

Ms Joan was very easy to talk when we were creating our vows & ceremony schedule. Her calm and sweet demeanor was just what we needed in creating meaningful vows that really expressed the couple we are.

Wedding during pandemic

Joanie was super flexible and nice. She was on time to our wedding. Joanie was extremely professional. And before our wedding she was able to answer any questions we had. I recommend her to anyone who is plannimg to get married during a pandemic , a time that has been extremely stressful. Thank you Joanie!!!! Ohhh and she took pictures of us! :D

Splendid Grace Bestowing Our Union With Ceremony

Ocean gales buffeting us, we shrieking with laughter as our dog (the ring bearer) runs away and back with our wedding band, divine timing blowing our vows nearly into the lapping surf, Yehudah so very gently and patiently transcends the euphoric hubbub to begin presiding our ceremony.

As soon as he begins speading, a precious calm sweeps in, reverence bubbling up within us all.

From the grace of his phrasing to the beautiful poems specifically suited to the day of my beloved and I that he chooses, everything this man contributes to the day is enriching, thoughtful, sparkling,

Caring, flexible and easy to work with!

Joanie went above and beyond with anything we requested for our "Micro Wedding" ceremony and offered their lovely backyard to hold the ceremony, which we gladly accepted! :) Making edits to the ceremony was a breeze and Joanie promptly responded every time. They even sent us photos and videos that we'll cherish for years to come. A++ and highly recommend to anyone!

Beautiful Ceremony despite quarantine

Joanie is amazing. She walk you through every step of the process and helps personalize every part of the ceremony. Despite the quarantine nearly forcing us to cancel, Joanie was awesome and helped us adjust our ceremony so we could still get married on our chosen day. Our ceremony was beautiful and very unique. Thank you Joanie for helping us adapt and create a one of a kind ceremony!

A Simple and Beautiful Handfasting Ceremony

Joan Levine is an absolute delight and carried out our ceremony with the upmost professionalism. Joan invited us into her home and suggested a hand fasting ceremony based on my Celtic roots. We decided on Peninsula Park as the venue, the service was short yet beautiful set against a backdrop of a clear, blue sky and glorious sunshine, perfect for an intimate, outdoor ceremony in Portland and in the month of November!

Truly The Personal Ceremony We Were Looking For

Yehudah officiated our wedding on June 28th at the Griffin House and did an amazing job!

A little backstory:
My wife Talita and I had been looking for an officiant who could wed us while incorporating some Jewish traditions. All rabbis in the Portland area were booked far in advance and as the big day approached we were getting worried we wouldn't find the right person. Then, we were referred to Yehudah. Immediately upon meeting him, we knew he was the right person. He is warm, honest, kind and has a great sense of humor. He took time to learn who we were as individuals and our goals as a couple. He helped us craft a ceremony that really felt unique to US and we couldn't have been happier. He communicated with us during the whole process over email, phone and in person so that we were all on the same page when the wedding day came. He was also a hit among all of our guests who really felt his presence brought a calming, light-hearted and natural vibe to the ceremony. We highly recommend Your Personal Ceremony!

Awesome Officiant

Thank you so much for working with us, and doing an outstanding job officiating our wedding. Both of our parents have been raving about how much they like you, and tons of our guests let us know how impressed they were too.

From the very beginning at our first meeting, we knew that we wanted to work with you and we didn't need to meet with anyone else to officiate our wedding. Joanie is so kind, and very helpful. My husband and I looked through some sample wedding ceremonies that Joanie had performed in the past, and we got to use some ideas to help us create our very own unique and perfect ceremony. It really was our Personal Ceremony.

Super Helpful and Great person overall

Joanie helped us more that we can truly explain. Our original officiant bailed on us days before our wedding and since we travelled in from Edmonton we were in a bit of a pinch. With some help we found Joan, and it probably turned out to be the best thing that happened. Not only is she professional, she helped us build a ceremony that worked for us. She also recommended a different location in the Gorge than we were planning on using and it was beautiful. Thanks for everything

Unique and personal

Joanie was a wonderful officiant. She worked with us to create a one of a kind ceremony. She was open to working with us coming from different religious backgrounds. Joanie was also flexible with us having a change of date after we had everything planned.

We chose Joanie to officiate our wedding based on online reviews and we couldn’t be happier with our decision! She was great with communication from start to finish. She invited us to her home for our consultation and spend over an hour getting to know my husband and I so she could tailor our ceremony to us. She had an entire bin full of previous ceremonies that she was able to go through and pull out ideas for us. Going into our consultation with very little idea of what we wanted in our ceremony. She was incredibly helpful at giving us ideas and inspiration on how we wanted our ceremony to go. She kept in touch with us all the way up to the wedding to make sure everything was in place and ready for our big day. She was prompt on wedding day and kept everything very organized for us. She communicated with our DJ and guests to make sure everything went smoothly. The ceremony was perfect and exactly what we had hoped for! We highly recommend Joanie and her husband to anyone planning a wedding!

Joanie and Yehuda were everything we were hoping for and more. From the very first meeting with them for planning until the very end of our wedding ceremony everything had a seamless flow. Yehuda was just perfect for our wedding. He did a perfect job, and helped so much with all the planning too. He has much experience but also is sensitive, and gives great advice. We did a blending of two cultures and Yehudah was the ideal choice for that. We highly recommend Yehudah!!!

Joan Levine, from My Personal Ceremony, was such a fantastic officiant! She was wonderful to work with and did such a great job running our ceremony and our rehearsal. I had such a great time talking to her the first time we met, I knew she was the one I wanted to officiate our wedding.

Since I’m Christian and my then-future husband is Muslim, we wanted a ceremony that incorporated faith, but wasn’t too heavy on either religion. Joan did a perfect job blending our interests to make a traditional ceremony that touched on our cultures and faiths, but didn’t overtly swing toward any one religion.

She had so many great ideas about unity ceremonies, readings, and poems, and she was really excited about and open to all of my ideas. She did a great job blending modern and traditional elements from different cultures and religions. I loved how open-minded and friendly she was. She really was just excited to be a part of our big day and celebrate our love. She asked us tons of questions about our relationship and our goals, and then incorporated those things into the actual ceremony.

She was super professional. On time to everything, and her and her husband were so sweet, and such a treat to sit and talk with at the rehearsal dinner. Really wonderful people. I would definitely recommend them for personal, professional, and open-minded treatment from a great officiant.

Joanie and Yehudah are an incredible team! They gave us both the freedom and guidance to create a ceremony that reflects our values and family traditions. On the actual wedding day, the ceremony was simply magical, I cannot imagine a more meaningful way to start our married lives together! In terms of organization and logistics - Joanie responded with quick and constructive feedback to all of our inquiries and on the actual wedding weekend they took care of all of the ceremony and marriage license details. It was great!

Joanie was amazing. She was able to capture exactly the sweet simplicity we wanted for our day. And was willing to hike out to a waterfall to officiate our elopement. So many officiants we talked to wanted us to "select a ceremony from this list" which just isn't us. We wanted it to be sweet, special and unique to us. She made that happen. My husband and I have been together for over 3 years and with the renewal of our medical insurance plans coming up at work, we decided it would be a good time to elope! Even though we're planning on having our own event later that involves some rather nontraditional ceremonies to be done, we wanted to make sure that this legal formality went as smoothly, quickly, and nicely as possible.

I couldn't have asked for a better person to make all of this happen for us. Joanie really made the whole process painless and beautiful, even with less than 12 hours to prepare. I literally called her up in the morning and set up a time to come by their welcoming house and beautiful backyard garden to get married that same night.

If you're planning on getting eloped and don't want to do it in stuffy old courtroom with someone that probably doesn't care about you at all, I highly recommend giving YPC a call. I checked with a few other resources listed under a "Justice of the Peace Portland" internet search and found them to not only be the most affordable option, but also the most welcoming as far as their online presence goes.

Thank you, again, Joanie. We'll certainly "have a nice life" and I hope you do the same. =]

We couldn’t have chosen a better person as our ceremony officant! Joanie exceeded our expectations with joy, comfort and support. She has a breadth and depth of different spiritual practices. We even told her where our honeymoon was and because she is well traveled she shared tips and literature with us. She also helped us with day of coordination and made sure what we told her was in order. She knew everyone’s names, joined us in dancing and had all of the legal paperwork ready. She made us feel really comfortable with her.

Joanie and Yehudah let us use their space for our ceremony. It was a beautiful day and we had our ceremony in their backyard. Before we got there, Joanie and Yehudah made sure everything was set up for us. We were able to use their home to get ready, we were able to play music. Joanie provided us with a wonderful ceremony that was personal and beautiful. She was non judging and so helpful. She even helped us pick the perfect setting and offered tons of options and material to help us write our vows. She was organized and made everything flow. Her energy radiated love. Both Joanie and Yehudah (Alan) were great to work with! We had an initial meeting with them and they really made an effort to get to know my husband and I and cater the ceremony to our personalities. Both were extremely responsive to emails and it was an easy process to get our ceremony nailed down. Yehudah performed the actual ceremony and was professional and everything went just as planned. We were extremely happy with their services and would recommend them to others!

We chose to have both Joanie and Yehudah officiate our wedding. They were great, and they both have such a loving energy; it was truly a pleasure to work with them in making our ceremony a beautiful moment. We started early, and promptly became very busy with other things, but Joanie kept us on track in getting our wedding ceremony written, and vows finalized. We were provided with a lot of material to help guide us (other wedding ceremonies, ring vows, how to write your own wedding vows, etc), which really gave us direction, and helped us plan the content of our ceremony.  

We chose to use the framework that Joanie and Yehudah provided to create a truly personalized ceremony and blessing. The great thing is that they are open to whatever you choose to do, whether you leave it entirely up to them to craft with little input, or they will closely work alongside you if you wish to co-create something more complex and personalized.   

We chose not to have an official rehearsal, as our wedding was quite small (30 people), but on our wedding day, they took the stress away of instructing our wedding party in how they would proceed down the isle, etc, so I felt more relaxed! Overall, they helped make our ceremony exactly the way we wished it to be, and I appreciate both of their lovely spirits being present to officiate our special day.

My husband and I were so happy we chose to work with Joanie. We were drawn to her services because her style is so flexible- we were going for a secular wedding with jewish traditions. She had wonderful ideas on how to include my husband's middle eastern background, and include my stepson in the ceremony in a very meaningful way. We also really appreciated the vast collection of readings and ceremony styles that she had for us to peruse, choose from or just derive inspiration from. Finally- she put a lot of time into our ceremony. I don't know how other officiants work, but we really appreciated the time and effort she put in to helping us bring everything together. We weren't the most diligent clients and so we appreciated her coaxing us through getting everything done on time:) We happily recommend her to brides and grooms looking for an officiant!

WOW!!! I can't believe it's going on 3 years already and i am just now getting around to leaving a review. All i can say is that Joan and Yehudah were amazing. My wife and i had our innitial Minister come down with the flu and did not think that he was going to be able to make it with only a week until our wedding. After searching we found Yehudah and told him our situation, he was very compasionate and helpful, and he took his time to go through his many options for ceremony blessings and traditions so that we could put together the ceremony of our dreams.

I cannot thank them enough for all that they did for us.

Because of Joanie, our ceremony was absolutely beautiful and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. She smoothly and seamlessly intertwined our backgrounds and personalities into a meaningful and personal ceremony that was absolutely perfect. Several people commented to us that it was one of the most beautiful wedding ceremonies they had ever seen, and we have Joanie to thank for making it so wonderful for us.

When we hired Joanie Levine to be our officiant, we had some interesting requests in that I (the bride) has a Jewish background and the groom has a Scottish background and we wanted to find some way to work both into the ceremony without being too religious. From our first meeting, Joanie understood our needs right away and had lots of examples to show us. Most of our ceremony was inspired by what she already had on hand, and therefore made the writing process much easier on us. Joanie was very knowledgeable, insightful, and patient in guiding us through this. She was very thorough and made sure all details were taken care of, including having a chuppah for us to rent. At the rehearsal, Joanie took command and really made sure we went through everything so each person knew what they were doing.

This is not a wedding officiant who makes you feel like you are one of ten weddings they have that day. Joanie put a lot of time and thought into our wedding, and she made it really special for us. I am forever thankful to her!

I contacted Ana two weeks before our elope date. Not only was she available during the busy holidays, she gave us time and attention so that we were able to create a very special, unique and customized ceremony. We even used their home as the venue for our ceremony! All for a really great value that surpassed the other prices I saw online. We loved working with Joanie!!! We are so pleased with how our ceremony turned out!!! My husband and I live in Arizona and we got married in Portland. We found Joanie through an online search and worked with her online, phone and email for a year before our wedding. It was difficult planning our wedding from out of state but Joanie made planning the ceremony seamless! Joanie helped us create a truly unique ceremony that included everything we wanted! Working with Joanie on our wedding was absolutely amazing! Joanie co-officiated with my husband's family's pastor and it could not have gone better. She also reviewed the language on our ketubah for us, which I very much appreciated as we have it displayed in our home. Joanie was diligent, extremely attentive, positive and incredibly helpful every step of the way. She helped us create a ceremony that was a perfect blend of Judaism and Christianity while not being too long or religious for us. Joanie and Yehudah performed a wonderful interfaith and inter-nationality ceremony for us during the summer of 2011. They were great to work with as we wove together Jewish, Christian, American, and Caribbean traditions into one coherent ceremony (all while keeping it short and sweet!). We were also able to put together a ceremony that pleased both our religious and non-religious friends and family.

We would highly recommend them to any couple looking for a highly customized, completely personal wedding ceremony. Their experience provides enough structure to ease the ceremony development process along, while retaining enough flexibility to let the personality of the couples to truly shine through. We had a wonderful experience with Your Personal Ceremony. We met with Joanie and Ana early on to discuss what we wanted in a ceremony, what was important to us and what had drawn us together in the first place. Reminiscing about the early days of our relationship was a delightful highlight during the wedding planning! They were with us every step of the way helping to put together a ceremony that reflected us perfectly. We are not religious people and drew on imagery of the Earth and our community-- they helped us incorporate these things. On our wedding day, Ana conducted our ceremony with grace, humor, and spirituality that made us feel "really married". My wife Dara and I are celebrating our 1 year wedding anniversary today. As we were reminiscing about the incredible wedding day we had, we decided we should take a moment to thank one of the people who was instrumental throughout the experience - Joanie Levine.

From our first meeting we knew Joanie was the right choice to officiate our service. She was very reassuring and it was obvious that she was deeply invested in working with us to create a wedding ceremony that was uniquely expressive of who we are as a couple.

Throughout the planning process, Joanie helped us navigate the confusing procedure of expressing our personal feelings and values in the form of a wedding ceremony. We were able to pull from seemingly disparate sources of personal inspiration and weave them together into a beautiful, seamless ceremony.

Being a couple of mixed nationality and religion, our challenge in planning our wedding ceremony was finding an officiate who could provide a non-denominational, yet spiritual, ceremony. The ceremony not only had to satisfy both of us, but also our (very religious) immediate family members. We interviewed a number of officiates, but as soon as we met Joanie and Yehudah we felt a connection. They were completely professional at our initial meeting and came prepared with sample ceremonies and were full of helpful ideas and inspirations. They immediately understood our situation, and took the time to get to know both of us individually and then how we fit as a couple. This helped them to guide the ceremony planning process, and over the course of a few months through email communication we put together the perfect plan. They truly want you to create “your personal ceremony” by using their expertise and combining it with your vision. They also conduct the Rehearsal, which was an extremely helpful event. My husband and I were able to practice everything that was involved with the ceremony, discuss timing, and it allowed us to be completely comfortable on our wedding day. We were lucky to have both Joanie and Yehudah as officiates for the wedding, and the dynamic of the two of them combined with their meaningful and perfectly timed delivery of the ceremony was amazing. The ceremony was everything we could have dreamed of, and Your Personal Ceremony is responsible for that. We will never forget this most cherished part of our wedding day.

Joanie was not just helpful in getting our vows together for our ceremony, she was instrumental. The consultation was great; Joanie interviewed us about our background, families, how we met and what we were looking for and gave us examples of vows and ceremonies she had done previously. Joanie co-officiated my wedding just over a year ago and I am still getting compliments from friends and family about the ceremony! We were so extremely happy with Joanie and Yehudah!!! If you're looking for a great couple to officiate your wedding, call them! My husband and I wrote our own vows and they offered some really ideas for the rest of the ceremony. They are so experienced. They were just absolutely wonderful to work with! What a wonderful experience! Joanie made both of us feel completely at home from the get go. She's experienced and has the gift of making people feel comfortable. We appreciated all of the thoughtful touches that she added in from asking our input as to where and how the ceremony would be conducted before the wedding, to arranging for witnesses (we wanted to have a small private ceremony) to allowing us to have our dog present at our ceremony. It meant the world to us that she did as much as possible to get to know us, decrease our stress levels and to heighten the enjoyment of our day as much as possible. We picked the best possible officiant and we highly recommend her for all couples whether they are eloping, renewing their vows or looking for a skilled and kind officiant. Due to having a destination wedding we had reservations using an officiant we didn’t know, but after our initial Skype video interview we signed on the dotted line.

With our daily full schedules we were able to easily correspond with Joanie via e-mail.

We knew we wanted to combine the elements of the Jewish religion with our personal beliefs.

Joanie provided several examples of interfaith ceremonial to choose from that adhered to our desires.

We had our intercultural, interfaith wedding in Portland, Oregon in September 2010. Joanie and Yehudah from Your Personal Ceremony were great at guiding us through the process, being helpful but giving us space to express our own thoughts and ideas, and generally being very nice and supportive. At the rehearsal, Joanie, our officiant, was both friendly and welcoming to everyone, and at the same time had all the authority needed to get a bunch of bridesmaids and groomsmen plus family members together on the same page -- literally. Joanie and Yehuda are a warm and perceptive couple. My husband and I liked them immediately. They suited our balance of being non-religious, but wanting to incorporate our histories and traditions in to our wedding. They helped us through the entire process to help create the ceremony. By providing their experience and structure to the ceremony, we collaborated to make a wedding that was perfect for my husband and me. Joanie led the rehearsal like a pro, who has had to wrangle big, raucous wedding parties like our before. And the ceremony was beautiful. In February 2012, I contacted Your Personal Ceremony after finding their website online. I was looking for a non-religious officiant for my wedding who was still spiritual and familiar with ritual. Response was prompt from Joanie and soon we set up an appointment to meet with her at her home. The sliding scale fee made it possible for us to afford having the kind of wedding ceremony we wanted. When creating our ceremony she had a wealth of ideas but remained open to anything we wanted to do. She quickly responded to any email of questions or requests to make changes. She kept us organized and on track with deadlines and reminders. On the day of the wedding she came fully prepared and was a calming center for me. I was completely terrified of getting in front of people and right before the ceremony she came and held my hands and did a mini-meditation exercise with me and gave me great advice which really pulled me together and helped me keep it together during the whole ceremony. Overall, my experience with Your Personal Ceremony was positive. My only regret is that I wasn't able to get to know Joanie more- likely due to my own aloofness. We received so many compliments on the ceremony! Everyone said it was one of the best and most unique weddings they had ever been to. I will definitely use Your Personal Ceremony again for any ceremonial needs that I have in the future.

we just had our wedding last weekend with personal ceremony Joanie did a wonderful job she very responsiveness and she listen to what we wanted we had a outdoor wedding she has different vows you can choose from or you can do your own the ceremony we had was just perfect for our out door wedding she did a great job

Your Personal Ceremony was helpful in suggestion, efficient in operation.and an exceptional value. The staff are very attentive, receptive to the customer desires and very home-friendly. They also have a valuable sense of humor and can handle new direction with ease.. My wife and I would recommend them if you prefer a custom ceremony, a traditional event, or one just crazy enough to involve Dr. Seuss, of Cat in the Hat fame...A great little group with the Bride and Groom as their central focus. The only reason YPC doesn't get 5 Stars is because 1 man's ceiling is another man's floor, myself? They deserve 'em !!

Personable. Loved all the different examples of past ceremonies and reading passages to choose from. Loved the personal consultation. Our officiant, Ana, was very nice. However, given that the ceremony was outside, she has a very quiet speaking voice. Should think about bringing a small microphone and amplifier in outside venues. She also seemed to read the ceremony rather than perform the ceremony, this combined with the outside venue, the impact of the ceremony was a little flat.

My husband & I got married on June 27th, 2010 by Joanie & Yehudah. There are two separate reviews to this, one for the planning process & one for the day of the wedding. We really enjoyed working with Joanie & Yehudah throughout the planning process. They gave us as much time as we needed for the initial interview process & were really responsive to any direction we wanted to go with the ceremony. They were very responsive with getting to us with emails & phone calls.
All went well & professional until the day of the ceremony. We had gone over the ceremony so many times so we didn't think anything could go wrong. Well it did. We had decided to include a paragraph honoring grandparents dead & alive that couldn't make it to the wedding. They didn't bother to check with us before hand for the correct pronunciation, so they butchered both our families last names. Also when Yehudah was reading his part, he accidentally made it sound like my alive grandparents were in fact dead.This sounded really bad because it was the first part of the ceremony, & one of the most important.
Our dads were also supposed to have a part in the ceremony, as agreed upon before hand & they blazed through it instead.
Joanie & Yehudah are really kind people, but they didn't deliver a ceremony that I would recommend for prospective couples.
