We had a great experience with Rick! He is personable and well spoken. We appreciated that he provided a suggested ceremony template with several choices for each component of the ceremony. This allowed us to craft a ceremony that felt true to ourselves without the heavy lifting. He also took the time to meet with us in person a few months prior to the wedding to prepare.

We quickly connected with Rick on our first introductory call. It was clear he wanted to get to know us and our vision for the ceremony. Hire Rick now!! He is the best!
Where to even begin with a review for Rick! My family has been incredibly lucky to know Rick for almost 10 years, as we first met when he was the head concierge at the Charleston Place Hotel. There, Rick quickly stole our hearts as he has always been the most kind, personable and well-connected man in all of Charleston! Flash forward 8 years when I got engaged, I knew exactly who my family would love to work with as an officiant. Rick exhibited such kindness and assistance to me and my family while planning our wedding during a pandemic. Due to COVID, we had to move our wedding date, and Rick was so kind, understanding and flexible with us on that. He even drove 4+ hours each way to help us! I did not know where to begin when creating the wedding ceremony program, but Rick eased my nerves by providing multiple readings, poems, offerings and vow examples to help craft our perfect ceremony. On the weekend of our out-of-town wedding, our perfect 70 and sunny weather drastically changed to 40 and raining sideways, and since our ceremony was outside we quickly had to pivot. We were able to find a church inside and reached out to Rick and the rest of our guests the morning-of our wedding that we changed venues... Again, Rick was so kind, understanding and helpful in making us feel calm and collected during the chaos. I truly cannot recommend a better officiant, and friend, to have on the day of your wedding. Rick has such a welcoming, calm and loving personality that means the absolute world to you and your nerves on your wedding day. I really cannot recommend him enough!!

Richard was the kindest person and one of our most helpful vendors! He was very organized in his planning and made his services clear to us as well as flexible in tailoring our ceremony to the way that we wanted it exactly. On top of that he was proactive to work with our other vendors to make sure our ceremony went perfectly which it did! I highly recommend Richard!

Richard is fabulous. As soon as we had our first phone call with him, we knew he was the person we wanted to officiate our wedding. His guidance throughout the entire process of creating a ceremony script was invaluable. On our wedding day, he was so organized and had a calming presence, which was much needed. Richard beat all expectations! He has an amazing presence and voice that made the ceremony incredibly beautiful and beyond what we could have ever expected. He showed up on time, he was prepared, he made the process leading up to wedding day easy for us and organized but unique and catered to us. He made some adjustments the day of for the better, which were excellent and allowed his wisdom and experience to shine through. Great experience with Rick!
We had such a great experience working with Rick for our March 6, 2021 wedding. My husband and I unfortunately had to postpone our wedding due to the pandemic, and being able to bring Rick onto our vendor team during the rescheduling process was such a silver-lining.
Our incredible wedding planner, Cayleigh (from The Petal Report), recommended Rick and we had such a fun experience planning our ceremony. My husband and I were looking for some traditional elements, but also some personal pieces, and Rick did a great job incorporating all of those. He’s kind, professional and we were fortunate enough to meet him in person during a planning trip before our big day. We really appreciated the resources and examples he sent over, as we had no idea where to start with ceremony planning. We loved being able to choose what was best for us and making it completely our own.
Rick also did a great job running our rehearsal in tandem with our planner. The process was very straightforward and our entire wedding party and immediate families really appreciated the rehearsal being efficient and to the point - which made the surprise ‘extra-time’ we had for a drink before our rehearsal dinner a great start to the festivities.
We felt so confident Rick would do a great job day-of and HE DID. He is so well spoken and there are so many little things that couples ‘think to remind their officiant of’ - Rick already had it covered. He also made my husband and I feel so at ease during our ceremony and really had our guests focused on us.

Rick officiated our elopement (which was originally supposed to be our wedding, but things changed thanks to COVID). Rick was SO flexible and kind. Every single change we had, Rick worked with. I’m not sure if Rick should be in the category of best kept word of mouth secrets or not, but I’ll go ahead and leave him a review anyway! Words can’t describe the fantastic professional service Rick provides from the moment you inquire about him. He is so responsive and treats you like family. He really truly cares about each couple he marries and It shows. Rick is so organized and helpful and honestly, Did more footwork for us than people that charge $1200+ for very simple planning services. If you’re looking for a minister to marry you in the Charleston area- book him. If you’re not in Charleston, try to get him anyway. He’s so worth it! Rick does this because he loves it. He loves people, he loves joy, and he loves life. He knows how to be classy and formal and can also be casual and as relaxed as you need him to be. Treating people how they desire to be treated in the service industry is not easy and Rick is the best of them all. Do yourself a favor and hire him before someone else does!

Perfect choice for officiant
Rick was amazing to work with. He communicated well, was kind and professional. We didn't have a family pastor to hire so we were nervous about finding someone, but Rick did a perfect job. We were able to customize the ceremony exactly how we envisioned. Choosing an officiant is a personal decision and my husband isn't easily trusting but he felt super comfortable with Rick. I would definitely recommend him!

Rick was absolutely wonderful. We were married in Asheville (planning from out of state) and he was always easy to get a hold of. He genuinely cared about creating a ceremony that was perfect for us. An absolute must...
My husband and I could not have imagined anyone other than Rick officiating our wedding. He responded extremely fast to emails and had a plethora of examples of readings and vows to make sure our ceremony was customized for us. He truly does have a way with words to make the ceremony so reverend. His professionalism and generosity extended further from the ceremony though. When we got back from our honeymoon, copies of our marriage license were already at our house because he took care of everything, legally, after we signed the papers the day of. Rick is truly gifted at what he does and you will not regret booking him to officially pronounce you as husband and wife!

We recently used Rick as our wedding officiant and I am so so thankful he was a part of our special day! Rick is excellent across the board! He is professional, personable, and outstanding at guiding you through the process; both logistics/legalities and the ceremony. We wanted our ceremony to be unique (writing our own vows, etc) but also needed guidance on what else to include. Rick did a phenomenal job helping us write our ceremony by providing quality resources and immediate feedback. He is seamless at crowd control too- our rehearsal/wedding day went very well thanks to him!! Best officiant ever
One the reasons our day went as well as it did was because of Rick. I cannot thank him enough for everything he did to make our special day so perfect. We were from out of town and he offered to meet up with us so we could get to know him a little better, talked to us over phone, emailed back and forth several times, etc. Rick is literally one of the sweetest people I have ever met and made me and my fiancé feel so cared for. He stayed through all of our pictures after the ceremony and offered to carry anything we needed. He asked if we needed reservations, flowers, anything. He had us send in vows separately so we couldn’t see each other’s until the wedding day. If you want the best officiant for the price, Rick is your guy.

Simply the best!
Rick was wonderful to work with - professional, super nice, charismatic..I could go on and on! We were planning our Charleston wedding from Charlotte, NC so from the moment we spoke to him on the phone we knew that we needed him to officiant our wedding. He also came highly recommended from our wedding planners. He sent us so much material to look through to help lay out our ceremony and make it uniquely ours. He was also so organized and professional during our rehearsal which was needed to keep our motley crew of a wedding party quiet and paying attention! His also picked up our marriage certificate from the Clerk's Office before the wedding and filed it with the office after our wedding - which was absolutely amazing! Thank you Rick! Rick is the absolute best!
Working with Rick for our wedding in April was such a pleasure. After reading countless amazing reviews online, we knew we had to get in touch with him. As soon as we got on the phone (we were planning from out-of-state), it was clear that Rick was a true professional, but he was also warm and kind and seemed like the perfect person to officiate our wedding. We were right!!!
Rick truly took the time to get to know us as a couple and paid close attention to how we envisioned our wedding ceremony. He sent us many resources to refer to when thinking about the flow and texts for our non-religious ceremony and was incredibly helpful in the process of acquiring our license.
We only got down to Charleston once before the wedding and were lucky enough to get to meet with Rick to iron out some details. We were a little all over the place in our ideas, but Rick was able to take our thoughts and put them into a perfect execution.
My family is from France and it was important for me to make them feel welcome and included, and Rick took the time to add french flares here and there that were just the cherry on top of a perfect ceremony. It was truly special.
At the rehearsal, Rick made everyone feel so comfortable and made sure everyone involved in the ceremony was prepared and confident. He answered everyone's questions and took the time to get to know the "key players". He is truly the picture of professionalism and such an incredible person to work with.
As we hoped, the ceremony was truly perfect and so meaningful. Our guests are still raving about it, and so much of that is thanks to Rick! We could not recommend him enough!!!!

Sailing Wedding
Rick was our wedding officiant for our wedding ceremony aboard the sailing yacht Fate in Charleston. He did so much more than just marry us, from helping plan the ceremony with amazing recommendations for bakeries, bridal party services, photographers and florists, Rick helped us plan details of the wedding that we were clueless about! He even picked up our flowers on our wedding day and brought them to the venue. He kept in communication up to the big day and even after. We still keep in touch with Rick and make it a point to see him and catch up whenever we are in Charleston. He takes a lot of pride in officiating weddings and is very professional to do business with. Best wedding officiant EVER!
We don't know where to start! Without Rick, our wedding day would not have been the incredible day it was! We came to Charleston in May to begin to plan a wedding for the fall. We ended up eloping and getting married within 48 hours of arriving! Thanks to Rick we experienced the most incredible time imaginable. Rick assisted us with all the right last second referrals to bring everything together.... clothes, rings, photographer, venue...... Absolutely Amazing!
I can’t say enough good things about Rick. My wife and I live in New Jersey, along with all of our friends and family, but chose Charleston as the destination for our wedding. Due to the distance and inability to plan in person, there were some obstacles. However, with Rick, we never felt this. In fact, it was as if we weren’t even having a destination wedding – that’s how responsive, available and helpful Rick was throughout the process.
From our very first phone call, we knew Rick was our guy. He made us feel comfortable even though we had no idea what we were doing . Rick is very knowledgeable and goes the extra mile to make the whole process easy. My wife and I were looking for a non-religious ceremony under 30 minutes and Rick helped us put together the perfect vows and readings. During the few visits we did make to Charleston before our big day, Rick always made sure to take time out of his schedule to meet with us. In addition, Rick helped with our marriage license knowing the difficulty we faced from the distance.

As many of you look to start planning that magical day, you should look no further than Richard Burton! I can’t say enough good things about him but he was first class personified. He’s presence is soothing and calm yet he has everything under complete control from start to finish. When things start to get a bit chaotic, he steps right in to lead the group. But the most important quality in my opinion, is Rick genuinely cares for everyone. I felt he was an extension of your family. With eyes closed, he should be at your wedding!

Simply Amazing!
If you are looking for a wedding officiant in Charleston then Rick Burton is your guy! From the first time we met him we knew he was the perfect fit for our wedding. He is extremely personable and makes you feel comfortable and at ease when around him. During our first meeting he asked us several questions and walked us through everything we needed to know. He gave us several ideas to think about and even offered to learn Czech and Portuguese phrases for the ceremony. He truly went out of his way to make our wedding special and did an amazing job. We cannot say enough glowing things about Rick. Choosing Rick as our officiant was one of the best decisions we made! From our very first conversation with Rick until the moment we stood in front of our friends and family we were comforted, confident, and at ease. Rick’s professionalism, organization, and genuine, kind-heart radiated every step of the way. My Husband and I absolutely LOVED working with Rick. He was there for us anytime we needed him, like when we didn’t have pocket squares for the groomsmen on our wedding day he was so nice and offered to pick some up! He helped us to write the perfect ceremony and was able to deliver when it came to conducting the wedding! Anytime I needed him he was there, he made sure I wasn’t nervous and was very flexible with us and made our vision come true. He was early to our wedding which was great, dressed exactly like I asked him to and more. He was also very affordable and you will get more than what you pay for. We would highly recommend him!!

Rick was incredible! Everyone loved his demeanor and how he delivered our vows on our wedding day. I am Christian and my now husband is Jewish and Rick did an excellent job of intertwining our backgrounds and families into the ceremony. He handled anything and everything we threw at him and we couldn't have asked for a better officiant to marry us. He was so kind to our guests and even after the ceremony, stuck around with us during pictures to make sure we (bride and groom) had drinks and appetizers coming our way - talk about going above and beyond! We highly recommend Rick! He feels like a family friend to us now!

We had an amazing experience with Rick as our officiant! He was professional throughout our back and forth emails whilst we wrote our ceremony and always knew the "norms" of how the ceremony was supposed to flow, which was very helpful. He even brought his outfit options to our rehearsal so we could pick out which color tie he should wear. And throughout the whole process, he joked and made us laugh to keep the mood as it should be, light and fun. We love Rick and highly recommend him to anyone looking for a truly great officiant!

It's hard to expand on the glowing reviews that Rick has from other couples but I will let you know they are all true. Rick is one of the most spectacular people you will ever want to meet and he will go out of his way to make your special day all the more memorable. I'll start by saying that we had a tough time finding a wedding officiant due to our wedding date, Easter Sunday. We met with a few other people who all seemed nice enough but would not commit to our day. Then Rick came along. Not only was he happy to accommodate our requested day he was far superior to any of the other people we had previously met. Our first meeting with Rick was in a small pub where he went over everything we could imagine and the things that we couldn't. I might add it was most impressive that he showed up to that meeting in a tuxedo. After the meeting we left with the impression that he was someone special and we had to have him perform our service. By the next day our decision was reaffirmed when Rick sent us an email thanking us, going over everything we discussed, and providing us with a list of ceremony elements. In the following weeks Rick and I worked out the details of the ceremony down to the last element. He was really open to anything we wanted to incorporate and sent us numerous emails with the program elements all laid out. He offered to do any leg work we needed, like get our license, or find coordinators, hair people, etc. By the way, Rick should be the first person to talk to because he can put you in touch with anyone else you will need for your ceremony. The day before the ceremony Rick showed up, early and in a tuxedo again, he walked us through the ceremony from start to finish and explained everyone's role. Our wedding day went off without a hitch and it is in no small part due to Rick. He even did a lot of the behind the scenes coordinating to make sure everything was perfect. He truly loves what he does and if I could I would give him 10 stars.

My husband and I got married in Asheville last October and highly recommend Rick as a wedding officiant! Since my husband and I live in Chicago, we communicated with Rick over the phone and over email up until our wedding rehearsal. He made himself available to us and was always easy to get in touch with. We didn't meet him in person until the day before our wedding, and he immediately put us at ease during the rehearsal. He was extremely professional and made us think of things that we never considered when selecting a wedding officiant. He made sure to ask what color suits the groom and groomsmen were wearing so that he could coordinate accordingly for the pictures. He had a lot of different ideas for the ceremony and tons of examples for us to read through and choose from. The day of the wedding, he was incredibly articulate and well spoken during the ceremony. Overall, my husband and I are very happy and couldn't have asked for a better experience!

There's really not much else we can say about Rick that hasn't already been said in previous reviews.
Rick was very professional and organized while also being fun throughout the entire planning and ceremony process. He put up with our, unfortunate, low responsiveness and various planning issues without any hassle. He went above and beyond to provide us some voice recording equipment on the day of the wedding (even letting us keep it and return it at a later date at no cost) so that we could attempt to record our ceremony.
You can tell absolutely that Rick has a passion for what he does and ultimately for making sure you are happy every second he is around. I would never hesitate to recommend him to anyone that is looking for an officiant.

We hired Rick to be our officiant for our elopement last fall. Given that the ceremony was just myself and my husband (no guests), we wanting our vows and such to be intimate and personal, but without being over the top. Rick was an absolute dream and catered to exactly what we were looking for. He sent over tons of inspiration and poems and experts and we were able to customize exactly what our 20 minute ceremony would entail. We also love that he focused on small details: like bringing a small bag to hold our rings before the ring exchange. He also reached out to our photographer to see what color suit my husband was wearing so he didn't clash. Little things like that are what made our day so special and so much fun. We communicated via email, in planning the service and in writing of the vows. Rick was caring, attentive and so helpful in the process. Where do I begin? Rick Burton was our wonderful officiant of our spectacular wedding at Magnolia Plantation in Charleston, SC. Rick was professional, warm, kind, funny and an absolute perfect compliment to our ceremony. We were blessed by the most gorgeous setting on the banks of the Ashley River and we had the most amazing professionals to share in our day.
Rick set a lovely tone for our ceremony and performed the vows beautifully. We were so happy that we found him and would highly recommend his services to any bride and groom getting married in Charleston.

We were one month away from a wedding on St. Thomas when hurricane Irma hit and destroyed everything. We were devastated and scrambled to find our next destination. We picked Charleston since we visited last year and fell in love with the area. Then we found Rick Burton. He went above and beyond expectations to make sure our wedding would happen with just 3 weeks to plan. His assistance from recommending the photographer, Kim Graham (who is awesome), along with hair/makeup (Lashes and Lace), to the bridal bouquet, which he picked up and brought to our seaside wedding, and the marriage license is something we are truly grateful for. Rick’s suggestion of an arbor on the beach was a great idea and one that is so memorable especially getting it into the SUV! There aren’t enough great things to say about Rick for quite simply, he is the best!

As we were having a destination wedding, he was very helpful and met with us several times. He is incredibly friendly, well spoke, well dressed, and knows how to command an audience. Our special day was a destination Wedding. We had agreed to Charleston but did not know a sole. Our introduction to Richard came as a result from our caterer/venue manager whom spoke very fondly of Richard.
From the moment we met to the detailed suggestions - from planning, up to and including our special day - he was there for US. He is clearly a seasoned professional who knows all of the in and out's of how to make your day special. His vast experiences, knowledge of the area and contacts is quick to ease the anxiety of planning. In fact, we did not use a Wedding Planner because Richard was able to help us find, connect and select those things that WE felt were most important.
Beyond his professional demeanor, Richard became a true friend during the year long planning process. As a friend he was able to get to know each of us a individuals, partners and what ultimately drew us together. In the end, he was more than the officiant - he was our friend.

If your looking for the perfect officiant, look no further. Richard Burton is professional, friendly, and great at we he does. We interviewed countless officiants when planning our SC wedding from TX. I was starting to panic because I couldn't find anyone that blew me away until we met him. I didn't want the same boring, traditional service but I wanted someone to respect our religious beliefs along with someone that looked good in our pictures. I know, I'm really picky but all of that was important to me. He really captivated the moment and made something unique that captured our hearts and our friends/families. He was also so kind. He catered to us throughout the entire process and even lead us in prayer at my reception dinner. He went above and beyond and we are so happy for him.

Rick was AWESOME!!! He was informative, calm and always available. We originally wanted to exchange our vows at the Angel Oak but due to pearl restrictions, we had to find an alternative. Rick came with an excellent suggestion that turned out to be even better than our original plan. I got dressed alone and needed help with my zipper and didn't have anyone to call so I called Rick. He immediately came up to assist me with my dress and took me to my wedding venue. You won't find too many officiants that will do that. My husband and I now consider Rick a friend. I couldn't recommend anyone more professional, gracious and more caring that Reverend Rick. He's the Best!!!

There are wedding officiants…And then there is Rick Burton (Insert mental image of super-cool fireworks)
Rick's attention to detail was nothing short of perfect. Professional, polite, responsive, accommodating, charismatic, enthusiastic. I could keep offering up adjectives for Rick -- I think you get the point.
William and I planned an elopement to the Charleston area. Being from WAY out of town, we found Rick by chance via a simple internet search. From the initial email, we knew Rick was the right man for the job. He had all the answers, organized in perfect checklists. By the second phone call. We knew exactly how the ceremony would go.
We met Rick in person the week of the ceremony. He met us in a quaint little bistro in downtown Charleston. We discussed the details of the ceremony over morning coffee. He even volunteered to pick up our marriage license and my bridal bouquet from the florist! Who does that?
After coffee, Rick took us on a quick tour of downtown and of the lovely Belmond at Charleston Place Hotel (highly recommended you stay there – WOW). We were able get a full 360-degree view of the city from the rooftop pool area.
Wedding day…Perfect. We met Rick at the seaside resort and conducted the ceremony alongside the beautiful Atlantic Ocean.
So, the officiant’s job is done, right? Wrong. This is when Rick kicked it into high gear. Since it was just us, Rick stayed with us through all the post-ceremony wedding photography. Carrying my shoes and helping us in any way possible. Just above and beyond expectations.
The next day, he messaged us just to wish us well and assure us that all legal aspects had been filed and taken care of.
BOTTOM LINE: Rick Burton is top-notch. Do yourself a favor and book him as soon as possible! I wish we could get married again!

From the moment my now husband and I spoke to Rick for the first time on the phone we knew we HAD to have him as our officiant. Not only is Rick experienced, he was a wealth of knowledge in regards to the Charleston area, helped us craft our ceremony and made our ceremony planning experience as seamless as possible. Rick has this calm way about him that makes you feel comfortable and at ease. I couldn't have pictured our wedding day without him, even our families raved about how wonderful he was. We loved working with Rick Burton!!! I am Jewish and husband was raised Christian. Rick listened to our wishes of incorporating some Jewish traditions without making the ceremony feel overly religious. Rick was the professional that we were looking for - he had a sweet/kind sense of humor, but did not make any tasteless jokes. He was extremely understanding and receptive to the changes that I wanted made to the ceremony ... minutes before the rehearsal. We were so lucky to have him. He was the exact officiant that me and my husband were looking for. We were so happy we chose Rick Burton and highly recommend him to any couple!!!

I can say without a doubt that the planning and execution of our wedding could not have gone any smoother. Rick was an excellent officiant! We couldn't have asked for anyone better. He is very experienced and really focused on us to make sure we were ready and helping us through the day. I didn't know exactly what I was doing as far as when to start walking down the aisle, which hand goes over the other hand, and he knows all the ins and outs of a wedding so I wasn't worried at all as I knew he would help me out. He also was able to work with any problems we had during the ceremony, especially when we didn't have the rings. He just took his rings off and Megan and I got married using his rings instead! I am very thankful for everything he did, both before and at the wedding. I am pretty bad about responding to email, but Rick was very patient with me during the wedding phase, as it would take months at times for me to respond. Overall we couldn't have been happier with our choice of officiant and would absolutely ask Rick to officiate our wedding again.

From the first time we spoke to him, he made us feel so supported and taken care of. After close to a year after our wedding, we are finally getting around to writing some reviews! I cannot say enough about how excellent Richard was during the planning phases all the way up through the ceremony, and continued into the reception! This was my wife and my first wedding that either of us had really any participation in - and Richard had advice, suggestions, and experience to offer! Keep in mind, we only asked him to be our officiant - but he offered as much advice as I would expect from a wedding planner!
In short - we are extremely pleased with every aspect of working with Richard, and we actually still maintain contact occasionally! I would suggest Richard to anybody without hesitation!

My husband and I planned a small get-a-way wedding in Charleston last January. Richard was referred to me by our B&B. He was the best choice I could have made. From the time I contacted him, he made my life and planning much easier. He was a wedding planner and officiant in one. He helped me with flowers, music, transportation, and dining choices. He took a lot of stress off of me trying to plan all of this from out of town. I would highly recommend him to anyone getting married in the Charleston area.

My husband and I eloped to Charleston and Rick was absolutely amazing! He prepared everything for us and made it 110% Stress free for us! We didn't worry about a single thing! As if the outstanding Belmond Charleston hotel and the wonderful city of Charleston, SC wasn't enough already, Richard Burton was truly the icing on the cake for the greatest wedding we could possibly imagine.
From the pressing of the wedding dress to the location of the ceremony to flowers to reception dinner to excursions on our honeymoon, he was literally at our fingertips. Not only there for assistance, but anything we wanted or needed.
His personal, caring touch shows how much he truly loves what he does. The term going above and beyond doesn't begin to describe the phenomenal service this man provides.
We both felt in the beginning that we would hire someone to take care of planning & performing the wedding of our dreams. We not only received that & so much more, but also a great friend we are connected to for life.

For our wedding in Mt Pleasant last December, Rick assisted us to put together a complete ceremony and reception in three weeks. I cannot say enough good things about Rick. He help us coordinate every aspect of our wedding I'm choosing the venue to our vows to even arranging for our hotel and dinner reservations. His attention to detail and follow up and follow through are exemplary. We would've been lost without him you; cannot go wrong with having Rick has your officiant! He even adjusts his outfit to your needs (in our case, a purple tie)! Look no further, seriously. He is the absolute best. You will not regret it.

He led me to his resources and helped me find the most amazing photographer as well. Rick quickly replied to all my questions and made sure I knew everything I needed to know (I didn't have a wedding planner so this was a huge help). He even made sure we got a bite to eat after the wedding during pics. If you need an officiant Rick is definitely the best!
