    Amazing price, staff, location and view of downtown!

    I went to check out University club of Grand rapids and the staff was absolutely amazing! I am so excited that I found this venue on wedding wire to have my wedding at;)

    The University Club was an amazing venue for our wedding! The staff there is extremely professional, honest, and accommodating. The event coordinator, Katie, was incredible. We completely trusted her to make our day run smoothly and she did just that and more! She communicated with our DJ on the timeline and made sure we were enjoying our night. Not only is Katie a huge highlight to the venue, but the food is delicious. Everyone said our food was the best food they've had at a wedding! The cake was great too. Another plus to having your wedding at the University Club is that you don't need to go to any outside vendors for things- the University Club has everything you need: food, cake, linens, dance floor, everything. Not to mention, the view from the tenth floor is beautiful. You have a great view of the whole city wherever you are in the club. Also, we loved that the University Club could hold a lot of guests and not feel crowded because people aren't just stuck in one room. Our guests loved that parking was validated and they could easily walk to their hotel after the reception since the UC is in the heart of downtown. We couldn't have asked for a better wedding venue!

    Beautiful venue and very accommodating, responsive management. The reception turned out wonderfully. Parking was included which is key for a downtown location. The food (especially the beef!) was delicious!

    I cannot say enough good things about the University Club. Meg and Katie were wonderful to work with, and were very quick to help me with anything I needed throughout the planning process. On the day of, the food was great, the service was wonderful, and everyone had an amazing time! Great venue!!

    Because we had several out of town guests staying at the Amway, the University Club was a perfect location. Katie, event planner, is great to work with and has the experience to individualize the type of reception you are looking for. The food is all made on site and is fresh and fabulous. The location on the 10th floor provides a birds eye view of downtown GR and parking is included. The overall service and value was exceptional!

    I cannot say enough great things about the University Club! My reception was perfect and I owe it to Katie and the rest of the staff at the University Club. I loved the view and the food was great!! The best part of our reception was watching the fireworks go off while my husband and I were dancing (fireworks were from a baseball game and we could see them clearly from the University Club). The whole night was perfect. Katie took care of all of the major details. Thanks Katie!!!

    The University Club was a perfect venue for us! Great location in the center of everything in Grand Rapids with beautiful views. The majority of our guests were from out of town and really enjoyed the "downtown experience." Michelle was incredibly helpful with all my questions and special requests and didn't try to talk me into anything. Very flexible and accommodating. I loved the layout of the club, having multiple rooms for my guests to enjoy. The food was good, service was excellent. But the value we got for our money was most important to us.

    Our wedding reception was absolutely beautiful. Katie, the event planner was great to work with. Very detail oriented and quick to respond to emails. She took the initiative to set up & decorate the entire event for us when we did not pay for that service. It was such a weight lifted off my shoulders and I am truly grateful. The food was so delicious and the service was timely and professional. My only downfall was how we were charged for extra plates based on guest requests the day of. We were not informed of these requests until we received our bill. We were charged extra for these requests which we did not give permission to serve. We were also charged an "excessive cleaning fee" which we could not measure.

    I cannot say enough great comments about my experience with the University Club. Every little request I made to make my day special was accomodated and the staff is top notch. I was really impressed with their responsiveness during the whole planning process and patience with a high maintanance bride. Additionally, on the day of the food was excellent, room looked great, and they really stayed on top of all of my requests and kept the party going great without letting it get out of control. I had a couple of rowdy guests that they handled with class and professionalism. All in all, I would recommend the University Club as an excellent venue for a wedding.

    The University Club went above and beyond our expectations. Everything was perfect and we coulnt have asked for anything more on our wedding day. An amzing facility and staff with the best view in Grand Rapids! Our day was perfect!

    University Club was an excellent choice for our reception. We loved the location and Katie was amazing to work with! She was able to accommodate nearly every request we had and she worked so hard the night of to mark sure everything went smoothly. It was also very nice that they will allow you to pay to extend the evening. Most places boot you at midnight, but we were allowed to go longer than that.

    My only suggestion would be to offer set prices for the bar, as it is currently by consumption. It's a little easier to plan if there is a set number, rather than getting a bill after. Maybe we'd just prefer it that way, as people drank more than we were expecting! ;) Oh well, it just shows that they were having a great time!

    We loved using the University Club for our reception. They were very helpful setting things up and working with what we wanted to do and our budget. The day of went VERY smoothly and I have heard great things from our guest about the University Club... and you cant beat the view!!

    The University Club is on the top floor of the 5/3 Bank Bldg and has a fanatastic view of dowtown Grand Rapids at night. Michelle was easy to work with and helped make our day a special one. The food was fantastic and we heard many positive comments from our guests. They do have someone who can provide/make wedding cakes but he was not able to make the design that we chose for our cake and so we chose another vendor for this. I would recommend the UClub to other brides and grooms. It is a beautiful facility.

    The UClub provided our reception site, catering, bar, and linens, and they were absolutely wonderful the day of the wedding. The service was great, the food was great, and the facility looked beautiful. Also, Michelle was very flexible and was great to work with in general. The only reason I did not give them all fives is because I felt like the UClub had a lot of hidden costs that I didn't really know about when we booked them. For instance, though the rental price was extremely reasonable, we then had to pay extra for the dance floor, pay extra for the lounge used for the cocktail hour, and had I wanted our head table elevated, we would've had to pay extra for that. Perhaps it's my fault for not reading the info they gave us closely enough, but I guess I was just caught off guard by all the extra costs. Also, while I respect their right to book their entire facility on any given night, the UClub is pretty small, and there was another party going on in their North lounge during our reception. I guess that just bothered me a little bit, but it definitely wasn't a big deal. Overall, I had a great experience with the UClub, and they let our Day-of Coordinator get in early enough to set up the reception, which was very helpful and allowed her to get back to the ceremony site before the ceremony started. I would just be aware of the extra costs if you book the UClub.

    The University Club is located in downtown Grand Rapids and overlooks the Calder and the Grand River. It is a wonderful room that fits up to 250 people with low ceilings to give a cozy feeling. It was nice because it took care of the catering and wedding cake. We were able to have two free meals to choose what we wanted and the food was amazing! The wedding cake was also superb. However, on the day of the wedding, the sizes of the cake pieces being served were hardly adequate. They were slivers of cake, not pieces of cake. And in the end we had mountains of cake to bring home with us. Luckily they realized they were at fault and reimbursed us for the amount of cake that was leftover.

    Because of this being a private club we were able to have an event coordinator at no extra cost. Everything was set up when we got there the day of the wedding and the food was hot and delicious!

    An excellent place to have a party, but ask lots of questions about their extra charges. We didn't realize there was a per plate charge to give our guests the choice of chicken or beef. Also there was a huge discrepancy between what they told us kegs would cost and what they actually ended up charging us.

    The staff however was really wonderful both in planning and the day of the event. We had more than a few compliments on how welcome our guests felt. They were very attentive to our needs as bride and groom as well.

    After much research and careful planning, my husband and I chose to have our reception at the University Club of Grand Rapids. The club is beautiful and the food is great. Unfortunately we experienced significant lapses in communication that resulted in a shocking surprise - the final cost was well over what was originally projected (nearly twice what was initially estimated). We felt very mislead and deceived as our budget had been discussed several times at various meetings leading up to the event. Because of this I cannot in good faith recommend this venue and would strongly encourage you to look elsewhere.
