Great Officiant

Karl made it so easy to plan our ceremony. He was incredibly responsive, taking the time to understand our story and vision for the ceremony. It was perfect. I would recommend Karl!!

Wonderful ceremony thanks to Karl

Perfect ceremony was exactly what we wanted. We were able to customize a short, sweet, non-religious but classic ceremony that was perfect for us. Karl was always responsive and professional. We are very happy with all aspects of his service.

Karl was absolutely amazing! He was very easy going, friendly, and so easy to work with. He responded very quickly through email with any questions we had. He helped make our ceremony exactly what we wanted and it couldn’t have been more perfect. We were so happy he was a part of our special day!

Easy breezy

Karl, was so great to work with! My sister and I were planning a surprise vow renewal so we were doing everything through email. Karl was very responsive and able to adjust some things quickly for us to make it personal. Karl was willing to come to our cabin and even traveled a little bit to do so!

Halloween Mountaintop Wedding

In a word, Karl is awesome. He met with us initially to see what we had in mind for our special day. We chose to have a traditional Celtic handfasting ceremony on Halloween morning with one catch: it was to be on top of House Mountain. He had zero issues with this special request. The day of, we all three walked and talked the whole way up and the whole way down. The ceremony was perfect in every way. This dude even pulled off the most unexpected costume change at the top! While I’m setting up the camera and my bride-to-be and I are changing shirts, Karl goes from hiker attire to a suit & tie. Most impressive! Honestly, I would recommend him in a heartbeat to anyone. He’s very professional, easy to talk to, accommodating, and just an all around cool guy.

Perfect Mountaintop Ceremony

Karl made our wedding day extra special by hiking to a mountain with us to perform the ceremony. He was kind and accommodating from day one, listened to us, and offered suggestions as needed to get the details just right. We could not be happier with the ceremony and the whole experience. I originally hired Karl to do our premarital counseling and ended up also using him to officiate our wedding. We couldn't have chosen anyone better suited for us. My husband is a Wiccan so we had a traditional handtying ceremony combined with a Four Directions ceremony. It was the perfect ceremony. We had few last minute changes with dates and Karl worked with us to accommodate them. I would recommend him to anyone looking for an officiant for the wedding.

Karl Hess did an incredible job. Being from two different faiths (Catholic and Baptist) could have been a problem but Karl worked with us to make sure we had ceremony that worked for us. He worked around our schedule to plan with us. Karl was always on time, organized, and made the ceremony to our exact specifications. He spoke clearly, had a great attitude, and really couldn't have imagined a better officiant! You would be missing out if you didn't give him a chance. Would recommend him 100%. (also, he had some pretty spicy dances moves at our reception)

Mr. Karl Hess was absolutely delightful as our minister. He was prompt, patient and pleasant! We are beyond happy that we had Mr. Karl marry us at Roan Mountain! He was quick to respond both to our initial inquiry and following emails in preparation of the ceremony. He gave such a variety of ceremony transcripts to choose from; it was so fun going through them all figuring out which one we liked best! Thank you SO much for your services and sweet personality; we are forever grateful!

Last minute due to an emergency our minister couldn't make it. Looked everywhere and everyone was either booked, to far, or couldn't make it that day. By God's grace I found Carl! You provided me pricing, information, and assisted me. My wife has a purity ring and also wanted to do communion. I advise Carl and provided the information. Even though it was his first time he did it so well it seemed like it was something done before. Definitely recommend

We have nothing but the best to say about Karl. Professional and personable and he seems to enjoy every second of the ceremony which is so important for your big day. I would highly recommend him to anyone. We had our ceremony down a steep muddy trail in the mountains and he didn’t bat an eye so I’d imagine he could marry anyone anywhere. My husband and I are very happy that we picked Karl to be our officiant! He was professional, extremely kind, and super easy to talk to. We weren't sure what to expect when we had to pick out our ceremony, because we haven't been to many weddings before. Couldn't have asked for a better officiant! The week before our wedding, we were moving across the county and had a LOT on our plate... Karl was very understanding and was able to help us pick the ceremony and was super flexible! We didn't even get a chance to meet him before the rehearsal, but Karl was so accommodating and had such an open line of communication that we felt like we already knew him. Super friendly, super professional, and I would 100% recommend Karl to anyone!

My wife and I couldn't have been happier with our wedding ceremony, and we are so happy that we found Karl to marry us. Karl was willing to accompany us on 6 mile hike to a waterfall in the Great Smoky Mountains national park. He also provided us with a number of different ceremony templates ahead of time to look at, and let us cut and paste the parts we liked for our ceremony. He is easy going, kind, good humoured, flexible, professional, and an all around delightful person to be around. We felt very blessed to have him be a part of this important event. We would highly recommend Karl to anyone seeking an officiant.

Mr. Hess was amazing. We contacted him with only a few months prior to out marriage. He worked with us to assure we had the proper vows. He was more than adaptable to any situation. Plans were to have a wedding in a helicopter over the smoky mountains, but Mother Nature decided that was a no go, so when we contacted him just hours before, he was adaptable to come perform a ceremony in our cabin. He was understanding that we wanted family to FaceTime with us and even laughed with us rough the technical difficulties. He provided us with exactly what we wanted. Mr. Hess is a definite asset and we would highly recommend without any reservations.

Based off the reviews I read prior to hiring Karl, I was expecting someone who was truly outgoing, and easy to talk to. Instead, I felt like conversations face to face were awkward, and needed to be prompted (starting to wish we would have walked away at that). Despite our better judgement, we proceeded to hire him. He was said to "help create the perfect, custom ceremony", yet, all he did was send me multiple vague templates, while I spent countless hours on my own writing it verbatim. Absolutely no real input of his own. We wanted to incorporate hand fasting into our ceremony. Karl claimed in his description to have experience, but was some how unfamiliar with a custom knot that was used during. SO, he ask to arrive a little bit earlier than usual to the ceremony to "practice" tying the knot. He then proceeded to charge us (RIGHT BEFORE THE CEREMONY) an additional $50 (On top of what we just paid him!) for his "extra time" (which was due to his own ignorance) before he could proceed. It seriously almost ruined the ceremony for us! The ceremony was not as light hearted and fun as I was expecting- it was near melancholy, and almost sarcastically toned at times. I could go on and on. But hey. I guess he got it done. Thankfully I won't need this type of service again, but if I knew what I did now, I would have done a little more research.

Karl was very nice when me and my wife met with him we created a great ceremony together it was beautiful. We hired him September of 2017 for our wedding of this July. Less than six weeks till the day of he calls and emails me and says he can’t do the wedding ceremony because he had something else planned. So I don’t mind he had a prior engagement it was that he didn’t tell us in any of the seven months we had him confirmed as our officiant he waited till the last six weeks where our lives were the most crazy. He recommended another officiant within his company Alexis who did an amazing job we had a beautiful wedding, but I am very displeased that there was no for thought that hey maybe I should check my calendar a lot sooner than six weeks till someone’s big day! Only reason any stars are give is because the ceremony written was beautiful and Alexis did an amazing job filling in and was so kind.
