I cannot say enough good things about Tobin. He made our wedding! We instantaneously connected on our initial phone call and he was easy to work with throughout our entire process. Tobin is authentic, honest and funny. He has an innate ability to make everyone feel so comfortable and let down their guards. His sense of humor is off the hook and as the first person we interacted with on our wedding day, he helped set the stage for an amazing wedding by putting everyone in a great mood (including the tough cookies) and capturing some phenomenal moments on film. I'll never forget Tobin running down the hill with his bad back to take that shot of us walking down the hill with all of our guests trailing behind. Tobin gave us and our guests 100% of himself. We could not have been more pleased to work with anyone on our wedding day and the photos and albums very much reflect the essence of our magical day. We were even surprised when Tobin sent us a photo montage set to music that we would have picked ourselves. The montage was even more impressive than our wedding video. Our friend Vicki puts it best...

"Where did you find this photographer???? Honestly, this is probably the best I have ever seen! WOW! I am not kidding that I was just crying at my desk watching that montage. You and Stef look amazing in every single pic! He really captured that wedding and I don't even know how he made that montage...it was unbelievable what he did. I have never seen that before!"

Now we just have to find another reason to work with Tobin again!

My husband and I were very skeptical of choosing Tobin as a photographer simply because of the price. As soon as the day got going we realized why it was so pricy and absolutely loved him! He was so professional and he got our photos to us sooner than promised! He was fabulous! All of our photos turned out gorgeous even though he was worried they might not because of the time of day we had our ceremony. Everything turned out perfect. When we were viewing our photos with the family we got so many wonderful comments like "these look like they belong in a wedding magazine" We were absolutely pleased with everything!

When I first saw Tobin's profile on The Knot, one sentence in one of his reviews caught my eye and stayed with me; "You'll want to invite him to Thanksgiving dinner!" And let me just say, there is a reason his reviews are all so positive. Working with Tobin is a dream come true! From the second he walked in the door to the gaggle of bridesmaids and glam squad bustling around, he blended seamlessly. He made us laugh (terrific Spanish accent and Jim Gaffigan impression!), he posed us and used examples that made all of us feel at ease AND glamorous, and felt like one of the girls. I completely trusted him and felt like he "got" us, and our relationships with our family and wedding party, so the pictures felt natural and warm. And the pictures! They are unbelievable. I've had lots of requests for Tobin's info for future weddings, and so many compliments like "these look like magazine shots!" and "he perfectly captured the mood of your day". You will not be sorry!!! Oh, and years later our wedding photos are still the best of any of our friends'. Just sayin'!

Perfect Photos for the Perfect Day

My husband and I got married in August and we were blessed to have Tobin as our photographer! When we first began looking for photographers we were completely in the dark. We researched on all the different wedding websites and we were so overwhelmed by the number of talented artists. We found Tobin through our wedding venue - he had done a wedding there a few years ago and they showed us the beautiful album he made for them. We reached out to him and one other photographer to compare prices and do a video call (we live in Virginia and got married in California). The other photographer was talented, kind and affordable, but once we met Tobin, we had no doubts that he was the one for us. He is warm, fun, and completely devoted to his craft. My husband and I are complete dorks and it was magical to meet someone who saw our love and could share in our humor. We did an engagement shoot a few months later and it confirmed our beliefs that Tobin was the perfect person to capture our love. The engagement photos turned out magnificently, and we had so much fun going to new places to find some special shots.
On the day of our wedding, Tobin was attentive and helpful, and was so flexible with everything we wanted to do. He showed us how devoted he was to capturing the perfect shot - he stood on tables and chairs, got down in the dirt, and wasn't afraid to get into some pretty precarious positions. I loved his energy and enthusiasm, and our entire wedding party was able to relax knowing that he wasn't going to push us around or take up all our time with stiff, posed photos. He made us feel like the most beautiful and brilliant couple, and we were just so happy to share this perfect day with him.
After the wedding, we patiently waited about 8 weeks to see our photos for the first time, and it was 100% worth the wait. All of his creative risks and his vision paid off - when we first saw our photos we were blown away. I knew we looked good, but he helped us to look like models! Seeing the pictures was like experiencing our wedding all over again, and we are so lucky to have found someone like Tobin to capture our spirit, our hard work, and our favorite moments.

As a wedding planner I have always enjoyed my interactions with the photographers, until they start pushing back meal time and I have to worry about the food drying out! Tobin was an exquisite photographer. Not only in personality and style but most importantly the finished works he presents. I was exceptionally impressed with how Tobin captured the most important moments as well as some of the smaller moments in a unique and beautiful way.

Not only did the photographs turn out beautifully, he was a joy to work with. Professional, kind, flexible, and inventive. I just want to say that I loved everything about working with you. Not only are you a great friend but you took such care and detail when working with me and Aaron and our guests on our special day. I could not imagine the day without your presence. From the moment we confirmed that you would be shooting our wedding I completely relaxed and got super excited at the same time because I knew that we would have THE BOMB DIGGETY Photos and you, of course, did not let me down. The first official photo of us is so stunning. My mouth fell open the first time I saw it. I mean come on, really??!! It really does look like a perfume ad. So many people have asked me about you and have said how magical our wedding seemed and of course, that feeling jumped right out of our photographs. What I liked about our decision to hire Tobin was that he lived up to his great personality, was even more fun to be coached by, would listen to and translate our visions extremely well and of course pulled off the shots! His style of wedding journalism is also very complete--we loved all the detail shots of the tiniest of things. It makes for a very memorable record.

I couldn’t be happier with the superb pictures Tobin took of our wedding. Clare and I run a homely lodge in Uganda and the wedding album is in pride of place in the living-room. Guests from all over the world are unanimous in their admiration of how Tobin managed to perfectly capture the essence of the day. We could easily have filled three albums with money-shots but you have to draw the line somewhere!
It’s a real gift to a couple to be able to relive the best day ever so vividly. Thank you so much Tobin.

Everything I could have asked for, and more!

There was one thing I knew I DIDNT want for my wedding - bad photos to remember it by. Looking for the perfect photographer was exhausting and stressful... I didn’t want to get stuck with someone who produced cheesy, posed pictures. We almost settled, until we found Tobin. His work speaks for itself, his photos are beautiful and full of emotion. My now-husband and I are so aweful in front of the camera and very awkward. Tobin does an amazing job at not only capturing moments, but creating moments to capture. That is a true talent. He really helped us create natural, emotion-filled scenes that turned into gorgeous pictures that we now have forever. To be honest, we really splurged on Tobin as we had a tight budget. But let me tell you, weddings go by so fast and I am SO grateful to have beautiful photos to remember it all... they are truly priceless. Worth. Every. Penny. Thank you so much Tobin!

Our wedding was a bit of a muddy affair and Tobin wasn’t afraid to get down and dirty to get the perfect shots. His enjoyment, spontaneity, and ability to capture laughs, love, and wonder was felt by John and I and the entire wedding party. He felt like a friend and made everyone around him feel at ease. He just fit right in at our wedding. Looking at our pictures brings us back to the warmth of our wedding, one of the happiest days of our lives. We love Tobin!

When planning our wedding with a limited budget, we had to make decisions about what was important to us. The one thing we decided on from the beginning was to spend money on a good photographer, even if it meant compromising on other things. During the year before the wedding, there were so many decisions to make and booking a photographer was just one of the things that needed to be planned. Now that it is over, the pictures are all we have left. We chose Tobin because both of us, having been avid amateur photographers for a good part of our lives, loved his photojournalistic style and found him very easy to connect with. We had two video conferences prior to the wedding and by the time our wedding day arrived, he felt like an old friend or cousin that happened to be professional photographer. Everyone told us how fast the day would go, but it still didn't prepare us for the blur that was our wedding day. A few days after we returned from our honeymoon and having to get back to “normal life”, I opened Tobin's slideshow which was a preview of some of his favorite shots set to music we chose. I was so moved that he had caught the day – not just the snap shots that everyone takes with their cameras and cell phones, but really caught it. If we didn't have Tobin's pictures, our wedding day would have disappeared in the same place where all past days go. During the months of planning a wedding, it's hard to imagine that that could happen. But as the years go on, memories fade, and loved ones pass, I am eternally grateful that Tobin came into our lives to keep our wedding day alive for all time. Thank you, my friend!

Working with Tobin was a sublime experience. He was so easy to interact with, so professional, and his presence on the wedding day was subtle. I couldn’t have asked for a better approach on the day of the wedding. But the REAL gems of his work became apparent when we saw the photos for the first time. They were beyond gorgeous. How did he have such an eye for the backgrounds? How did he get such beautiful candids?! I didn’t even see him taking most of those pictures and yet there they were - our friends and family members captured in beautiful, sweet moments throughout the day. One of the things I didn’t realize would matter so much to me was to see all the groupings and goings-on of my friends and family throughout the day captured in the pictures that I hadn’t witnessed on the wedding day itself (because I could only be in one place at once!). I cannot recommend Tobin highly enough - both for his professional/sublime presence on the wedding day, and for his STELLAR photos that we will treasure for the rest of our lives!

Tobin is such an amazing photographer and person. What I loved most about Tobin was his sense of humor. Being in front of a camera and the center of attention can be very nerve racking but Tobin made the experience so fun and light hearted! I'm also not a big fan of PDA but Tobin managed to get me to be more in the moment and touchy feel with my husband around other people which produced beautiful photos.

He is very professional, showed up right on time, scoped out the property and was able to really capture the day. He also drove us to our other photo location which was nice. My hubby and I were able to just sit back, relax, and enjoy our special day!

Seeing my photos for the first time was emotional! I've never seen myself look so beautiful and being able to have someone capture my husband and my love for one another was just amazing! In some of the photos he caught Jason (hubby) just staring at me and it just makes my heart melt.

When an opportunity arises to get photos taken, Tobin will be the first one I think about! I brag about him to everyone who sees our pictures, I just can't help myself!

I was nervous about working with any wedding photographer — our wedding is only once in a lifetime, and finding someone good seemed impossible: we wanted someone who would listen to what we wanted, be quick with the “must-have” photos, catch every key moment, add creative flair, and stay out of the way — and produce incredible photos! Finding Tobin was the answer to our photographic prayers. We loved his presence, his speed, his professionalism, and how he captured moments that we never thought could look that good. When we first saw the photos from our nature shoot, it was an OMG! moment — you would have thought the whole thing was set up by Vogue with the romance turned up past 11. My bride cried over them.

Dear Tobin,

I wanted to thank you so much for capturing our wedding. I loved that you made the extra effort to really get to know us and discover our vision and passions before the wedding so that you could create photographs that we would end up loving and cherishing forever. You made it about US and our vision.

You were fun, but very professional, making us laugh (including our Grandmas)! All of our guests commented about you and how fun you were after the wedding. My wife and I chose Tobin to take care of our Boston wedding photography needs and we are extremely happy with our choice! Everything was exceptional, from the first interview and meeting to the delivery of the final albums. Tobin really loves photography and he also has a savviness in composing photos and being in the right place at the right time to capture those candid moments. On the wedding day, Tobin felt like a member of the family which undoubtedly helped our guests warm up to being photographed and resulted in more natural looking photos.

How did Tobin consistently photograph my relatives with such natural smiles? It is really incredible how everyone is smiling in photo after photo in our wedding album. There were also a few points during the reception that we felt like rock-stars with Tobin and the assistant photographer taking flash photos as we entered the reception. Many friends commented on how awesome our photographer was during the wedding and again when we received our proofs online to share with everyone.

During one of our Skype video chats (we were arranging our Boston wedding from out of town), we had requested that Tobin take the traditional formal shots and also requested a photo-journalistic style to capture our guests enjoying our special day. Not only did we receive exactly what we requested, but Tobin took additional photos that he knew that our parents and grandparents would love. It is one of those added bonuses that we didn't appreciate until after the wedding day had past.

Tobin calls his wedding photography service the "Tobin Experience." I think that perfectly describes how takes care of you from initial interviews, arranging formal shots, during the special day and even in being able to provide feedback on the albums. Tobin also provided clear delivery deadlines and stuck to them every time. Tobin helped guide us to the correct decisions before we even realized it - the sign of a true professional!

I remember our first phone call with Tobin as we began the hunt for our photographer. My (now) hubby and I were in Maine on vacation, and were getting ready for our call with Tobin. Never having planned a wedding before, we had no idea what to ask. So, I had my wedding binder and the questions from "The Knot" to ask away. When Tobin called, he instantly had us laughing, smiling, and it felt like he had known us forever. Mid-call, Tobin said, "That look on your faces right now is what I will capture that day." I was sold. It was only the beginning of our relationship, but already we knew Tobin was the type of photographer who just gets wedding photography - who answers the questions before you ask them and who knows how to bring out a couples' love for each other to capture incredible moments.

I told Tobin that I wanted a photographer who would not pose me - I wanted to not even know that a photographer was there and for the real intimate, fun, and candid moments throughout the day to tell the story. I cannot express my uttermost satisfaction with how true this is after seeing our photos. Your wedding day goes by so fast, and there is no way to clearly remember each moment, or see everything. Tobin even captured some amazing candid photographs of love between our parents and grandparents - ones that we are seriously in love and will treasure forever.

When Tobin sent us our pictures, I felt like I relived our wedding, and each time I look at them, I fall more in love. Tobin is relaxed, fun to be around, and makes you feel comfortable to be yourself and have fun, all while feeling you are not being followed by a camera. Tobin captures your true personalities, the essence of each moment, and truly tells a story with his photographs.

"Tobin happens to be precisely the breathtakingly talented photographer whom you would dream of to capture the joy and detail of your wedding. Which is to say that not only does he work utter magic with light and angles, but he is also quietly calm (and calming), deeply professional, brilliantly organized (with lots of fail-safe plans and backup kit you would never have dreamed of), very experienced, and perhaps most importantly, exceptionally gifted in the delicate art of bringing forth light and ease from within even the most camera-shy guest (or groom :)).

Moreover, he will gleefully do whatever it takes to get the shot without imposing his presence on the scene. Scaling walls? fjording streams? Lying on the ground? No worries. Tobin quietly and completely went above and beyond the call of duty to provide us with spectacularly magical wedding photography. (Oh, yes. He also flew to England early, and made his way to our little village in North Yorkshire in good time to photograph our intimate pre-wedding dinners and outings. Nice.)

The results are truly breathtaking, more than any bride could dream of: natural, at ease, blissful, brimming with happiness, having a ball and, yes, absolutely gorgeous are the bride, groom, and guests in our photos. Tobin is a moment capturing genius. He combined talents and attributes of top-notch photography skills, ability to know where to be to capture the best candid shots I have ever seen, ability to be an invisible yet positive part of your ceremony, commitment to A+++ quality and service - have me recommend him 1000% to any couple looking to capture their special day. Tobin is an absolutely incredible photographer! I must have gone through the galleries of a hundred photographers before I chose Tobin Photography. His style and eye for beautiful shots drew me in and his promptness with corresponding with me, as opposed to others, had me sold. He has a way of putting you at ease with his great sense of humor while always maintaining professionalism. He is truly talented in how he incorporates creativity with the technical skills versus the “spray and pray” methods of some photographers. We were blown away by our photos, which were available within weeks. The images looked straight out of a magazine! Some of my friends commented that they wished their photographer had been as good as ours. We had an amazing experience working with Tobin and you will not be disappointed.

Tobin caught my attention during wedding planning when I stumbled upon his wedding website on social media. I loved his natural and effortless style of photography. My husband, at the time fiancé, and I decided we had to fly in this photographer from California to Florida for our wedding. Our pre-wedding discussions were helpful in communicating our desires but also, Tobin shared a wealth of information with us to ensure that our pictures on the day would be well executed. On the day he was on-time at 8am and was full of positive energy. Somehow he was able to keep that energy up throughout the day and all the way till midnight, which is when our wedding ended. One of my most memorable moments happened on the dance floor when the crowd needed a bit of motivation to dance, Tobin started dancing and got everyone to dance around him, at this point he danced and took photographs! The photos from our wedding day were beautiful and I was grateful that all these special moments were frozen in time. When I see our wedding pictures, now 8 years after our wedding day, it transports me back to that moment everytime.

Tobin was an absolute blast to work with during our wedding a few weeks ago and for our engagement photos. Aside from being an extremely talented photographer, he is just wonderful to work with. He truly draws out people’s personalities and is such a fun and hilarious person - all the smiles in the photos are real ones! He was all over the place getting photos with the best lighting and snapping photos of everyone. At one point he was trekking through a thorn bush, nearly falling into a lake just to make sure he got the perfect shot of my husband and I. He had a good plan to make sure we got all the photos we wanted with family and friends and that we didn’t waste time getting photos we didn’t care about. I haven’t seen the photos from the wedding yet, but based on the other weddings he’s done and the engagement photos he took for us, I’m confident that they will be fabulous! Every time I look at my wedding and engagement pictures, I smile not only because of the images I see but because of the fun I remember having during our shoot. Tobin's sense of humor keep us laughing and invited us to relax around something that could have been very stressful for me. Tobin wasn't just a photographer he was a dynamic coach who helped us to feel 100% natural. Working with Tobin and his staff was an incredible experience. My husband and I are not the photogenic type and were very nervous the photos would be awkward and unnatural. We are currently living in Chicago and so were planning the wedding long distance. Tobin was incredibly accommodating by allowing us to talk over Skype and assured our nerves by discussing with us his strategies to erase the nerves and awkwardness in photos. We also found we had many common interests and were immediately comfortable with him just from that one skype conversation. On the day of, he was there well before we arrived prepared and ready to go. The candid shots he got of us when we arrived are fabulous! There's one in particular of my mother in law with a huge smile on her face that we love.

Our one on one session with Tobin was really wonderful. My husband and I are the type that never know what to do for posed photos and end up always looking awkward and cheesy. He provided verbal and visual direction that put us at ease and allowed us to be natural. The results are incredible!!! I have never felt and looked more beautiful and my husband who hates looking at photos of himself said "Wow, these pictures actually look like how I see myself in a mirror. I am a good looking guy!" In going through the pictures the other night picking our prints, we had a very hard time deciding what to order because there are so many gorgeous photos that show the love and joy that we both felt throughout the day.

The rest of the photos also came out absolutely beautiful! They really show the true emotion of the day. It is heartwarming to look back at them and see the tears and pride in my Father in law's face while giving his speech and the pure joy of both our parents as they entered the tent. The photos really capture the essence of the wedding! It was such and incredible day and all the photos show that beautifully! I've been sharing them with everyone I meet!

Tobin was an amazing pick for a photographer. We met him at a friends wedding, and to be honest we really just liked him as a person. We had never seen any of his work, but based on the conversations, the humor, ability to connect, and sense of joy we felt we had no problem choosing him(of course we did look at some photos before the final decision, and were very impressed!)

We are beyond thrilled with our decision. Having Tobin as a part of our wedding and wedding process was a breeze and a joy. He was extremely professional, on point, and very willing to help alleviate any anxieties through my many questions. He was also just fun to talk with!

On our wedding day, he was great. He really connected with all of the wedding party, he made us all laugh a ton, and most importantly he took wonderful wonderful photos!!! He really inspired us all in how to be during the shoots, which was helpful. He guided us flawlessly, and the results were beautiful. From the moment I contacted Tobin I trusted him to deliver 100%. His responses were timely and conclusive. I never questioned if he understood what was needed of him. Conveying the timeline and details of the wedding to him became joyful as Tobin’s own understanding of how each event is unique and magical was apparent. He only added to the power of the plan - and his insights and suggestions were always 100% spot on.

As a wedding planner I value presence and professionalism as well as connection to Spirit - the overarching energy that guides the entire event and defines why we are here in support of our client - The Couple getting married. Tobin is all of this and more. He is a beautiful combination of professionalism and wit, confidence and trust, openness and compassion. I fell in love with him instantly!

When we were thinking of WHO we'd be getting to photograph the most important day of our lives (we'd been together for 11 years on the day of our wedding 10.01.16) there was no thinking. (We'd only been talking about it for years. Years!!!) We first saw Tobin's work in 2008 and were totally blown away. The attention to detail (we appreciate people who are so passionate about their work that they border on geeky) was apparent and appreciated. However, the way he connects with the his subject matter is unparalleled. He brings out the best in people, that's just how he is. Needless to say, we highly recommend this wonderful man.

Tobin Poppenberg is THE best wedding photographer (and people photographer) we have ever known. Hands down. He's a delightful human who adores people!!! When you see his photos, you see a true heart-connection that comes from deep down. The magic he captures with his eye is truly astonishing. He understands how to make the most of the scenery, the people, the moment. When we saw our photos, we cried tears of joy. We knew they would be special but had no idea what he would actually capture. His photography made our wedding day experience exceptional. There were no surprises, nothing left undone. He communicated clearly and thoroughly so that we could relax and enjoy our day as much as we possibly could.

Finally, I need to say that his personal style is just fantastic. Many people commented on how much the photographer looked like the epitome of "the photographer"!! He truly was in every way. Choosing Tobin to photograph our wedding was one of the best decisions we made! The wedding photographer is probably one of the most, if not THE most, important vendor you'll hire for your wedding. After the food, flowers, and cake are forgotten; the photographs live on for eternity. Hiring Tobin for this most crucial task was an easy and wise decision. From quoting to completing all final product orders (we are still doing so 5 months later!), Tobin is a pleasure to work with. Tobin is thorough, responsive, caring, fun, and can equally give or take direction. What I loved most was his keen eye for the perfect shot. When we did our first conference call with Tobin to discuss what was important to us, we provided this direction, "we don't want a ton of posed, stiff shots; we want "in the moment" candids, the love and emotion of the day captured". Tobin was our first choice to photography our wedding. I was very familiar with his exquisite work (shooting weddings, festivals and events) and we were thrilled he was available.

What I loved about working with Tobin is how seriously he takes preparation. We met with him a couple times he gently encouraged us to stay on schedule by making our shot list well before the event. After delivering our 4 page document, I was very impressed that he and his assistant had it memorized and also carried a copy in their back pocket.
Tobin and his assistant made us (and our family and wedding party) feel so comfortable and at ease during our pre-ceremony shoot.

The photos he delivered are incredible!~ We could not be happier with these priceless family photographs documenting the most incredible weekend of our lives.

The day we met Tobin was our wedding day – we were planning a Massachusetts wedding from Washington DC and Tobin was always accommodating and optimistic that there would be no kinks. We were worried it was professional bravado, but that was not the case.

Tobin also has a big of mad scientist in him. My husband and I were up-front that if he had an idea for a cool picture idea, he should go for it, we both knew that no amount of staring at pintrest would be as good as having a professional photographer have free reign to do what he thought would look good. So Tobin kept on surprising us. He pulled us out during dinner (only after making sure we were cool with it) and snapped a picture of us in the snow, by a lake, at sunset. It involved a crazy hike through the woods, freezing cold, and a dark walk back – however the picture is STUNNING and the whole process took maybe an extra 15 minutes away from our wedding which we thought was reasonable for something spur-of-the-moment.

It took about 7 agonizing weeks to receive our wedding pictures – which were well worth the wait. We ordered an album and some prints to hang on the wall. The prints arrived rapidly, but the album and CD book with our images took a few extra weeks to make it to us (If I remember correctly it was about 4-5 months but don’t let that scare you). Honestly I didn’t mind since I understood Tobin’s in high demand and every time I emailed him to make sure we weren't forgotten he was quick to respond and reassure that – yes, everything was fine. Despite that one small hiccough, I feel like it was well worth it. I love my wedding pictures.
I felt like Tobin captured the tone of my wedding perfectly. My husband and I are very silly people, we had a puppet themed wedding that could have looked like a children’s birthday party in the pictures, but Tobin ‘got’ us. The pictures were whimsical and fun but most of all beautiful.
