    Delicious!

We got a two tier cake and mini cupcakes for our wedding. We loved the amount of flavors to choose from and we were able to come up with our own flavors as well. These were by far the best cupcakes we tried out of a few places we did tastings for our wedding!

    Delicious and beautiful

    - We used Thirsty Whale for our wedding. We had a small two tier cake and a bunch of desserts for our dessert table. They did a beautiful job setting up our dessert table. Everything tasted so delicious! All of our guests raved about how delicious each item was and we had cheesecake shooters, cookies, mini cupcakes, pb cups, and macarons. Each dessert was so delicious. They were also super accommodating and made each dessert gluten free! We loved our desserts and the set up. I would highly suggest using them for future events! We also got some donuts for our brunch the next day after our wedding. These were not gluten free but people really liked them!

    Amazing bakery!

We knew we didn’t want to go the traditional cake route for our wedding dessert, but we didn’t know exactly what we wanted to do, or what would fit within our budget. Thirsty Whale went above and beyond to make sure we tried a little bit of everything, and they were more than willing to lay out every option for us in terms of pricing, product, variety, quantity, etc. We ended up choosing a donut wall (SO cute!), donut hole skewers, cupcakes, cookies, cake pops, bars, and a small cake for us to cut. Everything was so yummy! They even incorporated one of our favorite local beers into their chocolate stout mousse for the cupcakes! The only regret we have is that our guests loved everything so much, we never actually got to eat our own wedding desserts, because they beat us to it! Hire Thirsty Whale- you won’t regret it!

    The Thirsty Whale's reply:

    Hi Leanne!
We are so glad you enjoyed your experience - we loved being a part of your wedding! We hope we get the chance to work with you again in the future :)

    Delicious Cakes and Friendly Team

Although my mother managed all the cake booking, she absolutely loved working with Megan from the Thirsty Whale. The cupcakes were delicious, the wedding cake was beautiful, and she even made a kransenkake.

We were so excited to have Thirsty Whale as our bakery for our big day. The owner Sarah was very responsive over email. We met with Megan to discuss our cake design. She was enthusiastic, sketched out a design for us, and brought TONS of samples. We had picked some flavors to try beforehand and she came to our tasting with samples of cupcakes, fillings, and frostings, so we could try different combinations to find what we liked. Our cake was beautiful and we heard great things about the cake (especially the lemon cake with raspberry mousse). There were only a handful left at the end of the night! Follow them on social media to see the amazing designs they can do!

We got our wedding cake from the Thirsty Whale. Not only were they the best deal we found, but their cakes were delicious and their staff was so friendly and easy to work with. I sent the first email to them pretty late at night, thinking I'd hear from them the next day and got a response within an hour! Our tasting was so much fun. The hardest part was choosing which flavors we wanted. (We went with Honeywine Moscato cake with Strawberry filling and Chocolate Cherry Chip cake with Amaretto filling... They were both amazing!)
The cake was delicious and we're still getting comments from our guests about it! They made us a beautiful cake for cutting that went great with our Doctor Who theme (I'll post a picture when I get one) and sheet cakes for the rest. We had a bridesmaid with a dairy allergy and a guest with a gluten allergy. When I mentioned it, they said, "No problem, we'll do gluten free vegan cupcakes. Which flavor would you like those?". I couldn't believe that those weren't just whatever they could make that way. I was so glad that my friends with allergies were able to eat the same flavor cakes as everyone else!
When we returned the cake stand, we bought some doughnuts and they were some of the best I've had! I really can't recommend this bakery enough.

    Great Food and Great Service

When planning our wedding we reached out to The Thirsty Whale, they were able to create an entire desert bar from my husband’s dreams. Months before the event we received a sample box and from there chose our cupcake and filling flavors (which was a special treat in itself) The day of the wedding, they came set up the table with cupcakes, cookies, and cake pops! It was everything we dreamed it would be. Since our wedding day we have used them for birthdays, baby showers and the occasional donut breakfast! I would highly recommend checking them out!

    Hi there!
We are so glad you and your guests enjoyed everything!
    Best Wishes,

The Thirsty Whale Bakery was amazing!! Megan accommodated my food allergies without sacrificing flavor and quality of our desserts!! She brought tons of flavors to try for our dessert bar, and she sketched our small cake for the cutting with my MIL and I at our tasting. They set up our dessert bar, and it got devoured! Everyone loved it, and the individual cookies we had for favors. So awesome, we recommended them to my husband's brother who's getting married next year, and they're going to schedule a tasting. This may be a newer business, but they really know how to serve customers! Couldn't be more pleased with the experience and products. We will be ordering from them for more occasions to come!

I could not be happier that I found The Thirsty Whale! My husband and I met with Megan who brought all kinds of cupcake flavors, filling, mousse, and frosting, so we could custom make our cupcakes. We also ordered an 8 inch cake for us to cut and Megan drew it up right then and there. Our guests at our wedding LOVED the cupcakes! And we LOVED our little cake. I would recommend The Thirsty Whale to anyone! I can't wait for our 1 year anniversary so we can get another fresh cake :)

    Delicious and beautiful cake

The Thirsty Whale has some amazing talented artists. We went to them with an idea and the sketches came out beautiful but the cake was more than I could ever imagine. We had a Elegant Marvel super hero theme were we tied our love for super heroes with a traditional wedding. I am so happy we chose the Thirsty Whale to make this for us. Not only was it absolutely delicious but it was a work or art!

    Cupcake were a hit!

Thirsty Whale's cupcakes were out of this world. Great taste and so many flavours to choose from! They were also very accommodating for various guest allergies (dairy-free, gluten-free, etc.). They even helped us with cupcake stands and our cake topper. Would definitely recommend!

    Was not impressed.

This was the first wedding cake venue I went to. I was less than impressed. It started with the phone call, which the lady was unable to accommodate my mother and I at all for a tasting. So we decided to do the take out box of samples. We were able to choose off a list online and pay $10. Upon arrival, we were told to take the cupcakes baked, dip them into the frosting and the little flavorings which were placed in to go cups. This gave us no idea of any kind of ratio of cake to filling ratio. The cupcakes were not very flavorful, rather tasting more like extracts then a moist cake. The flavorings were "OK". They did not leave a great taste in my mouth. No call back to check on us to see what we thought.. Seemed like our business did not matter to them. We decided to go with another vendor.

    The Thirsty Whale's reply:

    Hi Simone,
Sorry to hear you were disappointed with your experience. The tasting box option was for two reasons, as it states on our website:
    1) we reserve consultation appointments for events serving over 100, and 2) you contacted us with less than a few days notice for when you needed your tasting - - at this time, during wedding planning season, our consultation appointments are booked out about a month....even if you really needed a consultation for your event, we simply didn't have space with that short of notice! We did our best with what time we did have to get you your choice of flavors within a 3 day turn around.
We pride ourselves on our cake taste and texture, so I'm a little taken aback that your impression of the cake itself was not a positive one. The tasting boxes and consultations are always a mix-and-match style pairing so our customers can get a truly customized flavor experience. Once flavor combinations are chosen, we often provide a finished cupcake to make sure those choices are exactly right - for flavors and filling, to cake, to icing ratios.
To address your feeling of not mattering to us - I apologize if you got that impression. I believe you picked up your order the day after you scheduled it...on a Sunday. We are closed Monday, and with the inclement weather this week in Minnesota - today was my first day back in the shop - I wouldn't have had a chance to get back to you before now anyway.
Either way - I'm glad you were able to find a vendor you were pleased with - we wish you the best!

Choosing Thirsty Whale Bakery for our cake was by far our biggest wedding regret

My husband and I wanted our cake to be the highlight of our wedding and we spent a significant amount of money to make sure our cake would meet the expectations we had set. Our cake was supposed to arrive to our venue at 1pm. By 4 pm there was still no cake, no call from the bakery, and our guests were starting to file in. The cake arrived moments before the ceremony and cake was a complete disaster. Apparently, the cake was in an accident and the entire bottom tier was destroyed and the cake was leaning to one side. We were explicit about wanting real flowers on the cake and had a supply waiting on the cake table. However, these were discarded by Thirsty Whale when they arrived and instead there were sugar flowers on the cake. These large sugar flowers proceeded to fall off during the ceremony and left holes in the fondant. We had to call in a florist with extra flowers during our cocktail hour to patch up the holes in our cake! We had asked for a soft, natural gradient of gold throughout the cake and had discussed in length at our consultation the best way to achieve this look. We decided on hand-painted flecks and veining to compliment the fondant marbling we chose. I even emailed pictures after the consultation of exactly what we were asking. Instead the cake was decorated with bold gold stripes and had guests asking if our cake was “safari themed”. The actual cake itself was missing the chocolate fudge filling we had chose. We were so embarrassed and disappointed. Regardless all of the issues with our cake, our biggest problem with Thirsty Whale was the way we were treated. We get it, accidents happen, but at least be honest and upfront about it. No one from the bakery even attempted to contact me or any member of the bridal party to let them know about the cake accident. I found out about it from a guest who had seen the fallen flowers during our reviving line and spent our cocktail hour dealing with it. After the wedding, we contacted Thirsty Whale. They offered us a refund on the destroyed bottom tier and delivery fee. They did not apologize for the sugar flowers, the leaning cake, the missing filling, or gold striping. They told us they didn’t see my emails on decoration and stopped replying when we asked for a refund on the decoration fee. My husband and I went in to the bakery to talk to the owner in person. Megan was defensive, insincere, and curt with us. She blamed the event coordinator for not knowing if there should have been real flowers in our cake and claimed to have seen my emails on decoration but chose to take “artistic freedom” instead of going with what we agreed on in our consultation. She refused to comment on the fact that the cake we received was nothing like the cake we had contracted and paid for. We again asked for a refund that would reflect the appearance of the cake. She told us she could not make that decision by herself but would get back to us. Almost a week later we still hadn’t heard back. I emailed again and received a one line email saying would we be credited for the decoration. Mind you, we ended up paying a significant amount of money for this disaster of a cake. At the end of the day, our biggest issue with Thirsty Whale Bakery was lack of integrity and respect for their customers. On your wedding day, choose someone who will see you as people, not dollar signs.

    The Thirsty Whale's reply:

Karissa, I'd like to start by apologizing that your wedding cake wasn't everything you've ever dreamt of. The day of your wedding our delivery vehicle was struck by another vehicle, with your cake inside, and the cake was damaged in the car accident... which is basically our worst nightmare and in my 6 years as a pastry chef this is the only time it has ever happened.

You're right, I was late to the delivery window of 4PM (not 1PM) that we confirmed with your venue coordinator, because of the accident. Before and during your ceremony I was frantically fixing your cake in the kitchen area of the venue, and I did my ABSOLUTE best to do everything I could to make it look like your cake was pristine. This did mean removing your bottom tier. In the end I truly believe that I presented a beautiful cake, and while it was a tier short, which broke my heart, I thought it looked fantastic. The staff at the venue and the catering agreed with me that the cake looked great, and during the room flip I found fresh flowers on your cake table we all agreed to use them as table decorations because you purchased sugar floral with me. Obviously you ended up with a three tier cake rather than four tiers and because of that we made a refund for both the bottom tier of the cake, the the delivery and set up fee of $255. After you both came in to chat with me, we issued another $175 for the artwork on the cake, as you requested, since you were not satisfied - even though we, still today, think your cake was beautiful.

Overall I know and understand that this was a mess, and I am so sorry that this all happened. If I could go back and take another road or route to avoid the driver who hit our car, I absolutely would. Our clients are our livelihood, and mean the world to us. I'm sorry you got the impression that this was all about money, and from the bottom of my heart please know that you, like the rest of our clients, mean more to us than that.

We wish you all the best and a happy marriage.
