The Sugary's Lesly McDevitt is a confectionary superstar. Some people don't like cake, but that is not me. I take cake very seriously. When wedding planning, I knew that I had to have a wedding cake that knocked it out of the park. Enter Lesly McDevitt of the Sugary. At our cake tasting, Lesly blew us away with flavor and style. First of all, she offers a FUNFETTI cake (which I obviously chose). Second, the buttercreams are so light and fluffy that my non-cake-loving husband went crazy for. On top of that, the Sugary's prices were incredibly reasonable. The Sugary was the obvious choice.
Come wedding day, the Sugary did not disappoint. The cake itself was stunning and the perfect centerpiece at our reception. The cake didn't just look good—it TASTED good. I cannot tell you how many people have raved to me about the cake (at the wedding, after the wedding, months later—it was that memorable). The funfetti was an absolute treat and surprise for our guests.
I cannot recommend the Sugary enough. -

My husband and I are truly at a loss for words at how perfect our wedding cake was. My husband and I are not big cake people and we wanted something a little different, so we went with a cookie cake. Our family and guests have not stopped talking about how delicious our cake was! We rented a cake stand from the Sugary and they gave great insight into how to cut this unique cake. We are so grateful that we got to work with them. The Sugary could not have been more perfect for us and our special day. -

Delicious wedding cake and cupcakes
Lesly created a delicious cutting cake and a variety of yummy cupcake flavors for our wedding. Our wedding guests loved the cupcakes and we received many compliments. In addition, our wedding cake and cupcakes were beautifully piped and tastefully decorated. Lesly was very communicative and great to work with. We definitely recommend The Sugary for any celebratory treats! -

Beautiful and delicious!
My partner and I loved doing the cake and frosting samples. Lesly was great to work with and her cake was perfect. We went with Banana cake with coffee frosting for our brunch wedding and it was perfect. It was delivered to the venue and florals were added- one less thing for me to worry about on our wedding day. -

We loved our wedding cake from The Sugary! The owner Lesly was amazing to work with, the cake looked perfect on our big day, and it was absolutely delicious! We knew we wanted a small, simple wedding cake for our modern, minimalist wedding in the city, and we wanted it to taste as good as it looked. Once we inquired with The Sugary and we did our tasting, we knew right away that we wanted them to make our cake. All of the flavors we tried were wonderful and it was hard to narrow down our favorites and make our final decision. The cake was such a hit for our wedding and we would highly recommend using The Sugary! -

The Sugary for our wedding cake was perfect. Our cake tasting was an amazing experience and actually yummy flavors - we chose the funfetti and chocolate fudge. The cake was beautiful and exactly what I wanted, the detail of the icing and message on the top is exactly what we wanted. Thank you sooo much!

Lesly was wonderful to work with throughout the entire wedding planning process. She was always very responsive by email. We went with a 3 layer cake with 2 flavor combinations: almond pound cake with key lime butter cream and a chocolate cake with milk chocolate buttercream. The cake looked beautiful and tasted delicious! We were very happy that we worked with The Sugary for our wedding! -

Small Queer Wedding
I used the Sugary in the past for my (now) husband's celebrations. Lesly is very easy to work with, and knows flavor combinations and profiles. Lesly provided clear instructions for us to provide to our reception venue, and delivered the cake herself! Communication was easy and consistent. -

Excellent experience!
I would highly recommend The Sugary! We had one of the smaller wedding cakes and it was absolutely exactly what I envisioned in terms of style and the taste was amazing. We had to pay for a cupcake tasting of a variety of flavors and then chose the flavors from there. Many of our guests commented on how delicious the hazelnut fill and yellow cake was! Thank you for making this part of our big day so perfect! -

Delicious and beautiful cake
We absolutely loved working with Lesly/The Sugary! We had our wedding on 10/30/22 and wanted a Nightmare Before Christmas themed cake and Lesly worked with us to create an elegant design that was feasible with buttercream frosting. The cake was absolutely delicious and by far the best tasting and most moist out of the places we did tastings. We went with two flavors the chocolate cake with mocha filling and the pumpkin cake with chocolate fudge filling. Best of all we have the top tier left over to eat later :) -

Best Cake Ever!!
My husband and I could not be happier with the cake Lesly made for our wedding!! We didn't want a typical cake, so when we saw she offered a chocolate chip cookie cake we were sold. Our friends and family are still raving about how delicious and unique it was. She also decorated it beautifully with our flowers and it truly matched our vibe. Lesly was so easy to work with, professional, flexible and a true artist. I can't recommend her enough!! -

I would definitely recommend Lesly/ The Sugary. Working with Lesly for our wedding cake and desserts was a seamless and stress free process. She was quick to respond to our emails and flexible with any changes we made to our cake/dessert order. Our wedding cake was exactly how we envisioned it! Also, our guests loved the desserts so much our caterer said they could not replenish the dessert table fast enough!! -

It was a pleasure working with Lesly from start to finish. Throughout the whole process, Lesly was communicative, prompt, and professional. We went with a 4-tiered lemon cake with strawberry frosting because we loved the lightness and airy-ness of the cake. The sweetness of the cake was perfect for us (not too sweet!). All of our guests raved about the cake and inquired about the bakery. This cake was one of the more affordable in the Philadelphia area as well--what a great value! The cake was delivered to our wedding venue with no issues. Overall, we had an amazing experience and would definitely recommend! -

Lesly was a dream to work with! Our cake was not only beautiful to look at and EXACTLY what we wanted but it was also beyond delicious. Everyone was raving about it all night! It was so good that the top tier that my husband and I saved to eat on our one year anniversary we ended up eating the next day and the next day until it was gone because we couldn’t help ourselves. -

Amazing Cake Vendor!
Leslie was an absolute joy to work with. From the beginning to the end, she was always incredibly professional, polished and pleasant to work with. The cake tasting blew my husband and I away and we could not be more thrilled with her cakes. Every guest raved about how delicious it was (it truly was). The cake was so important to me, and she did a gorgeous job of creating my dream cake and beautifully placing the flowers on the cake. I seriously could not have dreamt a more perfect cake for the day. I cannot recommend her enough! -

Wedding Cake
The Sugary did such an amazing job on our wedding cake! We got so many compliments on how tasty and beautiful it was! Lesly was so helpful with helping me determine the size of the cake based on our guest count as well as with any other questions I had. We were also planning our wedding during the pandemic, and they were super accommodating by offering an at home tasting during the thick of it. Lesly was always professional, polite, and an overall pleasure to work with! I will definitely continue to use The Sugary for all of our special events in future! -

We used The Sugary for our Wedding cake in August and we were astonished at the level of artistry Lesly put into our wedding cake. Not only was the cake delicious, but it was one of the most beautiful cakes I had ever seen, it looked like it was straight out of a magazine. The value for what you get far surpasses other wedding cake vendors in the area. Would highly recommend using The Sugary if you're in the market for an event cake. -

I found my forever baker!
Lesly, at The Sugary Philly, has been an absolute pleasure to work with! My husband and I only had 2 short months to plan a wedding and Lesly was very accommodating and punctual right from the beginning. As we were unable to go to her shop for tastings due to Covid, she provided us with a ‘to-go’ box where we could pick our own cake sponge and buttercream flavor pairings. If you’re confused as I was with what to pick, no worries! Lesly has you covered. I imagined the tasting size to be very small slices of cake but to my surprise they were full size cupcakes! As a cake lover, I was over the moon! The cake sponges were light and fluffy, and the buttercream had just the right amount of sweetness – not too sweet that it hits you in the mouth, but not bland either, it was just right. It tasted very fresh and not greasy at all. The only difficult part in this entire ordeal was picking the final flavor for our wedding cake. Everything was so delicious it honestly was very tough to pick just one pairing but, we were able to find solace in the fact that we really couldn’t go wrong no matter which choice we made. In the end, we went for Chocolate cake with Coffee Buttercream *insert chef's kiss emoji*
Once we made our decision, Lesly was very helpful in chalking out gorgeous ideas to design our cake as well. The photos speak for themselves. Fast forward to our wedding day – Lesly showed up early, as she had mentioned, and set everything up for us beautifully. The cake was stunning and tasted even better! The cake sponge was not dry at all even though it sat out for a few hours. There were also generous portions of buttercream layered in between, which in my opinion made the cake even more delightful. We couldn’t have asked for anything more.
All-in-all the process was very quick and straight to the point. She is excellent at communicating and we never had to worry about whether she would come through. Everyone who plans a wedding knows how stressful it can be so finding The Sugary truly was a blessing. If you’re in the area, do not hesitate to contact The Sugary for all of your cake/cupcake needs! -

We are so HAPPY we chose Lesly at The Sugary to create a trio of desserts for our microwedding. We knew we wanted something a little different and extra special for our secret garden-themed wedding.
She created:
- A beautiful and complex tasting two-tier lavender-flavored wedding cake with elderflower syrup and lemon buttercream
- A key lime panna cotta shooter with graham streusel, key lime curd and fresh blueberries
- A trifle of chocolate cake, espresso mousse, raspberry coulis and fresh raspberries
It was delicious and Lesly was so easy to work with! We are looking forward to our anniversary tier next year! -

Lesly was incredible to work with for our wedding day in November of 2019 at the Philadelphia Cricket Club. From the beginning I knew I wanted to do cupcakes but that I also wanted a cake for me and my husband to cut at the reception. Lesly set us up with a beautiful tasting experience in her studio in East Falls, which was honestly a fun little day date for us! She's extremely personable and easy going which made for a great partnership. She was able to work with our budget without compromising style.
When it came to the day of, she had EVERYTHING covered. I did not worry about a thing, she designed the whole cake/cupcake set up, loaned us the gorgeous cake stands to use, and ensured that she got florals from my florist to decorate. She also gave us plenty of time to return the loaned cake stands so we did not worry about it until after our honeymoon. Everything was delicious, got SO many compliments on how delicious it waws, and I literally ate leftover cupcakes on my honeymoon in absolute bliss. I can't recommend The Sugary enough. :) -

We chose The Sugary for our wedding cake out of several other vendors, and we are so glad we did! Lesly made the entire process easy, stress-free, and fun! The tasting was beautiful (love the special location of the shop!), and we had plenty of options without being overwhelmed. Everything was delicious, and Lesly helped us narrow down our likes into the perfect flavor combos. I also have an allergy, which Lesly too very seriously and did whatever she could to accommodate me and make sure I did not get sick on my big day. Our wedding cake turned out so beautiful and delicious! Lesly read my mind in terms of design. Everyone raved that it was the best tasting cake at a wedding they had ever had.
