Lisa from Lilacs was outstanding. I walked in one day after a failed attempt at making my own bouquets from silk flowers and asked if she could do a small wedding package for me. I was rather vague telling her I liked the simplicity of Orchids but also wanted a more wildflower look and that my color of choice was purples. I only needed 4 bouquets and a few corsages and boutonnieres and two pedestal arrangements, also with a wildflower look. I also requested a memorial bouquet for a daughter I lost to be tied to a chair.
When she showed up the day of the wedding with the flowers, I literally cried when I saw my bouquet, complete with a tiny picture of my daughter attached. It was better than I could've imagined a beautiful wildflower hand tied bouquet with pinks, purples, blues and greens. The maids had a simple hand tied bouquet of orchids and some wildflower greens and the men and mothers all matched with orchids and wildflowers. The pedestal arrangements were amazing and gorgeous. My daughter's memorial bouquet was simply perfect.
The price was reasonable and the service excellent. Her floral design was amazing and it was as if she knew exactly what I wanted despite my vague attempts at articulating it a few months prior.
I was beyond pleased with Lilac's and definitely recommend them for any floral needs. -

I loved working with Lisa, the owner of this store, and her bouquets were absolutely stunning. I told her what I had in mind for colors, size, and shape and she created beautiful pieces! She always answered the phone and remembered me and my wedding order, and delivered them herself before our wedding. Great work! -

Lisa at Lilacs of Sterling was a great to work with. I gave her complete creative license with our personal flowers and was blown away by her abilities. She designed the perfect bouquets and boutonnieres for our wedding day. -

Lisa provided the flowers for my wedding this summer, including the church and reception site. I would not recommend her. She wasn't terrible, but I wasn't happy overall with her service.
She took detailed notes at the two meetings we had, and yet on the day of the wedding, a number of things she had agreed to were missing. My bridal bouquet was lovely, however I had requested full, open rose blossoms (I wasn't picky about the type of rose - I just wanted big, fluffy roses) and she assured me that she could order a variety like that or blow them open before the ceremony. When my bouquet arrived, however, the blossoms were the typical, tightly-wrapped variety that you see everywhere - nothing like what she had promised. Though I must admit that the quality of the flowers was good - they were very fresh, with a beautiful color and a nice scent, and tied very prettily with a satiny pink bow.
I was also disappointed with my bridesmaids' bouquets (one was Gerberas with greenery and one was white daises and miniature roses - very simple). The flowers were all crushed together and tied too tightly - you couldn't even tell what the flowers were in the daisy/rose bouquet unless you looked up close. This is not what I asked for - I even showed her pictures of loosely-tied bouquets to illustrate what I wanted. The bridesmaid carrying the bouquet seemed unimpressed as well.
The pew decorations at the church were okay - white daises tied with yellow ribbon - if a bit messy. Lisa didn't have very clear or helpful ideas about how to make these - she seemed to rely on me for an explanation of how I wanted them tied, mounted, etc., when I needed and asked for her advice as a florist. As a result, they didn't look quite as I had imagined. What's more, she told me at the last minute that she couldn't find any wired, yellow ribbon and would have to use a non-wired type that would droop during the ceremony; however, I happened upon wired ribbon in the exact shade I wanted during a trip to Michael's craft store for something else. This discrepancy seemed to me the result of poor planning on Lisa's part.
Another problem was that I had very clearly requested and reiterated my desire for pastel colors, and Lisa ended up using bright pink and bright yellow Gerberas for both my Maid of Honor's bouquet and our reception centerpieces, as well as the decor in our cocktail hour room, which I had specifically requested that she NOT do. She also used transparent, chiffon-like ribbon on the centerpieces when I had asked for satin ribbon - and didn't even tie any of the requested bows on the vases! (the ribbon was just wrapped around the vases several times).
The Secret Garden's service was questionable, too. Lisa at first insisted on leaving the flowers in a cardboard box at the church before any of the wedding party arrived, and although she ended up meeting my brother at the church to deliver them, she neither helped us with any of the bouquets, decorations, corsages, or boutonnieres, nor stayed to answer any questions. When we spoke on the phone before the wedding, she even suggested leaving them on the church steps before we got there! I was extremely uncomfortable with this and convinced her to at least leave them in the church foyer. What's more, after meeting with and collecting the flowers from her, my brother said she seemed "flaky" - though he had nothing but praise for the wedding photographer, food service, and DJ.
On a lighter note, the pink Gerberas she arranged in my flower girl's basket were lovely, and the miniature-rose corsages I ordered for my mother and mother-in-law, grandmothers, and aunts were very fresh, pretty, and nicely assembled. The two large, mixed-flower altar pieces I ordered were also very beautiful and matched my requests precisely - I have no complaints about them. So there were some well-executed aspects of the floral service, but, overall, I was disappointed, especially since I had spent $1,350. (I realize this isn't a lot of money compared to some other weddings, but it was a lot for us; and it's enough to expect good service, especially for very simple, minimal designs).
One more thing I'd like to mention: Lisa didn't have any professionally printed invoices when we first met and sent me a hand-written copy of my initial order on yellow, ruled paper - not very professional. She also told me, when I requested a signed copy of our contract, that she preferred to use a "verbal contract" and that an official, written one wasn't necessary. I found this disconcerting and should have taken it as a sign.
I don't think any of my requests were demanding or unrealistic - and Lisa didn't seem to either when we discussed them prior to the wedding - so I really don't know why she wasn't able to accomodate them. It may be that she is overwhelmed and needs to hire more staff to keep up with the volume of orders she is receiving; whatever the case, her floral design and service needs improvement.
