We had our Wedding Ceremony + Reception at The Prado in April 2025. We are absolutely blown away by the professionalism, experience, and trustworthiness of this venue. Working with Rachael was a breeze, and she was able to answer any and every question, while also providing great ideas and advice! Everything was seamless and stress free, with the Prado handling all catering, bar, furniture, staffing, and even the cake! The venue itself is gorgeous, and was the most beautiful backdrop for our romantic, candlelit aesthetic. The food was delicious and fresh, and many of our guests were raving about it! We are so, so happy with our choice, and The Prado now has a special place in our hearts for years to come. -

A special day made really special!
When Marcy & I started working together & she found out I was engaged, she firmly told me that she was going to be my wedding coordinator & it became true! Thanks to marcy's experience & knowledge, my now wife & I had the wedding we never thought we could have. She really helped us with those little details that no one thinks about. Special thanks to the banquets department for all their hard work & professionalism. Their service was really detailed and on point! The whole team was able to cater to all our needs and those last minute changes that always happen (2 of my guest went from vegan to wanting the short ribs & the team made it happen :). Experience, Food, service & getting married at the center of Balboa Park made my wedding an event that we all really enjoyed and will remember for the rest of our lives! -

Spectacular venue & team!
We had a beautiful wedding at The Prado and loved working with their team. They were incredibly flexible and able to make all our wishes and desires a reality. When it rained last minute before our ceremony, they pivoted to an indoor ceremony and cocktail hour and both were beautiful. Thank you to everyone at The Prado for all their hard work to make our wedding everything we wanted it to be! The guests all raved about how gorgeous the venue was, and how much fun they had. -

My husband and I held our wedding at The Prado in November 2021, and it was EVERYTHING we could have hoped for and more!! Marcy Melley and The Prado saw us through our initial planning and three stressful COVID postponements over two years, at every opportunity going the extra mile to be flexible, kind, and accommodating during these crazy times. They told us at the start of the pandemic that we could cancel at any time and still get our deposits back – a very different policy than many other venues during COVID and it gave us great ease of mind. The wedding day finally came after the long wait, and we could not have been happier!! We held the cocktail hour in the courtyard and reception in the Grand Ballroom. Everything went just beautifully and according to plan, and we received soo many compliments from our guests about the venue, the food, dessert, all of it! The Prado is unique and a GORGEOUS venue, and we feel so lucky to have celebrated our wedding there. Thank you to Marcy and The Prado for making all of our dreams come true for our special day!!! -

We worked with Marcy and she helped us create our dream wedding day! Marcy went above and beyond to guide us through the wedding planning process and exceeded all of our expectations. Every detail on the wedding day of was perfect. The ceremony space, courtyard and ballroom were all gorgeous. The food and beverage service was excellent. We didn't need to worry about anything -- she took care of everything for us! Exactly how I wanted to feel on our wedding day.

Marcy is a true Godsend! We had countless, highly particular requests for our wedding at The Prado, and Marcy made each happen exactly as we envisioned. For a Type A bride like myself, Marcy’s communication style was a dream; she responds via email, text, or call (your preference) quickly, thoroughly, and thoughtfully. Her positive attitude, sense of humor, and exceptional level of helpfulness was always a breath of fresh air amidst general planning stress. Her passion for beautiful weddings is abundant and inspiring; it was an absolute delight to work with her.
As a venue, The Prado has it all: beautiful architecture, rich history, thoughtful details, and of course, location location location! The flow between chapters was seamless. We chose the Loggia Room for our smaller wedding reception, and our guests very much enjoyed the balconies overlooking the park.
Our guests cannot stop telling us that our wedding ceremony was the most beautiful they’ve ever attended. We are so happy we made the decision to have our big day at The Prado! -

First and foremost, Marcy is absolutely the best there is. Marcy is who we worked with for our wedding day and she took the stress out of a lot of things by answering every single question right away... it was very refreshing to have someone so dependable and so caring and this is what you would want especially when planning your reception.
Next, the venue itself is one of a kind. The Prado Ballroom sits in the heart of Balboa park, a place rich with San Diego history and beautiful architecture. I was born and raised in San Diego and had family from all over flying in so my husband and I wanted a place that highlighted the beauty of San Diego. It is not another hotel ballroom, which we truly appreciated. The ballroom has beautifully carved high ceilings with iron chandeliers and continuous wooden floors. Its gorgeous inside!
Another big reason we went with the Prado is for their FOOD! I've been to many weddings where I know they spent a lot on the food and its mediocre or the beef is super dry. Here, everything was delicious from the appetizers to the main course! For the main course we had braised beef, salmon, or ravioli and our guests kept saying how they downed it all in minutes because it was so good. Its awesome that the chef from the Prado restaurant also does the weddings so you know you are getting quality food.
Overall everyone from Marcy to all the amazing staff members who worked that night made our experience beyond what we could have imagined. I would recommend anyone contemplating on the Prado to DO IT! It is so worth it! Also we had 215 guests so anyone looking for a larger venue this is it... they also have an upstairs venue for smaller weddings that is gorgeous as well so they can do it all! Thank you again Marcy & the Prado staff, we will remember you always. -

Our wedding was like own fairy tale come to life! The venues we choose was the loggia room small yet just right for our wedding list. The wedding was beyond prefect and the staff were just amazing! Rachel (Catering sales Manager ) in particular had all the answers to any questions or concerns we had and would make sure we were not stressing over our special day. I would highly recommend the prado and their many venues! -

Gabriella Sent on 01/20/2017We had our wedding reception in the Loggia Room, looking out over both The Prado courtyard and the magnificent views of Balboa Park. I was surprised that the minimum costs for the Loggia were not actually any more expensive than other venues we toured yet the Loggia has the benefit of its beautiful décor, amazing location, and, of course, the awesomeness of The Prado catering.
We worked with Marcy Melley through the process and she definitely is “the boss” as many vendors we talked to said. Marcy did not only work out an order which kept The Prado’s high standards for their business, she organized an event which would provide our guests and us with lasting joyous memories. I was impressed that Marcy not only listened to our worries about other parts of the day but also was first to recommend how we could alleviate those worries. She worked with us wanting to bring in outside wine (fitting with The Prado’s regulations) from my dad’s favorite winery and even got us the scallops (add-on side dish for entrée) as a plated appetizer while respecting those who cannot eat shellfish by providing a beet salad.
Speaking of the food, The Prado’s white-glove service came through at the reception. Guests were served their plates simultaneously and those who had dietary restrictions received a pleasant surprise when the staff placed their customized dishes in-front of them without asking questions or bringing attention to it (Marcy was right – place cards with specific symbols help!). Everyone kept mentioning how impressed they were with the service and how elegant each course was (four, in all: plated appetizer, soup, entrée, cake). Also, and probably most enjoyed, everyone was happy that the staff never left a glass empty yet were never pushy to serve more alcohol. It was the perfect balance.
We have always loved The Prado for their professionalism and enjoyable food, all situated in my favorite park in San Diego. It was such a special and memorable experience! -

Rebecca Sent on 02/21/2012Honestly - choosing the Prado was one of the most important decisions we made. They had everything completely under control. The food is AMAZING (understandably as it comes from their fabulous restaurant), the staff was friendly, professional, and everything was just perfect. When we thought it might rain they worked with our coordinator to help make sure our backup plan was in place (though luckily we didn't need it).
We used the Loggia room, for a smaller wedding, and the whole ambiance was just exactly what we were hoping for. Thanks so much!! -

Kristine Sent on 02/01/2011We had our wedding reception at The Prado. It was the first and only place we looked at for our reception venue! I knew long before I was engaged that I wanted my reception there. At first glance, the grand ballroom looks rather simple and old. But once it is decorated and lit properly, it looks absolutely amazing. Our theme had a lot of Spanish-Italian influences, (since I am part Spanish and my husband is Italian) so the ambiance was perfect for our wedding style.
Marcy Melley, our coordinator at The Prado, was amazing. We planned our entire wedding reception with her mostly over the phone and via email since we don't live in San Diego, and she ALWAYS responded right away and answered every single question I had about anything and everything at The Prado. And when we were finally in town for the wedding and met with her in person to discuss final details, she was always on point, professional, fun, and super helpful. She was even accommodating and patient when my husband's father (who was not so welcome in our wedding planning process but took it upon himself to talk to her) had some less than polite thoughts on our wedding reception and decided to tell her. (Talk about embarrassing!) Marcy is truly a professional and she made the wedding planning process infinitely easier and much more enjoyable.
On our wedding day, it rained...A LOT. So things had to move around at the last minute and we didn't get to have our cocktail reception in the fountain courtyard like we had planned. But the staff at The Prado made it all work out and everyone had a grand time. There were two other events happening at the same time, and we were all confined to the building due to the rain, but somehow it all worked out perfectly.
The synchronized service was fabulous, the banquet captain was attentive and introduced himself to my husband and I at the reception and checked in on us throughout the night, and our guests had nothing but praise for the wait staff. One guest couldn't eat the first course (lobster bisque) due to a food allergy, and without asking he was offered a salad instead.
I somehow managed to leave behind our scrapbook from our photo booth, but the staff kept it safe and on Monday morning, Marcy notified us right away that she had it for us. *Whew!*
Though The Prado is quite pricey, we have nothing but praise. Food was great, people were great, room was great, EVERYTHING was great. :)

Jeni Sent on 04/28/2013I narrowed down the reception venue choices from 10 to 2 for my (now) husband. He walked into the Prado and said - this is it. The grand ballroom offers a gorgeous, historic, and classically San Diego locale. The coordinator, Marcy was exceptionally responsive and upfront throughout the entire process. She had a tendency to give an overwhelming amount of information, but was very patient and explained things step by step as we reached milestones along the way.
We were bummed we wouldn't get to taste the exact appetizers and entrees that would be served at our wedding. They did give us a voucher for a lunch at the Prado restaurant to get an idea of the quality of food we'd be eating. Knowing it's run by the Coen Restaurant group, we trusted them. Wow. We got raves for days. I had the salmon and my husband had the NY Strip. I liked the salmon better - the NY Strip was tasty, but it didn't have the Prado originality. They have a contract with Flour Power that included our wedding cake and all the services involved. That was a huge help as well. My only complaint would be the bar and menu selection and pricing was not at all straightforward. There's a separate cocktail reception and dinner reception section and it's unclear how the alcohol works. Thankfully Marcy was very patient with us and after several exchanges, we finally understood each other.
The synchronized service was cool to watch. It sped up the dinner time and no one got cold food. Each table was served in synchronicity - that way each table was plated then immediately served. All the tables were served within about 15-20 min (that's 14 tables!) Everything went very smoothly, setup and take down were seamless and professional.
We were very pleased with the entire planning experience with the Prado.

Amanda Sent on 08/11/2012Beautiful venue for the price! However, u are only provided chairs and not guarenteed sound (double check). Also, there is no real privacy....strangers love weddings too.
