We highly recommend the Novel Baker! Alexis made our wedding cake and did an absolutely phenomenal job. The cake turned out beautiful and delicious, and we received lots of compliments from our guests! We really enjoyed the complimentary tasting and appreciated how Alexis listened and took all our preferences into consideration as she made us the perfect cake. She is super talented and knowledgeable and understood exactly how much cake we would need for our event and even how the icing should lay depending on the room temperature to make sure it all stayed together. She thought of details that we as the bride and groom didn’t. Alexis was super responsive via email and personally delivered the cake to our venue on a Sunday. You can just tell how much heart and soul goes into each dessert, so if you’re in need of desserts for your large event or just want a delicious treat, look no further!! 10/10! Thank you, Alexis! -

We met with Alexa to taste her cakes for our wedding and absolutely loved every flavor she provided us with. She was incredibly helpful when choosing on a wedding cake flavor and cupcake flavors for our guests. She had many choices to choose from and we were blown away at all the combinations we could do! Our wedding cake was absolutely stunning and the cupcakes were a hit! All the guests enjoyed them and were impressed with her attention to detail on decorating. We cannot thank her enough for her hard work! -

Wonderfully delighted
Alexis did an amazing job on our wedding cake. We even contacted her a month before the wedding and she pulled it together with no problem. We did an apple and a banana cake with the salted caramel icing...absolutely amazing! All of our guests loved the cake, no leftovers 😊 Our cake was gorgeous, put together with elegance and wonderful talent. We couldn’t have asked for anything better. We would definitely recommend Alexis and go to her for our future events. -

Delicious cakes and skilled design
Alexis was a pleasure to work with. She went out of her way to accommodate a special design request and went through several design iterations until she perfected the design. The cake was beautiful on the day of the wedding, and she artistically placed the flowers that the floral designer brought which matched the centerpieces. Alexis's cakes are exceptional in flavor and texture, and we received numerous compliments from our guests about how good the cake tasted. Her cookies are great, too! We would definitely work with her again in a heartbeat. -

Absolute perfection
We had a FANTASTIC experience with Alexis from The Novel Baker! I found her through some googling and I loved the aesthetic of her cakes and her website. Everything looked gorgeous. The most important thing to me, of course, was that our cake also tasted delicious, and when we went to taste Alexis' cakes at her (adorable) studio, it was no question that we would hire her. The cake, both at the tasting and at our wedding, was moist and rich with really tasty icing. It was also very flavorful, which our guests commented was not always the case with wedding cakes (we chose almond cake). In terms of design, I had tons of photos from Pinterest and I felt like Alexis really paid attention to what I wanted, helping me hone in on which details I liked best. She executed the cake decoration flawlessly on the day of. I was really bowled over when I saw it! I spent a lot of time looking at sites like Style Me Pretty and I can honestly say that my wedding cake turned out to be my favorite of all the ones I've seen. Another thing that was important to me was the price, and Alexis' pricing is extremely reasonable. Considering that the quality of her cakes is much higher than some of the other places we tasted, I was really pleased that the price was well within our budget. She didn't push us to have a bigger cake than we needed, either, because she considered factors like other desserts we were having and how some guests just don't end up eating the cake. Even though she was coming from an hour away, since our wedding was near Philadelphia, she did not charge very much for delivery (in fact I think she lowered her delivery price for us). She is also very responsive to email, which is great; it is so much easier to trust a vendor when they are very organized, as Alexis is. My florist even told me that I had found a baker who knew what she was doing when I mentioned that Alexis preferred to place the flowers on the cake herself, rather than having the florist do it. Both my husband and I were so, so happy with the entire process working with Alexis, especially the end result (you can see it in the photos of our faces when we take our first bite!). Take it from someone who did a lot of research to ensure she was getting the best quality, both taste and looks-wise, for the best price - hire The Novel Baker! -

Working with Alexis was wonderful--she is very professional, responded to all my requests, and her bakery is so beautiful! I received many compliments from guests on the beauty of the cake and how delicious each layer was. I recommend Alexis and The Novel Baker hands down!

Delaney Sent on 10/02/2018My family has used The Novel Baker on several occasions and each time, our guests come to us with nothing but amazing compliments on the cookies, cakes, cupcakes, and shimmering Oreos! Alexis and her team are professional and kind and created a stunning Sweet Table for my mother's 60th birthday bash and my nephews Baptism. My sister and mom got to experience a really adorable putting together while they sampled the various cakes and fillings before choosing which ones they wanted. I've also worked personally on multiple occasions with Alexis for wedding and stylized shoots and her cakes are always beautiful, always a novelty, and always DELICIOUS!

The attention to detail was outstanding and the cake tasted even better than it looked!! Service and communication was tremendous. The day of, the cake was delivered to my house and was set up. I would recommend The Novel Baker to anyone!! They are amazing !!

Sharon Sent on 01/18/2018I contacted Alexis to create a dessert table for a bridal shower I was hosting. She was quick to respond to all of my questions, and she made the ordering process way easier than I would have ever anticipated.
The dessert table setup was provided by Alexis, and it was beautiful!
The desserts I ordered included a focal cake, mini macarons, salted caramel chocolate chip cookies, mini chocolate pretzels, and mini chocolate dipped Oreos. Everything was so delicious!
Alexis was so easy to work with and I look forward to working with her again! -

Her presentation is beautiful and everything is so yummy too!! Alexis did my bridal shower cake and also did an entire arrangement of goodies for my (surprise) engagement!!! Every detail ( and every bite) was perfect!! -
Gilmarlee Sent on 11/27/2017This company is amazing, Alexis has a lot of talents in her cake decorating ,i was probably the only bride who got to see the bakery vendor set up the cake, she was in and out but simply took her time with the placement of each flower and the layout was phenomenal everyone could smell the fresh flowers and greens so fresh !! as for taste the cake was so good we had an almond cake with almond merengue buttercream, tasted just as good as it sounds tbh, my husbdand and i ate a piece of the anniversary cake before we froze it because it was too good to freeze the whole tier right away lol thank you so much Alexis we appreciate your work and your time ❤️

She provided an amazing "deconstructed" tasting that allowed me to try dozens of combinations of cake and filling (which were ALL amazing). Alexis was incredibly friendly and accommodating as well. She truly has an 'art' to the way she prepares her cakes to ensure they are the best quality for your day depending on the climate which was impressive in itself. Totally worth a little extra money to go with the best!

We ended up having to make several changes to our order due to Covid-19 and Alexis was incredibly accommodating and created a beautiful cake to help make our small ceremony feel extra special. She was a little bit slow to respond at times, but always got back to us and everything worked out great. She also provided us with a great tasting selection and allowed us to make each tier a different combination of flavors and icing. It was a truly delicious cake. -

Overall our experience with The Novel Baker was good. Alexis was very easy to work with and provided everything as promised. We ordered a sweetheart cake and various cupcakes for our wedding. Everything looked very pretty. The only thing I was a little disappointed in was that the cake was a bit dry. It wasn't as moist as when we did our cake tasting, but it was still tasty. Would have just liked them to be more moist. -

2020 wedding planning was not the easiest for brides or vendors. Before the world went into turmoil, we met with Alexis from the Novel Baker, to pick out our cake flavors for a wedding that was almost two years away. We learned that with our specific venue choice, vendors treated us like we were royalty. Our initial venue choice for the reception had a very exclusive list of vendors. Once shut downs started to happen, I kept all my vendors in the loop the best I could. Some said I was the most informative bride they’d ever had, but things were changing daily!
With that said, I kept Alexis in the loop. Long story short(er), I didn’t feel the same love and joy when I informed her of our final decision was to sadly cancel our initial venue and go with a venue 30 minutes from our originally one, due to the outdoor capacity availability.
I felt the frustration on her end and was told that they would “try and make it” for set up a half hour before guests started to arrive. She also told me because I moved my venue 30 minutes from our originally one, she will not have time to decorate my cake with florals. If I wanted flowers, she told me someone needed to bring the flowers to her the day before the wedding. My mother, who has the heart of a saint and who is pushing 70, ended up driving 4 hours that day and luckily making it to the rehearsal on time. I informed Alexis of this added stress and she had zero empathy. She treated my mother poorly when she dropped off the flowers. After my mother’s travels back, she asked me how could I give my money to someone that treats others human beings that way. I was heartbroken she went through this the day before the wedding.
Alexis ended up charging us an extra $75.00 for her 30 extra minutes of travel. Which I get, but it didn’t add up to IRS-proof mileage or wasn’t previously mentioned to us. When billing us, she lost track of our previous deposits we have made.
The matradee at our new venue spoke to my husband after the reception and informed us that Alexis was not the one who delivered the cake anyway and one particular flavor of the cake wasn’t able to be served. She explained to us that the cake was so dry it was falling apart.
Lastly, when we first had tasting with Alexis, she made it a point to tell us do not freeze her cake! She said she’d be more than happy to bake us a fresh anniversary cake on our 1 year so we don’t have to eat a yucky frozen cake. She explained she does this for her couples. I thought this was a great gesture and it really sealed the deal for us when deciding to go with her! At the end of our reception, the matradee handed us our 1 year anniversary cake. No decoration & flavor unknown. I guess she just wanted to get rid of us! I’m not sure why because each interaction with her was brief and she acted like we were best friends at our first meeting! Some vendors were not as nice to work with during these times, and some were SO nice and accommodating. After all, we are all going through this together! Unfortunately, Alexis wasn’t on my list of easy to work with vendors. It’s a shame, but I just cannot recommend her or her business. We wish her the best and hope she doesn’t treat any more couples this way!
