    Kimberly is the best!

This home was the perfect size for our needs, featuring gorgeous bushes and grounds. They had all the amenities I needed to make my wedding day amazing. All of that coupled with Kimberly's excellent, thoughtful, and generous help made our day perfect. I can't thank everyone at the Mary Gay House enough.

    Saved our reception!

Our original venue canceled about a month out from our wedding and Kimberly saved the day. We were able to tour almost immediately and she had great suggestions for how to use the space and set up tables and chairs. She even gave us company ideas for rentals of tents, heaters and etc.
The Mary Gay House ended up being better than our original venue would have been and the decor is amazing.
Thank you to helping us have the wedding day of our dreams!

    Beautiful Southern Summer Wedding

I got married at the Mary Gay House earlier this month and had an absolutely wonderful experience! It was a beautiful event (despite the rain) and the staff was so accommodating and kind throughout the planning process. It was a great value and the perfect venue for a charming, southern wedding!

The Mary Gay House was the perfect venue for our wedding and the planning was stress-free and easy from beginning to end. Missy, the office manager, was a delight to work with and always responded immediately to our questions. The house has beautiful rooms and a lovely patio. The price was incredible, especially considering they have their own tables and chairs and don't require an alcohol package. For a small wedding, the venue can easily accommodate an inside or outside ceremony depending on weather, with various options for seating arrangements. The house can be easily decorated with your personal touch, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Our guests raved about the venue.

Our wedding at the Mary Gay House was amazing!!! We ended up with a guest count of 138 and were able to comfortable fit everyone for our seated/plated dinner with a combination of tables inside and on the patio. We even had a long estate table on the patio that turned out amazing! We actually did our ceremony at the park next door and that worked out perfectly. The only thing to double check is whether or not you have access to the basement- make sure you are certain of this b/c we had some issues day of until we pulled out our contract and then it was all good. Our guests stayed at the Courtyard Marriott right in downtown Decatur and it was super easy for everyone logistically with MARTA being right there and plenty of lyft/uber's around. Missy is awesome to work with and we absolutely loved getting married at the Mary Gay House!

We are so happy we chose the Mary Gay house as our wedding venue. Throughout the planning process Missy was quick to respond with any questions we had. And we had a lot. The house is beautiful and the outdoor area was a perfect setting for our ceremony. The time slot available to us ( Saturday morning/afternoon) was perfect for our brunch wedding. It's a great plus that there is plenty of parking right across the street. And downtown Decatur is within walking distance.

The venue was the perfect setting for our wedding day ceremony and reception. We had close to 100 guests and that seemed to be just the right fit with dancing and some tables indoors and more tables outside to enjoy the perfect spring evening. The venue is beautiful, flowers in the courtyard were blooming and it felt like too much decorating would be a bad thing!

I couldn't be happier with the way our wedding day turned out at this venue! We had 100 guests with a seated dinner and space for a dance floor, and it was the perfect amount of space. We had a tent for the outdoor area and it turned out beautifully. We worked with Elizabeth and Missy and they were easy to get a hold of and gave us some great advice and ideas. We loved the cozy feel of this venue - very unique in that it doesn't feel like a grand reception hall. Parking was very easy for guests and its conveniently located close enough to the Marriot downtown.

We planned our wedding from Phoenix and we had the most stress free experience. Elizabeth was an absolute pleasure to work with. Our wedding was beautiful and just perfect.

They have the perfect size facility for a small wedding. We provided the set up and tear down with the help of a few friends, and our deposit was returned promptly.

We chose to hsve the ceremony outside and the reception inside. It was easy for our guests to transition easily.

We chose two food truck vendors from their list and we loved them. My husband is a chef and was not to keen on having food trucks. But we found that they werevery reasonably priced and the guests loved the food.

Absolutely beautiful venue, wonderful people to work with. Super flexible with last minute needs- including need for a rain tent and location to assemble/leave paper lanterns for bride and groom departure. Very helpful and clear with what is/is not ok to do.

Thank goodness we chose MGH for BOTH our rehearsal dinner and wedding locaion (both ceremony and reception!) Elizabeth is a joy to work with; she's so generous with her time and resources. The venue itself is so beautiful and feels cozy like a relative's home. It's an ideal size for a 100 person event. It is easy to find for guests and offers easy parking. Many great locations on site for photography. I could go on. Great for our vintage garden wedding and casual barbecue rehearsal. Great price - AND it's a nonprofit! Amazing.

We had our wedding reception at the Mary Gay House and it was outstanding. The wedding was at our church in the morning, then we came over for an indoor/outdoor fun and games reception catered by Farm Burger.

I dealt mostly with Elizabeth, the main contact there. From the moment I started planning and saw the space I knew it would be excellent. Elizabeth was super easy to work with and very helpful with suggestions, timelines, organization . . . all the stuff I didn't know because I'd clearly never planned a wedding before!

The day of the wedding things went off without a hitch. Brandon was there onsite if needed, but as far as I know everything went very smoothly.

One of the best things about this space is how "warm" it is, and how little decoration is needed if that's not your thing. We just had tablecloths and lots of bunches of very colorful flowers, and it was perfect.

I would hold another even at the MGH in a heartbeat!

The Mary Gay House was the perfect venue for the Rehearsal Dinner and Welcome Reception for out of town guests. The House itself is beautifully restored and maintained and the outside patio is spacious. Elizabeth is wonderful to work with - very accessible and accomodating. Knowing that the rental benefits the Junior League and their work in the community was an added plus.

We loved the Mary Gay. Brandon was very helpful and made sure our event went well. We did have a couple of minor issues that he resolved right away. There were some ants in the kitchen, and he came and sprayed immediately, and a couple of the lights on the patio were out, and again, he came and got as many of them working as he could. We appreciate all of his help that evening. Elizabeth was very professional and helpful as we were planning our prom. They both were a pleasure to work with.

We had our 60-person rehearsal dinner at the Mary Gay House, and it was more lovely than I could have imagined! Elizabeth was responsive, helpful, and flexible during the planning process. We worked with a "non-preferred" caterer because of the particular kind of food we wanted to serve, and she was a great resource for them.
Many of our guests were staying at the Marriott in Decatur, and they walked to the Mary Gay House. For in-town folks, there's plenty of parking across the street.
It was a beautiful night, so we used the lovely back patio for cocktails, and then came inside for dinner. We hardly decorated-- just some lanterns and candles, and it looked beautiful! The pictures are amazing. The only problem we had was that everyone was having such a good time that we didn't want to leave!

Elizabeth at the Mary Gay house was great to work with. She had lots of ideas and asked great questions that helped us think of things about the event that we may not have thought of on our own. A sign of good experience!
We had almost 70 guests at our reception, and the house was just the right size. Because of weather, we were unable to use the patio (sadly!), but that would have provided more space to spread out. Being limited to the inside of the house, I felt like we maxed the space out. Our caterer was able to fold up some tables after dinner to make more room for dancing afterwards. So, they have tables for 100 at the Mary Gay house, but I wouldn't recommend planning on more than 80 guests (for a sit-down meal) there, especially if you want space to move around, mingle and dance.

I could not possibly be more pleased with my choice to hold my wedding reception at the Mary Gay House. My ceremony took place at a nearby chapel, and the Mary Gay House is very conveniently located and was easy to find even for my out-of-town guests. It also has the historic charm and traditional decor that I was looking for. During the planning process, the representatives I worked with were professional and friendly. They provided me with all kinds of details and suggestions along the way which made planning my event from out of town much easier. Coordinating with other vendors--like my caterer and florist--was also easy because the Mary Gay House already has established relationships with many local businesses. Finally, the price for the venue rental is an excellent value, especially compared to other options in the Atlanta area. There is nowhere else you can find such a historic venue with beautiful character and professional services for such a great price. I highly recommend booking an event with the Mary Gay House!

I swear this place is Decatur's best kept secret. I didn't know it exists till I started searching for a small venue for my wedding. Not only was the venue beautiful, but the price was amazing. I found an awesome caterer through the venue (Bodkay by Joann ) who also did my flowers for the wedding, but with the garden set up outside I didn't need much flowers. I tell everyone I know about this place. It's beautiful.

Our rehearsal dinner at the Mary Gay House was a great family and friend event. We found the staff very responsive and helpful with planning and suggestions. We were allowed all the time we needed to look and plan at the venue on an as many visits as we needed. The staff was also very responsive and a great help with all details the night of the rehearsal dinner before, during, and after the event. The remodeling that has taken place inside and with the patio at the Mary Gay House has created an updated, warm venue.

I can not say enough good things about The Mary Gay House!! I feel in love with the venue upon site and was amazed at the service and pure friendliness! So many things can cause stress when planning/having a wedding but MGH was never a stress in fact they were more of a help in relieving stress in many situations!! Our wedding was beautiful and so much fun and I attribute a lot of that to the MGH and staff!!! I would recommend MGH to anyone for a wedding (or any function) it is beautiful (and the recent renovations are amazing)!!

Kim was awesome to work with! She even let us drop some stuff off the day before and made sure that the reception ran smoothly. Mary Gay House is so beautiful and very photogenic. The value also can't be beat in Atlanta.

The Mary Gay House is a beautiful and affordable location for your wedding and reception of fewer than 200 guests. May is an excellent time to have a wedding here as well because there are lots of flowers blooming and you have space to bring in your own flowers to make things look even more beautiful. Parking is convenient and there is plenty of it as the church nearest to this venue allows wedding guests to use their parking lot. A tent is recommended for the outside part of the venue but this is very easy to accomplish and was set up for us the night before the wedding. All of our guests complimented our choice of venue and some even indicated that they would consider it for a future event. We appreciate how easy it was to make a reservation and how accommodating Kim Brookhart at the Mary Gay House was when we were arranging all the details.

MGH is a delightful venue for smaller intimate receptions and events. The property manager/rental agent, Kim, is probably its best asset as she is so nice and helpful. She really helped us reduce some of the stress surrounding our event. We would definitely use this facility again.

I love the Mary Gay House. I'm not sure about the other reviewer who was so unhappy. I did use an approved caterer-Talk of the town. But Kim was only present at the beginning of the set up and I didn't see her at all during the wedding. To note, there is a $500 deposit and then the fee. For some reason I didn't understand that. But you get the $500 back if all of the cleanup is completed as agreed.
It is so pretty and had so many locations for great photos as well. We did the ceremony inside, then went to the patio for cocktails, then back in for a buffet dinner. I was a bit worried as the main room was very rose colored. But when all of the table were set-up it was fine. We used their tables, and had our caterers rent chivari chairs. They looked so nice. Loved the big table at the back for our cake tables. We put flowers on the mantels with small votive candles. It was very sweet. Highly recommend.

A beautiful venue, and perfect for our small (30 guests) combined ceremony and reception. Kim is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I cannot say enough positive comments/compliments about Kim Brookhart and the Mary Gay House venue. I'm a "non-traditional" bride - this was my 3rd (and final) marriage - I'm not a 20 (nor 30 or 40) something, so we knew we wanted an adult party (with a live band). I viewed several other venues, but when I visited the MGH, I knew I found "my place." It easily accomodated our 100 guests (7 tables) inside and on the courtyard.
We reserved once, but then changed out minds on the whole wedding thing, and then changed our minds again... (I'm a woman). Kim was incredibly understanding and worked with us during our many visits to ensure our wedding was a memorable event not soon to be forgotten. We received our deposit back promptly the week following the wedding, which helped since my husband was laid off the day he went back to work!
It's a great venue, stop by and visit - say hello to Kim. She goes the extra mile to ensure your needs are met and worked incredibly well with our caterers. Weddings are stressful - having ours at the MGH and working with Kim really helped me alleviate a lot of the stress.

The Mary Gay House fit our needs perfectly. The room size was good for the amount of people we had, the house was clean, and we had all of our questions answered quickly. Parking was OK, most parking was across the street & up a hill in a church parking lot.

    Mpre than we expected

This house, while not elaborate, is named for the Confederate woman who lived there her whole life...she is famed for writing a diary that showed what it was like for women and small homesteads during the Civil War period and during Reconstruction.
There is a couch where legend has it that Gen. McPherson (the local Army base = Fort McPherson/Fort Mac) laid upon as he was stitched up.
It needs some work now, but...
The Junior League now owns the house. They provided tables for outdoor and indoor seating. We hired a DJ (Vanessa the DJ; 678-851-3497) with her own sound system. I emailed a playlist, and she provided every song by every artist I indicated; including Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne and Consuelo Velázquez as well as Motown, Stax-Volt, Aretha, etc--we are old)
We also hired a caterer, Keith Hand (770-402-7673)
Not only was the food great, but his staff were very professional while being friendly.
We had an open bar outside, and enough light that people didn't wander off unescorted.
The League supplied tables for food and cutlery (we used our own)
Best of all, the House's Kimberley (404-378-2162) was incredibly responsive to all of our visits (can we do this? Is that moveable? etc) The poor woman was cheerful and not at ALL surprised or troubled by the fact that this was a smae-sex marriage reception (the actual wedding was elsewhere, earlier in the year)
May was the perfect time--no bugs, lovely temperature--but there is no reason why you can't have citronella candles and fans outside (interior is air conditioned)
There are several bathrrooms, places to display pictures, and a full kitchen, EASY access from the street, including ramps for wheelies.
The interior could use some work--it's a litle bit bare-bones--but very clean, with gleaming wood work.
You get the place from 15:00 - 23:00, so think about time for set ups, and when you neeed to take everything down (we had put up strings of lights, foam board pix of us over the years, balloons, etc)
    Price = $1450

The large back room can have multiple tables for seated parties, but the real magic of the place is the outdoor patio behind the house.

I rented the Mary Gay House for my Doctorte graduation luncheon. Although it was not a wedding or rehearsal dinner, I was treated with the attention to detail granted a bride or wedding plaaner. Not only was Missy, the house mgr. there from beginning to end, she came to the rescue and provided a projector when I forgot mine! In addition, prior to the event the patio was full of leaves and she made sure the patio was impeccable prior to the event. It was also obvious the vendors (DJ Troy & Executive Caterrs) selected and approved were very familiar with the venue and worked well together. Thanks Missy for your detail very step of the way, evicted & follow thru. Dr. Tracey

We had our wedding at the Mary Gay House in February. Ok yes, it's small, but it's such a cozy and intimate venue, especially if you're sharing an event with 100 or less or your closest friends. The staff members were very friendly, accommodating, and went above and beyond to provide us with the information we needed—including offering suggestions based on their experience. It was great that the rental came with tables and chairs, working fireplaces, and access to the porch outside, as well as guided tours. It is a little disappointing that you can't provide food made by your family, but we are so happy to have ended up choosing Farm Burger from their recommended caterers list, which was amazing and delicious. Overall, I couldn't have asked for a more perfect place to have our wedding. Very highly recommended!

We had 160 adult guests plus 10 children for our wedding at the Mary Gay House. The venue was fully packed, but it did not rain and people were able to spread out throughout the main room and patio. Working with the Mary Gay House was easy and stress free. They handled everything professionally and allowed us to bring in our own vendors which was a huge plus! The house is absolutely beautiful and well restored. The patio is even better!

Great venue for our son's rehearsal dinner. I was sad that it rained and we couldn't take advantage of the beautiful outdoor patio. That was a big reason we chose this venue, but it was not meant to be! We still had a wonderful time and Elizabeth and Brandon were very helpful with all of our requests. We had 60 people at our event and I can't imagine a lot more people being inside, it would get quite crowded. Our only regret was the rain!

    Perfect sized venue

We had our wedding ceremony at another location and celebrated our wedding reception at this venue with about 110 guests. They provided 10 tables and 100 chairs and allowed us to personalize the location with additional furniture and decor. We added a tent on the rear patio to create a separate "room" for drinks and dancing. It worked wonderfully for us, but is definitely not needed on a nice day. Our guests had a wonderful time. The staff was helpful and accommodating. I had to email questions and requests (instead of speak to someone directly) during the planning period since there isn't anyone consistently on site, but they typically responded within 24 hours and were on site when needed just prior to and during the actual event. Nice, historic, cozy home.

We held our son's rehearsal dinner at Mary Gay House. We had dinner for 50 people and the space was just right. We couldn't have fit many more with the bar set up in the room with the tables. The space is beautiful and Elizabeth was helpful when needed. Fox Bros Bar B Que catered and the food was excellent. If it had been a little warmer and we could have utilized the patio more it would have been perfect. The bar and Morellis ice cream outside would have made the space a little less crowded. It was a lovely evening and we were very pleased with the space and the food.

Lovely setting! The home lended itself to the charm of the day and there were many sweet spots for pictures. The rhododendrons were in bloom so the patio was beautiful. Our guests all raved about the location.

Smallish indoors so be sure to use the patio as well. We were married outdoors and had a seated dinner for our 65 guests indoors. Be sure that the AC is turned on while you are setting up as it was a bit uncomfortable when we all sat down to dinner.

As we left the cleanup to our family and friends (bless them!) I could not say for sure what damage was done, but we were charged $100 for the carpet cleaning. I'm just saying.

We had both our ceremony and reception at the Mary Gay House, and we absolutely loved it.

We had 62 guests, and the venue was perfect for this amount. Behind the home is a beautiful brick patio and gardens full of hydrangeas. This is where we were married, and it was idyllic for our intimate ceremony.

The venue--a antebellum home with a rich history--is managed by the Junior League, and one woman runs the show. Her name is Kim, and she is most helpful, friendly and easy to deal with.

The venue provides metal folding chairs, so we rented our own higher-end chairs. The venue provides 9 60" round tables. We rented our own linens.

We had our reception indoors and outdoors.

There's a noise ordinance in Decatur, so all the speakers had to be inside, which was a drawback. The home is registered as a Historic Landmark, which provided a few setbacks, including no sparklers for our exit at the end of the evening.

But those small things paled in comparison to the beautiful setting for our big day. We loved the Mary Gay House for its strength, its story, its comfortableness, for its being gay-friendly and its quick access to Atlanta. Our photos were gorgeous, our guests were happy and our wedding was the best day of our lives.

They were great!! There was a management switch over halfway through planning our wedding, and it ended up being the best thing that could happen. Elizabeth Scott was so sweet and helpful. The venue was renovated right before our wedding it looks amazing. Very elegant and breathtaking at night with the soft lighting. I had a themed wedding and they were completely happy to let us hang our weird banners and set out our inflatable villains. It was a perfect night. So much thanks goes to Elizabeth Scott and the Mary Gay House for making our wedding a complete blast!

Farm Burger catered an event at The Mary Gay House on August 17, for a group of about 200. The space was beautiful, well cared for and easy to work in. The kitchen facilities are a great staging location for off-site caterers and the flow of the space makes serving simple. Elizabeth, the Office Manager was a pleasure to work with. We look forward to catering future events at The Mary Gay House.

The Mary Gay house had exactly what we wanted. Small intimate venue that allowed us to bring in our own alcohol and caterer. Leading up to the day the response time was spotty, we sometimes wouldn't get a response for a week. We had asked to rent the space for the rehearsal dinner, but they went ahead and booked the space after our meeting. They said they sent out an email asking for confirmation. We asked to see the email, yet they could not produce it. The night of our wedding the coordinator was not who we expected. We had never met her and were not allowed to have her number in case of emergencies. We had rented chairs in addiction to the ones the MGH owned. Although our clean up crew that consisted of family and friends had already separated out the chairs she made them stack and unstack 150 chairs THREE times because she miscounted. She also made my guests pick up ice that was spilt on the lawn after the reception was over.
