would give them more than 5 stars if I could!

We had such a positive and pleasant experience with The Margate. The team they have are so incredible to work with. Our wedding did not go as planned but they were able to pivot and adapt and be there for us. We cannot speak more highly of Caroline and Kim, specifically, for working with us. You will be in great hands!

    Breathtaking

We had our wedding at the margate in the outdoor tent space. The view was absolutely beautiful. We loved that our friends and family were able to make a weekend out of it and all stay on site with us. Our day of coordinator Kim was so great! She made all of our visions come to life and made the entire process stress free

    Absolutely Perfect

Wow! There aren’t even words to express how happy we are with the Margate. The venue is absolutely stunning! We got married 10/10/2020 and as you can imagine, planning a wedding during the pandemic was not a lot of fun. The Margate, and most especially, our amazing coordinator Ashton really helped to make the whole process smooth and easy. Ashton was with us every step of the way, she checked in often and helped with any questions we had (and we had a lot lol). It was so nice knowing that we didn’t have to worry about anything because she would take care of things before they even became an issue. The entire day was absolutely perfect and so many people have told us how much they loved our wedding! We might be a little biased but we think it was the best wedding ever and we can’t thank Ashton and the Margate enough!!

    Amazing Venue

The staff at the Margate were super flexible. We had to reschedule our original date due to Covid and they were amazing with the whole process. The venue itself is gorgeous and you can't go wrong. We ended up having our ceremony outside on the pavilion and our reception in tent, followed by a fire on the beach. It was everything I could have ever wanted. The pictures you are able to get from this venue are truly amazing.

    Above & Beyond!

My husband & I got married this past weekend, 8/15/2020.
We have been planning this day for almost two years. Our wedding coordinator was Caroline Snyder. It was very difficult to plan things due to this being a destination wedding and also COVID times. Let me just say, Caroline and everyone at The Margate went above and beyond for us during our whole wedding weekend! Caroline was in constant communication with me prior to the wedding to get every detail just right..none too big or too small. I sent her a list of my decor for the wedding and pictures, and I was in shock when I saw the tent and everything set up. IT WAS PERFECT. She was also right on top of managing the vendors, and knowing exactly what my husband and I needed throughout the night. We couldn't have asked for a better experience and we would definitely recommend The Margate to anyone. Beautiful venue and even more of a beautiful experience! 5 stars.

    Our Happy Place

We are anchored at the Margate sandbar each weekend in the summer so it made perfect sense to have our special day there. Our coordinator was Ashton and she was so fun, down to earth and simply awesome! We had a fun-filled weekend of festivities. Started off with a bonfire, pizza, s’mores and kegs on the beach for our Friday night welcome party. Bonus fireworks display was absolutely incredible. Saturday ceremony right at the waters edge in the tent with the reception following in the Mariah room. Saturday night after party in Blackstones Saloon which was so much fun. They let us decorate early that day and we had the room until 1 am. Ended the weekend with Sunday breakfast in Blackstones to say bye to everyone and thank you. We couldn’t have asked for anything better. They accommodated every request we had, pizza and kegs on the beach, champagne as you walked into the ceremony tent, and everything else we wanted. Ashton worked hard to make sure every last detail was what we envisioned. The views were amazing and made for some pretty awesome pictures. We had a few hiccups with email/IT issues but Ashton gave us her personal email and cell number to put us at ease so we could reach her at all times. The weekend was better than we dreamed it would be.

Beautiful Dream Wedding at the Margate

We had the most incredible wedding at The Margate. From start to finish and the fireworks in between, our experience was wonderful. Our family and friends enjoyed the resort experience on the lake and the location and beautiful surroundings were literally perfect. The wedding of our dreams. Ashton was very quick to respond to all our questions and the changes that were made up until the big day. I would highly recommend getting married here!

    Nothing Short of Amazing!

When my husband and I were looking for a venue we found The Margate on WeddingWire...we booked a tour and needless to say we cancelled all other tours of other venues. It was perfect and we knew that at first glance. There is so much at The Margate to make your day even more perfect! Lake view rooms, sunset view, campfires, fireworks, pool parties, etc. our wedding was nothing short of amazing!!!

Onto our wedding coordinator...Ashton. Ashton was so much more than a wedding coordinator but also a friend. Ashton quickly became someone we could ask any question to and she’d have an answer. Ashton was amazing! On our wedding day she checked in just enough and was on top of making sure everything was exactly how we wanted. I could never thank her enough for all that she did for our wedding! I hope our paths cross again someday!

When looking for wedding venues, the Margate came across my radar, and I was originally hesitant, because so many places were advertising that mine would be the only wedding that day, and the Margate did not. At the last minute, I scheduled a visit. My sister and I visited in March – it was wintry and miserable, but I fell in love with the Lakeside Pavilion ceremony site, and I knew that the sunset over the bay from the windows in the Mariah Room would be stunning. I took the assurance that, “We can do up to three weddings a day, but we’ve got it down to a science. You’ll never know.” with a grain of salt – they were selling me, after all. I got back to my sister’s place and talked with my mother who reminded me that a good friend had gone to a wedding there. I reached out to hear, and unbidden, she responded: “It was beautiful They also have it down to a science, but with class – I think there were three weddings and I didn’t know!” That sealed the deal, and we are ecstatic that we chose the Margate.
Working with the Staff at the Margate was a dream. Every time we reached out with questions, we got the answers we needed. Every staff member we communicated with was professional and courteous. There was a laidback energy that made me feel confident and comfortable in my planning. We never felt that we were being harangued, but at the same time we knew that everything that needed to get done would.
The day of the rehearsal and the day of the wedding were so easy for us. Everything went off without a hitch, and when I forgot to bring the table name signs, it was never even a problem. Once they knew that they needed to be made, I didn’t have to think of it again.
Our guests could not stop raving about the entire day – the beautiful ceremony looking out over the water, the wonderful venue. People often talk about how stressful wedding planning can be. With my experience at the Margate, that was never my experience.

We had our wedding at the Margate this past July. It was a day that I will never forget, and yes, I know that is cliche, but it’s the truth. From when we booked the venue, to saying goodbye the next morning after the wedding, our wedding coordinator, Caroline, made everything possible. She went above and beyond and was always there when I needed to ask a question or to even just feel better about things. To my husband and I, our wedding day just flowed. Caroline did everything to make sure that we didn’t worry about anything.

We have been told that our wedding was over the top, and absolutely beautiful. I don’t think that would of been possible if it wasn’t for the Margate and how hard they worked from beginning to end and how much Caroline put her heart and soul into what she does. It was overall amazing. I wish I could go into more details, but still looking back at the day, I’m speechless. Without the Margate and Caroline, our wedding wouldn’t have been our dream come true! Thank you Margate and mostly, thank you to Caroline; you are truly amazing and we appreciate all you have done for us!

The Margate helped my dream wedding come true. I always wanted a beachside wedding and also wanted to incorporate Lake Winnipesaukee (special place in my heart) and the Margate made that happen. We had our ceremony on the pavilion, which juts out over the water, and the reception was on the West Lawn right next to it. Beth was very responsive and accommodating - helping make sure we had considered every detail and being flexible to help make sure everything was just as we had envisioned it. The day of was stress-free; everything was taken care of. Beth checked on me a few times and it was such a joy to see everything come together - the colors, decorations, etc. I would recommend this to anyone for sure. Additionally, since it's like a resort, there's lots of spaces to have extra events for the wedding. We had our friends play a concert in the Blackstone Lounge the night before and we did a campfire with s'mores after the reception. There is also a beach bar and a pool and another indoor bar that you can rent out. Our guests loved it and we heard lots say that they wanted to come back again!

Only things to be aware of are 1) they have up to 3 weddings a day at the site. It didn't end up being an issue, but it does make it a little more crowded if you want it to feel super intimate, and 2) there were a few things that we had to take care of which was a little weird, like we needed to provide our own linens for the high-top cocktail hour tables but not the dinner tables.

We got married October 15th in the Grand Ballroom. The ceremony was in the Lakeside Pavillon. We couldn't have asked for a better venue. I wanted naturally beautiful back drop and the Margate delivered. We had the lounge Friday night for pre wedding festivities with karaoke and a beachfire. The guests loved it and saw it as an opportunity for a weekend getaway. Caroline was our coordinator and was amazing. She answered all my emails, which were many, and made sure all the details were taken care of. It was stress free and went off without any issues. I was nervous on how the ballroom would look but once we had the uplighting and tables set it exceeding my expectations. We had Hart's Turkey Farm cater which was economical and delicious. One tip is to make sure your guests book early as they do up to 3 weddings at a time and can book up fast. Highly recommend!!!

I got married at The Margate in September of this year! I fell in love with the place while I was looking for venues two years prior. Beyond the beautiful views, reasonable rates, they offer amazing amenities! I was able to have a private pool party the night before my wedding for be guest that stayed the night before. Then I had a bon fire after my reception which ended at 8pm. I would not have changed my location for anything! Bethany was my coordinator and I can not say enough good things about her. She truley made my day stress free and was there for me the day I booked my venue until the day I said I do!! Thank you Margate for the most rememberable day!!

Our wedding was September 17th, 2016 at The Margate and it was absolutely amazing! I can definitely say that my Wedding Day was, thus far, one of the best days of my life! The Margate was a great location for our reception because of the large Ballroom that accommodated all of our guests, the option for a campfire after hours of dancing, and the option for guests to stay right on the property on the night of our Wedding. Caroline Snyder was a great Wedding Coordinator and was very responsive to all of my questions (email, phone, and in person) and helped ensure that the day went as smoothly as possible!

    Pluses:
-Ballroom was available on Thursday for our Saturday Wedding and this made our set-up incredibly smooth and relaxed
-Caroline's flexibility and responsiveness to all of my questions, worries, etc.
-The large Ballroom to accommodate all of our guests and the option to stay in the Ballroom until midnight (whereas, in the Mariah Room, weddings have to end at 10 PM because of the guest rooms surrounding the reception room)
-The campfire after our reception with s'mores and pizza (we set-up the s'mores and ordered the pizza)
-The option for guests to stay right on the property
-Caroline's recommendations for vendors (all of our vendors were amazing!)

    Cons:
-There were 3 weddings at The Margate on 9.17 so parking was tight, otherwise, I didn't even notice there were 3 weddings going on simultaneously!

Our wedding day was perfect, and I would recommend this venue to anyone looking for an affordable venue with the beauty of other top-notch locations. We planned our wedding in 5 months with Caroline, who was very responsive to e-mails, telephone calls, and inquiries. She provided numerous recommendations as far as vendors went and even went as far as putting us in touch with a new stylist when the previous one was unreliable. Her patience and willingness to go through all of the details from start to finish of the wedding made for a smooth wedding day during a busy July 4th weekend. The resort was big enough to accommodate all of our wedding guests overnight, and even provided amenities like a private pool party and private campfire into the evening. This made for an incredible evening from ceremony to reception to after party. I highly recommend this venue and recommend speaking with Caroline Snyder. Her patience and calmness on our wedding day calmed any sort of hidden jitters and made for a magical day!

Im writing this several months later. But I just had to give an amazing review since my husband & I had an AMAZING wedding at the Margate Resort on August 29, 2015 ..

It was the perfect setting for a lakeside wedding. Our coordinator Caroline was a big help through all the planning and the day of the wedding she certainly made sure everything ran smoothly. Caroline (was ALWAYS available and made planning our wedding an absolute breeze! She answered every email in a timely manner & always offered suggestions. She became like a best friend to me.

The day of the wedding Caroline kept everyone in line and on time so our ceremony & reception went off without a hitch!

The location itself is absolutely beautiful which makes for a beautiful lakeside wedding.

The Mariah Room (where we had our reception) was absolutely stunning and had it's own private bar. We also had a private bonfire after the reception and had a blast enjoying the lake and fire! The Margate is very Family Friendly which is also one of the reasons we chose this venue.

If I could give Caroline 10 Stars or more I would. We Absolutley love her ??????

The Margate is an amazing venue. Having the lake as your back drop for the big day was perfect and breathtaking. It's convenient to have everything all in one spot, no need to worry about transporting guests to and from. Hart's Turkey Farm was our caterer which was delicious as always.
The Margate staff were attentive and paid attention to detail. They provided us with suggestions for vendors we may have needed that were local. We used DJ Carlos Russin, who was outstanding!!
Overall my husband and I, as well as guests and family, were extremely satified with everything. I would highly recommend using The Margate as your wedding venue.

We had our ceremony on the private beach and our reception in the pavilion, which could not have been more perfect for our small intimate wedding. The view was stunning and the fireworks were amazing. Our guests are still talking about how beautiful the venue was. Caroline was very accommodating and a pleasure to work with from the beginning of my planning until my wedding day.

This Place was GREAT! We looked at a total of 7 venue's and The Margate was by far the most beautiful AND the least expensive. The Hotel was clean, the Staff was friendly and accommodating, the beach bar was a HUGE hit with my family and guests that needed a place to hang out while we were rehearsing. The most impressive thing about this whole experience was Beth, who was our wedding coordinator. She was amazing!! She had the wedding choreographed down to a SCIENCE! I cant say enough about her. She was truley dedicated to making sure our wedding day was perfect, and looking back, it was. I highly recommend this place

We had the best experience at the Margate for our wedding. My family was coming in from all over the country and this place had all 3 things we needed and reasonably priced. We chose to do our rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception along with having everyone able to stay at one location. Everything we needed and asked for was only a request away. It rained on our wedding day(good luck) and we had to cancel our bonfire. Our wedding coordinator, Beth, didn't even blink an eye, had a plan all worked out so that we could continue on enjoying our evening and keep partying. If anything did go wrong we didn't notice because Beth had everything under control. For a reception of 90-100 this place had the best of everything, great views, great staff, great location, and more.

Loved it here. So amazing!! There aren't words to describe it!! Our coordinated Caroline was the best. So on top of everything. Was amazing & kind. She handled unruelly groomsmen well, helped with a tantrum throwing 3 yo ring bearer, an elderly nana who needed to change her walk in path last minute. Checked in on our babysitting room for. Helped us order pizza. Kept the temperature in our reception comfortable, though all the sun kept warming it up. Handled our vendors ans everything amazingly. Our ceremony was in the breathtaking pavilion. Our reception in the gorgeous Mariah room. We then had a private bon fire & late night pizza & pool party. The view is beautiful. The site family friendly & party friendly along with romantic. Couldn't recomend it more!

My husband and I were looking for a "destination" wedding without the travel involved! We stumbled upon The Margate and we knew this is exactly what we wanted! A casual, but still elegant venue to host our flip flop wedding! We got married right on the beach! Had our reception in the tent that sits directly on the water! Ended our wedding with a fireworks display and had an after party bon fire with pizza right on the beach! Our wedding coordinator Laurie was SUPERB! Start to finish she followed through, was most helpful and professional! An absolute gem! But don't want to leave out Aimee Jones who may be the Sales Manager but nothing salesy about her! She provided all the info we needed and helped see our wedding through! In addition, the food was provided by Curt's Caterers and was so yumm! Our guests were happy it was a buffet and that they could go up for seconds! But what stands out above all was the outstanding efforts by the staff in response to a very unexpected MONSOON that took us all by surprise! The staff ran around DRENCHED mind you securing the tent and keeping all calm! A MAGNIFICENT JOB, to all at The Margate! Our guests of about 135 from 13 being the youngest to nearly 84 years old said it was THE BEST wedding they had ever been to! Best compliment ever! My husband and I and our family n friends can't wait to return to celebrate our 1 year anniversary! :)

My husband and I got married at the Margate on Oct 12, 2013. I don’t know anyone that can say their wedding was perfect – because something inevitably goes awry. But I can. Our wedding weekend was perfect -- it was everything we wanted and more. This was due in large part to our wedding planner Nicole. We would heartily recommend Nicole and the Margate to anyone who asks. Nicole is exceptional at her job and it was a true pleasure to work with her. She went above and beyond the call of duty at every turn.

In addition, my husband and I could not have been more pleased with how well our guests were taken care of by the entire Margate staff – we heard nothing but raves from everyone in attendance.

I had an absolute amazing and beautiful wedding ceremony in the Lakeside Pavilion at the Margate Resort! My reception was held in the Grand Ballroom which worked well for the number of guests we were expecting and the big dance floor we wanted! Working with my wedding coordinator Laurie Grubbs made the whole wedding planning process less stressful and complete! Laurie always answered all of my e-mails and messages quickly and promptly with detailed information to put my mind at ease. Laurie was always willing to go above and beyond to help me with my wedding and all of the extras that I wanted to include for the ceremony and reception. I was honestly amazed and tearful when I was walking into my ceremony and the reception how Laurie and my mother were able to bring my wedding dreams to light without any of my help in the decorating. The Margate was an easy decision for me because I was able to have my "beach" themed wedding, ceremony and reception all in one location, and the assistance of an amazing wedding coordinator! I would highly recommend the Margate for future weddings!

If you choose The Margate for your wedding, and you have Laurie Grubbs as a coordinator, sit back, relax, and don't worry about a thing. She was absolutely amazing!! From minor details to the big day, she was there to answer any and all questions I had. They have the best caterer for function dinners as well. The food for my wedding was out of this world.
Everything was spectacular. Highly recommend The Margate for you future wedding!!!!!!!!

The Margate was amazing! The venue speaks for itself when you see it. The lake is beautiful and the pavillion where the ceremony takes place is just perfect. I chose to have a tented reception on the lawn and I feel its the only way to do your wedding on the lake! The Margate offers many extras for after your reception or even the night before. We chose to have karaoke in the lounge the night before the wedding and a pool party after the reception. We also chose to have fireworks towards the end of our reception. I have seen many many fireworks displays in my lifetime but this one tops them all! We were nervous as to what we would get for the money but it was well worth it! I worked with Nicole and Aimee and they were both great. I sent many emails over my planning process and both were very responsive. I had some ideas that they had never done before but worked with my vision to help make my day a success. Nicole was there for my family and I all day during the wedding. She was everywhere! In terms of the hotel rooms they tend to vary in size depending on which building you choose and what bed option you choose. You are barely in your room but I would suggest viewing a few rooms before making your selections.

My Husband and I recently had our wedding reception at The Margate Resort. We had close to 200 guests which fit comfortably into their huge ballroom. (we would have also loved try their outdoor pavillion, but were too stubborn about keeping our date in March).

While I considered myself to be a fairly low-key bride, I had many unusual requests which the Margate staff was quick to accomodate. I was always allowed access to the facility so long as another event was not in progress.

Another awesome feature that the Margate offers is an after hours pool party (private for your guests and no additional charge), with bar service and the opportunity to bring in your own late night snacks. We had approx. 60 guests in the pool/hot tub area until 1am.

Overall, the food was great, the service was excellent, the venue was affordable, and the whole night was amazing. Many of our guests have said..."Best Party Ever" which only makes us happier that we chose the Margate for our special day.

We could not have been more delighted with our experience holding our wedding at The Margate. From start to finish, the staff did an amazing job ensuring that our day was special, unique, and exactly what we wanted. We held our rehearsal dinner in Blackstone's restaurant and reception in a tent on the West lawn with a beautiful sunset over the lake. Curt's Caterers, arranged through the Margate, did the food, and everything was delicious. We recommend this location highly and without reservation.

The Margate was wonderful venue for my wedding. They were very accommodating and I did not hear a single bad thing about any of the staff. Lisa, Laurie, and another girl (I wish I could remember her name, but she was from Romania) were fantastic to work with. From the view to the food to the staff and everything between, The Margate was amazing!

The renovated reception area is incredible. It made for a stunning ceremony and the grounds provided great picture opportunities. Lisa, the coordinator is easy to work with and very responsive to emails. They let myself and a few family members decorate the Mariah room early Friday afternoon so we could have everything already set up for a relaxing wedding morning.

We did hit a major snafu during the reception. It was incredibly hot and the air conditioner was broken. The Mariah room was about 90 degrees at the start of my reception. Many of my guests left and spent time outside because of the heat. Lisa and Laurie found fans for us to use and eventually the air conditioner did get fixed. However, the situation was still unacceptable, so we were provided open bar on the house for the evening.

I would highly recommend the Margate for weddings, as the ceremony area and grounds are absolutely beautiful - and the after hours pool party kicks ass!

I currently live in KY. I was able to plan my wedding 1000 miles away with Laura Grubbs and Lisa Pettengill over the phone and through e-mail. Laura and Lisa were great to work with and made my wedding day simply perfect for us and our guests. The Margate is absolutely beautiful and I'm so happy I had my wedding there! We didn't run into any problems and the staff members were excellent.

I got married at The Margate on 10/11/15 and we worked with Beth. The wedding was absolutely stunning and I could not be more happy with how everything turned out!! This was a perfect venue for us because we had the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception all onsite, which was convenient and exactly what we were looking for. Beth was very helpful throughout the entire planning process and stepped in to help whenever we needed it. We had a handful of guests who had trouble booking a room in our room block (front desk mistakes) and she was able to help figure out and resolve the confusion with the employees. The front desk staff is the biggest place for improvement in terms of knowledge and professionalism. On a separate note the only down side is that check-in isn't until 3pm, but our ceremony started at 3:30pm which was very tight. You can pay extra for early check-in or call the day of and the front desk will call you as soon as the room is ready. 3pm is the latest check-in time I have ever heard and this is really my only complaint so for any guests who are arriving the day of the event, just plan ahead. Beth did make this clear from the beginning though :) ! I highly recommend this venue and am so glad I had such a positive wedding day experience here!

We had our wedding weekend at the Margate a few weeks ago! It was perfect! This venue was the first place we looked at and the others did not compare!! We had our rehearsal dinner in the Blackstone Lounge then were able to privately open it up for guests since we are from out of state. The ceremony location was breathtaking as well as our reception on the West Lawn. Caroline was very helpful and accommodating throughout the planning! She helped to make it easy to plan most of the wedding from out of state. We were able to spend a whole weekend celebrating with family and friends in the greatest setting. The rooms, food and service was great! We highly recommend this location for your perfect outdoor wedding!!

My wedding planner and coordinators Laurie and Nicoleta were AMAZING! They were so on top of things and had answers to all of my annoying questions, I felt as though I had nothing to worry about! The Lakeside Pavilion where our ceremony took place was perfect and serene. Our reception-which took place in the Mariah Room- went off without a hitch. The Mariah room has floor to ceiling windows, a fireplace and a built in marble bar, it's a beautiful spot to have all your family and friends. My guest room was on the lake and was a convenient walk to the tiki bar, which some of our guests visited after the reception during our lakeside bonfire. It really was the perfect day and very reasonable pricing for the location. I highly recommend the Margate for any special event, fantastic!

I had an AMAZING wedding at the Margate Resort. It was the perfect setting for a lakeside wedding. The coordinator Lisa was a big help through all the planning and the day of the wedding she certainly made sure everything ran smoothly. I never felt stressed! Even when it rained during what was supposed to be our bon fire, they opened up the indoor bar for our 100+ guests that had come from out of state. It was a gorgeous setting, and all the guests haven't stopped raving about how beautiful everything was! I highly recommend the Margate!

My husband and I got married say The Margate at the beginning of June. Our experience in the beginning was a little rocky as we were working a coordinator there that I was getting frustrated with. She no longer works there. Caroline contacted me to say she was our new contact person. I can't say enough wonderful things about her!!!! She was fantastic. She responds to emails right away, she's is super sweet and very accommodating! We were married outside on the pavilion and our reception was under the tent on the lawn. Wonderful views, people kept commenting on how beautiful the scenery was! The only thing I would say is that the rooms do need a little updating (but they aren't terrible) BUT their outlets and electrical in their rooms need some major work. The plugs are too big and all of our stuff for getting ready was falling out of the walls. The ones that did fit, had no electricity and did not work!! That was very frustrating. Other than that, our day was perfect and The Margate and Caroline did a lovely job of making that happen!

Excellent wedding coordinator - Lisa. Can't say enough great things about her. Prompt, organized, knowledgeable, easy-going, and works very hard for you. Also has a great support staff that are willing to help you with whatever you need.

Food (buffet) was great (Apple/Herb stuffed chicken and BBQ steak tips). Some guests even went up for seconds and commented on how great it was. The cost for food and beverage was also pretty reasonable, considering the prime lake-on location.

Reception service was also great - only complaint is that we had wine for the tables that was inconsistently replenished. Some tables had plenty, others did not get enough. Make sure that guests know to ask when they need/want more wine or it may not come.

Overall resort is pretty awesome. TONS of activities/amenities for couples or families: awesome beach bar on the water, kayaking, lake swimming & indoor pool, lounge chairs by the little strip of beach with excellent access to the water, and a solid continental breakfast included in your stay. Only complaint about the place is that the guest rooms were very expensive and their interiors were not as nice as the cost would have suggested. What you are really paying for is the entire resort itself.

Overall, would definitely recommend the Margate to any bride & groom wanting a great party on the water with a gorgeous view.

My husband and I just got married at the Margate in July 2011, we loved it. We really wanted the "beach" type wedding and both LOVE lake Winnipesaukee so decided this was the place for us! Little did we know our worst fear was going to happen ... RAIN!! But even with the rain, having our vows done outside in the drizzle/mist and our tented reception on the West lawn in the down pours, it was fabulous! Everyone who went just loved everything about it :) I could nit pick about a few little details, but over all everything from the rehearsal dinner the night before to the end of the wedding was wonderful :)

My husband and I were married at the Margate Resort two weeks ago and it was absolutely perfect in every way! We had the ceremony at the Pavilion and our reception in the Mariah Room. We actually started with Beth as our day-of-coordinator but she left the Margate last November. Even though we were a little hesitant to be switched to Shelbie at what seemed like the last minute, she blew us away with her professionalism, organization, and hard work. The venue itself is gorgeous and needs very little decorations to make it a magical wedding. It was a little nerve-wracking that the Margate can potentially have up to three weddings on any given day, which effects the ceremony time. However, every detail worked out in our favor and our guests are STILL talking about our wedding!

My husband and I held our wedding at the Margate, and we are so pleased we did! Our ceremony was held in the Pavilion, and our reception was in the Mariah Room. The views during both our ceremony and reception were beautiful, and the grounds made for some beautiful photo ops. What made the Margate such a great choice was that (1) all of our guests could stay on site and (2) it had so many options to keep people entertained the entire weekend. Friday night, guests were welcomed with a get together at the Beach Bar, and Saturday night, after our reception, everyone stopped back into their rooms to change into comfy clothes, and then headed to a bonfire on the beach to keep the party going. Shelbie was our coordinator, and I LOVED working with her. She was very attentive and professional, but her clam demeanor really helped me stay relaxed throughout the planning process and during the wedding itself. All in all, the Margate is a fantastic wedding venue choice!

What a great wedding we had at The Margate! Our wedding coordinator Carolyn Snyder was the best she took care of everything that I didn't have time for. I had so many guest come up and tell me and my husband that our wedding was the best wedding they had ever been to. The ceremony site was amazing and the outdoor tent was perfect. It has been almost two months since our amazing wedding at the Margate and we still can't think about it without beaming about our experience. We had the pleasure of having an outdoor ceremony and both the ceremony tent and reception tent were extraordinary! I will admit that there was a lot of anxiety after the summer we had as to how hot or rainy August 17th could be for our wedding weekend but everything was glorious, including the weather. We can not thank Laurie Grubbs and her staff enough for paying attention to every detail and helping us to create our vision of a "romantic, elegant, rustic, wedding!" We worked collaboratively to make this a wedding weekend celebration for all of our guest as most would be staying at the Margate for the weekend. Laurie was with us every step of the way!!! You know you make a great team when as the bride your wedding Consultant and her staff are crying along with you as you walk to your grand entrance into the ceremony. Our guest are already asking us to plan some type of a reunion for next year they enjoyed their experience so much....

The Margate wedding staff was great! They handled everything in a professional manner that put me at ease. The rooms for guests are a bit expensive but everything related to the ceremony and reception were a great deal.

The Margate was a very nice place to have my wedding ceremony and reception. It is a quaint small hotel that is nestled onto it's own beach of the Pagus Bay lake Winnipasaukee. I loved the fact that the hotel was so flexible to allow all of my guests to stay at the normal room rates, they did not hike up prices or require a minimum stay for the prime foliage weekend I had my wedding during. The planners are helpful and nice, they allow you to choose every aspect of your wedding yourself without having to adhere to some prearranged vendors or package. They did a really nice job at executing the entire wedding, and exceeded my expectations of the flow and appearence of my events. They were very accomodating to my needs as well as the needs of my guests! No regrets if I got married again I would definatly still have it at the Margate! Some words of advice, because the Margate allows you to pick and choose the different aspects of your wedding the Bride & Groom must themselves be very organized and communicate your desires to hotel Sales staff (planners). I highly reccomend this place for a bride looking for the perfect Autum wedding (foliage is near peak 1st weekend in October) (peak 2nd weekend in October).

Beautiful location for a lake ceremony

Ashton was our Margate wedding coordinator. She did a wonderful job keeping our day on track and was very accomodating. I had several family members complain about the quality of their lakeside rooms they paid top dollar for, but the bridal suite was spacious and comfortable. Our ceremony was on one of their small beaches next to the pavilion (we wanted feet in the sand) and our reception was in the Mariah room. Both locations were nice and we lucked out with the weather. We also had a bonfire after the reception. Our guests really enjoyed the bonfire as we provided smore kits as one of our favors.

We decided to go with The Margate for the ceremony location, and the beautiful hall, The Mariah room. Our wedding coordinator in the beginning wasn't very polite, causing us more problems than anything. About 9 months into our planning, our wedding coordinator called to ask if we would switch our wedding date due to NASCAR weekend changing their date. That was not happening! However, a few months after that we were assigned to Caroline as our previous coordinator had left. Our very first meeting with Caroline completely surprised me. Even offering to do things the previous coordinator had not. Getting a hold of any of the coordinators if you are not relevantly close to your wedding date is tough. Looking back, I completely understand why I wasn't seen as "important" as my date at the time was nowhere near close. The few weeks before the wedding, I had no problem with contacting Caroline at all.

There were a few cons about our wedding venue.
1- I felt rushed on my wedding day. I felt as though the minute we were done something, the next task was being shoved into our faces. I felt as though at times I barely had a chance to breathe.
2- Having spent a lot of money on the wedding itself, we felt as though we should have had our bridal suite for free the night of the wedding, or at a discount. Many other venues offer this to their brides.
3-We chose to do the after party- pool party. The bar was open, however open to the public. We had guests from the other wedding trying to steal our pizza. This was very inconvenient, and Caroline was nowhere to be found when this was happening. My mother felt as though she couldn't enjoy herself because she was on watch for those trying to crash our after party.

The wedding itself was beautiful, our guests truly enjoyed their time, many spending the weekend with us, and I do not regret my choice.

The Margate's Pavilion tent was the ideal location for my ceremony and reception. It was right on the water, reasonably priced the wedding coordinator Laurie was very helpful. She really came alive on my wedding day, making sure everyone and everything was where it needed to be. What a relief to a bride who makes a spreadsheet for everything! The staff was kind enough to bring in a couple of space heaters as the weather turned a bit cold, which made the guests very happy and us all very cozy! Curt's Caterers was also a pleasure to work with - in particular, the cake they made for us with very little direction was stunning! Thank you to all for making this event so special for us!

    A Dream Wedding Destination

The Margate was a dream destination for our wedding! It's so great how everything is right there so you don't have to leave the property. We used the dining room for our rehearsal dinner, we had a bonfire on the beach for our welcome event, had the ceremony in the pavilion, reception in the tent on the lawn, and the after party in the pool. Our coordinator was Caroline and she was wonderful to work with! Most of the time she was super prompt with her responses but occasionally I was waiting a few weeks. I think because they were down a coordinator she was extremely busy so this was very understandable. She still made sure all of my questions were answered and was crucial in making the wedding day run without a hitch! If you book with them, the room they initially show as the "bridal suite" is dark and not very attractive. Instead we booked the larger room in the Lakefront Building and that was perfect. You get a beautiful view of the lake in the background. The Margate is truly a stunning location with lots of great spots for photos with your new spouse and for your guests. We also did the fireworks at the end of the night and that was quite a highlight!

Cons and reasons I'm giving them 4 stars and not 5. Their booking system is a bit outdated. They give you an online option but it's not as easy with the blocks as the big chain hotels. I think I was on the phone with the booking at least 3-4 times where I let them know I still had never received a confirmation email with my booking and every time they said they would send it I never got it until finally about 1 month before the wedding. Most of my guests also never got a confirmation email. Check-in isn't until 4pm but the ceremony was set at 3:30pm and early check-in is not guaranteed even if you pay. Luckily most of our guests were there the day before otherwise this would've been an issue. I will also say I do not recommend buying any alcohol through them. We bought cases of wine through them. Industry standard is 200-300% and their markup was 400-450% and you can't return what isn't opened since they buy from a warehouse. They also usually have more than one wedding. Most of the time I didn't notice except during our toasts. While my dad and sister were giving their speeches the other ceremony was happening in the pavilion and half the time I couldn't really hear what the person was saying over the music/sounds from the other wedding. Similarly I felt bad for them and hoped the sounds from our reception didn't overpower their ceremony.

Despite these factors I still had my absolute dream wedding at the Margate and would still highly recommend it as a venue!

Our experience was overall very good. They do a lot of weddings so they're well prepared. It was nice to have a venue where guests could stay, you could do the rehearsal, the ceremony, and the reception. Our day of coordinator was very helpful and almost acted as a wedding planner and helped us through a lot of the process. The venue itself is beautiful and our guests loved it. Compared to other similar venues in the area, the pricing for the ceremony and reception was very reasonable. There aren't a ton of places to go afterwards in the area if you're looking to keep the party going, but there are a lot of ways you can customize your after party like fireworks shows, a camp fire on the beach, or renting out the pool/bar area.

Just a couple of minor drawbacks. They only offer consumption bar alcohol which they estimate at $15 per hour per person. If you're planning on open bar, 100 people and a 5 hour reception puts you between $7500-9000. If you're doing cash bar. they don't accept cards and the closest ATM is across the street. They only have 4 food caterers they work with and you cannot use anyone but those 4. They usually do 3 weddings per day which can make things pretty congested. We ended up in a standoff with other wedding groups who were trying to get pictures in the best spots.

At the end of the day we had a great experience, guests had a great time, and it was everything we hoped it would be.

Our wedding day was an absolute dream come true. We did a church wedding following by a lakeside tented reception for 200 people at the Margate Resort. During the planning process I was living in southern Texas and due to the professional staff everything was planned with ease and perfection. The tent was set up so beautifully and the view was breathtaking! We did the fireworks and the bonfire towards the end of the evening and both were way more impressive than anything we had expected! Words just can't describe. I also must add that we found our DJ from the Margate's preferred vendor list and we could not have been happier with him. The Margate definitely has good taste when it comes to the vendors they like to work with.

That being said, there is a big reason why I am only giving a 4 out of 5 for my review. I am extremely disappointed that the Margate will only work with Curt's Catering when it comes to catering. During my initial menu selection the staff at Curt's seemed very put off by my questions and requests for sampling. At one meeting I had asked to try a couple different appetizers before making my final decision and when we arrived they only laid out 3 of the 6 apps I wanted to try, the others were apps we weren't even considering. During each interaction with Curt's the staff seemed bothered by us and made us feel completely unwelcome. Putting all that aside I was confident they would meet out needs for the wedding and when it came to their service I was sadly wrong. The cocktail hour and apps went well and everything was delicious. Once all my quests were seated it took FOREVER for them to be served their meals. At one point I was seeing servers (who in my opinion were not professionally dressed) exiting the catering tent carrying only 1 or 2 plates at a time. NOT ACCEPTABLE!!! Tables were served 1 or 2 plates and then had to wait 5-10 more minutes for the rest of the table to be served so they could all eat. NOT OK!

    Great Venue

We got everything we hoped for at this venue! The grounds are beautiful, the caterer Harts Catering, was wonderful, and our coordinator Nicoletta was attentive and helped direct our wedding party very well. The downside was in the details. If you go with this venue, you may want to appoint someone to keep their finger on the pulse of things.

The feedback I have is that it was always “days” to reply to an email. And in the beginning that didn’t bother me but as the wedding day approached I had to call and even then the voice mail asking a question wasn’t returned in time for me to have an answer for guests. We had one last rehearsal the morning of the wedding at 1030 and no one came to open the room until we sought someone out. The rooms are a bit outdated, but beds were super comfy! The Friday night bonfire we paid for was “forgotten?” And we had to chase people down to get it going. Some of my guests had difficulties with their room not being as requested/promised…. Although room changes were accommodated I believe. The reception room was locked when we were not there but my brother in laws speaker disappeared overnight.

On the positive, security was prompt and responsive when strange drunk men were found in our room! And anything we requested was accommodated.

They were very good until the day of, then everything fell apart. The groom wasn’t told when to go out to the ceremony site his mom had to go get him, then afterwards they told us we would be in this room and we would have drinks and hors d’oeuvres before the reception, no one came with either and we were just waiting there for 20 minutes finally we decided to go up to the reception by ourselves. It would have been better if they had more of a schedule that they followed.

    Beautiful venue

I had been eyeing the margate for years before i even got engaged so when my fiance also fell in love when we looked we knew it was perfect. We had a lawn reception and the view is just unbelievable! The pavillion where the ceremonies are help is gorgeous also. Our experience was up and down though, it doesn't seem that the coordinators are long term employees. Our coordinator was helpful, but didnt always seem to have a solution to issues that came up. The day of my wedding she helped with set up and then i didnt see her again until 5 minutes before i walked down. I had no idea where we were to go or meet her etc untill then which stressed me out! The night ran smooth, our bartender was amazing! We were told the staff would handle clean up and make sure our items were packed up for us to pick up the next morning. Well, turns out quite a few of our items went missing, including my cake cutting set that was given as a gift. No one at the margate can locate my items nor has any idea where they could have ended up.. this has left a bad taste in my mouth even though our wedding was everything we wanted.

I got married here last month. We started with one planner who during the middle of my wedding planning stopped working there for one reason or another. We weren't made aware of this until a month of no returned phone calls or e-mails from anyone. Finally we were told we were assigned to a new planner. The new planner was attentive, accommodating, and kind. If we had questions, she had answers. Our planner was there from sunrise to after sunset that night checking in with us and making sure everything was what we wanted. We had a tented reception outside, and I wouldn't have changed it for anything (even though it poured). The tent kept most of the rain out, and the new drainage system that was installed did a phenomenal job at making sure the grass underneath the tent wasn't wet. Our bonfire that was planned for after the reception was cancelled understandably due to the rain. However, The Margate's tiki bar stayed open just for us until last call. I would give everything that had to do with the WEDDING itself a 4 out of 5 stars.

Now onto the hotel part of it. Five couples from our wedding, that I know of, had to change rooms. There were problems all over the place. One room was flooded, one room had an empty bag of chips in between the fitted sheet and the mattress, one's room AC wasn't working...I could go on and on. We had over 40 rooms booked for our wedding, and the fact that so many people had issues with their rooms was terrifying to my husband and I. When people are paying $179 for a hotel room EACH NIGHT, there should not be any issues. This really made my husband and I upset and caused us a little bit of stress on our wedding day. If I had to give the hotel part of the resort a rating I would give it a 1 out of 5 stars.

I'd say if you are going to a wedding there, maybe check out a different hotel in the area. If you are looking to having a wedding there, go for it! You won't regret it. But maybe add a room block at a different hotel as well.

Our son recently got married at the Margate. The grounds and location are fantastic! The pavilion tent for the ceremony was perfect, as was the reception tent. The ceremony and reception were held outside for about 200 people. Many of the guests stayed at the Margate. Our wedding coordinator Caroline did a great job the day before and day of the wedding. Unfortunately, I felt she was overworked and did not have enough assistance on the day of the wedding. When you see her running around setting up tables, running back and forth from the room where we stored place cards, pictures, and other wedding items, you know something is wrong. She should have a team of staff members helping her with the set up. The servers and Caroline were awesome during the reception. Suzanne, one of the servers, was also mopping up the dance floor because of the rain. She was great as well. We used Curt’s Catering and they were fantastic, everyone raved about the food. The location is absolutely fabulous!!
Now the negative… MANAGEMENT!!! Or lack of Management – we were there for 4 days and never once did management meet with us to address our concerns or introduce themselves and ask us how things were going. We requested a satellite bar for beer and wine when we booked 10 months earlier. We found out the Monday before the wedding they wouldn’t do it unless we had 300 people. They assured us that 3 bartenders would be plenty – unfortunately only 2 bartenders were on that day. The line for drinks was embarrassing. Some of our guests waited 20-30 mins. That’s exactly what I didn’t want to happen. We voiced our complaints the day after the wedding and not once did management reach out to us to explain or apologize. Another issue we had … we blocked rooms nine months before the wedding and the ceremony was to start at 3:30 but check-in wasn’t until 4. Does that make sense? Some guests were made to pay an “extra fee” to be able to check in early so they could get ready in time

The Margate is a beautiful place to get married, the view is gorgeous and the atmosphere is just what we wanted for our wedding. We did the after hour pool party and that was a blast as well.

As far as the wedding coordinators, they have little to no personality and weren't much help. I had guests commenting that they were actually rude to them.

My husband and I were married on 10/3/15. Our coordinator, Caroline was less than helpful day of. We had made arrangements for the screen/ projector to be moved off of the dance floor at 5:30 for our first dance. Caroline was nowhere to be found and at 6pm several wedding guests had to disassemble the screen/projector so we could dance. Caroline did resurface shortly before my husband and I were introduced, I mentioned that it was well past 5:30 and guests had to take down the projector, she just looked at me and said nothing. No apology.
At the end of the night Caroline approached me regarding whether or not we wanted to save the top tier and any leftover wedding cake. Of course we said yes! My Aunt had spent a week planning, baking and decorating that cake, we wanted to at least have a piece since we only had a bite during the reception. We had planned to freeze some cake and have it on our first anniversary as is the tradition. My aunt and other family members and Caroline were aware of our wishes to save our wedding cake. My husband went to retrieve the cake from the refrigerator only to find that it was not there. We get very conflicting stories about what happened. Caroline claims my Aunt was rude to her and destroyed/discarded our wedding cake, while My Aunt and two other guests in the kitchen at the time say the cake was boxed and placed in the refrigerator as discussed. After speaking with my Aunt, I called Caroline to hear her side. She claimed that my Aunt was extremely rude to her, she “swears to God" that she saw my Aunt throw the cake away and that she seriously wasn’t lying. After speaking with the other two people in the kitchen neither of them witnessed my Aunt destroying or throwing the cake away. This is absolutely unacceptable. If at any point there was an issue with the cake, either my husband, myself or my mom should have been notified immediately as we were all still in the room talking and cleaning.

I recently had my wedding at the Margate on August 21. Beth was our wedding coordinator assigned to us. My husband and I decided to book our wedding at the Margate for the view, the price, and of course, the access to a wedding coordinator. We thought that with all of these things combined, our wedding would be a pleasant, and seamless experience. Unfortunately, that was far from the case. Our first issue we experienced was initially reaching out to their preferred caterers, given to us from Beth upon booking the wedding. At the time, there were 3 options: Curt's Caterers, Hart's Turkey Farm, and The Common Man. Of course, given the Common Man, we assumed there would be no issue on these three options. Shortly after signing our agreement with your facility, we were told the Common Man was no longer available. Curt's and Hart's were both unresponsive (one even stating that we would be their last wedding they would do for the Margate since they no longer liked working with them), so we had to hire a different caterer, paying a fee for this, even though we had no choice. Our wedding coordinator did not tell us until ONE WEEK before my wedding that place settings, silver, glasses were not supplied by them! We also had to rent fans and lighting in the pavilion tent for the evening.

The day of the wedding was completely run by myself, bridal party, and family, as Beth was NOWHERE to be found all day! We had to run around to find her when it was time to be introduced into the tent (Beth was busy with a rehearsal we were told). Are you kidding me?? Waiting over 10 minutes for your coordinator to finally enter the tent is RIDICULOUS! We had no champagne in our glasses for the toast, had to bring out the cake table (with no plates or silverware on the table) to do the cake cutting, still had the stickers on the cake cutting set, and even had to pull the table off the dance floor ourselves.

I really do not recommend to any bride- try Mills Falls! I wish we had!

The ceremony site was beautiful. That is were the positive feedback ends. They had another wedding going on right next to my wedding ceremony so their guests were there for my ceremony in the background. They lost my groom's cake and never put it out at the reception. The wedding planner changed the time of our rehearsal and never told me so they were not prepared for us and had another wedding going on at the time of our rehearsal and we were not able to use the ceremony site to practice. She showed up late the day of my wedding and we were not able to get into the room at the time she promised and it ended up being almost 20 mins after the agreed upon time before we were able to get in to decorate and they only let you in the day of and not any time before. She rushed us to hurry our pictures and get introduced because once dinner was served she was able to leave for the night. The pretty pictures are not nearly nice enough to validate the high cost with a lot of hidden fees and the crappy service. Your wedding day should be stress free after so much planning and my biggest stressor was working with this venue. Save your money and your stress and keep look for another venue.

We were looking to change our venue because the one we had had zero accommodations. The Margate had our date available luckily. We checked it out and fell in love with all they had to offer, we even signed a form to hold that date and were planning on putting a deposit down in that week. The coordinator neglected to mention during our visit that the weekend we would be getting married was the same weekend as "nascar weekend". Which means that we would be forced into booking 15 rooms for a two night minimum...which don't get me wrong I was totally fine with but the kicker was if our guests didn't book all 15 rooms we would have to pay for the rooms that were unsold. I found that distasteful and very unprofessional. They already charge a pretty penny for everything else. To say the least we didn't end up going with The Margate which was unfortunate because we really liked the place. We did however find a place that does allow you to hold rooms for your guests but won't charge you for them if they aren't booked by your guests.
