I had my ceremony at Breakers Beach Deck and my reception in the Skyroom. The Island Club personnel were very helpful when it came to choosing the location for my event. They were very nice and knowledgable. I am a very hands on person, and they accomodated to all of my needs. I would recommend this venue to anyone. The price was great and the service was even better!

If you are having a military wedding, this is the place to do it. I could not have asked for anything more to fit into my budget and to have people who were really ready to help me make this happen. The venue was beautiful, and the sunset is right there at any room you decide to pick. It was wonderful!

The Island Club provided the perfect backdrop for our wedding and reception. Our ceremony was down on the beach at the Breakers Beach Cafe, part of the Island Club, and it was absolutely beautiful. Our reception was held in their "Sky Room," and the panoramic views of the ocean and the famous Hotel del Coronado were amazing. They did all the set-up, and even let us come in the day ahead to decorate the reception room, which was a huge help.

This review is in regards to Breaker's Beach and Island Club at the Naval Air Station North Island, Coronado. In order to use this venue, you must have an active or retired service member that will represent your event and will be present, whether s/he is in the wedding party, family member or friend.

Budget - My husband and I were on a tight budget and timeline (had to keep my husband's orders in mind), and the Island Club was very accommodating. We had to change our date once, and they worked with us (contract at the time says you're allowed to change your date once in one calendar year). The venue Breaker's Beach is managed by the Island Club and they require paying a minimum of 75 guests during high season (May - Oct). Venue rental and catering was lower than the average prices in San Diego.

Catering/Food quality - Originally, we were thinking a brunch reception. The catering department was willing to work with us, but we decided on choosing items from their standard menu instead. Just the fact that they were willing to work around our brunch idea was nice :) Also, I had a dessert bar, but I chose specific items that the catering menu did not have, so there was no conflict. The food at Breaker's is buffet only, and it was yummy, not super gourmet. More importantly, it didn't make anyone sick.

Catering Manager and staff - My catering manager was Karen, and she made planning out the wedding very easy. I lived out of town and my wedding planners are in San Diego, so the three of us arranged phone conferences and mass email exchanges, making sure everyone was on the same page. There was a time when the internet went out at the venue, but most of the time, Karen responded via email within 72 hrs. The staff that was working on event day were very professional and organized.

Event rentals - Part of the wedding packages include tables (round or square), fold-out white and aluminum chairs, votive candles, mirrors for the center of the tables, and a white lattice ceremony arch.

Venue site - Breaker's Beach is a deck space, sitting on bright clean sand (and it has it's own bathroom!). It is technically a public beach, public to people with military access, at least. However, the Island Club's staff cleans the bathrooms the morning of, and if beachgoers see there's an event happening, they mostly stayed away (then again, my event was @ 10:30am). The only noise issue was a helicopter randomly flying over during the ceremony, but we just had a laugh (that's what you get for having an event at an air station, right?). Clean quiet beach, beautiful view of the water.

Because it's a military venue, there are rules to follow, such as turning in your guest lists and your vendor info's the week of, do not throw rice / flower petals, only Island Club catering allowed, but overall, I had a great experience from start to finish with Breaker's Beach.

My wedding ceremony was absolutely breathtaking on the beach! And the reception site was classy as well. The only drawback I would say are the blue chairs that come in the dining hall, but let's be honest, who will remember them? And what an amazing value! We booked it for $20/head which is near IMPOSSIBLE in San Diego, especially for as classy as a site as this. And though they say they require a government issued identification for every guest that comes to the wedding at the main gate, on my wedding day they just asked people if they were going to the wedding, and let them in. They really work with you!

There was no air conditioning, it was extremely hot in the reception. Also, there is no place to get ready. If I had known how inconvient it would be I would have done it somewhere different. The interior and exterior is outdated.
